knitter I still feel like that too and have gone back to having really bad bump envy!

KnitterNotTwitter · 13/01/2012 21:36

Thanks folks - it is comforting to know that I'm not the only nutter out there :)

I've got yet another hospital appointment come through today - this time it's the gestational diabetes test. DH has been very kind and said that the joint account can pay for the 500ml of lucozade that I have to take with me... Annoyingly the appointment is for 7.50am on Valentines Day... So much for a sleepy snuggle with DH :( Oh well. they've referred me because DS was so big (10lb 6oz) but I didn't have diabetes with him - he was just big!)

So that is 5 appointments I've got coming up in the next 4 weeks - crazy... Obviously they're all on different days.... at least they're all first thing in the morning so not too impactful on work...

It has to be said that in the last 5 years I've got my money's worth out of the NHS...!

Love to you all

KnT

Twittwooo · 14/01/2012 08:25

Hi everyone, I'm quietly but bravely joining you from the Freak Out thread. I'm 20+3 today and had my scan yesterday. Both DH and I were feeling very nervous about it, even more than at the 12 week scan for some reason, but I am so, so grateful that things are looking good. Phew! We also found out we're having a little girl which we're delighted about, although of course a healthy baby is the most important thing and we would have been very happy either way. We even went to buy a couple of little dresses yesterday in celebration - is it too early? Anyway, I thought, with some persuasion from LAF77, that it was time to move over here. Lovely to be here!

Velvetcu · 14/01/2012 10:41

Welcome twitt great news on the scan and on being team pink Smile it's weird when you start buying stuff isn't it because then you've half accepted you're actually going to have a baby and then that starts you off mentalling again!

I was hoping for top of the list news this morning! Hope you are all good

LAF77 · 14/01/2012 12:11

Yay for joining us over here twitwoo I'm on my phone so I can't update the list with your details. It is hard to believe its really happening after a loss or losses, but making it to half way is great. I can't believe I'm in weeks that start with 3 now!

I'm under express instructions from DH not to buy anymore clothes for the baby.

knitter I've been making good use of the NHS too. I had my anti-d injection yesterday. It's a big needle and it does hurt! The MW was lovely and offered her commiserations on my MCs when she saw my notes. She was very patient with me and asked me if I had anymore questions. I'm a bit concerned about some itchy areas on my legs, so she agreed that I should see the GP ASAP to make sure I don't have OC. The GP was also good to me and said that she would talk through the results with me on Monday. I probably don't have OC, but I would rather be tested for everything to make sure I haven't missed anything. I was also going to ask for a strep B test at my next MW appt. A girl at work scared me by saying her brother died because her mother had strep B and it wasn't treated. I'm a bit of a nightmare right now I think!

I also doubt that I will go to 40 weeks. My bump was measuring 31cm instead of 30cm, so I have a feeling baby will come before 21st March!

laylasmummy09 · 14/01/2012 12:53

Just popping in to say hi as I haven't been on for a while, congratulations to everyone who has had babies and welcome twitwoo
I just got out of hospital for a virus wich had me on a saline drip for 3 days and DH broke his foot at work, hospital told me to see cmw for a sweep on monday at 39+2 but I'm sure she will tell me its 2 early and refuse to do it but with a bit of luck ill have a baby boy within the week yay!!!

MilkywaysAndBump · 14/01/2012 15:24

Hi all, just wanted to give a little update. We are both home now after a 4 day stay at hospital. Everything is going great, although my right armpit has two big tender swollen glands that ache alot. I've been told to keep rubbing them until they go down, and that I NEED to get rid of them or they will become infected...So I am trying to drain my right breast completely with every feed and hopefully they will go away once I'm over this engorgement period!

I got another second degree tear during labour and needed stitches. I really recommend Arnica tablets for all of you ladies. My bruising and swelling went away after about 3 days, and I feel so much "secure" down there compared to last time!! Also, Lansinoh cream has been a saviour for my nipples.

So I finally know what childbirth feels like as I had an epidural last time! I am lucky that I was only pushing for about 10-15 mins but it was still an "experience"....won't say it was "amazing" or "magical" but definitely worth it! I also feel I made a bit of a fool of myself by screaming at the midwife to "pull it out" when I was pushing....I remember her telling me calmly "I can't pull it out, you need to push"!!! My husband has been teasing me a bit about that for the past few days!!

