Just realised I have rather od'd on cake today Blush my friend made some milk tart which I had mid morning, then at lunchtime I had a small pear and ginger muffin and a small square of ginger cake, and have now just eaten a piece of golden syrup cake and custard...think that may show a small trend of beany giving me even more of a sweet tooth than I had before! I have also eaten three portions of fruit as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner...hmmm...maybe it's just that I'm eating rather a lot..but then I seem to be hungry most of the time!!

always despite my food addiction above I am still having fun balancing the differing requirements to avoid heartburn and constipation! All good fun!

Think I need to sit still for a bit and let the cake settle before doing my next task of the evening...

Dozeyland · 17/01/2012 20:17

Evening All,

How are we? DD is still not 100% but I think she is teething, her nappies have been so bad this week bless her. (TMI) Poonami earlier at baby cafe, and again at bath time....So watery bless her. she's happy other than that. and I think where she is walking lots and lots its tiring her out more now, and she's wanting to get her blanket and go to bed at around 7ish. bless her. She's missing Daddy too.

Had a lovely early valentines card from DP (Heart melted) his words are so loving :) ..........then to make the day EVEN better. I had a phone call from him and he asked how i was and I said, "chuffed to have got that beautiful card" and i asked what about him "and he said i've got something to tell you.... I'm moving to D-Cat (Open) within the next few weeks :) I cried with happiness.

I wont babble on, just thought i'd mention and keep you up to date.

Baby bump keeps moving SO much, and also getting hiccups (like DD did lots) and its amazing how I can tell the difference to Braxton hicks to baby turning to baby hiccuping... well from experience i just guess.... So crazy to think that its a COMPLETELY different little person to DD in there....

Felt VERY tired today, more than usual. anyone else feeling bloated/popping out?lol

Has anyone uploaded a bump pic?

So how many of us are first timers and second timers?

hippieshake · 17/01/2012 20:28

Dozey that's such good news about your DP!!!! Awh, I'm so pleased for you :)

My baba keeps moving more now. She likes being in the bath I think, and when I was tickling my tummy before she wriggled about. I have an anterior placenta though, so I'm hoping that doesn't cushion her too much.

I'm a first timer!! Finding it all very exciting. I bought my first pair of maternity jeans today, at 20+4 I am FINALLY starting to get a teenie, tiny bump.

Awh, I'm so chuft for you! xx

Dozeyland · 17/01/2012 20:38

Thank you :)

I have a bump, still in my clothes at the mo (was all the way through with DD) as I literally carry all front. (well i did with her & am now so far)

No luck with any pregnancy pilates/yoga in my area :( will keep trying.

I am anterior placenta again too xx

BlueCrane · 17/01/2012 20:39

dozey fab news!

Definitely a bump here and by the evening it is quite pronounced! Not so much movement yesterday and today which has had me worrying a bit but am sure all is well as there has still been some movement. Wondering if my tiredness has been beany having a growth spurt but taht bump hasn't grown to catch up yet so there's less space to move around iyswim?

I'm a first timer and keep meaning to write down the dates I first felt things to refer back to next time but haven't quite got around to it yet!

Dozeyland · 17/01/2012 21:05

I think my bump is bigger by the evening too!

Also highly recommend righting down notes (out of your blue notes/Mw appts.. and things like the measurements from scans, how your feeling etc.) very handy when you come to 2nd time around to compare and to say to yourself that you're not being OTT or crazy, and that pregnancy hormones can be a funny bugger!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 17/01/2012 21:41

Evening all! Great to catch up on all the news, especially the bit about your DP's move, Dozey. Does this mean he can go back to work? I remember you saying he had a supportive employer. I guess it will all become clear in time Smile.

hippieshake, I know nothing about teaching assistant work, but it sounds like a really good idea to think of an alternative to your present job, since they've been so crap! You'll be well out of it. I can't imagine the stress of juggling irregular hours with a new baby.

Alex, exciting stuff about the move!

I have been really under the weather here with an appalling cold which has really laid me low. It's grim not being able to take any of the usual drugs, but I'm lucky in that I could work from home for the last two days. I'm feeling a lot of baby moving around, but no sense of what is where, or which way up it is. I have an anterior placenta too, so I'm hoping that as everything grows, and I get a bit more clued up, I'll be a bit more savvy (also a first timer!).

iowmum88 · 17/01/2012 22:19

I feel massive at the moment, deffo feel bigger this time round earlier on then with DS! Really hope it settles down soon cause at this rate I'm going to be massive!
Move went well DP may be going away to work for 4 weeks at the weekend, which will be difficult and he misses DS so much.
hippie I'm exactly the same as you after working in a nursery I put my DS in 1 morning a week took him out a few months later as every time I went to pick him up they where all sat down chatting and not playing with the kids and he never settled well if we hadn't of been moving I would have really complained but so many nurseries (usually only a select few of the staff) are the same when I was doing my training and things.
dozey that's really good news about your DP, he sounds so sweet!!! Think my DP could learn a few things from him!!!

