bigmac I?d appreciate some reassurance off someone but tbh I find that my mw is nothing but dismissive and blasé about everything I bring up. They only time she has taken me seriously is when I saw her when I wasn?t sleeping and I looked a mess and was a hormonal wreck. In all honesty I don?t see the point, beside I also don?t want to come across like a neurotic first time mum ?although I clearly am--. I have been uncomfortable with a tight bump all morning though, is this normal would you say?

So Envy of you being on the sofa online shopping.

bigmacandhappymeal · 03/10/2011 12:25

Mine was tight all weekend after I'd done too much - and was achy in the bottom half of it but no p pains b How about phoning the community MW office of the hospital? You might get another MW to speak to. You aren't being neurotic - how the hell are we supposed to know what's going on? X

cep · 03/10/2011 12:49

afternoon ladies

velvet don't blame you for crying. agree with the others about finding things to do, not too much you don't want to knacker yourself. maybe a trip to the cinema one day and lunch at your fav cafe another day. maybe a dvd day pile them up and watch one after the other with a bag of popcorn and another of chocolate.

daisy Angry at your folks and dh, you definately need to set things straight with your dp's they're there to help not just cuddle. is your dh back at work? last time i only let dh sleep in the spare room once he was working again, until then he woke when i woke. Grin i'm so mean.

collie as bigmac said maybe worth contacting your community mw office. if you're concerned you need to speak to someone.

sorry i can't remember who but someone's mil was keeping dp's money, that's absolutely outrageous, i'd either use his credit card until he realises he needs to stand up to her, or send her the bills to pay. Why is his name not on the account?

mememe blowing own whistle moment, 1 and a bit days left at work, can't wait, i did way too much yesterday vacing and cleaning carpets my back is killing me.

kat2504 · 03/10/2011 13:06

Just nipping in from the freak out room to say I have just had my first ever successful 12 week scan. All is looking good and I hope to join you on here soon!

cep · 03/10/2011 13:18

yay KAT fantastic news, congratulations.

LaraandLittleBean · 03/10/2011 15:21

Collie - I have loose stools too! I have had them for about a week. The regularity (or irregularity) is exactly the same but the, erm, consistency is very loose. I forgot to mention it to my GP last week. I echo you on the crap MWs.

BigMac - we're going through the same stretchmark journey. I am livid. I oiled so much since the beginning. My stomach is bang-on to size and now I have two and a half evil buggers.

Kat - woo hoo! That is excellent news! Hope to see you here ever so soon.

Velvet - I second Cep's suggestions. I have been uber emotional the past few days.

Can I have an NCT rant? I dread each class - can't wait for them to be over. Three more to go. I have learnt a few bits but not much. The blokes have had a tremendous time socialising. I am just too tired. Our class tomorrow is from 7-9pm and they have proposed drinks afterwards. There is no bloody way I'll have the energy to go.

Waiting for the M&Ps furniture to arrive... apparently it takes 2 hours to assemble. It's 3.2 now - that means they'll be here til late. Sods.

stitchinline · 03/10/2011 15:43

Hello all

I?m 18+5 today and still in constant amazement that I have got this far, trying to be as positive as possible so keeping on trend i think it?s time I stopped lurking and joined you lot.

bigmacandhappymeal · 03/10/2011 17:01

Hurrah kat that's great! Look forward to seeing you here soon

stitch welcome and pull up a beanbag ... Who has Owl's stapler? Quick!

cep · 03/10/2011 18:04

lara sorry you've been so tired and unwell lately, take things easy.

stitch welcome and congratulations. Grin

IreneHeron · 03/10/2011 21:03

Collie loose stools here too and lots of braxtons. I seem to be having to poo all the time, not just my regular mornings (tmi sorry). I just don't think there's room in me anymore. Baby's head is right down low now and I'm getting kicked loads in the ribs.

Stitch congratulations and welcome!

Would anyone else worry if their hands and feet suddenly swelled up? Have also had slight nausea and have seen stars a couple of times. I know they're symptoms of pre-eclampsia but they are also quite normal pg symptoms too. MW said to go to GP or nurse for blood pressure check but I rang the surgery today and they can't fit me in until Wednesday night. Seems a bit pointless seeing as it is a 3 hr round bus trip to the next village as we have no car and I have to see the MW on Friday anyway.

This lack of car is getting right on my tattie. It seems impossible to find the one we want. There's only one we are tempted to buy and there's an issue with proving the guy owns it as his name isn't on the documents. I'm feeling a bit unsettled not having a car whilst holding the baton!

Freezingmyarseoff · 03/10/2011 23:16

BigMac I would say go for it on the yoga. I do NCT but just because they had the best times for me. I'm not really a yoga person, normally, but it's really lovely to have 2 hours each week to focus on being pregnant in a really chilled happy way (no mentalling for once) but I guess it's a bit luck of the draw on classes/teachers etc.

