PMSL at tunnocks mum Grin

Waving my pompoms for all the impending babies!

Happy Friday everyone-I've left jam doughnuts on the side mmmmm

dooscooby · 14/10/2011 12:09

Hi ladies
Sorry theres been no movement for the top of the list crew...here's hoping things are imminent for you all.
Forgot to say welcome to shell and stitch - fab to have you over here.
Im not at work today thank goodness so have a few errands to run and then hope to get some sleep after a crazy week. Looks like im not being kept on at work which was a bit of a shock but now i know i feel quite releieved and free that i dont feel obliged to rush back before im ready.

Been to the mw this morning-im measuring small again so im booked in for a growth scan next week. I seem to remember a few of you have had similar issues so any words of reassurance would be great-i feel like the stress of the last few weeks might have stunted the little bubs growth or something?!

Congrats to wiw and hils for the start of mat leave. harassed nice to hear from you-reckon you should get signed off again, loyalty to work doesnt seem to get you anywhere these days!

Velvetcu · 14/10/2011 12:39

doo how small are you? At 34 weeks I was 3cm small, growth scan said baby was small but in normal range. 2 weeks later still 3cm small, growth scan said baby was mid-range normal. Am now 4cm small but mw said she is not worried at all as I'm obviously just good at hiding babies. Things which I have worked out which make a difference to fundal height from experience/dr google/mw are 1) how tall you are, longer torso means more space 2) how wide your pelvis is, again more space 3) how much extra fat you have put on on your stomach (mine tends to go on hips/thighs) 4) how baby is laying - if they are on their side bump is flatter 5) time of day, I always measure bigger at afternoon appts than morning ones!

Hope that helps!

Daisybell1 · 14/10/2011 13:48

Doo, please don't worry about the growth scan. We measured small, and scan showed she would be a tiddler, and how did she come out? 8lb 2oz! I had very little fluid which accounted for the small size. Waves to all!

dooscooby · 14/10/2011 14:01

Hi velvet- thanks v much for the advice, its really helpful. Im also 3cm under (im 30 weeks and measuring 27). the mw does keep referring to me being tall (im pretty average though 5'6 or 7!). I think my bump might be wider though, so maybe not as stuck out? My fat also seems to have gone on my hips, bum and thighs too and none on my tummy so what youve said is v reassuring.

The mw said sometimes babies are small cos theyre not getting sufficient oxygen and it made me feel v bad as the last few weeks ive been waking up having rolled onto my back in the night, panicking that ive been cutting off the supply cos im not on my left side!!!

Hope youve made up with DH and are coping ok with the waiting..

dooscooby · 14/10/2011 14:04

daisy!!!! So nice to hear from you -how are you and how are the buggies?!

Ah-thanks for the reassurance, 8lb2 certainly isnt a tiddler is it-will stop worrying now.

Minnie74 · 14/10/2011 14:22

Oooh it's getting interesting in here! Hurry up babies!

wiw so Envy of your ML. I've still got 5 weeks to go-seems like ages. Enjoy the relaxation time.

tunnocks mum sounds great. Smile

irene feeling your heartburn pain!

doo i was measuring small the other day 29cm and I'm 31 but the mw said it was fine. I'm only 5'0 so it's def not a long body! Think the baby's on its side though so that might be why.
I know what you mean about waking up in the night on your back. I've got 5 pillows now -3 to prop me up for the heartburn and one on each side to try to stop me rolling on my back. (DP can't get anywhere near!) Doesn't work though and I still wake up on my back all the time and have to prod bump to make him move! Looking forward to being able to sleep however I want soon.

My cold is finally going-yay! Listened to my natal hypnotherapy cd for the first time today. Hmm not sure I'll be able to get into it. I see the point but I just was counting down till it finished and I could do something else! I need more practice I think. It did sound like if it works it would be good though.

TheMummyAbroad · 14/10/2011 16:27

Hello ladies,

I have been MIA for several threads... work, my three year old, and marital problems all got in the way of my previously furious MN action.

Thought I would pop back and see how you are are.

I am 37 weeks today - FF pregnancy tracker tells me this means I am officially full term!!!! Shock panicpanicpanicpanicpanic oooh, these look nice,

So how is everybody?