Oh and one more piece of advice: codeine can leave you constipated, and you may be having quite a few of them to deal with afterpains so remember to keep eating plenty of figs/apricots straight after birth or ask your midwife for lactulose syrup to keep your bowel movements regular. Prevention is better than cure is what I have learnt this time!

funchum8am · 15/01/2012 11:23

Hi everyone I am posting under a new ID but was water plate, I had two m/c in mid and late 2010 and then a year off trying (new job related rather than anything else) but got my BFP no. 3 yesterday and hoping to be able to join you as a new mum in September. Very early days and convinced it will all go wrong but secretly also planning names etc! Third time lucky. I was very very touched to see that I am on your list of people you share the pain and mourn the loss with and I am absolutely delighted and inspired by all your birth stores! Congratulations to all those who are now mums and good luck to everyone still waiting for their big day. I'm off to the Freak out room in the conception threads now!!!

bigmacandhappymeal · 15/01/2012 15:16

Hello everyone!
I'm so sorry to have been AWOL for so long. I've had a very brief chance to scan through a couple of pages so need to have a proper read in a quieter moment. Firstly a huge congratulations to those who have popped, those who have had brilliant scan news and those who have graduated from the Freak Out Room. This is a fabulous thread and I have really missed being on here regularly. I particularly want to echo blackkat, collie and the others - this thread has been a lifeline for me and I feel so proud of everyone and the ups and downs we have all been through together. blackkat your post made me cry :)

We've had an exciting 6 weeks or so with Amy Celeste making an appearance on 5th December after a long latent labour. I'm really happy to share my birth story if people would find it helpful? There's some excitement, some reassurance, some ups and downs and a happy ending! I'm currently being watched for postnatal depression but am OK and Amy is doing really well.

I thought I would add to owl's helpful hints for new mums

  1. completely reiterate the kindle purchase advice - it's been a lifeline for me since I got one for Christmas and the light does allow you to check for sneaky poos
  2. Look after yourself - hormones + tiredness do crazy things to you. It is literally OK to sit in a messy house while you focus on you and the baby
  3. Be prepared for a high degree of breastfeeding fascism in hospital. Even if you want to BF this will be a big shock (at least it was for me) - in particular be ready for some breasticle manhandling which you have to be very firm about preventing
  4. little boys do surprise wees when you change their nappies - so do little girls it turns out! Undo the nappy, expose the fanjo and then quickly put the nappy back to catch any fountainous wee wees
  5. Without a doubt take earplugs to hospital with you - the wards are hellishly noisy
  6. get a thermos cup so that you can keep a cup of tea warmer for longer
  7. make sure you get out of the house, even if it's to go to the shop. It's terrifying at first and takes more planning than the invasion of Iraq but you will feel better for it.
  8. as others have said - Lansinoh nipple cream is your friend and it's cheap(er) on Amazon. If you are going to try BFing, get some now!
  9. breast feed if you can or want to but if you can't it is fine to combi feed or straight out formula feed. Yes BF is 'better' for baby but only if you are OK. Take your time and know that you are not a failure or awful mum for doing it differently. Really.
  10. I was dubious about how much I would want my mum around. If I could I would lock her in my house with me - it is so helpful to have people around who have been there, done it and are happy to help unconditionally

Finally, everyone has advice for you. Listen, file and cherry pick as suits you :)

Lots of love to you all - seriously, this is an amazing group of people

xxx

googietheegg · 15/01/2012 17:19

Hello there new chums, I've decided to join the gang! Am now 22+4 and have had quite a few scans (am in France, they love an internal) and all is well, so I'm thinking I need to accept and enjoy the fact that I'm very probably going to have a baby this time! It's terrifying but very exciting so I hope this is the right place for me?!

I shall have a read of the thread and get to know what's going on with everyone, but in the meantime, hello and good luck to us all!

KnitterNotTwitter · 15/01/2012 18:12

Hey googie and twitt... lovely to have you over here too... I shuffled over here to say 'hi' and they wouldn't let me leave - although I have refused to be on the stats until after Tuesday's scan :)

LadyMaybe · 16/01/2012 10:08

hello,
Lovely to see you joining! Hooray!
I made an attempt at a huge catch up last night but must have left it on 'preview' and then went to bed without actually posting. So am now going with the no catch up approach and just going to dive back in.
We're away for a few days holiday from Thursday, without DS, for a friend's wedding and I'm feeling quite miffed about the lack of wine/champagne that will be consumed by me. I've reached that point where I'd love a drink, but not the point where it feels like the baby is big enough or it's late enough for me to feel ok having one. So it's wistful longing from here on in Grin

YRMOTB I wonder whether you had that conversation about an induction yet? I think you're being wonderfully stoic and giving a great impression of patience by not ranting more often on the thread. I know I wouldn't be so self retstrained in the circumstances, going late with DS was a huge test and I don't think I was particularly gracious. Blush

Looking forward to an exciting 2012 with you all ladies,

Youremindmeofthebabe · 16/01/2012 12:13

Hello all. Lovely to see new faces on the thread, and congratulations to you all on reaching the 20 week milestone. But as knitter says, you aren't allowed to leave. Oh No. Tis Forbidden.

ladymaybe my conversation is today. Or rather today is when I should be induced, but don't want to be! I am +11 today, but wish to wait until +14 before being induced, which is actually the norm at some hospitals, but +11 is the norm here. So, all prepared for a fight on my hands, but if baby is well, then I have no qualms about that. So am off at 230 for checks and chats. Will let you all know how it goes. Am uncomfy, and quite grumpy, and certainly ungracious in the face of various text messages, at least inwardly, but also kind of enjoying the calm before the storm.

