Velvetcu · 28/10/2011 20:25

I have wandered into the land of post-grads and it's a very very quiet thread! That's why I'm still lingering here.

cep · 29/10/2011 07:24

Morning ladies,

welcome kitkat.

Thanks for all the good wishes, yesterday went fine, a long day. He didn't go in till about 4, so he'd been without food since 7 and water since 11, but he didn't complain once, he started asking for water about 3-3.30 but didn't whinge when i said he couldn't yet. He went to sleep ok no crying although he looked a little worried when they were attaching all the monitor cables etc, then he slept for ages when he came back up. I've even had conversations with him this morning that didn't consist of "what" five times and me resorting to shouting. I'm so chuffed i just want to cry.

I had to laugh yesterday though, when we were shown his bed we were told there was free tv, so ofcourse we tried to get ceebeebies on for him but it wasn't working yet. The anaethetist (who was very cute) came round to discuss what'll happen with the op, and he asked ds how he was "this is broken" says ds pointing at the tv, "oh i'm sorry" "you've got to fix it" says ds, who couldn't understand why everyone was laughing. Thankfully it did work a little later not that ds was that fussed by it.

ooh exciting news mummya not long now then.

What do you ladies think of the names Hollie or Alexis?? dh prefers Hollie, which i quite like but seems like a December name to me, Where as i really like Alexis, middle name likely to be Annie after my gran, which goes with both.

must go ds demanding breakfast.

Biscuitsandtea · 29/10/2011 07:33

Cep very glad that your ds's op went ok", and that you were able to be there for it (I'm right that you're due now aren't I?)

I'm sorry if I'm not very clued up, but being a newbie I'm not sure of the 'back story', so apologies if this is a stupid question, but do you know if the operation has worked / done what it was supposed to do? Or do you have to wait for any test results / follow up now?

How old is? He sounds very cute asking the anaesthetist to fix the tv! Maybe it was a skills test before he would let him do anything to him? Smile

Hope he's wolfing down his breakfast now after being such a trooper with the not eating yesterday xx

cep · 29/10/2011 07:54

biscuits thanks Grin I'm due in a week, although there's a debate with the scan so could be 10th.

He's got to go back in 6 weeks to check it's working and that fluid isn't building up again. But so far this morning i've been amazed at the difference already, it had gotten to the point that if i didn't shout i'd have to repeat it 3 times, but i haven't had to repeat anything or shout this morning. He's 3 and says exactly what he thinks. They all loved him yesterday cause he just kept saying yes to everything they said to him. and he asked another mum where her daddy had gone when her husband went to get a drink. Grin
He asked for a big bowl (one of ours) has eaten most of that and now wants a slice of bread which choc spread on it. i definately think he's making up for yesterday. Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 29/10/2011 08:10

Aw that's great news cep. My DS is 3 too and they say such cute things don't they Grin

Ireneiswaiting · 29/10/2011 09:19

Cep your lovely DS, glad the op went well. You must be so relieved.

Blackkat · 29/10/2011 09:43

cep so pleased all went well for de, sounds like he kept the ward amused! Hope all is well when you return.

Big hugs to Irene hang in there Smile

onions belated congrats here on thread, as I said elsewhere lovely name xx

mummya pleased you have a date sorted and I love the symmetry of it!

Kat so lovely to see you here, keep lurking pls until you graduate properly.

wiw am worrying about the other side too, but think fb might be better than the Postgrad thread, well until we're all busy there.

Waves to everyone, not been around much sorry. Baby is fully engaged according to two midwives, cue scurrying about to buy things and finally understanding this is real, at the same time as trying to finish up at work, happily I've managed to stay calm!

Lovely weekends all x

Purpletoes · 29/10/2011 11:31

Hope everyone is having a good weekend heading to the baby show in earls court. Wish me luck!

Leaves French toast brunch for everyone

LAF77 · 29/10/2011 14:22

[shyly pokes her head in] hello ladies, I've been lurking here for a couple weeks. I don't have the courage to join yet, having been through RMC, I've learned not to get too ahead of myself, although I'm 19+3, I want to wait for the results of my scan at 20+2. I've "met" several of you on other threads, and I'm so happy to see everyone's progress.

mummya wow, C-day is nearly here! So thrilled for you.

irene hope that you are in the hospital pushing the baby out.

purpletoes it was your comment today that coaxed me out of lurking. I'm due to go to the baby show tomorrow, so if you have any tips or hints, please let me know. I don't want to get carried away, but I can't help wanting to go, and look at all of the things on offer.