Velvetcu · 14/10/2011 17:44

Yay mummya was thinking about you today actually! Yay for termness - tis very scary!! How are you?

harassedandherbug · 14/10/2011 18:09

I'm going back to work!!! Yaaay!! Remind me how pleased I am on Monday when my boss is being an arse Wink. Gp has given me a fitness to work note with lots of conditions, boss can do them all so it's bye bye JK. After 4 weeks I've had enough tbh. My brain is slowly turning to mush, I'm eating rubbish because I'm bored, I've got no motivation and dh seems to have got me down as some kind of slave...... Can't remember the last time he cooked, when normally it's the other way round! Anyway, doc said give it a try and if I can't then he'll just sign me off again. Luckily it hasn't affected my mat pay as I get 8 weeks a year at full pay, and even though I had 10 days in Jan when I had mmc, I still have a good two weeks left. But I'll save that for later on if I need to.

mummya yay for termness!!

minniehope you're feeling better.

irene I'm really suffering with the dreaded heartburn too. Gaviscon doesn't really work, and although I know other people have been prescribed something else my gp didn't want to. I just posted on my facebook and suggestions I hadn't thought of include chewing gum, peppermint tea and Love Hearts!

doo stop panicking lovely! 3 cms really isn't that much, and you could be due a growth spurt some time soon. I was 3 cms over, and now it's evened out and I'm spot on. Babies have growth spurts when they're born, so why not in the womb too. My friend measured 3cm under and her dd is just perfect. Oh and growth scans are notoriously inaccurate!

Sorry, brian is striking

CollieandPup · 14/10/2011 19:05

I'm sooooo tired!!! I'm sorry this is a bit of a rubbish catch up!

mummya lovely to hear from you! Yay for fully cooked! I hope things feel a little more settled at your end.

harassed tbh I was glad to get back to work too, but I'm finding it shattering so make sure you don't over do it!!

I think this fundal height measuring is nothing but a worry! If you remember at my last apt I was small- although when taking my height and weight into account not by much. But it turns out she's been marking ny measurements in the wrong place and once corrected I'm large! She (for the second time) told me to 'watch my weight gain' as he was big!!! But seriously, I've barely gained weight anywhere other than my legs and thighs, none around my waist or rest of body and I've had no weight gain over the last 3-4 weeks!!! I eat well apart from the chocolate so what exactly am I supposed to do? I know I just need to ignore her but all I can think is how big he's going to be now and how I'm never going to be able to push him out!!!

I'm sorry for crap catch up, I can't remember anything else.

Btw, hb is on!!! Yay!!!

Ps has anyone else got a heache? I have had a constant one for 3 days now. Paracetamol gets rid of it for a while..until it wears off!!

Daisybell1 · 14/10/2011 19:36

Hi all, sorry for pants namecheck, am on phone.

All is good thanks! Nothing has turned out as I expected, but that's no bad thing :-) Feel fab despite having the c-section and haven't needed any pain meds for a week now. Breastfeeding didn't work out so we're mainly on formula with expressed milk when I can get enough. One major positive of this though is that OH did the entire night shift last night so I got 9hrs straight sleep, absolute bliss!

And despite my anxieties about her arriving, I now wouldn't be without her.

However it pans out, its still fab Smile

TheMummyAbroad · 14/10/2011 19:42

collie could you be dehydrated? Try getting more fluids. Headaches are one of the symptoms of pre-eclampsia, dont want to freak you out but maybe you should give your midwife a call and mention it, they will only start to worry if you also have protein in your urine and high blood pressure, they can take a look at your last few readings and see if that is a worry - are your feet and hands swollen?

re: big babies - my DS was 9 pounds but looked like he was going to be even bigger while he was still in there - I was a bit scared but my doula told me that bigger babies are born easier because they have the strength to twist and turn and wriggle out. She was right - he popped out really quick Smile It was a also a big relief that he had a bit of meat on him in those first few weeks when you start panicking about their weight gain/milk intake. Never had a cold either. There's a lot of advantages to having a big baby, so dont fret it if you do have one.

Velvet I am OK, knackered cant sleep, hip pain moan moan etc, all normal stuff. The only big thing freaking me out is how I am going to keep my freelance translation business going - no maternity leave for me - cant afford it!

Hey harrased! good luck with work xxx

CollieandPup · 14/10/2011 20:43

Thanks mummya, that's a reassuring thought that a big-un could just pop out.....I hope so!!!! I've been drinking lots and lots of water, I'm suprised I'm not drowning! I reckon I've had between 2.5 and 3ltr today. That's plenty right? I've worried about pre-eclampsia as I've had protein in my unrine from early on. But when I asked about it she didn't even bother to reply, just totally dismissed it. My bp is low(ish) and no swollen hands or feet. Ive been having on and off headaches for a couple of weeks but this is the worst.

