Oooooh purpletoes sounds very exciting - just keep thinking of the snuggles and you'll be fine.

Confu3ed looking forward to having you over here

twitt I've started doing pregnancy pilates which is good - it's nice to meet a few mums in my area - I'm not doing NCT classes this time round and think that I'll miss that support network.

All going well here - had my Glucose Tolerance Test this morning (or Trial by Lucozade as I'm now calling it) get the results tomorrow or the day after.

Then on Thursday it's an appointment with an anaesthatist as I'm very awkward and they like to be prepared - basically I've got two slipped disks and am probably allergic to modern anasthetics as I'm allergic to raw egg white and the modern anasthetics contain traces of raw egg white. And i've had 3 GA in the last 18 months so I guess they want to talk about that too.

Obviously I'm hoping to not actually have an anaesthatist involved in the birth but I guess they're just being safe - which is a good thing.

Then it's a bit of a lull in the appointments until the 28 week one with the midwives on the 1st of March.

mousebacon · 14/02/2012 20:40

Ooh! Good luck purple

to all Grin

shellshock7 · 15/02/2012 10:26

Hope no news from purpletoes means baby has arrived Smile

I think I need the haddock bringing over from the conception thread....I am mentalling like crazy! The baby is moving so much at the moment, all day and vigorous (still not when I'm asleep tho, good boy!), when he stops my brain starts panicking that he was in distress and now he is quiet something is wrong Sad I just wanna give myself a good shake and enjoy feeling him moving around in there....fish slap me please!!!

Also, can I ask whether you guys carry your hospital bag/ maternity notes around with you now? I haven't been doing but am thinking it might be a good idea to start soon?

Hope everyone is feeling good at the mo Smile

LAF77 · 15/02/2012 11:11

shell I will give you a slap with the haddock. However, I'd have to do the same to myself, because I was feeling the same yesterday. Baby was going wild on Monday and had a fairly quiet day yesterday. He's back to being busy today. I'm pretty sure he was facing inwards yesterday as I can normally feel his little feet and elbows pushing around, but yesterday, I couldn't. I did feel some moving around, but not as much, as when he faces outwards. If you are worried, you can go in for monitoring. I haven't done that yet myself.

Hope purple has her baby now! I'd love to update the list to show her new arrival.

knitter 2 slipped discs, ouch! Hope you get a good result from GTT.

Con3ued hope you have had your 20 week scan now and are ready to join us.

twitwoo there is so much that you could buy out there. I am so keen to breastfeed and I want to do as much as I can to make it easy for me. The brest friend pillow was recommended to me. We are considering getting a bedside cot, like the baby bay, but they are eye wateringly expensive. We have a moses basket, but having the baby right next to me without actually being in the bed and worrying about rolling onto him, sounds divine.

I've been doing NCT which has been nice to meet other mums to be as I've just moved. I think DH is enjoying it too and getting more engaged in the birth process. We had to discuss if we wanted our partners to watch the business end of the birth. I am not sure about all of this, but if he wants to, then I guess he can. What do you all think about it?

I have to admit that I had a really bizarre dream last night after the class. I dreamt that I was going into labour and decided to start participating in the marathon and was running for 2 hours but was only 2cm dilated. I then had to push but baby was stuck and they had to get the forceps out and I didn't want them and then I woke up. I think seeing pictures of the delivery suite were a bit distressing for me. I hated the obstetrics bed and seeing the resuscitation equipment. I don't want to imagine myself in that room.

KnitterNotTwitter · 15/02/2012 15:10

shell I'm going on holiday to scotland at easter and we're thinking of taking baby carseat, hospital bag and notes with us then just in case - although baby would be 6 weeks early then which would be a bit scary. I guess that after that I'll try and carry my notes around if I'm going anywhere interesting...

LAF yes it was 'ouch' at the time - was rowing at University and really should have known to stop before the disks actually went. Interestingly what fixed them was being pregnant with DS - however now they're in my notes everyone gets very stressed over them!

News came back from the hospital that the GTT went fine - no maternity diabetes here... whoop whoop!

p.s. consider youself fish slapped if it would help :)

shellshock7 · 16/02/2012 12:23

Thanks for the slaps guys, sorry you are metalling too laff

I really want to breast feed too, but really feel like we are being set up to fail the way it is talked abt, that it is gonna be really hard and all the probs you can have, if you know what I mean....makes me stress! Had the feeding class that's part of our antenatal classes last night, bad luck if you want to bottle feed! The class was good but didn't really make me feel any better, just think we have to hope for the best really, I want to try and do 6 weeks at least (midwife said main benefits are in the first 6 weeks?) and will re-evaluate then if we are struggling?

DH isn't sure what he wants to do at the birth, think he is just gonna see how he feels.....if I'm upright he said he might like to be the one who 'catches' the baby, but isn't sure whether he would cut the cord? Just gonna see how it goes I think?

knitter great news re the GTT and Scotland sounds lovely, I would defo take my hospital stuf if I was goin away too, and yeah maybe I'll just carry my notes now in the assumption DH can always pop home for the rest if needs be as we will be near home / hospital Smile

shellshock7 · 17/02/2012 09:52

Oh wow, congratulations purpletoes so pleased for you! Grin

50 hours tho!

