Is there anyone around who has just found out that they are pregnant and are due in Sept?
I know it's very early days but I thought maybe I could get the ball rolling...
I'm due around Sept 4th I think, with DC2, feeling very happy if a bit nervous :)

Loopyhasanotherbean · 07/01/2012 15:14

most pickles are quite high in salt as it's one of the main stages of pickling.

Loopyhasanotherbean · 07/01/2012 15:15

(well definitely for cabbage as you cover it in salt and leave it for a day and then rinse what you can off and whack it in vinegar....)

Spuddybean · 07/01/2012 16:27

My Piccalilli doesn't have much salt, just vinegar.

I'm not sure what to do about work either - I started a new job on Tuesday (really bad timing i know!) and have been shite all week. I accepted the job before i conceived, and as i had been trying for 9 months didn't think it would matter.

So now i have optic neuritis and am blind in one eye, have been feeling nauseous, peeing constantly, eating at my desk, exhausted, forgetful etc. They really must be thinking they made a massive mistake!

Don't know whether in the interests of honesty to explain why i'm so crap or hide it for a bit. The place is female friendly and has lots of mums on the team. They might be more sympathetic if i say something earlier.

TheDetective · 07/01/2012 17:03

Bleeding is still going, heavier than a normal period (for me anyway). Am going to do another test later, no idea why. Its the only idea I have.

Not much else I can do. :(

Just waiting for DP to come home from work and have a cuddle and a cry :(

Macaroons · 07/01/2012 17:11

So sorry to hear that detective. Would these early pregnancy unit help? www.earlypregnancy.org.uk/whoarewe.asp

Spuddy and viola I have no idea when to tell work but maybe not till February / March. I guess if you are unwell you probably want to tell them why you are unwell though.

MsEltoeNWhine · 07/01/2012 17:15

I have a BFP, but I wouldn't go so far to say I'm expecting a baby in September. Might get one if I'm very very lucky.

I will not be telling anyone at all - if I'm fortunate to have a positive 20 week scan then I may start telling close friends and family.

Rusulka · 07/01/2012 17:19

Sorry to hear you feel so rubbish Detective.
Even if things don't turn out well, at least take comfort in the fact that your insides are still working. I had 2 chemicals before this, Jul & Nov, and since this is our first attempt at it I took comfort in the fact that my body was at least having a go.
Take care of yourself, indulge in whatever you fancy, take advantage of lots of hugs and I'm sure you'll be back on the horse soon. X

dubaipieeye · 07/01/2012 17:40

Hi all, count me in - found out today I am expecting dc2. Much longed for but for some reason I've spent the afternoon in tears! I dearly wanted to have baby no 2 at home in the UK but one that's not going to happen...I miss my mum. That said we are delighted...The thought of ds having a db or dsis makes me go goosebumpy Grin

I ve only had chance to scan read the thread so far but Im wishing you happy healthy sleepy babies x

pgreen · 07/01/2012 19:26

slightly weird today as choose spare ribs for lunch - never even eaten them before. WTF? They were yummy. Accidentally had mayo as my brain hasn't yet switched into what not to eat mode. Will I keep choosing odd things? So far no other signs other than the seriously tender boobs.

Whatevertheweather · 07/01/2012 19:32

pgreen nothing wrong with eating Mayo Smile unless it's homemade due to raw eggs. Even in a restaurant is unlikely to be homemade.

Hope your dh is home TheDetective and you are being looked after.

Still not really got any symptoms except I keep feeling light headed/dizzy - anyone else have this? Don't remember it from last 2.

TheDetective · 07/01/2012 19:35

You can eat mayo pgreen just not the unpasteurised stuff. Basically Helmans etc is fine, but the stuff that is homemade is not as it contains raw egg whites.

The reason being the risk of salmonella from the raw egg. The risk of a salmonella infection increases your risk of miscarriage.

Sounds like you ate at a restaurant - generally most restaurants serve pasteurised mayo. Hope that helps.

Whatevertheweather · 07/01/2012 19:35

Forgot to say congratulations dubaipieeye and mseltoenwhine Smile

I can understand your cautiousness MsEltoe. I lost my dd2 just after she was born so I am not 'having a baby' I am 'pregnant'. I hope you are okay and taking things one day at a time xx

TheDetective · 07/01/2012 19:40

Thanks Whatevertheweather he is home now, came home with a big bar of Galaxy Caramel and a sticky toffee pudding for me! I haven't the heart to tell him I can't eat them yet, I'm not sure this bug or whatever it is has worked its way through yet. I still feel rough as a badgers bum, and am still bleeding and cramping.

I just want to go to bed mostly, but then I have not moved off the sofa all day, so feeling incredibly lazy.

Might settle for soup and a cuddle lol!

Spuddybean · 07/01/2012 19:47

i wouldn't just have one cuddle detective , i would have loads!!

My DP is working away at the mo and i am dreading something bad happening when he isn't here. (not really sure why the 'while he's not here' part seems the most important!)

