Morning all

milky have you got some lactulose from the GP? Rubbish about your car...

cep hurrah for ML and really glad that bf workshop seemed helpful

collie hmmmm re your hospital visit. How was the second visit? We're not allowed to visit ours - online tours only so hopefully it will be placenta free :)

irene how are you doing? Have you had your BP appt? Hope all is well.

I was a bit shocked at NCT on Monday when we were told that our hospitals were having real resource issues (this bit wasn't the surprise) but that it was likely that over half our group would not be able to give birth in the place of their choosing. Shock

A pig of a week for me. As some may have seen on FB I expressed some dissatisfaction Blush with my workplace yesterday. My boss really, really takes the biscuit and yesterday pushed me too far which is generally quite hard to do as I'm relatively laid back. The story is disappointingly actually a bit dull so I won't bore you with details but up til now I have been breaking my back to get things done here but they've blown it now and I am very glad that I have moved ML forward (well, taken a weeks annual leave), 4th Nov being last day at 37 weeks.

I loved the fringe comment on that birthing link. And the bag of chips one which made me weep tears of joy.

Good luck with shopping wombat

Parentcraft day tomorrow. It sounds so twee, like they should make us do macrame or similar :)

to anyone i've missed and trundles off with muffin. You've cooked that bacon really well wombat

bigmacandhappymeal · 07/10/2011 09:59

ps anyone heard from dachs?

cep · 07/10/2011 10:05

morning ladies.

wiw it always gets me that you get different advice from people in the same field. (although acknowledge that you are abroad which can explain part of that Grin )

bigmac worth going if you have one near you, is nice to hear other womens experiences even if people have managed to bf before.

i'm away for the next week with ds, so will be unable to post anything after tonight. So hope everyone has a fab week.

bigmacandhappymeal · 07/10/2011 13:45

Just had a call from the doctor - my blood results finally came through from the beginning of September Angry and am a touch anaemic so onto the horrid iron tablets for me. Explains why I was feeling so bushed all the time.

Any tips on how to avoid side effects ladies?

dooscooby · 07/10/2011 17:29

Compulsory Weetabix, 2 pieces of fruit a day and veggie soup seem to work for me bigmac ( although admittedly that's without the iron tabs!). Do they let you try and up your iron levels thro food? Lots of spinach and leafy greens and cereals?
I've also been lurking for dachs but haven't seen her for a good few weeks. Don't want to stalk her as I'm assuming she might understandably want some distance, but I can't think of anyone I'd rather hear happy news from in the near future.

enjoy the break and your first full week of mat leave cep.

dooscooby · 07/10/2011 17:31

Oh-meant to ask you all if you knew anything about vit k injections given to baby at birth? It came up at our antenatal class but it's the first time I've heard of it so I felt a bit clueless!

bigmacandhappymeal · 07/10/2011 18:45

Have a great break cep

Apparently doo food will maintain iron levels but won't raise them when they are too low. Rather annoying. Esp as I've just spent 8quid on spatone. Hmm. Vit K. I know this. It's about boosting babies' abilities to clot blood i think. Recommended according to my 'what to expect' book I've just looked at. They give it at birth and you can consent or not as I understand it.

I agree, if you're there dachs we're thinking of you.

DiffedAgainDachs · 07/10/2011 19:51

A little birdie told me you were asking after me so I popped back to relay the most recent news from the Dachskennel.

After the ectopic twin scare it all looked fine, then last weekend had 3 days of red bleeding which totally freaked me out. Had emergency scan and baby looked fine so have booked 12 week scan for 20th October. Am 10+4 today. The bean was nearly 4cm long on Tuesday. Wriggly and nice heartbeat. It has to be one of the most photographed 10 week foetuses out there - I've now had about 10 scans!

Had first midwife appointment this afternoon, crashed car on the way. Am ok but my nice shiny car now has a dent in it.

Will carry on lurking if that's ok, 'cos I'm finding all this pregnancy stuff really hard to deal with at the moment - I blame hormones! :)

Ireneiswaiting · 07/10/2011 20:31

Dachs lovely to hear from you. I totally don't blame you for not posting for a bit. Glad your bean has a good heartbeat and I hope the next scan goes well. I'll be thinking of you.

I went to my MW appt today. Head is down but not fully, back is facing to my left hand side. Hopefully I'll be able to go to the brand new, opened this month or last month birthing unit. Will fight my case with the consultant on Monday. Won't be able to have a cs or epidural there so they might not let me due to my previous cs. No more MW appts now until 5 days after due date for a sweep. It is all getting a bit too real!

PinkFondantFancy · 07/10/2011 21:55

On the constipation stuff, I found things kept moving ok if I had a litre of apple juice a day, anything less and it all ground to a halt....