Irene I would say please get yourself checked out, even if it is a hassle. Pre-eclampsia can be really serious so much better to go in. Could you get a taxi or a friend to drop you off or something.

Collie don't know what to say on getting advice if your community MW is so unhelpful. I mean you should get some advice but I know how it feels if you don't trust your HCP. Are you booked in to a hospital? Sorry can't remember, could you try calling the day assessment centre there or something?

Welcome Stitch
And Kat stick around too!

Sorry Lara that you are feeling crap and your NCT classes are rubbish. If it's any consolation I thought our ante-natel classes (for DD)were a bit rubbish and everyone was really quiet and had nothing to say but now 3 years on I'm best friends with 3 of the girls from the class. I couldn't have predicted that. Hope you manage to get some rest and have a chance to get some energy back. The heat can't be helping but I think it's broken now. Confused can't decide if that's good or not.

Daisy I'm also Angry at your folks. It's really hard to say something though. Could you get your lovely sheepdog MW to herd them into the kitchen and bark orders at them?

cep oohh, exciting on the last day of work for you tomorrow. I'm getting excited for you (but hope that doesn't sound stalkerish)

Velvet sorry you're feeling so sad, but it's pretty understandable.

Can I ask a question? I have got the most unattractive broken capillaries/bruises on one calf. They're gross Blush. I have old lady legs now and can't wear any skirts or dresses for fear of scaring people. I can't decide if it's because I cross my legs too much or due to the pregnancy. My calf sometimes feels almost numb in places but not really, just not quite right but not wrong either. Has anyone had this? And do you think it's worth getting a GP or MW opinion?

Was going to re-do the list but realised it'll be easier to wait until tomorrow to add one week to everyone. Brian is busy here, today was the 3rd time I've turned up to the shops without my purse Blush
Waves to everyone

dooscooby · 04/10/2011 08:37

Congrats on the scan kat and fab to see you here stitch -we've had a run of lovely babies but bot many new people heading over so it's great to have you over.

Really late for work but a quick one to say hope velvet is doing ok-you're one day closer to bring reunited with Dh. Irene hope the swelling has calmed down. bigmac good idea waiting a week to do the list-would have never thought of that myself!

BlueCrane · 04/10/2011 10:06

Morning all...might I come and join you? I had an MMC in May and now 6 weeks pregnant again! I've been trying to stay positive etc etc but today just feel v emotional about everything and keep stressing that symptoms keep coming and going and last time it all went wrong at 5-6 weeks (although we didn't find out until the 12w scan Sad ) which isn't helping me stay calm! I have my booking app in two weeks and an early scan when I'll be 8+2 so need to hang in there til then as my first target!

Velvetcu · 04/10/2011 10:30

yay stitch get in here and pull up a beanbag :) lovely to see you here.

bluecrane you are very welcome to join us :) there is a thread here called the Freakout room which you may find a little easier as it has ladies in early pg after mc rather than us heffers those of us who are a bit further along doing a different kind of mentalling but we have all been there so stay wherever you feel most comfortable. I think I remember your name from a thread but not sure which one.

Helloooo everyone. Hope you are all ok today.

I'm going to have another rant about my mother/sister situation. Sister started getting backache last week at 28 weeks. Cue big old "I feel sorry for myself" fb statuses and a "poor DSIS she is in soooo much pain, I'm going to be doing her housework/shopping/ironing/cooking dinner" from mother. DSIS had mw yesterday which led to text messages to me to explain to me what SPD is and how terrible it is blah blah blah. Hmmmmm SPD...sounds familiar.... oh yeah I remember, I've had it since 16 weeks but obviously haven't made enough of a fuss about it!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Grin that's better

bigmacandhappymeal · 04/10/2011 15:10

Afternoon all, I'm feeling much better today so yesterday off was a great idea.

collie how are you doing today? Did you decide to call the MW?

cep one more day Grin!!

Thanks for doing the list stitch :) and hello blue congratulations on your PG :)

irene get your BP checked hen - worth the hassle to check all is well. (PMSL laughing at tatties)

velvet I honestly have no words for you. Unbelieveable. xxx

freezing I would get them checked out when you go to the GP next. Sounds like varicose veins :( I'm sure your legs don't look that bad but if you don't feel comfortable - leggings/tights are the way forward. Am going to look into yoga tonight. I have got little red spider vein things on my decollete. This is upsetting as my baps/upper chest area was the only part of my body that I was happy with pre-PG!

lara sorry to hear about your NCT experience. Maybe ties in with you having a more introspective time? Maybe you're (and fair enough) not in the mood for group situations? How is your furniture? I thought of you yesterday as in Tesco they have a snuggle/bath wrap thing with a little monkey on the hood. £4ish, v cute...