Make sure he takes good care of you. :)

fastscooter · 07/01/2012 20:06

Big group, hi, I am due with my 3rd on 5th Sept. I've two little boys (3 1/2 and 2), so I am expecting another blue one, but secretly keeping the pink babygro in the back of the cupboard handy, just in case.....

fastscooter · 07/01/2012 20:12

"Detective" - my sis had cramping which was so painful she was doubled over in agony, and a bad bleed in her 7-8th week. Her baby was born 4 weeks ago, full term. Bodies do funny things when you're pregnant..... Best of luck.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 07/01/2012 20:13

Oh detective I am so sorry to hear about your awful day. Big hugs to you. Sad

I have felt knackered but probe didn't help that o had my friend over last night and was up talking til 1am! Have only get a bit nauseous today, but not too bad and gone mad and eaten about 15 pickled gerkins!!! Blush
DH and I were talking about the 12 week scan today, as last time with DD we had a private scan because hospital here didn't do the nuchal translucency test, just the triple blood test. Heard a rumour that they have started doing the NT test now on the NHS, but info on the hospital website is woeful. Will probs just have to ask the MW when I see her (fingers crossed) in a couple of weeks.
Had better go anyway as supposed to be supervising DD in the bath and so far she has put a full toilet roll in the bath and emptied a half full bottle of shampoo whilst I've been typing this (bad mother emoticon)BlushConfused.
Oh and hi to all the new ladies! Xxx

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 07/01/2012 20:15

Apols for the awful typos! Blush

Loup23 · 07/01/2012 23:06

Sending hugs and luck to detective xx

Welcome to newbies, the stats are on the page before if you want to add yourself.

I have had an up and down day, this morning was sure that something was going wrong as boobs seem to be getting smaller and less painful which was the frist sign of mc in February.... on the other hand I am 6+0 today which was the time I started mc last time so maybe I'm inventing non-symtpoms Confused - am trying to stay positive and see that every day past today is further than I got last time......

MsEltoeNWhine · 07/01/2012 23:11

Thanks Loup23, I'd prefer to stay off the list for now.

Whatevertheweather - I'm sorry for your loss. I have lost two in the second trimester, but can't imagine losing one near birth. RIP your DD2 xxx

mentalasylum · 08/01/2012 01:00

Me too Grin

I'm due around the 7th with number 6 Shock

EastBeast · 08/01/2012 09:46

Morning all,

I just thought I'd share with my fellow insomniacs that I bought a pregnancy support pillow yesterday and I slept SO much better last night! Still woke up at 3am but fell asleep again pretty quickly - so got a decent night's sleep for the first time in over a week. It's the DreamGenii one which supports your back and tummy, very comfy. I've just ordered a fleece cover for it and I may never want to get out of bed again :)

Have lovely weekends all, and fingers crossed for those with worries...

Rusulka · 08/01/2012 10:00

East I was thinking of getting one of those... but with the intention of making every penny count, is it worth it?
I was wondering whether to just get one of those long body pillows, then I could concertina it and use it as a breastfeeding support later. Got to work out cheaper than a dreamgenii + my brest friend, or whatever it's called...

It does sound good though.

I've noticed there's a hell of a lot of products on the market now, and my mum and dad are pretty bemused by the vast majority. If they managed without them for me and my sister, is there any point in me getting them?

I don't want to get sucked in and pay a fortune for things I won't really need, IYSWIM.
I've somewhat presumptuously picked out car seats and a travel system, but beyond that... it's my first time, so don't know what I should be concentrating on! I know a moses basket is pretty pointless, since they outgrow it very quickly. Anyone got any ideas for a basic need to have/nice to have list? Might as well get the ball rolling.

MsEltoeNWhine · 08/01/2012 10:18

For me a travel system was the most pointless buy - never used it, sold it very quickly - and Moses basket one of the best, she slept in in next to my bed every night for the first five months, and we could put her to sleep downstairs in the evening and just carry her up when we went to bed. She then slept in it inside her cot for a couple of weeks to ease the transition into big open space.

Does a pregnancy pillow really help in the pre bump stage? I was going to get one when I got a bump in my last pregnancy but only carried him to 4.5 months so never got a bump after all.

EastBeast · 08/01/2012 10:33

Hmmm, I suspect everyone's experience with sleep is different, given lots of you are still sleeping through the night fine (grrr!)

Personally I can't sleep on my front anymore (big sore boobs and it makes me feel sick) so I've been trying to sleep on my left side with a mixture of pillows propped in front of me, behind me and between my knees (otherwise I get an achy right leg from no support). This worked OK but made me FAR too hot. The support pillow provides the same support in just the right places but without the feeling that I might suffocate in the night :)

The pillow's also supposed to be usable as support when breastfeeding, you can fold the back support into a holder for the baby while the long section curls around your back as you sit up. No idea if that's practical but I'm just grateful for a good night's sleep!
