Hello all!

So sorry to hear about your brother angel. Big hugs.

I've not posted for so long, I'm now struggling to catch up with all the questions and posts!

Nappy-wise- we're going for cloth nappies. I believe the research has been done says the cost for these is in the region of £300 vs disposables £1000. Not sure if that took into account washing etc. But anyway, we have space for drying and stuff and I don't like the thought of all those nappies going into landfill. I'm not sure which ones we're getting. If you go to nappylady.co.uk she gives you a personalised recommendation, which I'm going to look at a bit more closely in a few weeks. I think that if you keep them in good condition, they also fetch a descent resale value on Ebay, which is also great.

I had a big order from Kiddicare yesterday, full of random things. A Groegg room thermometer, a baby ear thermometer, a nasal aspirator thing (looks quite scary to me), a bulk order of flushable wipes, vibrating bouncer chair, a big bath sponge that the baby lies on (seemed to have good reviews) and some nipple cream.

We've also booked onto some NCT classes for April. I hope they are worth it, because they cost a bloody fortune!

On the work front, you might remember I asked you whether to tell that company I was pregnant or not. Well, I told them before the interview. I haven't heard much back, so I'm not holding out hope. Indeed, I'm not really holding out much hope I'll get any work at this rate. But I've got decorating to keep me busy, so it doesn't get me down too much.

Right, I better get a wriggle on as I'm still in my pjs.

Morning all

angel thinking of you and your family still...are you back to work now?

hippie I found a little 'kick counting' chart in the back of my hospital notes pack and am pretty sure it said to start keeping a record of them from 28 weeks onwards. The chart seemed to suggest that you tick off each time you feel a kick from when you wake until you get to the 10th occurance and then mark the time of the 10th and keep a record that way. Then, if you either don't feel 10 in a day or they seem to be getting much less frequent then it gives something to take to the MW I guess.

Re. mat clothes I am finally starting to 'fill' mine and feeling more comfortable in them though am also wondering how long they are all going to fit as still only 23 weeks! But, have become a bit more relaxed about work clothes and such as I've realised there's really not too much longer to go Shock eeek and that I can make do with what I have now....would prefer to save my money for a few treats post birth if I need a pick me up (and am feeling fat and frumpy after birth too!)

Also started to think more about exercise and my Davina pre and post natal workout DVD arrived this morning so looking forward to giving that a go!

Right - best get back to work!

mrsallcock · 02/02/2012 18:03

You all sound very organised, with your baby things ordered. Will say tights are more comfortable from mothercare than H and M, I've been in maternity clothes since about weeks 8, growing out of some of my maternity clothes but have been given a lot. There are some good sales on with toast and brora for a post pregnancy treat, but think of your size or get a friend to try on.
alwayssanauntie my sister is accumilating stuff for me, and she will drive up when I have the baby, which my Dr warned us there is poor prognosis for her, but we will not know til she comes out. My baby girl is part of a twin the other one has died and is still inside.
Does anybody know of some happy stories of low amnio fliud round baby before 24 weeks and the baby has done well.

PeahenTailFeathers · 02/02/2012 18:42

So sorry to hear that, mrsallcock :(
I've no experience or advice but I do wish you all the best with your baby.

BlueCrane · 03/02/2012 11:39

mrsallcock so sorry to hear the news about your lost twin Sad In terms of low quantities of amnio fluid my friend's waters broke v early (24 weeks I think) and whilst they kept replenishing they also kept dribbling out, but she managed to keep baby in until 35 weeks when she had an ELCS!! Her DS is now 5 and although prone to chest infections is otherwise fine!! I think the LO's swallow the amnio fluid to help with the development of their lungs which is possibly why his lungs are a bit weak but he is getting stronger each year and doing well. Hope that provides some comfort. What are the docs advising? Thinking of you!

SirCharles · 03/02/2012 14:20

Sorry to hear that mrsallcock. Good luck, I don't have any experience or stories unfortunately but fingers crossed. Babies are resilient things. Good to hear your sister is being so supportive.

Everyone does sound so organised. I have nothing! We hope to do a mad dash round the shops, attend NCT, find a doula, attend a hypnobirthing session and find a place to live once i am back in the UK at Easter ( I hope it warms up by then, 30 degrees C here & UK weather sounds vile!). Alas DH will still be commuting between London & Jo'burg so we have lots to fit in..... Let's hope he is in the right place when LO decides to make an entrance!

crackers thanks for the mention of kiddiecare. I might order some stuff from there for delivery to a friend - might take the pressure off a bit when we get back!
I had not heard of the nappylady..... Will take a look.

