Thanks for all your lovely welcomes...think I may hide in the freak out room for a few weeks and then come back and join you all once I've got past scan time!! Wishing you all well and hope to see you all again soon!

PinkFondantFancy · 05/10/2011 09:41

Oh also I really hope I haven't offended anyone by providing wo many details. I know I was very lucky to have this kind of birth, and that not everyone is lucky enough to get the type of birth that they were hoping for.

Freezingmyarseoff · 05/10/2011 09:59

collie just wanted to say that we did a tour of the two closest hospitals & it was pretty obvious go me that the closest one to us just wasn't right (although for slightly different reasons to yours). None the less when we saw the further away hosp it made complete sense to go there despite the community mudwife making out it was a big hassle for her because it was more paperwork etc. Anyway, go with your instincts (sounds like you might go with a homebirth anyway), & check out all options. I am having an ELCS so homebirth is out for me.
On my phone so can't do a proper catch up but will do later.
But CEP hope you are having a big lie in GrinGrin & a bit Envy too!
Well done izzy on the room rearranging. Do you feel a bit more ready now?
Waves to everyone else

Freezingmyarseoff · 05/10/2011 10:00

Oops, obviously I meant midwife. But sometimes I do wonder

PinkFondantFancy · 05/10/2011 10:11

collie that was what worried me too-the small chance of something serious happening. I'm 40 mins from a hospital and IIRC mamap is even further. My MW was totally unconcerned about the distance to hospital as she felt that she gets enough warning of things starting to go wrong that it doesn't end up being a crisis. I spent a lot of time researching what could go wrong (not for the feint hearted!) and then questioning her on "what if x happens, what if y" etc. I'm not sure whether I would have been as confident without an IM-I've been seeing here since 20 weeks and trusted her implicitly. mamap had community midwives-well worth PMing her to see what her experience is.

Velvetcu · 05/10/2011 10:38

ty Pink for your homebirth story. I have been thinking about it a lot since all the false labour stuff. Am I too late to organise it do you think?

CollieandPup · 05/10/2011 10:55

freezing I'm booked on to a tour of our second closest unit on Sunday. Therenis another in Manchester city but thats about a 35/40 min drive, which puts me off but I do know it has great reviews and is supposed to be all singing all dancing. I had dismissed the second closest originally as the hospital in general has a VERY bad reputation and care quality commission scores, but having read up, the mat ward has good reviews. We'll see....

pink thanks so much for your replies as I'm sure you are very busy. They are really helpful and I've forward to DH who seems to be coming around even more. Our neighbour had a (unplanned) home birth for her second so I might get DH to talk to her DH, as he was quite positive when she had him in jan. Eekk....might I actually be planning a hb??

velvet as long as miniv doesn't come too early Grin I'd say you have plenty of time. As I just mentioned my neighbour had a last minuite one with her second. Just decided on the day from what I gather....although obv not recomending such madness!!! If you want a water birth/pool that might take time to organise, but only to buy, set up and maybe test. Fwiw, also speak to your mw about drugs. She can drop off gas and air but in my area if you get the gp to prescribe it, my mw can administer pethadine. I'm not planning on using it, but would want it in as if the pain gets too much, it means I can get through another threshold of pain at home, and wouldn't need to go in.

Quick post and run.

Got a new car! What a relief! [relaxes, uncrosses legs, takes baton from behind the sofa, BRING IT ON!].

Have also arranged to get BP and urine checked at docs today as feet, hands and legs are ever increasingly puffy and have seen stars again this morning. At least I know I can get to my appointments now without having to beg and cadge for lifts from friends and villagers.

dooscooby · 05/10/2011 14:41

Hi everyone
collie - our sleep cycles seem to be in synch - i possibly had the worst nights sleep my entire preg last night (aside from night before scans!). I pulled a sickie on monday so felt like I had to struggle in today - although Ive been productive this morning I feel like I'm virtually asleep at my desk now...zzz. Your hosp tour sounds disappointing and bit scary - I'm really nervous about ours, I'm a bit scared of hosps generally and think seeing a placenta and hearing screams might tip me over the edge (did you hear any?!) I kind of find it a bit easier when I'm in need of help and desparate (which I'm guessing I will be when in labour!).

pink thanks for sharing your story, although I don't want a homebirth it's nice to hear really positive stories as I've realised how negative my thoughts about labour and birth are and I'm trying to imagine that our experience might not be overly dramatic and scary but that it could be wonderful somehow.

irene pleased you've got a car and can now get checked out - hope all is well.

velvet not long until DH is back now I guess?

Waves to everyone else, thank goodness it's a bit cooler now. Oh and I bought my first items yesterday - bibs, vests and a few other bits - exciting!

Youremindmeofthebabe · 05/10/2011 16:33

Collie, is the other hospital st mary's? Sil has just had her baby there and is totally singing their praises. I went to visit, and it seemed lovely. They did go and look at another hospital before that which they found grim, wonder if it's the same one. I am luckily not under Leeds general anymore, and also may try for a homebirth, all being well.