I had a good NCT experience last night. 8 couples. All seem like they are normals. Teacher good and doesn't seem to be too evangelistic about natural births/BF. MrB didn't have a freak out. I didn't have a freak out. Had a giggle with the ladies there, all seem about my age. They had nice biccies. Win.

And, I have just told my boss that I am bringing my ML forward a week so last day in the office is 4th November Grin. Feel like a weight has been lifted and I can now book in coffees, cinema trips etc emotionally prepare for my birth.

Oo and I did my natal hypno CD for the first time yesterday. Ladies, I liked it.

cep · 04/10/2011 15:20

bluecrane hello hon, congratulations. Grin so pleased for you.

bigmac and freezing i know i can't wait i'm soo tired and in so much pain i did way too much on sunday. i'll try not to brag too much tomorrow but i'm not promising anything.

velvet you're a bigger person than me love i'd have said something back, probably about welcome to the club.

PinkFondantFancy · 05/10/2011 02:48

Ooh lots going on here! Congratulations to Kat stitch and bluecrane!! fab news!

I initially thought my NCT would be hopeless for social but after a few classes people loosened up and I can defo see myself being mates with some of them.

Definitely do preg yoga if you get the chance. And the natal hypnotherapy CD. I swear that those combined with the pool got me through labour.

velvet you poor thing. Pre-labour, DH away and now your DM... What a combo to deal with :(

Hope everyone is doing well-too tired to concentrate for name checks but I am following the thread!

CollieandPup · 05/10/2011 06:41

Aghh insomnia strikes again!! Thank god I'm working from home today!!

Thanks for all your reassurances. I was really uncomfortable on Monday, the tightness really didn't let up much but when I tried to time them, they really and no pattern-I don't think, it was hard at work, so nothing 'going on' I don't think and yesterday was much better. I had my ante natal class last night so mentioned the contraction like feelings and she agreed it was proberly BH. I didnt mention the other stuff as things had calmed down, but feel reassured just knowing that the tighteness under my ribs could be BH.

Speaking of my ante natal class, last night was the hospital tour!!! OMG!! It was grim! I had all but come around to going to hospital for the birth, on the assumption I'd stay at home as long as poss, and I'd hoped the tour would reassure me it would be fine. But actually, that couldn't be future from the truth! I thought it was awful! How have others found theirs? We have no special mlu (being built) so the ward is separated in two- low risk and high risk. The low risk section is converted office space, due to them taking on another hospitals maternity caseload due to closure (so likely to be busy). That bit wasnt too bad, but only had 1 pool-bare in mind this now as the case load of TWO hospitals! Only 3 other low risk private rooms, 2 tiny and non with ensuit, including the pool room, which also as no bed. The high risk labour rooms were ok, very hospital like as you'd imagine. BUT, the maternity ward was AWFUL!! 4 private rooms, all reserved for poorly mums or mums with babies on SCUBA (rightly so) and all were full. The rest were bays/wards that hadn't seen a facelift since before I was born. They had between 4&6 beds and were tiny! I swear if you spat you'd hit the adjacent bed! And they looked dirty! so so grim. It seems likely that if you want to bf you'll be kept in for several hours for support, so it's almost certain you'll end up in there, and if it's a night you'll be alone as DH gets sent home. Did I say how grim it was???! On asking what you did with baby if you needed a wee/shower, the answer was, just leave it (baby) by your bed. Apparently all babies are tagged, so if they are stolen an alarm goes off....

So, after that ordeal I'm back to considering a home birth, which essentially is always what I've preferred, I've just been a bit chicken. DH is less opposed, but still not keen, and wants us to look around our next nearest hospital as they do have an mlu. pink or any other mummies who have had a hb, you decided on a hb in the end, but were very unsure in the run up...what made you decided? Would you mind sharing your experience? Right now I'm thinking home birth with pool .... Where do I get a pool as cheap as posible???

Oh, and we got to see a real life placenta.....gross and utterly fascinating all at the same time!!!

bigmac glad your ante natal class was ok! Lara sorry yours are not as good as initially expected. Its interesting reading that others had written off previous ones, but then they turned out to be worthwhile socially after all.

bigmac yay for moving mat leave forward, good decision. What will that make you? cep happy last day to you!!! Envy!! only 2 1/2 more weeks for me!!! oh, do I have a good nob head boss story for you too.... But I've waffled enough for now and my arm is hurting on iPad so will save it for later!!

stitch whoop for good scan, and for joining list!!! Lovely to see more newbies! Although velvet how are we doing on recruiting some 30something-ers to stick above us??? Smile

Blue congratulations on your bfp! Metalling is now mandatory! I remember you from various buses, and then (sadly) the ttc after mc thread when you first joined, but it's been a long-time since I've been back on. You are more than welcome here, it's always nice to have newbies, but I can also highly recommend the freak out room in conception which is full of women in early pg after mc, and is what got me through my early weeks!!! If you go over though, please pop in and let us know how you are going on!