Angelyaz · 18/01/2012 04:03

Hi all,

Gosh, have been away for what seems like ages - so many posts to catch up on! Hope you all are doing well, Dozey great news about D-cat, good to hear everyone else's scans etc going well.

Things have been poo with me for the last few days. I had to make an emergency dash to London (about 250 miles away from me) with my elderly mother as we had news that my youngest brother was close to death. He has a long term illness, but the doctors had said he only had days to live. Anyway the last few days have been spent sitting by his bed, willing him to feel better. He won't actually get any better, so my wish is for him to at least be comfortable and peaceful for his remaining days. I had to return home though, work calls and all that, so we are waiting everyday for news. Surprisingly am coping ok, the tiredness was awful after the drive and the stress, but a good chunk of time in bed helped. Unfortunately I am now on night shift for 2 weeks, so am going to exist in a sleep/wake/eat/work pattern for a bit.

The baby doesn't seem to have been affected by my extra stress, moving as much as ever, usually in the evenings. My scan went well, although if anyone else tells me I am difficult to scan because of my size I shall scream!! Yes, I know I am overweight, I really don't need you to comment on it, Miss Sonographer. Oh and the 'scanned with some difficulty due to high BMI' comment you put on my scan reports goes a great way to making me feel better, thanks!

Anyway, rant over... the good news is that my hunch and the local witch's hunch were right, I am indeed having a boy!! He was funny in the scan because everytime they tried to get a view of his face he put up a 'don't photograph me' hand like the celebs do when they are being papped! But when it came to seeing what bits were there, his tackle was so in your face, like he was really proud!! The GPs are really chuffed to be getting a grandson too! And I have succumbed to actually buying a boy outfit, rather than the gender neutral stuff I have so far, which was a real 'aah' moment!

An age ago I said I'd post my baby essentials list, so finally, here it is:

  1. Sleeping - A cot or cot bed. You can make the cot smaller by putting rolled up blankets in a semi circle under the cot sheet, if baby won't settle with that much space around him, that way there is no need for a moses basket. Having said that, I got given a moses basket, but wouldn't have bothered buying one as they grow out of them so quickly. Worth noting that no matter how cheap the cot is if bought new, all cots have to pass the same BSI safety standards. Oh, and mattresses are dead expensive, but it's important to get a new one!
  1. Car Travelling - a size/age appropriate baby car seat. The one I have is part of a pram travel system, and it lies flat, which is great as I can use it for a travel 'cot', or leave baby in it if he is asleep on arrival. I have also got a fab group 1-3 (9 month to 12 years) car seat that grows with your child from baby seat to booster seat.
  1. Carrying - I have a 3rd hand pram travel system - works great, and came up lovely with a wash. Includes the baby car seat, and becomes a pushchair too. I also bought a sling to carry baby for local walks to the shop etc when it's just not worth getting the pram out. The sling I got (there are SO many available!) is ok for babies up to 35lbs.
  1. Clothes - sleepsuits and vests is about all that's needed for the first 3 months at least, plus you'll probably get loads of outfits bought for baby once he arrives. I have resigned myself to the fact that for at least 12 weeks I shall be like a zombie, so sleepsuits for baby and pyjamas for me will be de rigeur! If I manage to get some day clothes on either of us it'll be a bonus! Plus, they grow so quickly that any cute outfits will be worn maybe once before they outgrow them! On the plus side, this means that my lovely friends who have passed on their baby clothes have given me some barely worn, if at all, outfits!
  1. Food - I plan on breastfeeding, so hopefully won't need to get bottles etc, but have a load of muslins for burping cloths.
  1. Bedding - Gro-bags aren't recommended until baby is 8lbs I think, so I have 4 bottom and 4 top sheets and 4 blankets for the cot. Apparently pillow cases work well for moses basket mattresses, or if you are handy with a needle and thread, cut up and edge some single sheets.
  1. Other stuff - changing bag, changing mat, baby bouncer (I have it on good authority that these are a godsend), nappies (I hope to go the cloth route), cotton wool galore and/or baby wipes.