Also, on birthing pools, again mamap is your lady with the knowhow.

bigmacandhappymeal · 07/10/2011 22:51

dachs so lovely to hear from you and I'm sorry you've had that scare. So pleased all is well but can appreciate why the world of pregnancy is nothing but a headf&ck. I hope the next couple of weeks Until the 12 week scan go at the speed of light and without any dramas x

Also there is clearly some bad car mojo at the moment - is that 4 now who have crashed/car died/been crashed into?

dooscooby · 07/10/2011 23:04

Lovely of you to update us dachs - great news that all looks ok but having a scare last weekend must have been traumatic and exactly what you didn't need after everything else. Sorry if you felt obliged to delurk and post - wouldn't want to add anymore stress to things so lurk as long as you want -we'll be thinking about you as the days and weeks pass by.

Velvetcu · 07/10/2011 23:12

dachs it really is good to hear from you. Sorry about the scare but glad you have a healthy wriggling pup Smile

wombatinwaiting · 08/10/2011 13:58

Indeed very nice to hear from you dachs and do please keep lurking. Fingers, toes and legs (to an extent) crossed that the rest of this pg is highly uneventful for you. Please do continue lurking and as the others have said, please don't feel obliged to post x

You're right bigmac - many car incidents.... dare we blame the hormones?! Hope the iron tabs do the trick and the dreaded side effects are kept at bay with all the advice. My doc once said that keeping up fluids is key as the more fibre you take on, the more things can get "stuck like cement" if you don't have the liquid intake to keep apace with the increase in fibre.

Eeeek irene -really not long to go for you..... good luck with getting in to your lovely sounding birth centre.

When is DH back velvet and have you had any more contraction type things? Hope you're hanging in there ok.

Big shop in Mothercare yesterday as they had 20 to 50% off a lot of stuff - found buying cute clothes and stuff for junior far more satisfying than ultra dull stuff like maternity and nipple pads.... got the loveliest vest thing in black with a white sheep on for DH's appreciation - I know you don't normally see black on a baby, but DH is a Kiwi!

Ireneiswaiting · 09/10/2011 20:19

Wombat well tell your DH congrats on the Rugby score today. Is he an All Blacks fan?

It is awfully quiet here this weekend. Hope everyone is enjoying themselves.

milkyways · 09/10/2011 21:11

Yay got a new car! Picking it up on Tuesday!

bigmac no haven't got lactulose syrup, but am going to try the fruit juice thing and see if that helps. Also, on the iron tablet thing - vitamin C helps absorb iron into the body quicker, so increase your orange juice intake or take some Vit C supplements - it will also keep your immune system in order.

Oh and how did your parentcraft go? We have ours on the 22nd from 9am-1pm. I'll only be nearly 29 weeks - I think it's way too early, but it was the only time available.

Lovely news dachs, thinking of you.

irene good luck with getting into the new birthing centre!

I've entered my final trimester today Grin. 3 more months to go!

bigmacandhappymeal · 10/10/2011 09:05

Morning all

Blimey it's been quiet on here this weekend.

milky parentcraft was really good. It was intense and tiring because I was trying to get everything into my head but I found it really helpful. Really no nonsense fact giving combined with tips etc that I found reassuring. Useful info on pain relief and particularly good descriptions (or so it seemed) of what contractions will (maybe) feel like and when to get yourself to the hospital. I had no idea. 29 weeks might be a bit early, but I don't think it will matter that much - it's more the fact that there is still a way to go at that point so perhaps do what I did and write everything down in case brian steps in and makes you forget it all! :) On the flip side, if you are doing NCT a bit later as well, you'll be relieved that your life isn't completely taken over by antenatal classes - we had parentcraft saturday and we now have 2 NCT classes this week and 3, yes 3, next week!

wiw thanks for fluid advice - good call

For those of you not on the FB page, I think collie has had a very eventful weekend (no baby has appeared, just to reassure everyone!).

Reassurance seeking... I've been sleeping mainly on my left now that I'm bigger but what I've noticed is that when I move to go onto my right side I get a fairly significant pain - feels like a mixture of period crampy and muscular pain - down the right side of my bump. It's strong enough for me to feel worried about moving until it passes. Erm, any thoughts?

irene hope the consultant appointment goes well today and you get the outcome you are after...

Right, on with lurking on MN work. Have a good day all... 19.75 working days left until ML!

PinkFondantFancy · 10/10/2011 10:41

Hello everyone! Who was talking about Steve the stetchmark? I had none when pregnant (MW even commented on how I'd got away with it) and bloody Steve has come to visit since!!! How weird is that?! Anyway not bothered really, seems unlikely I'll be popping a bikini on any time soon!

I'm off to go and stalk collie now :)

PinkFondantFancy · 10/10/2011 10:42

Oh velcet how's it going? Is DH back now?

bigmacandhappymeal · 10/10/2011 10:51

Hey pink, Steve is my friend so hands off!

dooscooby · 10/10/2011 11:09

Morning all.

