Is there anyone around who has just found out that they are pregnant and are due in Sept?
I know it's very early days but I thought maybe I could get the ball rolling...
I'm due around Sept 4th I think, with DC2, feeling very happy if a bit nervous :)

Oh and no help on avoiding stretch marks unfortunately, I looked like I'd been mauled by a tiger each time. I think it's probably down to genetics but it can't hurt to try and Bio Oil does get recommended a lot, along with cocoa butter.

Spuddybean · 21/01/2012 22:47

kitty that's really kind - not sure how your friend will feel about you pimping her friendship out on mumsnet! Wink

As for stretch mark prevention; DP has been religiously rubbing bio oil and cocoa butter on me every night. He keeps the bottles by his side of the bed as he says 'that's daddies job'. I like it cos he also talks to the grub at the same time. :)

(just to say he doesn't do that because he's terrified of me getting stretch marks just because he likes doing it)

Macaroons · 21/01/2012 23:24

iph yes it's great to see heart beats, though to be honest we didn't know what we're looking for and needed the sonographer to point us to the right direction! It's like something blinking, I could only just about see it while my husband didn't quite see it but he said if the sonographer said there're heart beats, then there are heart beats! She dated it 6w+3 with EDD 12/9, which is pretty close to what FertilityFriend calculated for me (13/9). Yes it's very reassuring to know it's not ectopic before our holiday, I don't think I could wait till 22/2. (although the bean looks rather small relative to the uterus! The uterus did look very big and spacious!)

Spuddy sorry to hear that your family aren't very supportive. but your DP is being a DP for helping you put on bio oil :)

hotcupoftea spuddy and iph - I did start thinking about bio oil (as they're on sale at boots) are they good? And when do you usually start applying the oil?

A friend of mine gave birth recently and said she's in labour for a few days, and when it's time for epidural, the anesthetists were called to attend some other patients so she was left on her own and in the end she gave birth with no epidural and only gas! what's your experience? I don't want to think about labour yet but whatever I've been hearing is scaring me! Confused

Spuddybean · 21/01/2012 23:49

well mac i have had extensive knee surgery so have used bio on my scars for years, and it really does work. Never used it on stretch marks tho. Only time will tell.

I had to stop watching one born every minute - i have to be in the right mood to contemplate such trauma!

Mzbee · 22/01/2012 07:47

Hi everyone. I'm very new to this pregnancy malarky. Finding it all a bit baffling and spending all my time googling things and double checking my period hasn't arrived. I found out 4 days ago that I'm in the mega early stages of pregnancy. Did an online due date predictor thingy and it said 25th September. This is both wonderful news and terrible timing! Me and the hubby have been trying for nearly 4 years and had been undergoing tests to discover why we weren't getting preggers. So you can imagine the relief and the very cautious joy I'm feeling now. However, my sister is due to get married on September 29th. I was supposed to be bridesmaid! So we've had to tell my parents and sister. They were fine about it and obviously very happy but it's made me feel like I'm jinxing things a bit. My sister is thinking of changing her wedding to the 15th October as this was the only other date available for their venue. Do you think I'll be up to attending by then? Obviously not as a bridesmaid as I don't think Millets do dresses! Also when should I visits my doctors to tell them I'm pregnant and what will the next step be? I'm so glad to have found you other lovely ladies congratulations!

Dorita75 · 22/01/2012 08:12

Welcome and massive congratulations Mzbee! I'm new too, 1st time, woot um see doc as soon as could after getting positive result, so 6 days Advop period due (was over Christmas so would've gone sooner!)

I'm in Liverpool and doc sent off form for my free prescription card and contacted women's hospital, got appointment to see mw in post a week later, seeing mw next Weds. Think scan gets booked after that...

This thread is great, nice to be able to talk while having to stay quiet in 'real life!' Not sure about how you'll feel by 15th Oct but my SiL had her baby on 7th Jan and didn't spend more than 2 or 3 hours at her parents that Christmas...was still trying to get into a routine. Maybe you say that if they're happy to move the weeding that's fab but you don't know how you'll feel, will do your best as You obviously want to be there (even if it Is a dress from milletS!)

Dorita75 · 22/01/2012 08:16

God, I can't even blame stupid touchscreen phone predictive text for all the mistakes in that! Baby was born 7th Dec not Jan, doh! Hopefully you can decipher my other mistakes and realise I mean wedding not weeding....Jesus, is anyone else noticing their making very simple mistakes? I've been doing it in work, getting mixed up with things like dates and stuff?!