Does anyone else been afflicted by The Line? It has just appeared - from belly button down. DH is very excited by it. He seems to be loving the signs of pregnancy more than me! Anyone else finding their partners behaviour mind boggling.?

Cewafwb · 03/02/2012 15:48

oooo can help on that SirCharles - it comes (although haven't got it yet this time) and at the end, after your stomach goes vaguely back to normal, about 4 months down the line i think, you can wash it off!!! If you notice it becomes patchy, you can use a flannel or your nail and it all comes off! One of the oddest things that happened to me - but does work!

So sorry for all the awful things that are happening, Angel and MrsAlcock. Thoughts with you all.

I couldn't count kicks if tried - it NEVER sleeps! It NEVER stops! It NEVER is quiet or still - don't know what is in there but OMG! x

alwaysanauntie · 03/02/2012 19:12

mrsallcock sorry, forgot that was you, I know you did mention it before. Again I have no knowledge of low amnio fluid stories, but I do have a friend who's baby was born at 25 weeks and is now a happy 3 year old, so maybe if yours can hang on in there as long as possible the prognosis will improve? Fingers and toes crossed for you - can only imagine how frustrating it must be for you not knowing how far to plan in advance just in case.

Hope everyone's keeping warm, at least one benefit of pregnancy for me is than I'm a lot hotter than usual, so even though it was -7 when I walked the dog this morning at 6.30 I wasn't too bothered (no wind though - that does make a difference) Grin. I am a bit worried about possible snow tomorrow, I have a course on this weekend at an old manor house in the Cotswolds, it's beautiful but fairly remote so I just hope I can drive out of there on Sunday evening Hmm...

SirCharles · 03/02/2012 20:24

keep warm always
has anyone else seen the thread on maternity tights? Maternity tights the devils work
really made me laugh.... just glad I am somewhere where i can avoid wearing tights right now. However my shorts are now getting a bit tight and I have no idea where to buy any more in Joburg..... at this rate I shall be wearing a bikini and a pair of curtains by week 30!!!
have a good weekend all.

BlueCrane · 06/02/2012 10:49

Morning all Smile Hope everyone is wrapped up and toasty and not stuck in the cold

Well, PIL came to visit this weekend and MIL has actually been v v good with what she has bought...she has stuck to neutral colours as requested and nothing toooo random apart from the glass feeding bottles she used for my DH which I doubt will get used will no doubt be put in a box in the loft but was a nice thought! Weekend was exhausting though!!

Work is really bugging me at the moment as there's loads of personnel issues and changes going on and the Managers are useless at communication and it's just making me v nervous for arrangements for me coming back after mat leave which is starting to stress me out! My current job just doesn't really work PT but I really want to come back 3 days a week and have previously been promised that they'll work something out but now starting to get nervous about it!

Haven't yet really managed much work at all this morning so ought to try and do some but will be back later!

SirCharles · 07/02/2012 15:01

Afternoon ladies! did anyone else see this thread? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1399735-What-happens-right-after-you-give-birth
quite interesting but read it all the way through to get a balanced view. It has answered questions I did not even know I had!!!

mrsallcock · 07/02/2012 17:23

thank you for all your well wishes everyone, she's moving around well so that is always reassuring.
Sircharles will try that thread sounds interesting.

SirCharles · 07/02/2012 20:19

if anyone needs further views on what to put in their birthplan re pain relief might be worth looking at this thread which has been trending today
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1400348-Tell-me-about-drugs-during-labour?pg=1

it is getting very real now isn't it?! 15 weeks to go - whoah! still not sure I am responsible enough.... oh well - too late now!!!

Angelyaz · 09/02/2012 10:32

Hi all, thank you again for your well wishes. I am driving to the south east today for the funeral tomorrow.

I'm glad all our babies are getting on well! I've started thinking about my birth plan - eek! - good news is that my midwife says I can have a water birth as although my weight would be an issue, I haven't put any weight on during the pregnancy (the baby weight has been counteracted by my healthier eating I guess...) and everything else is going according to the book! So I can actually have a birth plan that is realistic as opposed to my fantasy one!
I've booked myself onto an antenatal course with Lazy Daisy birthing - it looks really good and just the kind of approach I want. I start the first Saturday in march - everything really is getting real now!