Hope to join properly next week!

cep · 29/10/2011 16:58

Thanks ladies. Grin i'm just glad it's done with.

purple i did the baby show before ds was born and although busy and tiring i enjoyed it.

laf go onto the babyshow website and somewhere on there should be offers you may be able to find freebee things or price reduction that isn't otherwise advertised. wear comfy shoes, mind your ankles as no matter how packed it is there are hundreds of parents with pushchairs. take water to drink. keep eye out for freebee stuff as you walk round they hand out plastic bagc of stuff at some of the stalls. if you have an idea of what you want get prices in your head so you don't get what you think is a bargain to find after that it's not. otherwise enjoy.

Ireneiswaiting · 29/10/2011 18:49

Hiya LAF, don't be shy!

Purple hope the baby show is good, I expect it will be tiring.

I went into hospital this morning. Just wanted them to check because of reduced movement. They monitored me and it was all fine so I went home after half an hour. Was too shy to ask for a sweep, wish I wasn't so pathetic. I'm resigned to an induction on 2nd. The midwife said I'd probably get a pessary and a sweep then and if that doesn't work, a drip.

wombatinwaiting · 29/10/2011 19:07

Welcome LAF and feel free to dip your toe in for a while - it is a bit surreal being on here at first!

Good to see you again velvet!

Waves to mummya - were you expecting a c section this time? Great date for birth!

I'm impressed wtih your calmness blackkat - clearly you have been absorbing zen vibes from onions! When's your last day?

Fab news about ds' op cep - you must both be v relieved and v pleased, particularly for getting it in before your due date - can't believe it's next week! I like both names - how do you feel about nickname of "Alex" or "Holl"? Might help to make up your mind!

Glad to hear that all is well with bubs irene - must be an absolute bore hanging around..... don't feel bad about feeling shy - I think it's when we're in the presence of apparent "experts" that we lose all sense of confidence and normality. Still a good 2 days to go before i day.... anything we can sacrifice for you? I'm sure I could round up a couple of camels Grin

Had a call with MIL in NZ this morning and she suggested Amber for a girl and Haydyn for a boy today, neither of which we violently object to but she seemed most put out when we said it would be neither as we had already chosen 2 for each!

Purpletoes · 29/10/2011 21:49

irene keeping fingers crossed for IOU.

laf welcome -

cep glad everything went well with son's op.

So the baby show was a success but tiring!! DP was excellent as bag carrier and trying out all the buggies. We have decided onthe uppababy vista.

We also got some blankets and baby towels but DP was most pleased with swimming lesson info and the reusable swim nappy! GrinWink

Am heading off for some QI then bed I think!

TheMummyAbroad · 30/10/2011 01:22

hello ladies,

LAF nearly 20 weeks - I am so pleased for you!!! Grin I understand after all you have been through its very hard to get to a place where you feel you are in the "safe zone" but its wonderful to hear how far along you are. Will keep everything crossed for you for your scan. xxx

cep sorry to hear your DS has been poorly. Its just heartbreaking when little ones are ill. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

long time no see! The C-section story is quite a long one, basically its hard getting a VB over here in private hospitals (c-sec rate is 80%!) and the style of VB's are very intrusive and not at all how I would like to give birth either (DS was born in UK in a midwife led centre - great VB experience) I do have some risky factors for VB (in the UK, they wouldnt bat an eyelid but over here is has all been used as "evidence" as to why I shouldnt have one) Anyway it is booked now - I am actually more scared of this than I was for the natural birth with DS!

irene sorry I am afraid holding the baton is only going to make me feel more wobbly than I already do I am afraid we are going to have to stick to an orderly queue system and you are next!

best wishes to all the other lovely ladies on the thread, especially those who leave snacks like purple Grin

mousebacon · 30/10/2011 07:57

Just swinging by to wish mummya lots of luck for Tuesday (and you irene Grin )

cep · 30/10/2011 09:13

Morning ladies.

irene i'm the same as you, i'll go with the plan to demand something but when faced with professionals don't actually get the nerve. or it comes out as a squeak (imagine oliver style more request). Only a few more days now, just keep trying the currys, walks, sex and those nipples.

mummya he only had a bit of a cold, i was just worried it'll postpone his grommet op. Thankfully, it didn't develop into anything worse. Good luck for Tuesday.

wiw it is so awkward with il's suggesting names, at least with my folks i can just say no that's horrid. Grin

I don't mind either nickname, i liked the fact with Alexis you could have Alex or Lexi. I'm worried that Hollie Annie is a bit too rhymy but at least it's not Hollie Polly. Grin

wombatinwaiting · 30/10/2011 15:51

That is really high c/s rate mummya Shock - very best of luck for that and I hope the recovery is swift. I can't help feeling it must be odd to know exactly when you're going to meet your baby.....