Dorita75 · 22/01/2012 08:17

They're not their.
See?
Am going to stop now in case I write something else stupid.

kittycatcat · 22/01/2012 08:48

Welcome and huge congrats mzbee

Re wedding there's always a chance you could be two weeks late which would clash with the new wedding date anyway. Eek. That's a tough one.

Mzbee · 22/01/2012 10:49

Thanks for the feed back ladies. I think I'm just gonna go with the flow and if I'm there for the ceremony and nothing else then so be it. I'll book an appointment at the doctors next week I think. So so tired! It's ridiculous.

blondiep14 · 22/01/2012 11:12

I think that's the best idea Mzbee. Not quite the same (!) But I went to a funeral 2 weeks after having my first baby and it was fine, although I didn't stop crying for hours! DS1 was asleep throughout the service, woke for a feed during the wake and we left when we were ready but didn't have to rush off.

Hotcupofteaplease · 22/01/2012 16:13

Hi Iph, my booking in was at a health / childrens centre, my 12 week scan will be at the Womens & then back to the health / childrens centre for the 20 week scan (all being well). Very efficient; had my scan letter 1.5 days after my booking in appointment.
The 12 week scan is at the hospital because we have opted to have the NT scan. I had the same experience with DS; had the bloods done (no NT scan though) & the results were 1 in 250. I also expected a '1 in 10000' result, so was pretty shocked, but the MW assured me this was low risk. I'm really not sure what to expect this time, or what I will do with the results.
Grin at being mauled by a tiger!

I used bio oil all the way through my last pregnancy, from 7 weeks; I ended up with a couple of very faint white stretch marks just under my belly button... This could well have been the case had I not used anything at all, but I'm not taking the chance, I'm coating myself in the stuff morning & night again!

Welcome Mzbee & congratulations! I would definitely go with the flow; you just don't know how early / late you're going to go... You could end up delivering mid ceremony Grin

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 22/01/2012 19:50

Hi all,

I think regarding the stretchmarks, if you're going to get them, you'll get them whatever you do. With DD I put bio oil on every day and was really smug at 38 weeks when i had none. Then come delivery I had a few under the bump and then once she was born, I seemed to get even moreHmm. So mauled by a tiger is probs a good description!!! Booooooo Grin

ThreeForTea · 22/01/2012 20:22

Hi everyone, hope you've had good weekends. Have been away with dd (dh gone to have lads wknd up north) so we went to be with some old friends which was lovely. Have managed to keep the secret though :)
pamplem0use that is really fun :) when will you be moving here? Could end up delivering at the same time! With the booking you just need to register at a gp's then just make an appt with the midwife, but they should just transfer your scans and things to Bedford maternity from where you are now if you're not moving till later on. It's a nice unit, lovely pool birthing suites if you're into that sort of thing. there's some nice groups and things around here too.

Will be 21 months between dd and new baby. I originally wanted to wait until she was three to try but now happy that she's going to have a friend. Think am going to try and get hold of a double buggy that doesn't take to too much space, but also get a buggy board and encourage dd to walk as much as possible. She's already pretty steady on her feet running around the place!

lauraj78 · 22/01/2012 20:31

I thought I'd already added myself to the list but it seems not! I plead pg brain already in this pregnancy. I can't do it on this iPhone so please can someone add me. Thanks :)

Rusulka · 22/01/2012 20:35

Spuddy I echo everyone else on here. Concentrate on building your own family unit. My mum's mother always treated her differently to her brother and younger sister (the sun shone out of her bum) and years down the line, said sister told a whole fistful of shocking lies which meant they disowned us. My mum was devastated. My dad filled me in later- when they got married, they were given 3 blankets as a wedding present- etc. etc. I really wished I'd known what my grandmother was like as a child and it would have been so much easier to sever the ties.
I'm not saying you should remove them from your life altogether, and it sounds like you already take them with a pinch of salt, which is healthy. I think everyone would agree with me on here when I say if you lived near me you'd be welcome at my house any time... unfortunately I don't live anywhere near you! I don't have any friends down here either as I moved to be with DH, but at least my folks are supportive. I'm really looking forward to actually getting to meet some people through peanut. My SiL is a good substitute most of the time, but she's only just 24, and very erm, immature, lol. Sometimes it would be nice to talk to someone responsible and sympathetic!

I'm not even going to bother trying to stop the stretch marks, as I've been amassing them since I was in my early teens. The last vestige of unmarked skin WAS on my stomach, but I have lines either side of my bellybutton from where I had an epic expansion a few years back. I even have them on my upper arms and back of calves! Besides which, DH likes them. He thinks it makes me look like an alien lady off Star Trek (groan...)

