Grin yay Daisy for the show, I'm really hoping things get moving for you today. I'm glad you had a good sleep last night too.

blackkat I agree about the price of baby clothes - I'm only buying in the sale in the more expensive shops (got a lovely dress from baby GAP for £9 :))

mac I don't have any boob leakage either - I don't think it's anything to worry about?? On the nappy front, I've been harassing all of my friends about this and these are the points they have raised.

  1. My cousin who is a nursery manager says there is no difference between decent shop brands (e.g. Sainsburys) and branded ones.
  2. Friends who have kids say a) there is a difference between shop and branded b) there is a difference between brands (most have recommended huggies to me) and c) there is a difference within brands e.g. pampers newborn are good but pampers bigger ones arent! d) some are better at holding wee, some are better at poo.

So I have bought a couple of packs of huggies and pampers and will try supermarket ones once I have worked out what you actually do with a baby when you get one home!

also mac my NCT teacher said that it's easier to use disposables for the first month or so even if you plan to use washables just to give you a chance to get used to things before adding the extra job of nappy washing to your list.

hello wiw how are you?

Irene sorry about the car issues and SIL, glad that you are looking at it positively.

hello to everyone else :)

CollieandPup · 26/09/2011 10:33

Mamap Congratulations on the arrival of your daugher!!

velvet I'm glad the contractions have stopped. Pre-labour pains like that must be very unsettling, but as cep said 37 wks us fully cooked so you're not too far off. I just hope they don't come too often as they don't sound like much fun! Do you have a mw apt to talk to her about it?

daisy poor you! You are doing soooo well! Don't be at all ashamed about the g&a, and well done on sticking to your guns last night and getting some rest. Yay for a show, let's hope today's the day! Thinking of you.

Irene so sorry to hear about your SIL.

blackkat M&P IS so expensive. Clothes wise I've only my snowsuit from there and that was 1/2 price.... in fact, the nursey accessories have all even in the sale too!

Hmmmm leaking breast milk, I'm not either. I suppose I should grateful about that?!!!

Good to know about sainsburys although I've stocked up an a few packs of nappies, and had some given to me in a hamper of goodies. bigmac I've had a similar plan re disposable and reusable nappies.... Start disposable and then move on, but the in I feel the willpower to move to reusable slipping from me already. There is a great plce that sell reusable nappies and offers a cleaning service in a nearby village so I might go and investigate and see if I can be convinced all over again!

Thanks re the formula milk, I was v scared of getting flamed, but people were suprisung helpful. I've already been lectured by a friend about it, which drove me mad!!! I've just got a couple of HIPP cartons for now.

Tired again this morning after a crapy nights kip! And I am wondering if my ms is threatening to make a reappearance. Had nausea fri night, and then early this morning, which eventually made me sick! Booooo

In other news, I'm still bath-less (aparentky I've chosen the orkds most difficult Bath to plumb, which is designed to sit on floor boards with the plumbing underneath the boards.... And we have a concrete floor!!! Oops! To top it off, our shower in the ensuite has broken, so I'm showering at the gym!!!

Daisy good news about the show, hope it is a good sign.

Mac I don't have boob leakage either. I didnt' get it until DS was born last time.

One of the mums at school had her baby this morning. We've been chatting at the school gates for a while and I'd invited her over for coffee and a natter this morning, she was due an ELCS on Wednesday but she had a bleed and had a CS this morning. She now has a lovely little boy. Her friend told me what had happened.

CollieandPup · 26/09/2011 10:37

Ps re nappies, my SIL said to use branded for one particular stage, and non branded for another... But I can't reminder which way around it was or why-I was about 8 weeks pg or so something ridiculous! I'll check!! She is the one who bought me the hamper, which had newborn huggies, so maybe it's branded first, then move on to non branded.

OP posts:
wombatinwaiting · 26/09/2011 10:57

Hi mac - I think with all things pg and baby related, it's a question of anything goes so I wouln't worry too much about the non-colostrum thing. I have had tiny amounts for the last couple of weeks (31+4 today) but it's made me shudder a bit as it just looks a bit cheesy Envy - that is sick emoticon Confused Shock

I was just thinking how interesting about the nappy chat, then realised that the only own brand here is Carrefour.... otherwise it's all the branded stuff - good to know about huggies newborn.

What a bugger re: the bath collie. Great idea on the couple of HIPP cartons. After sat's b/feeding workshop I am more determined and more postitive about b/feeding but it's wise to plan for emergencies! I have had a bit of nausea too in the last couple of weeks.

What are your thoughts on a baby bath inside your bath? Totally unneccessary or quite helpful for nervous first time mums?

My back issues from overdoing swimming seem to have cleared up and I'm back off to aquaerobics tonight - yay!

Still thinking lots of daisy

IreneHeron · 26/09/2011 11:19

WIW, I've got a baby bath. I used it loads with ds, babies are slippery little things and anything that makes things easier is a plus IMO. Also you can put it on the floor or table if you want - particularly useful if you have a cs and don't want to bend over a bath.