Anyway, off to pack etc... Will be thinking of all your kind thoughts over the next few days - thank you so much, you've all been a great support.

Y xx

Dozeyland · 09/02/2012 19:55

Hi All,

Haven't posted in a while, My phone doesnt let me post on this thread due to it being quite long now...

A lot has happened the past week or so. DP has been moved to 'open' prison. Had our first visit there last week, & it was a lot more relaxed than the other one. DP could play with DD, and we could cuddle which meant so much to not have officers hovering over us and being confined to opposite sides of the table. We thought this was the 'home-stretch' - until todays news :(

DP called, and had a meeting about the HDC date (coming home on tag) the day before baby is due. but he's been told that it was the last prisons mistake and he's not actually eligible. So I called probation and long story short: he can apply, but its down to the govenor if they accept him as a exceptional case. We hope so.

So we now have to have in mind that he will not be home until October, And I am petrified about him not being at the birth.

Talk about kicking us while we're already down.

Sending everyone hugs and best wishes.

Currently 25+3.

SirCharles · 09/02/2012 20:18

oh dozey, so glad the open prison allows you some family touchy feely time. so important for all of you. but am so sorry too at the recent set back. I will be thinking positive thoughts for you and your DP. Fingers crossed he is allowed out as an exceptional case. Is he allowed to apply soon?
In the meantime I hope you can find another birth partner as back up - a friend or relative?

It is not the same but my DH is working abroad and I am terrified he wont make it back in time so we are looking at the cost of a doula. I dont really fancy my mum or his mum being in attendance and not sure i can ask my bestest mate to come down (long trip) and leave her 3xDCs .....

Fingers crossed for you.

angel - will be thinking of you on Friday. drive safely.

Dozeyland · 09/02/2012 20:44

We're making phone calls this week, so fingers crossed he can apply asap

SIL came with us last time, so she will be there probably, But I want my soulmate there :(

hippieshake · 09/02/2012 21:22

Dozey I hope things get sorted for you. I'm sure that under the circumstances he should seriously be considered for it. I mean he's not exactly going to run off if they let him out is he, he just wants to be at the birth of his child. It boggles the mind when you think about how some people commit awful crimes and get a few months suspended sentences. Who decides these things?!

Angel make sure to look after yourself on the drive, it's not very nice out there at the moment. I'm glad you get to have the birthing plan you want. I would love a water birth, haven't had a chance to speak to the midwife about it yet.

24 weeks tomorrow. It seems to be going so quickly, and I finally have a (small) bump!!! Still in my size-8 skinny jeans though. DH and I decided to book in for a private scan after all. I just wanted a 2D one, but that was £78 for 15mins... the clinic had an offer on 4D ones... £60 for 20 mins. So we're biting the bullet and going for that one. Hopefully it will settle all of my irrational fears that the sonographer got it wrong and my girl is a boy. Lots of kicks and wriggles going on despite my anterior placenta which I'm glad about.

I was gutted yesterday. I found the perfect job whilst just browsing websites. Library Assistant for a new council leisure centre they are building in my town centre. Part-time £8+ and hour. I've hoped for a job like that for so long, and now I'm pregnant. HAHA!! Hopefully I'll find something like that in a years time when I'm looking for work again.

How is everyone else? I hope you are all doing well. Have we got lots of wriggly babies?

Love to you all xxx

Dozeyland · 09/02/2012 21:47

Hippie Tell me about it, It makes me sick how they're evil people out there who intentionally want to hurt people, people who re-offend, people who hurt children, people who consistently break the law - and just get a smack on the wrist.

and yet my dear DP is inside for such a tragic case, It's taken so much from him already and this news has just devastated him, and me. It's just so unfair, he's a father who does absolutely everything for his family, goes above and beyond. and he's being punished. We've had contact from the deceased son and he has written a few times saying he never wanted DP to go away, and will do anything he can to get him out. so fingers crossed

I've also just done some research online for what DP needs to apply for, and info he needs etc. he needs to be out for our DC2. Needs to be. for all of our sakes , but his sake more than anybody's. he doesnt deserve to miss out, especially when he's missed the majority of my pregnancy.

Sweet dreams to you all, Dozeyland calls.....

SirCharles · 12/02/2012 20:29

how is everyone doing? it has gone v quiet on this thread - are you all hunkering down against the cold or conecting with real people in the real world?!