I hope this helps; I did a LOT of research, and luckily as I have been planning this baby for a very long time, I have been able to wait for good deals etc.

Anyway, that's a mighty long post and more than enough for now!!

BlueCrane · 18/01/2012 10:19

Morning all...not sure how long I'm going to last at work today as I feel so so tired and v lightheaded as well as slightly queasy...sat here feeling rather like a zombie!

angel so sorry to hear about your brother, that must be so tough for you all! Hope the night shifts don't take too much of a toll on you, not sure I could deal with that when not pregnant, let alone now! Your list was fab by the way - quick question...the group 1-3 car seat that 'grows' into booster seat etc sounds great, what make etc is it? The tip about pillow cases for the moses basket is good too as if baby is v sicky I can see it being highly possible to run out of sheets v quickly!!

We now have our cotbed and changer unit in boxes in the spare room (soon to be nursery) since I got such a good deal in the sale. We have also started stocking up on wipes, cotton wool etc to spread the cost a bit as we won't notice getting a few deals and things on offer now and it will really help later on. I've also just ordered a Baby Bjorn bouncer chair from eBay after my friend has raved and raved about them (but they're soooo expensive I really couldn't justify buying a new one at full price!). We're planning on using disposable nappies but not sure how many of these to stock up on as I don't know yet which brand we will prefer or what size we will need to start with. I know friends who have found different brands more suitable for different DCs depending on the shape of their bottom/body etc!

Sitting quietly seems to be helping with the lightheadedness a bit... Hmm will see how the day progresses!

Enfyshedd · 18/01/2012 17:46

Afternoon everyone - how are we all today? Dozey - great news about your DP. Angel - sorry to read about your brother. Hippie - no such luck for a tiny bump for me as a first timer; I'm sure I'm as big as some of the girls in the office who are 7months...

Well, the scan went well on Monday. My DM went with me due to awkward appointment time & DP needing to pick up DSS2 from school. And LO yawned! A huge yawn like it was worn out from the effort of posing for the scanner - even the sonographer said that she hadn't seen that many times before and played it back for the the chaperone. All measurements checked out nicely and LO played ball with the not wanting to find out the sex - legs firmly crossed! My DM now thinks it's a girl though (covering her modesty).

Just got to sort out trying to move house ASAP, especially as it's impossible to take time off in March & April in my job (Finance + end of tax year = busiest time of year). They might give me some leeway considering, but I wouldn't count on it, so I'd better prepare for a couple of weeks of long evenings of packing.

Dozeyland · 18/01/2012 20:33

VictoriaSpeedwell DP will be able to go back to work within 6 weeks of "settling in " there. and his manager said that if DD & I "happen to be in the area where DP is working" then that's fine, and he will allow lunchbreaks etc for us to have a few hours every so often..

Angel sorry to hear about your brother, my thoughts are with you & your family.

Had a headache today, not nice. I think i'm just a bit worn out, and also dehydrated from not enough fluids.. Poor DD still has diarrhoea, I'm going to ake her to the GP if it doesn't settle. so trying to keep her hydrated as it must be taking a lot from her. She's Not been ill once touch wood since birth, and also is as sprightly as usual now. does get a bit grumpy the past week, but i really think teething is a part of it, and definitely tiring herself out where she is now running! So she is herself, just worried as she never has diarrhoea like this, and for more than one day :(

Poo talk for you first-timers ;)

Thanks everyone for your kind wishes.

Dozeyland · 18/01/2012 20:34

Brew Which of you will be watching OBEM tonight then?

AlexTasha · 18/01/2012 20:41

GREAT NEWS - I'M GETTING MARRIED!!!!!
My DP and I decided to book it in and we are getting married on the 3rd of March! Wheeeeeee. SO excited. Just booked a ceremony for us 2 and our witnesses and then we are going to head to Paris on the Eurostar for the weekend (us, not our witnesses too!). Then have a big party back in Oz rather than a proper wedding. Yayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayayay

dozey meeeeeeeeee! Definately watching, although not sure its the best idea Shock

Dozeyland · 18/01/2012 20:47

Congratulations Alex! :)

I will be watching too, Its crazy when watching some of them you really do think "Oh yes.... I feel your pain right now......ouch"

But then it didn't scare me with DD and i had a great labour and it wasnt as bad as I'd anticipated!

VeronicaSpeedwell · 18/01/2012 22:10

Yayyyyyyyy congratulations Alex!!!