Glad you are feeling positive after BF workshop. I don't want to put a damper on, but breastfeeding can be really hard. It is the hardest thing I ever did, and the most painful but in the end I managed to bf DS for 14 months. If any of you have problems I'd advise you to rant on here as you can get lots of good advice. Hopefully everything will go fine and you won't need to.

cep · 26/09/2011 12:42

daisy welldone for sticking to your guns. yay for the show, hopefully something has been happening since your last post.

irene sorry for such a bad week, hope you find a car quickly and that your sil isn't too bad.

wiw i found as they got a little older bath in big bath is a good idea cause they get used to the idea of the big bath. but the baby bath on it's own is fine to start with when they're small.

i have a bf workshop next week as well, i'm really hoping they might be able to help with the issuesi had last time that stopped me bfing ds

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 26/09/2011 13:43

daisy great news re show Smile I had one in the evening with dd and then went into labour in the early hours of next morning, so hopefully it won't be much longer for you now!

bigmac I'm going to go against the grain and say I hated Huggies, the sticky tab kept falling off when I tried to fasten them so I kept having to throw them out unused Angry. Mind you that was 8 years ago with ds so I'm prepared to accept they've probably improved them since then! Dd was always in reusables, and this one will be too, but I have got a pack of newborn pampers for use in hospital and until meconium disappears.

collie well done for posting re formula - very brave! I tried bf with ds, failed and gave up after about 10 days Blush , I know many people who have succeeded and loved it but for several reasons I really struggled and it made us all miserable! I couldn't face it at all with dd Blush Blush but she was happy on fm, I will try again this time though, but have some contingency cartons in just in case! I've always used Aptimil but have bought a couple of each make this time to try out.

velvet glad things have calmed down, fx for a quiet couple of weeks for you!

hotnspicyonions · 26/09/2011 14:41

Congrats to Mamap & Coconuts. The babies are venturing out eventually!

Daisy hoping you'll be craddling your newborn very shortly indeed

Sorry for the short but sweet post, just about to do the school run & check on the kitchen progress, after having a delicious lunch with DP at La Tasca (helped by Vouchercloud 241!) Bloomin lovely in the sunshine, with a great view of the tower, with a bunch of Asda workers abseiling down the side of it. Including what looked like a girl of about 12, brave young thing. Made me very jealous, I want to do another one. And such a great view!

bigmacandhappymeal · 26/09/2011 16:02

Ladies, as ever you have given most wise and helpful viewpoints, thanks. Will scratch the own brand off the list for now and also get in some pampers newborns to do a poo/wee test when, touch wood, the happymeal comes home.

Thanks also for leaky boob reassurance. Will scratch that from the list of things to worry about and instead focus on being in denial about my new friend Steve the Stretchmark

irene I've been meaning to say how rubbish it is about your car. Hope you get it sorted very soon. Nice news about your friend, hopefully she'll be new mum mate?

I've been thinking about babybaths as well but also have been looking at those sort of towelling seats you can put in the tub. I just wondered if they would be a pig to dry and also the good thing about a baby bath is that you can use it anywhere.

velvet how are you doing today?

collie i've been feeling sporadically nauseous. I think for me it's because happymeal is taking up more space than ever and my usual massive amounts of food meals are now too much. I'm going to have to go to smaller things throughout the day I think. However, the risk with me is that I just eat 6 dinners a day. Any chance to be a pig.

bigmacandhappymeal · 26/09/2011 16:18

Sorry, just had to share this. Where I work we have security passes that let us into the various sections of the building. I had to collect something from reception and was standing there swiping my pass to get in and clearly getting increasingly irate and muttery as it didn't work.

Then a passing colleague pointed out that I was swiping my car key.

Minnie74 · 26/09/2011 21:09

evening girls

bigmac steve the stretchmark made me Grin I'm slapping on bio-oil like there's no tomorrow. So far so good which is amazing considering i got a lot on my legs at puberty. Maybe my old lady skin is more stretchy.

collie i'm going to get some formula in too. A lot of people have made bf sound a bit of a nightmare. I am willing to try though but won't feel bad if I can't do it. Plus i'm not really that up for getting my mahoosive boobage out in public!

blackkat add me to the m&p pramsuit courtesy of my mum. The clothes in the outlet m&p are much more reasonable (if a bit out of season!)

velvet glad things are a bit quieter now.

daisy good on you for getting a goodnights sleep. Hope everything is going ok today.

Heard a fast birth story today. Lady at works stepdaughter was about to be induced today as she was 14 days overdue. Last night she went to her mum's for tea with a few stomach pains, an hour or so later went upstairs to lie down a she was in quite a bit of pain. Half an hour later her sister(who is fortunately a midwife) delivered her little girl in her mum's bathroom with just enough time to get her underwear off!!Shock No time for ambulance. All fine. Sounded a bit scary but I wouldn't mind a quick birth myself!

Thanks for the muffin wiw I'm addicted to cake at the moment Blush

dooscooby · 27/09/2011 07:54

Yey daisy so thrilled for you. I was up for ages in the night but resisted the temptation to check MN as I suspected we might have happy news by this morn-woo hoo.

Hope mum is feeling well and home with those buggies soon!

Combination of slightly dead arm from flu jab yest (note to others, don't have it in left arm if you're trying to sleep that side!) and bub seeming to realize that it's arms or legs are longer these days and that it can play trampling on my stomach= terrible nights sleep. Grrr for early morning meetings! Feeling v envious of lara working from home now-how are you and bean quiet Lara, hope you're just having too much fun decorating or shopping and nothing else.

Blackkat · 27/09/2011 07:57