Just had a bath and feeling marginally better. Maybe the m&s dine in dinner I'm about to tuck into will make me feel better. Cheese crusted cod, with roasted veg and potato rosti followed by raspberry and coconut macaroon (spl?) pudding ....yumm!!!

daisy it's so lovely to hear from you. Thrilled things are going so well and you're loving being a mummy!!! You sound v v happy, especially after the sleep!! Grin xx

OP posts:
ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/10/2011 21:38

sorry for absent ladies :) Hope you are all well and those of you at the top pf the list aren't getting too impatient.

collie Perhaps your headaches are from your BP being slightly low? I think headaches and dizziness can be a symptom of low BP as well as high.

Definitely don't worry about big babies, big is better IMO! DD was 9lb3 and DS 8lb 12 and apparently does make delivery easier as they are stronger. And as mummy says, you do worry less about weight loss/gain and intake of milk in the early days as they have that extra bit of meat on them to get them through any weight loss. I love a chunky baby! Would be petrified of picking up a baby any smaller than 8lb!

Things are going well here. DS is three weeks now, growing well, feeding well, sleeping well. Having much more awake time and is generally gorgeous - but I'm slightly biased perhaps Grin

TheMummyAbroad · 15/10/2011 02:13

congratulations Daisy and Coconuts Hope motherhood is treating you both well xxxx

collie good news that there is no swelling, can you ring your midwife and ask them what they advise re: headaches? I am sure they would rather you check in than keep quiet about it. And yes, thats plenty of fluid!

wombatinwaiting · 15/10/2011 12:23

Lovely to hear from you daisy and coconuts from "the other side" and v glad to hear you're both loving it.

And welcome back mummya! Hope things are ok with DH as you move into the final furlong.

And any news from velvet, tunnocks or onions? I have my popcorn and milkshake to hand to keep me going! Hope you're all doing ok.

Have you tried "4head" collie? I think it's one of those menthol type sticks you rub on - a friend who suffered badly with headaches throughout highly recommended it. Saw your one line about the HB! Great news! What swung it?

I don't know if I can help with any reassurance on the fundal height thing - I haven't been measured once (now 34 weeks), but I think it's because they scan like it's going out of fashion here and base it on the femur length and abdominal circumference . I would agree with harassed about growth spurts too.

I got an unexpected inside view of the hosp I'll be going to yesterday..... woke up feeling absolutely fine but then got some cramps right across the middle of my belly that got worse over the morning. It felt digestive rather than baby related and wombatjunior was still kicking around, but I really didn't feel great and was beginning to wonder if junior was going to make an early appearance..... Friday here is like a Sunday in the UK so nothing was open so only option was to go to A&E and after an ultrasound, pee test, blood pressure etc. (all fine) then they directed us up to the maternity ward which was so unbelievably quiet! I think I may cross my legs and keep junior in until a friday! They put the tacograph thing on that measures heartbeat and contractions for about 40 mins and of course everything was absolutely fine. All a bit embarrassing really.... but as DH said, you just don't know so better safe than sorry. Midwife there and my ob/gyn (who they called) both said to take it easy for next 3 days but I really do feel fine. They put us in one of the labour and delivery 'rooms for the tacograph so we got a real life experience of what it would be like and it was very nice - room was enormous and all sorts of mod cons. Didn't get to see the maternity / post delivery rooms but will go back for a proper tour soon. I think because last week was soooo busy at work (plus 2 nights out), junior was just giving me a warning to take it a bit easier, which of course I will be now that I'm not working. Oddly, I wasn't too worried - I think as junior was moving around as normal - and then started thinking that perhaps I need to get things a bit more ready here.... starting this week!

Waves to all and leaves double chocolate cup cakes!

cep · 16/10/2011 10:03

morning ladies, after a week a way i have no hope in catching up, so i'll just say i hope you're all ok. have i missed any announcements yet? i didn't see lots of congrats messages so i assume not.

CollieandPup · 16/10/2011 10:15

wiw glad to hear you're ok and your pains were nothing to worry about. At least jr was active to, so not to add to the worry. Your facilities sound good, although are they not short staffed on a Friday too?

Thanks for the suggestion of 4head, will go and investigate. It wasn't as bad yesterday morning but reappeared by the afternoon and was full blown again by the evening! Think will try to make apt with gp as i generally feel mw is overly laid back and doesnt reassure me besides, I wouldnt mind some gaviscon on prescription too. Surgery is a nightmare though so could be ages for an apt.

Hope everyone else is ok. No news from onions Irene or velvet ?

I've been getting very period pain style feelings for a couple of weeks. Guess that coud be a sign of my body starting to prepare itself! It's all starting to get very scary and real!!!