Is anyone else really itchy? I have really really itchy legs, particularly on an evening. Hoping it's not OC and just dry skin, although it seems to get worse when I apply moisturiser directly to it.

wombatinwaiting · 05/10/2011 18:22

Evening all. I'm wondering if I should add myself to the MIA list as I've been so poor at keeping in touch! HAve been lurking though and there's been some huuuugely helpful posts going on and also some really great ones - pink - loving your home birth / pool story -sounds like a dream.

Big welcomes to stitch and kat and do see who else you can bring over from the freakout thread - we are lovely and have lots of good treats

wombatinwaiting · 05/10/2011 18:26

Oh and did anyone see this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/childbirth/1312137-Things-you-did-in-childbirth on the childbirth forum - brilliant reading if your pelvic floors can take the laughter!

bigmacandhappymeal · 05/10/2011 19:21

Will post properly tomorrow as am on stupid phone on way back from work but just wanted to say how much I have just pmsl at that thread wiw. Thank you thank you thank you x

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 05/10/2011 20:10

wiw dd is thrilled with her new bedroom, she loves it - to be fair though it is quite a bit bigger than her old room and looks fab now it's all been decorated so she sees it as a real "promotion" Grin

yrmotb I am another itchy one, especially the legs too! Mw did blood tests for oc which came back clear and I don't think it's PUPPPs because I had that with ds and it was different (and started in the abdomen/stretchy area rather than legs). I'm wondering if it's a flare up of eczema or something? Anyway I've just been putting plain e45 cream on and it definitely hasn't got any worse so fx will clear up soon. Hope yours isn't bothering you too much!

Supposed to be going to second ante natal class tomorrow and don't know whether I can be bothered Blush. Left it too late to get on the NCT ones so it's the NHS ones, which I did when I was pg with ds and made some good friends. I was kind of hoping for the same thing this time, but the class is so huge (about 25 pg ladies, about half with partners present, compared to about 10 couples when I did them last time) that I don't think I'll get to know anyone! Is it worth giving it another go?

(and they all stared at me like Shock when I said it was my third Blush )

cep · 05/10/2011 20:28

Evening ladies, last day is complete, i am Officially a lady of (semi) leisure. i was suprised with a little baby box which was really nice as i'd only been back on that section for a few months after having been moved for the last 3 years. must have been difficult for them as it's my second baby knowing what to get, so i rcv'd some basic necessities, w/wipes, shampoo, baby bath etc. a nice hooded towel and milk cloths. a voucher and some choccies.

Had a really bad night with ds last night he was awake from 2:30 till 5-5:30 am really hoping he sleeps through tonight. He's off nursery tomorrow as he needs his injection for school next yr. Then i had my breast feeding class thing at the hosp.

collie the hosp sounds dire, do you have another hosp option?

i'm sure there's messages i meant to repond to but i just can't function properly.

Blackkat · 05/10/2011 21:07

Hello all, apologies for being awol for nearly a week, it's been madness at work, but getting a bit easier now. I'm going to do my best to catch up, hopeful Smile.

Stitch lovely to see you here Smile, Kat great news on the 12 week scan, so so pleased for you Grin and Bluecrane welcome, so pleased to hear your news. Smile

Cep congratulations on being a lady of semi-leisure!! How sweet of your colleagues to fill a baby box for you Smile

Bigmac yay for sorting Mat leave date, I finish on the 8th of November and am counting the days....

Irene so pleased that you've got the wheels sorted, must be such a relief. Have you had any reassurance on the swelling, stars yet?

Velvet your sister and mum make by blood boil, so can only imagine how cross they make you. Really hope all is ok this week and miniv hangs on until DH gets home from Japan (?)

Collie I share your hospital distaste. Our local mlu was shut in June due to staff shortages, it has now been closed permanently. There is only one hospital in the area I can choose, it delivers 7000 babies a year, and they have 1 birthing room which is midwife led. I'm not even bothering to go and see it, my Consultant appointments there when we were TTC were enough to let me know I don't want to give birth there. We have our lovely cmw risk assessing our home for home birth tomorrow. Pink your story was great and has given me great hope! Collie explore home birth as much as you can I'd say.

Big hello to Yrmotb, WIW, Lara, Minnie, Scooby (well done for buying stuff!), Izzy and everyone else I've missed.

I'm still recovering from my health -visitor appointment this week, the reason they see pregnant ladies prior to giving birth, is because "we've found it makes you more compliant after"....red rag to a bull that kind of comment...now I don't want to comply just because you're expecting me to!!

xx

Blackkat · 05/10/2011 21:36

WIW that link is hilarious Grin, I have just frightened the cat by laughing outloud at the "bag of chips" comment. Thanks for sharing Grin!!

Purpletoes · 05/10/2011 23:08

Hi everyone

Sorry I have been a bit rubbish lately. Been on holiday and lurking for a while. Just a quick catch up as on phone will try and do personals tomorrow.