KnitterNotTwitter · 17/02/2012 10:10

congratulations purple I'm sure eoin is worth every one of those 50hrs though :)

Had my anaesthatist appointment yesterday and she's all happy - she's going to write up a management plan should bad things happen and I need anasthetic during the birth but fingers crossed I'll get by on gas and air and shouting again... She did also recommend that I get myself properly tested to work out what i'm actually allergic to as the alternative anasthetic is gradually being withdrawn from the market apparently and so we need to pin it down. Something to be done when on mat leave m'thinks...

KnitterNotTwitter · 18/02/2012 22:33

Oh well - just me here then!

Thought I'd let you know that amusingly - having spend the afternoon with a 2week old baby - my collostrum seems to have come in! Can squeeze out tiny drips from both boobs... Good to know the norks are still in working order I suppose...

mousebacon · 19/02/2012 09:44

at knitter Grin

I've officially passed the 24 week mark now and DH & DS spent yesterday sorting out the baby's room. I'm so looking forward to mat leave!

Massive congratulations purple Smile

shellshock7 · 20/02/2012 08:41

That's good news knitter and hopefully you can get to the bottom of it once and for all Smile

And how mad re the colostrum! I haven't had any of that at all, must feel very strange!

Hi mouse congrats on reaching 24 weeks Grin sorting the room is so exciting, roll on your maternity leave!

Got midwife in a bit, gonna ask when they can start sweeps, I would like to avoid induction if possible so am happy to have as many sweeps as it takes? Not sure if this is the right thing but am gonna ask anyway! Also having at least half a pineapple a day, been building up the dosage of the raspberry leaf capsules since 32 weeks, curries ahoy so am dong my bit ha ha

Hope everyone is feeling good at the mo Smile

KnitterNotTwitter · 20/02/2012 12:44

shell how exciting - you and stitch are really quite imminant now aren't you!

For me i did a bit of cosmic ordering and had reflexology to bring on labour. I also tried castor oil but don't think that made a difference to me to be honest.

The collostrum is pretty weird - I was surprised when cleaning my nips and a bead of it appeared. The same thing happened at about 35 weeks with DS but this is obviously a lot earlier - freaky boobs!

Bean is having a lovely rummage and wriggle at the moment :)

LadyMaybe · 23/02/2012 08:55

Oh heavens I hate my netbook sometimes, I can be merrily in the middle of writing a post it and it will decide that NOW is the time to install updates and restart...wiping everything I was doing in the process...gah!

Anyway, huge congratulations (belated, as ever!) to purpletoes on the birth of your son, great news. I expect there's a bit of a story to tell with that long labour, hope to hear more details at some point when you're up to it.

All seems well here, got scanned and measured again, measured by MW and as I suspected, she palpated and measured me at the right size for dates (and raised an eyebrow and OB's previous measurement). Baby is tracking on growth scans within the normal range but I still think it will probably be on the big side.

LAF, I had that brestfriend pillow with DS, no one stocked it at that point but I got one off ebay - it's very good, especially being able to strap it to you tightly, am hoping to discover it at the bottom of one of the unpacked boxes I have still to work through in the next few weeks.

Knitter - colostrum hey? I have to confess I haven't attempted to find out whether I've got any yet, but I don't think so yet. Who knows, I never leaked before DS so maybe I won't with this one either.

Looks like there's a bit a gap now before we can start putting the hot compresses on -- better get on with my knitting.

LAF77 · 23/02/2012 09:11

Good to hear from you lady I just decided to pop in as you posted! Hope you find your brest friend pillow. There are so many things that are recommended as good things to have to help with your baby, it is a minefield!

Knitter so you are good to go on the milk production! I don't seem to be able to produce any colostrum, but I notice that there are some dried little bits in my nips (sorry if TMI)! When I take them out, they are replaced again, so maybe it is colostrum?

Are you still a lady of leisure shell and enjoying your maternity leave?

I haven't seen stitch around for awhile. I hope that she is OK. Perhaps her baby is already here!

I'm pleased for you mouse that you are able to feel confident that you've reached viability. It is a big milestone and here's to hoping baby stays put for awhile longer!

Confu3ed was also going to check back after her 20 week scan too.

I have a hospital check-up tomorrow to see how baby is growing. Hopefully, like you lady I will be still within the normal range. I stopped taking aspirin 2 weeks ago, so hopefully baby is still OK. He is growing when the bump is measured.

I have 1 more week left at work and I can't wait for it to come to an end.

hello ladies, just a quick post as at work and on my phone.
Had scan yesterday and baby is doing well, bigger than expected but not enough to move my dates. I do think it will be a big one! It......i should say he!! So pleased its a boy as i will have one of each and dd is really pleased although threatening to dress him up in pink!
so excited now as it is finally seeming real!!!
Catch up properly later and will add myself to the list :) x

LAF77 · 23/02/2012 11:59

Yay confu3ed it is great to hear of your success. Welcome to team blue! We can update the list with your dates if you want.