I would be watching OBEM, but DH is not keen, so will be saving it up for solo internet viewing. It has never made me feel scared so far. I hope I don't eat my words before May!

Angelyaz · 19/01/2012 01:10

Thanks all for your kind words. My brother continues to fight on but has been a lot more comfortable and peaceful today.

Congratulations AlexTasha!! Brilliant news!!

Bluecrane, the group 1-3 car seat that I have is a Britax Evolva 1-2-3, and it is great!! I have been using it for about a year for my friend's littl'un, and it has great head support for when she falls asleep! I also have the Baby Bjorn bouncer, off Ebay as it has fabulous reviews! It's been sitting in the spare room (soon to be nursery - eek!) for ages waiting for a little fat bottom to sit in it!!
Stupid night shift means I miss OBEM, but I am of course taping it, so will watch it tomorrow morning before I go to bed! Might make for some interesting dreams!!

hippieshake · 19/01/2012 08:11

Congratulations alex that's wonderful!!

I watched OBEM, that young girl annoyed me, I knew she'd be a screamer. x

AlexTasha · 19/01/2012 13:12

Thanks so much for all the congrats :) so happy.

I watched OBEM too, I thought the first couple were a bit weird and the young girl obviously had no clue, "I thought, if my friends can do it I can too." Geeeeeeeze, how old are you again?
I forced my DP to watch it and thank god I did cos he didn't realise babies came out purple and said he would have freaked out if he hadn't known! hahahaha

Dozeyland · 19/01/2012 20:26

I watched it too, and as I was watching I was talking to myself (the joys of being alone right now :() "right she will now start to feel it, 1,2,3....... then she goes AHHH. I was thinking she is going to know what its really like in a minute.

I know I mean i'm 22, but saying that "if my friends can do it" crap is very silly...
It annoyed me when she was sat tapping away on her blackberry thinking it was all going to be a fair ride! :s

Its funny watching those, because you really can relate, but the ones who SCREAM so much, i just cringe. but then again everyone has a different pain threshold.. I guess you just manage it in your own way. I knew that i didnt want to make a fuss, and no pain relief, and just wanted to get it over with and hopefully try ot enjoy the experience. yeah the pain is horrible but you forget it, and it goes right away! (IMOE of course)

x

hippieshake · 19/01/2012 21:42

She surely wasted all of her energy screaming though, I would've thought the easiest thing was to try and focus through the pain?

I also quite liked how she was talking about how the dad had text her saying they could apply for a free flat now. rolls eyes

Dozeyland · 19/01/2012 21:47

That was shocking!

Yeah I felt like that, I needed to know I was in control of my body, and i just thought "I need to do whatever it takes to get our baby out as safely as possible" the pain i just dealt with in my own way. breathing correctly is THE best advice i had. especially when the head is crowning, and you're to "pant", not "push" - great advice, and i found this easy! and im usually a wimp!

iowmum88 · 19/01/2012 22:56

dozey That is exactly how I felt and exactly what I said. Some people thought I was mad but I was just so focused on getting DS out safe that I dont think I really thought about the pain especially cause DS was premature I just wanted to keep him safe and that ment me being in control and feeling everything.
Glad I'm not the only person with that outlook (and stuck to it)!! Wink

alwaysanauntie · 20/01/2012 08:56

Ha ha, the comments above on OBEM have made me chuckle. I watched most of it last night when DH went out ( the baying beasts really upset him, part of the reason I want a home birth, he'd run a mile if he stepped foot in a delivery unit :o ) I have to say I did laugh at the Indian lady doing her impression of a flying dinosaur (sounded like "akaaaaw"!) But was impressed she pulled it together for actual delivery. I'm still hoping I can be calm & in control but as a first timer guess I won't know until it happens...

Angelyaz hope your db is comfortable & not in pain.

Dozey yay that your DP finally has a date for his move, & for his boss being understanding.

Alextasha the time will fly by! So much for you to look forward to! My DH desperately wants to move to oz, we lived in SE Queensland for a year & miss it so much (stupid visa points test...)

AlexTasha · 20/01/2012 15:01

Hahaha always a flying dinosaur, that made me laugh out loud at work! I thought she was on some serious drugs too, but all she had was gas and air I think, she looked like she was tripping! And she was the best of the lot so that says it sall really.
The council flat comment was ridiculous. Thats exactly the kind of people that I hate paying taxes for! grrrr. Sorry, I know thats a contentious subject.
Queensland is gorgeous, sucks that you can't live there if thats where you would like to be :(