Got my appts through- booking in appt on 6th Feb at a local SureStart centre (I think), 12 week scan at hospital on 21st Feb. Nuchal also included for me, going to go with it because of my age. I'm paranoid about everything!

Current fear is that the sonographer saw peanut in the right place and didn't bother checking my tubes- I keep having stabby stretchy pains in both sides, low down, and it's really bothering me. Wish I'd asked her to double check for me, but she had a face like a slapped arse so I didn't dare. Lol.

Welcome to newbies!

Mzbee · 23/01/2012 07:46

Blondiep14 thanks for the funeral story made me feel a bit better and if the babe has arrived by the wedding date at least it should be asleep. Sorry to all if I don't comment or give any advice at this point but really don't have a much of a clue about baby and pregnancy stuff yet. I'm the first in my immediate family to have a baby but will be picking friends' brains and I have ordered a big ol' baby bible book. So I'll be reading lots of your comments to see what I should shouldn't be doing. Nice to be able to talk about it as I don't wanna tell friends yet in case it all goes wrong. However DH is most pleased and easy to talk but he does like the name 'carole' for a girl and 'Duncan' for a boy!! Help!
Grin

kittycatcat · 23/01/2012 08:32

Hehe Mzbee Are they family names?

fruitloop101 · 23/01/2012 09:06

Hey everyone, Does anyone find their symptoms come and go. Back ache, fatigue for a while, then nothing? And that their symptoms are worse at certain times of the day? I had v sore boobs initially, but now, almost seven weeks in they're fine.
Rather paranoid after a MMC last June!
xx

Littlecherublegs · 23/01/2012 10:08

Morning all, just been catching up the latest post from over the weekend.

Mzbee that is tricky re the wedding - maybe you'll just have to play it by ear a little bit? My brother is getting married in August about 6 weeks before Im due so I was slightly worried about the timings for that. Am sure it will be absolutey fine and wouldnt miss it for the world, it just will involve a (short) flight so was worried about whether the airline would let me fly and we could get insurance etc. If not, we can always get a ferry - wheres there's a will theres a way!! Smile

fruitloop my symptoms come and go too, think thats normal. Remember some people get loads of different symptoms whereas others hardly get any. The nausea is often worse in the middle of the night / morning but is better when I've eaten something. My main symptom at the mo is my boobage!! Huge, heavy and painful!! I had a MC in September so am paranoid too but this time it feels different, it feels better and right Smile

A couple of questions:
Although I havent actually been sick yet, the nausea is getting worse and I almost was sick this morning so feel like I will be at some point soon (joy!). Does anyone have any magic remedies on how to stop it or minimise it? I heard ginger biscuits are good?
Also, what have you told work? Presuming you havent told them you are pregnant yet (I havent as havent told anyone - waiting til 12 weeks and am just 6 weeks) so what do you tell them if/when you are sick? I dont want them to know before my own family & friends!!

Thanks! Smile

kittycatcat · 23/01/2012 10:23

Hi cherub
I found any dry biscuit helped as i was just eating something! Also, i had a glass of water by me all the time and sipped it as soon as i felt nauseas. Luckliy i was never sick tho.

fruitloop i panic too. My spymtoms are different this time, ie there arent many. I am getting lots of what i hope is ligament pain. rarely feel nauseas, and not as tired as last time. And boobs arent at all sore. Maybe it's cos its still early days and i have it all to come! Not telling work til after the first scan!

Have any of the due late Sept ladies booked their booking appointment yet?
I'm due 22nd all being well but it feels too early to be doing anything. I think I'll phone next week, then at least I will be halfway to scan.

lurkingmurking · 23/01/2012 12:53

blondie I'm due 18/09 and haven't been to the docs yet - I need to make an appointment for this week so I can get in the system!

mzbee don't worry too much about the wedding - unfortunately there's not a lot you can do but with DS I was up and about really quickly and flew to Ireland when he was a couple of weeks old so you might be absolutely fine.

I've been feeling more nauseous this weekend and today. Lemon and ginger tea helps me loads and anything carby like breadsticks are good.

fruitloop my symptons definitely come and go! My boobs usually hurt in the evenings though I think that's from wearing a bra all day - I've been putting on my old feeding bras in the evenings!

Littlecherub I've just told one person at work who I know I can trust not to gossip and she just keeps an eye on me. Choose someone who is a Mum so they'll understand!
