eastbeast you might want to make the most of sleeping on your left, as you need to sleep on your right side for a lot of pregnancy. Something about not putting pressure on something vital that supplies the baby, was something in the bumph from the midwives last time round.
re sleeping pillows, i have a dream genie and a long body pillow which is to all intents/purposes like having 2 pillows stitched together. I found the dream genie more use in early ish pregnancy, as it kept me lying on my right hand side, and was comfy to have it tucked between my legs, again i am not at all comfy is there is any pressure on my boobs (and in later pregnancy i ended up leaking over the sheets if there was any pressure on them!!) As the bump got bigger, i used the body pillow as it supported under bump, and went nicely between my legs and helped ease my achey bones (i was unlucky and suffered spd and carpel tunnel syndrome so anything to get remotely comfy in bed was worth it in my eyes!) but i still had a lot of rib pain despite my many pillows and suffered discomfort and insommnia! (and i was drinking a pint of milk in the morning alone never mind with cereal and anything else during the day lol!!
Re moses baskets, if you have a baby who will let you transfer them into one to sleep then they are great and portable. However DS has reflux and whilst was very happy to sleep on me, would wake the second i tried to put him into the basket. And he outgrew it by 10-11 weeks so for us was a waste of money. To keep him in our room, we then had to buy a crib (we got a glider crib from mothercare) and this lasted till he was almost 6 months old, so much better value despite being more expensive!
One of the other wastes of money for us was baby- carriers ie the type you wear. Felt fine on in the shops, but the reality of adding the weight of a baby to them didn't work for me. I am top heavy at the best of times, never mind when got milk/pregnancy inflated boobs, and suffer with a bad back, so found the two we bought very uncomfortable indeed, even when DS was newborn, never mind when he put on weight! Stuck to using the pram or car seat attached to our buggy frame (which is a baby jogger city select which i highly recommend - it's particularly good if you have or plan on having not much of an age gap like we did, and it's very flexible in what you can put on the frame and the directions they can face)
Also for those who have lots to buy, we set up an account with kidstart, you earn cashback and sometimes special discounts, and can then transfer the cashback (which mounts up scarily fast!) into a savings account for your little one(s)