Ok, think I'm caught up

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 05/10/2011 08:03

Yay! for kat stitch and bluecrane - welcome!!!

velvet Angry on your behalf. Hope you're doing ok with dh away

collie your hospital tour sounds disappointing. Very surprised to hear the baby-stealing policy; at our hospital we have to take them with us (pushed in their wheelie-cots) absolutely everywhere, bath, toilet, shower, the lot. In fact when I had ds I nipped out for a wee during visiting hours leaving ds with my dad (literally sat by my bed holding him so as safe as safe could be) and still got into trouble from the mws for not taking him with me!!!

Hectic tiring weekend here, but the spare room/dumping ground has finally been cleared out, and transformed by a medley of pink and purple paint, and dd has moved in. Dd's old bedroom has been painted yellow with Pooh bear curtains, border etc and I now appear to have a nursery!!! This is scary stuff!!!

PinkFondantFancy · 05/10/2011 08:27

collie I was the same as you-felt too chicken to have a HB but I did quite a lot of research and felt comfortable with the risks. The book 'homebirth: a practical guide' is brilliant because it talks about what can go wrong as well as why it's a good thing. There's also a great website www.homebirth.org.uk

I had an independent midwife who provided the pool etc so sorry I can't help with that bit.

PinkFondantFancy · 05/10/2011 08:56

Oh I'd written a post somewhere else about what my experience was like, I'll dig it out and link it. I think it might have been the first time homebirthers support group over on the childbirth board. I'm on phone at mo so hard to search or link-give me a shout if you cant find it

PinkFondantFancy · 05/10/2011 08:57

Oh here it is, I'd saved a draft on my phone:

DH and I had originally planned a hospital birth, and we'd already hired an independent midwife as I wanted the consistency of support all the way through the pregnancy and afterwards. But after we'd been to the NCT classes and did more research we started to think that given you have to do most of your labouring at home anyway, if things are going well why not stay put? I'd originally felt that the hospital would be a safer place to give birth but the research suggests that a homebirth is as safe for a low risk pregnancy and also has extra benefits.

The midwife was more than happy to support us in a homebirth so she dropped off the birthing pool and a huge box of other stuff a few weeks ago.

The birth itself was completely amazing. I'd been preparing by listening to a natal hypnotherapy cd a few times a week and going to pregnancy yoga. At 4am on Friday morning my waters broke in bed. By 10am I was having mild contractions, and by 1pm ish they were getting strong enough that I had to stop what I was doing to concentrate on breathing through them. The midwife came at 6ish and I was 6cm dilated. At about 9ish I got into the pool and started pushing what seemed like shortly after. DD was born all at once at 22:41 and was so relaxed that slthough she was breathing she didn't cry for ages. Once the cord stopped pulsating, DH cut the cord and I went upstairs to deliver the placenta on the loo. The midwives then tucked the three of us up in bed, showed me how to feed DD, then cleaned up and let themselves out. It was incredible.

I read Home Birth: a practical guide when trying to decide whether to go for it and found it really helpful. The main thing that convinced me was that I was previously happy to go to hospital anyway, so opting for a homebirth just gave me more options. If at any stage you don't feel comfortable staying at home, you can transfer in.

I can't recommend a water birth enough, it was fantastic and made all the difference. I'm not sure I could have gone without pain relief without it.

PinkFondantFancy · 05/10/2011 08:58

Hope that helps!

CollieandPup · 05/10/2011 09:17

Thanks pink its very helpful. Will share will DH too. I've seen the website you've suggested before and read all of it, and printed it and made DH read it before we attended our ante natal classes. With that, and then the classes, he's gone from sheer horror at the idea to being willing to consider it...,but then he's asked me too look at another hospital so I remain unconvinced he's ok with and I don't want to do something he's not comfortable with. TBH I think I'm pretty much sold as I've read loads on it too....although the book sounds interesting! I think it's just that very small chance that something could go wrong, that they can't for see. Rare I know, but they happen. Even though we are rural we are still only 15-20 min car drive from the hospital so not far really. But maybe too far in an emergency.

The idea of a water birth used to make be want to boak, but I'm much more open minded about that too now. I think I'd like one, at least get in for in relief, and see how I feel about delivering in it at the time.

I just don't know how to convince DH, and to to that little niggling worry of my own.

Do you think your experience would have been equally as positive if you didn't have an independent mw?

Izz I was v [shocked] at this response too. And it being snatched is not the only thing to worry about really!!!
