Thanks Velvet. The system we were looking at has a car seat and carry cot included, but I'm not sure how safe the car seat is as it's not one of the main brands. I keep hearing the Maxicosi one is the best, so maybe I should be looking for a system that can incorporate that. x

twitt a good thing to do is to go the library and have a look at the Which? reports on car seats - the MaxiCosi normally comes out top in the safety tests and the car seat was one area that I thought it wasn't worth saving money on if that makes sense.

I always heard that if you have to a baby can stay in the carseat for up to 3hrs but it shouldn't be a regular occurrence... For us that just got me to my parents house- phew!

One other controversial thought is whether you actually need a buggy... you could just use a sling...

twitwoo there is a forum for pushchairs on MN, so you can ask questions there. There are a lot of pushchair enthusiasts who can offer you opinions based on your situation

I bought a travel system that has a carrycot, takes a car seat, and acts as a chair. It was a big deal for me to commit to buy one!

twittwoo I'd read ages ago (ie when pg with DS) that it was 2 hours max in a carseat for newborns - which is probably all you'd get away with before they wake for a feed/nappy change anyway. I'm afraid long car journeys will have to be tackled differently from now on !

Talking of carseats. Thinking we might have to try and borrow/buy another secondhand baby carseat (from friends who we know haven't had any accidents rather than off eBay). We got given one for DS which is now at least 8 years old. So although safe, definitely not the safest. Darn, need to send out another begging email.

hi ladies, hope you're all well, I need some hand holding and positive thoughts! I've had 2 early mc's, taken a break from ttc dc2 and got a great new job. Me and dp decided to start trying again last month. Last few days I've felt a bit 'off' so decided stupidly, or so I thought, to take pg test even though my period isn't due for another few days. Lo and behold I have a line! It's faint but it's there. I can't even take it in! I want to get excited but I'm sat here on the brink of tears wondering how this is going to end. x

Gemdrop - good luck for everything. It's so hard to stay positive but remember there is a life inside you now and that is the first step. Definitely stay around here if you want although you might find us all a bit far down the road - there are lots of lovely ladies at the early stages like you on the thread that LAF mentioned too though.