One of the women on the other May thread had her baby this week at 26+6 - whoah. am quite shocked as I am now 26 weeks so that is like me having mine next Friday.

hope everyone had a good weekend. Been 28 C here so went to the Zoo, as well as watched the 6Nations Rugby. The whole neighbourhood knows DH is a Wales supporter now.

He has been talking to Bump too to encourage B to be a rugby supporter!!!!!!! Men are strange - non? their reaction to pregnancy is unfathomable. He loves all the signs - like the appearance of the line on my stomach! He also likes feeling the bump when B is moving - really loves it. In fact I sometimes wonder if he is coming over to hug me or see if he can feel B move..... anyone else experiencing weird DH/DP moments like this?
Dont get me wrong it is very cute and I am enjoying him enjoying the pregnancy but am I alone?!

hippieshake · 12/02/2012 20:51

Hey sircharles Is the other lady's baby okay? That must've been so shocking for her.

It's been about 1 degree where I live, freeezing!!

My DH is finding it very difficult to talk to the bump, I think he feels silly. I'm not sure how to talk to her though, it is a bit odd. He is massively into music though, so he bought some headphones and had been playing songs to her. She seems partial to a bit of Lady Gaga and also Nirvana.

How are things with you and your bump? x

Dozeyland · 12/02/2012 21:21

Shocking about that lady, hope things are okay. God I could only imagine how she must have felt/be feeling :(

Feeling so low...... just want my soulmate home :(

saw him today, but just so hard on every level ....

I can no longer view this thread on my phone as its very long now, so only log in on my laptop now.

How are your bumps growing? I still have no idea/inkling of what the gender is, love the surprise. keeps me guessing. Im carrying the same i think as DD, but partially lower (probably due to tummy muscles) and ITs currently laying across my tummy, pushing my belly button right out! DP had a good feel today :) he has no idea idea - and names! have ideas but no definites!

some days it feels like baby is pushing right down already, low low, i believe my placenta is still anterior, but that was at 21weeks. i'm 26weeks tomorrow, crazy!

karatekimmi · 12/02/2012 21:52

I'm having the same issue as dozeyland regarding the thread, but I keep reading. It's such a faff to post with my phone!

Fingers crossed for your application dozeyland.

I am not sure I'm enjoying baby moving inside, feels very odd and happens at such odd times. I know it'd be worse if it didn't move, but sick of feeling like a punch bag :( this isn't helped by lack of sleep due to uncomfortable sleeping positions. Just really want it all to be over - feeling very miserable at the minute.

DH is very excited and loves feeling baby move- although insists on checking every time whether it did move or not! He's quite happy to talk to it, but we haven't been playing if music yet, although dad has promised me a playlist is on it's way !! Very stupid question coming up, but surely if I listen to music then baby hears it too? Or do speakers need to be pointing at belly? And what do youdo with the headphones? Very dodgy images and possible excuses at a&e fir getting speakers removed!!!

Anyway off to bed to see if I can sleep past 4am!!!

Wommer · 13/02/2012 10:27

Can't believe someone on the other forum has had her baby already! Popped in and had a look, and although baby is in itu it looks like all will be fine (although weeny at 1lb 10!)

Does make it all seem a little more urgent tho!

Am (finally) beginning to feel a bit more comfortable in my own skin, either that or DH's constant reminders of "you're not fat you're pregnant" have actually started getting through!

Am starting swimming with pg best friend on Thursday. The idea of any exercise involving impact is wince making at the moment, but need to do something to keep at least a small amount of fitness lol.

Have myself an oh so sexy mat swimming cozzy on it's way to me as we speak.

Xx

alwaysanauntie · 13/02/2012 11:38

My phone has been playing up but finally fixed it, hence haven't posted for a while. Big hugs to Dozey and angelyaz hope today's a better day for you both xx

I've also been considering the prospect of an early arrival, an old school friend had her DD at 25 weeks, and after a fairly long stint in scbu she's a bubbly 3yo. It was a big relief for me getting to 24 weeks, as that's earliest date they have a reasonable chance of surviving, 27 wks tomorrow, so a bit less worry each passing week. Still, would be a bit of a shock having new born to look after so soon...

I'm feeling a bit fed up with leg cramps, back ache and general tiredness (also jealous of sircharles 28 degrees :o) but hope everyone else is doing ok