I had my 22 week scan today and found out we are inseam blue! Grin
Everything good with baby do far.

wombatinwaiting · 06/10/2011 06:13

Yay purple! - great news on the scan and team blue - blue and purple go beautifully together Grin

Ooooh blackkat - Angry at health visitor comment - does she have any idea what sort of reaction that is likely to engender in anyone, let alone a hormonal, late pg woman?!!

That's lovely from work cep. Hope ds went through the night ok. What plans for your first day of LoL status? Sleeping mostly I should imagine!

Your dd is clearly cut out for climbing the corporate ladder izzy!

Glad you liked the childbirth thread ladies - I'm hoping that any drugs will send the whole birth thing and what I might say/do into a complete blur Hmm....

cep · 06/10/2011 07:42

purple congratulations, great news.

blackkat compliant?? for what i'd like to know.

WIW yes he slept through thank goodness. i'm currently sat up (in my dressing gown) with ds on the vtech baby centre, he has his jab this morning then mil is over to watch him while i go to the breast feeding thing. i'm really hoping it'll settle any questions i had from what went wrong last time.

Blackkat · 06/10/2011 12:57

Homebirth visit over and done with - only glitch in the system appears to be my iron levels which have dipped. Iron tablets here I come.

I now need to start looking into hiring a birthing pool - anyone with any recommendations here, or should I start a new thread? [nervous]

cep all goes well this pm.

to all

dooscooby · 06/10/2011 15:05

it's quiet in here today! blackkat glad that the homebirth visit went ok.
Hoping that irene is ok after the check-up yesterday?

I randomly walked passed the GP who dealt with my m/cs on the street today - haven't seen her this pg but she's now avec bump and it really made me think. I felt so grateful for being preg again as I think for some reason seeing her pg would have really upset me. Then I wondered if her journey was problematic and how difficult it might be dealing with pg and miscarrying ladies! Anyway, not sure if that makes sense - clearly the sleep depriv is getting to me.

cep · 06/10/2011 18:51

blackkat thats great that they seem to be supporting the homebirth. fx the iron tablets work quickly. Grin

doo i see what you mean, it must be really difficult, to deal with mc's everyday and not get completely stressed when pg yourself.

breastfeeding class went well, lady was really funny. What i found interesting though was most of the stuff i was told to do last time wasn't the correct thing to do. i was given a nipple shield on day 2 but apparently shouldn't use it until milk was in. was told to push breast slightly to make sure baby could breath, but apparently that alters where the nipple is and can cause the nipple to rub on the top of his mouth. Hopefully i may find things a bit easier this time.

milkyways · 06/10/2011 22:39

Hi all! Hope you're all well! Things have been pretty busy with me - first DD got ill, then she lost her voice, wheezing through the night for a few nights and doctor ended up prescribing her an inhalor and scary mask/tube type thing to administer it. After one use, she got scared of it and miraculously recovered within a day!
Then my car died (RIP :(). I'm walking everywhere and although it's very healthy, I am aggravating my SPD even more - last night was a complete nightmare in bed, it just feels like someone has kicked and punched me inbetween the legs. I'm wondering if it will get worse once I hit the final trimester next week Confused.

Congratulations "emoo*!!

I have been lurking, and want to ask all of you with the loose stools - please tell me your secret!! I want some of that loose action too! At the moment it feels like I'm relieving myself of rocks :(

collie sorry your hospital was disappointing, it does sound very grim compared to the women's hospital here. But amazing you got to see a real life placenta?! Was it really the same size as a baby? Apparantly they are...I might ask to see mine this time round!

pink your birth experience sounds wonderful! You're very lucky! I was induced with DD, and was violated with hooks and needles which meant I ended up being bed ridden throughout. It was pretty bad!! I'm hoping I will be able to handle it better this time.

purpletoes congratulations on a happy scan! Welcome to team blue!!

blackkat glad the homebirth visit went well!

Oh, I had my flu jab today aswell - I'm normally terrified of needles, but it didn't hurt at all, and so far, no immune reaction on my arm! I had a hep B jab two years ago for work, and I ended up not being able to move my arm for about 3 days, so I'm very happy today!

wombatinwaiting · 07/10/2011 08:23

Very quiet indeed! Happy Friday ladies and hope you are all looking forward to the weekend.

Great news on the homebirth visit blackkat - I'm sure those iron tablets will kick in soon.

Ouch to your spd milky - the only plus side might be that the walking may be good for your constipation - I find it helps as like you am on the rock passing side, rather than the loose side!

Interesting on the b/feeding workshop cep - ours was ace too. She didn't think nipple shields were a good idea at all at any stage as in her opinion it interferes with milk production.

Off shopping with a big list of stuff to get for junior (and me) - bit scary but has to be done - only 7 weeks to go - gulp.....

Toasted bacon and egg muffins for all!