Any news from you today irene? Thinking of you lots.

Had ob/gyn appt today and all seems fine which is great - she doesn't want to see me for another 2 weeks and even then the earliest appt I could get with her was when I'll be 38+5 - gulp! She said I had a lovely tummy Hmm and on the scan that the baby was cute - she probably says to all her patients, but it was still lovely to hear it !!

Ireneiswaiting · 30/10/2011 17:58

Mummya I don't really mind about the baton. I'm resigned to an induction followed by every intervention available, followed by a CS, just like last time. Don't wibble about the CS, they're fine, honestly. Yes the scar will hurt to begin with but it soon gets better.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 30/10/2011 18:29

Grin at mummya and irene arguing over who's not going to have the baton!

It is lovely though to think that you'll both be meeting your babies over the next few days - I can't wait to hear your news Smile

cep hmm that's a tricky choice re names; I think I prefer Hollie but I think Alexis goes better with mn (but then how often do you say the whole name together?) so I don't know...sorry that wasn't much help was it? Grin

We're still on Catherine or Penelope/Harry or Joseph...I think I've canvassed opinions from you ad infinitum on this score but if anyone has anything else to add, feel free Grin

Got a scan on Weds to check for placenta (low-lying at 20 weeks) and position of baby (was transverse breech two weeks ago). MW says if still breech I'm likely to be offered ecv to turn baby (fx he or she has turned - I don't fancy that much!) - has anyone got any experience of ecv they can share?

TheMummyAbroad · 30/10/2011 20:11

ooh Irene I really hope you dont get all those interventions and then section!! Surely having been through that once means you should get to have the Easiest Birth Ever. I will try and have a word with the universe to see if I cant sort that out for you Grin

cheers mouse Smile

cep glad its nothing serious. Over the last month or so I have got so easily upset and panicky about everything, dealing with health probs with DS must be stressful.

I am also having a last minute name wobble, thinking of switching from Max which I have been using faithfully for the last 6 months to Ronnie... feeling all indecisive. I am hoping seeing his face will help the decision Smile

Izzy dont know about the ecv, but I did "the inversion" position about 4 times and it worked at getting Max/Ronnie turned around. Have you tried it yet?
Instructions here spinningbabies.com/

Apparently sometimes it can work after just one try. The idea is that it stretches your uterus giving them a bit more wiggle room to do the turn themselves. I did it with 3 year old DS, we both hung upside down off the sofa (lots of cushions on the floor to catch us) and he loved it! Still asks me to do it again now!

WIW I am jealous of your lovely tummy. Mine is all veiny and full of stretch marks this time round. Boo.

Blackkat · 30/10/2011 20:25

Sending lots of positive thoughts to mummya and irene hope Tuesday goes well for mummya and that irene you get a smooth and simple ride this time Smile

Izzy my mw told me that if the baby wasn't pointing the right way to stick a bag of frozen peas (presumably in a teatowel) at the top of the bump and play music at the fanjo end. According to her this has worked on most patients that she has seen who wanted a natural birth. HTH. I like all your names so can't really offer any help, sorry Grin.

to all only 6 more days at work to go, thank goodness...

stitchinline · 30/10/2011 21:34

Just back from weekend away and completely shattered so just going to be a quick post.
Best of luck to Irene and mummya - hope all goes well for both of you.
Congratulations to onions
Kat I'm on fragmin (same sort of thing as clexane) and I see a haematologist quite regularly. She monitors my blood to make sure that the level I am taking is correct - have a blood test about every 4 weeks and in fact they have just increased it again as I was too low.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 30/10/2011 21:39

Right, so it's upside down on sofa, peas under my boobs and Take That playing to my fanjo...? Confused This had better work!! Grin

TheMummyAbroad · 30/10/2011 22:18

Grin@ izzy's baby turning antics. Wish I could be a fly on the wall!

dooscooby · 31/10/2011 10:13

Morning ladies - hope you're all doing ok. Really busy week and weekend for me, loads of visitors etc. but I managed to sleep for 6.5 unbroken hours last night so I feel GREAT today (relatively!).

izzy - hope your fanjo liked the tones of gary barlow (or more importantly baby did!).
blackkat - wow 6 days left at work, that's amazing. 21 days left and counting here - hope the 6 fly by for you and are stress free.
LAF welcome over here - wishing you all the best for the upcoming scan.
irene hope all is ok with you - i think 2 or 3rd Nov is a nice birthday!
velvet nice to have you lingering with us - I was only thinking the other day 'we haven't heard from velvet for a while' and then I remembered you were on the other side and had had your LO - doh!