LAF77 · 23/02/2012 12:09

Sorry, on my phone too, and saw that you want to update the list with your dates!

stitchinline · 23/02/2012 14:46

Sorry I've been AWOL for a bit!

No baby here yet but getting very close (shoves head back in sandpit at thought of birth). MW has said she will be very surprised if baby is any less than 4kg - eek

Loving being on maternity leave and just pottering about doing nice things and nesting activities. DH have been eating out lots and doing things together

I so can't wait for my squishy baby, if nothing happens before next Wednesday I go in for induction - because of the fragmin they want to "manage" the drugs and have me off them for as short of time as possible. I stopped the aspirin at 36 weeks. MW has said she will do a sweep Monday but don't hold out much hope of that doing anything.

Had a bit of a run-in with some iron tablets last week, ended up in hospital with dehydration after 2 days of vomiting - still makes me feel ill at the memory of it. Starting to come down with a bit of a stinky cold now but just resting and fluids so hopefully will be over soon.

Baby is super wriggly these days - in fact feels like she might burst through at any moment.

Waves to everyone and hopefully next post will have more news!

oooh - lots of posts its been so quiet recently.....

LAF - I know what you mean about the dry bits on your nips. My theory is that it is old cells and stuff being pushed out of your milk ducts by the body as it starts gearing up for colostrum and milk... I have to give mine a good clean out and de-gunk every couple of days!

The actual colostrum seems to have gone away again which is quite good m'thinks - still think it's amazing that an hour with a 2 week old can have that effect on boobs.

My latest news is that my ankles have gone totally bonkers - all puffy and uncomfortable - have to spend the day either moving around or with them up, ideally above my head. Bit of a challenging set of criteria for work! I'm going to start going to see a reflexologist to get my ankles under control - the one I saw when pregnant with DS was amazing although sadly she's moved to scotland.

Bump is wildly uncomfortable too - can only assume that the bean is growing as I've got stretching type pains. I foolishly tried to measure myself over the bump today and came back with 32cms.... and I'm only 27 weeks. I will assume this is user-error rather than a sign that i'm lining myself up for a world record sized baby....

Hey knitter tell me more about cosmic ordering? What is it and do you think it worked? I've been considering acupuncture as a last report to avoid induction if sweeps don't work? I've got first sweep a week on Monday, day after due date, so hoping that will help! I've been lucky with the swelling, only get it when I'm visiting someone with a really hot house, sounds like a nightmare Sad. Don't worry about measurements, I was always massively ahead (with the midwife) and have slowed down last couple weeks so things can change!

Glad to hear all is going well lady, how is the kitting going? We have a gorgeous drawful of knitted cardis and blankets off my mum, so cute Smile

How did it go at the hospital laf?

Congrats *confu3ed' how exciting finding out you are having a boy Smile

Any news *stitch' or still on for induction on Wed? Sorry to hear you've been ill, how rubbish. Snap re super wriggly baby, can't believe how strong he is these days!

No changes for me, just waiting now, eating lots of pineapple and spicy food (fajitas tonight with extra chillis!) and just really tired, but can't seem to sleep....over active brain thinking abt everything. Lots of Brixton hicks too which keep me awake Wondering if they'll change into the real thing, heres hoping!

hey shell I think that what I did was cosmic ordering... Basically I worked out exactly when it would be really convenient for DS to arrive. It all had to fit around other people's schedules - my sister who is a teacher was on summer holidays so was jetting around. She did have a window of opportunity to see DS on the 11th to 13th though... DH was having a bitch of a time at work but it was all going to ease up on Monday the 11th....

Stuff like that - so basically we worked out a massive list of jobs for me to do on my mat leave that would fill up my days until the 11th. As it happened I didn't finish the list of stuff until the end of day on the 11th. I went into labour on that night - DS born on the 12th. My sister could see DS for two days before jetting off to Ibiza. Parents could come on the 13th. Milk was in by the 15th - Friday - so could have visitors for the weekend.

You see - perfect scheduling.

shell things went well at the hospital. I have been cleared to back into the MWLBU which I am really pleased with. I have had a healthy uncomplicated pregnancy, but have a complicated obstetric history. I feel more relaxed now as looking at the pictures of the delivery suite made me nervous. Baby is a big 'un, 7lbs 9oz with under 4 weeks to go at the scan. I know that they can be inaccurate, but it is not likely that our baby will be small. He seems to be in proportion now which is good. His tummy was off the charts whilst the rest of him was still on the scales, but now, everything is in proportion at the top end. Most of the measurements were reading 41+ instead of 36+.

I am going to do some cosmic ordering too, knitter I'd like him to be born on the 15th, just for the reason that DH and I were also born on the 15th too, so it would be nice for all of us to be the same. I don't want to go overdue, but I will be term on Wednesday. I would prefer him not to be born on the 29th of February either as I think that must make things a bit confusing for birthdays in the future.

Thinking of you stitch and hope that baby is coming soon!