And as for old wives tales, I've tried everything. EVERYTHING!!

milky lovely that you are home. I'm only a teensy bit jealousGrin.

laylasmummy09 · 16/01/2012 15:40

Oooh hope your convo went well yrmotb I know its + 11 at my hospital too as I had appointment with cmw from a different hospital at +12 she gave me a sweep then rang my hospital to book induction and got an earful for not doing it before then, they asked me to come in straight away but I refused and the sweep worked, I know the hospital where the midwife worked induced +13,
I won't be queue jumping though Smile as mw has not got back to me re sweep and absolutely nothing is happening here x
Welcome newbies and good luck, this thread is fab x

LAF77 · 16/01/2012 21:23

As expected, I don't have obstetric choleostasis. I just have some very dry and itchy patches of skin on my legs. I've got some industrial strength moisturiser from the GP and it seems to be helping to control the itching.

Apparently my white blood cells are higher than normal so I could have a urine infection, so I have to get checked out for that again. I don't have any obvious physical signs of it, but higher white blood cell count can be common in pg allegedly. Trying not to get too wound up about it.

YRMOTB hope that you have been able to buy yourself some wiggle room on the induction.

laylasmummy I'm sorry to hear that you have had a rough time of it. Glad to hear that you have made a recovery from the virus.

milky so happy to hear that you are out of hospital. I'll try to remember your tips when it is my turn.

Hope to see you back again funchum8am

I've updated the list again with tomorrow's dates as it made it easier for me and I've added googie and twitwoo on the list, so join the party! dachs and lady well done for getting to viability. You must be happy to cross that milestone.

Waves quickly to every one! Lovely to see the weeks increasing on the list.

I second everything Big Mac says, secret wees, the lot! Would add:

get all your favourite programmes on series link (although we've just run out of Big Bang Theory - sob!)

However isolated you feel you are, there will be stuff to do. And if you can't face going to baby groups then go to something for you and take baby - most places are delighted to have a little one. We're going knitting on Wed at the local sheltered housing!

If you can't live with a messy house, or your oh doesn't understand the concept of housework, get a cleaner. 2 hrs a week has saved my sanity

As Big Mac says, be prepared for breast feeding fascism. Your health visitor, or any other health professional you see after 15 days does not care how baby is fed so long as it is thriving. Mix feeding is fine, formula feeding is fine. We tried to bf but it didn't work so we're ff. A lovely maternity assistant said to me once that if it doesn't work, it's fine, and she's seen so much damaged done to women who were struggling to feed, or didn't want to bf but felt they had to. As Big Mac says, you have to look at your own mental health in the equation.

Love the invasion of Iraq simile! Yes it's true but soon you'll be slinging baby in the baby bjorn and going freestyle. And it's the perfect excuse for some lovely bags. I have 2 Mia Tui ones on order - will report back!

LAF77 · 17/01/2012 07:47

bigmac it would be nice to see your birth story if you want to share. I love the name celeste. It is what I would like if I had a girl!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 17/01/2012 10:14

Hello! Just to let you all know that they were fine with reasons for waiting, all very chirpy and nice. Had to do a trace on the baby which involved n hour of kick counting And heartbeat monitoring along with a contraction monitor, bp and tge like. They then gave me another sweep which had very promising effects yesterday and in the night which seems to have tailed off now. Back tomorrow for actual induction. The joys!

laf if it was you who mentioned the itching, I can't scroll bac, have u tried an oat bath? V effective. I had massively itchy shins and it really helped. Basically tie handful of porridge oats in a makeshift material bag and chuck under running water use the bag as a skin rub too when you get in the bath-magic!

Waves to all xx

LAF77 · 17/01/2012 20:07

Thanks for the tip about the oatmeal YMROTB I hope that labour kicks off for you before the induction!

Blackkat · 17/01/2012 21:16

laf just to say the yrmotb patented oat solution worked a treat for me. I was eventually diagnosed with pupps and the oats really harlots ease the itch before I saw the consultant. Try not to scratch!

Blackkat · 17/01/2012 21:34

Erm helped, rather than harlots, sorry iPhone predictive text and breastfeeding shouldn't be mixed!

laylasmummy09 · 18/01/2012 08:14

Hello everyone,
Just wanted to say good luck to yrmotb for today if things didn't kick off already, hope you have a relativly quick and easy labour Thanks
Got midwife this morning, hopefully for the last time at 39+4 I think I read somewhere that the average day for a 2nd baby to be born is 40+3 so in that case I wouldn't get to the next appointment next wed, not holding my breath though as I still have to persuade her to do a sweep, have a good day all x

KnitterNotTwitter · 18/01/2012 23:18

So.... we had our scan and IT'S ALL FINE... whoop whoop.... And we found out that we're in Team Pink :) Have added myself to the stats...

YRMOTB all the best for tomorrow.... looking forward to hearing your news...