I'm not on fb but hoping all is ok with collie - I thought she was quiet this w-e.
Thinking about it - haven't heard from my DD twin harassed for a while either - hope you're ok lady and just busy.

Feel like crap today - terrible nights sleep, feels like an eternity until I go on mat leave and everything has started to feel a bit unbelievable again - like might we actually get a little live baby sometime around christmas, dare I believe that?! I think the dark nights drawing in and the temp dropping reminds me of being pg last time and of course that didn't end well over Christmas - I need to focus on writing new happy memories this year and stop wibbling!

Waves to all - I'm starving already, must go and find something to put me on for an hour until lunch!

wombatinwaiting · 10/10/2011 11:31

DH is an All Blacks fan irene but not the massive die-hard type. I will be supporting them since England's miserable performance on Saturday...

V curious to know what has happened with collie - I am on fb but haven't hooked up with you lovely ladies yet- will get onto it!

Bugger re: Steve pink - someone once explained it as seeing a balloon blown up, you don't see anything until it deflates and looks a bit wrinkly, which makes sense.

Sorry to hear you're wibbling a bit doo - do dare believe it and if you're struggling, I find the one day at a time strategy works well.

Can you describe what they said about contractions bigmac? Sounds interesting.....

Happy third trimester milky! Can you persuade anyone on the freak-out room over here? - we will leave lots of goodies!

First antenatal class tonight - quite pleased it's finally here as we only have just over 6 weeks to go - gulp!

Velvetcu · 10/10/2011 11:57

Hi pink DH is back tonight. Was up last night having contractions which have stopped again!! Maybe because I'm stressing about him not being home yet? Anyway, minivs head is now wedged really far down and my pelvis feels like it's splitting in half Sad I hope she's planning to make an appearance soon because I can't consider being in this much pain for potentially another 4 weeks!

Sorry for whinging!! Am on my phone so can't scroll back - am on fb but have no idea what you're talking about re: collie! Has Brian really taken over that much?? Blush

CollieandPup · 10/10/2011 12:19

Helloooooo everyone!!

Sorry I have been so quiet, its just been a very busy weekend. Had SIL, partner and 2 dn visiting Saturday and MIL, partner and her mum visiting Sunday! So, all in all shattering! Just to reassure everyone, nothing as exciting as Colliepup even threatening to make an appearance has happened, but last night was certainly eventful! After my grim tour of my local hospital last week, DH and I went to our next nearest hospital which supposedly has a mlc unit??.. this consistent of 1 birth pool and 1 low risk room ? with a mat/bed thing rather than a bed. Everything else was then high risk. So I?m not sure how they can clam to have a mlc unit Hmm. Midwife running the tour was awful. Truly. I swear Jo blogs off the street could have done it better. Came across like she didn?t have a clue, didn?t answer any questions properly and was just generally had really poor communication skills. I wouldn?t have had confidence in her delivering my baby, and I am certain if she was I wouldn?t have had a clue what was going on. But that?s only the beginning (you should no by now I like to waffle and post mammoth posts!!). Resisting the urge to make a sharp exit home, we duly followed the group into the lift up to the post labour ward (forgot its actual name)?..and the lift breaks down with us all stuck in it!!! 19 people, 10 heavily pregnant, all crammed in. Intercom in the lift doesn?t work properly, so the partner of one of the women rings the labour ward (midwife has no mode of communication), who think its hilarious and laugh at him down the phone. The whole scenario was a shambles. Security eventually turned up without a clue what to do. Tried a few things and failed and rather than called the fire brigade?.which is what they told us they had done?.. they didn?t and continued to faff around trying to open doors above us - like 10 pregnant women could climb out of a hatch onto the roof and out of the doors or something. [Hmm] It was only when they admitted that they hadn?t called the fire brigade ? and still had not intention of calling them (after 35 mins) that someone from in the lift called them anyway. They thankfully arrived within 5 mins and we were out within another 10?no thanks to the staff at the hospital!!! Bloody midwife in the lift was useless, had no initiative or control, and there was clearly no protocol in place that anyone had to follow ? which was amazing as apparently the lift had already broken down twice before. Thankfully I?m ok in small spaces but the heat and lack of air was suffocating and there were 3 women in real distress, just crying. One was 38weeks and had had contracts all night the night before?..it was awful!

BUT, on the positive side, DH left thinking a home birth might not be such a bad idea Grin (all in my master plan!!). He?s coming to my mw apt on weds to talk to the mw about it together. And I have to say, it feels right. yrmotb the other hospital was St Mary?s but we?ve agreed its to far ? it?s a good 35mins minimum. It?s a shame as it has great reviews.

izzy did you go back to your ante natal class?

I hope cep is enjoying her time away with ds

blackkat did you figure out where to get a birth pool. I am watching one on ebay. Might drop mammap a line.

purple yay for good scan and for team blue!!!

Milky boo for car dying but YAY for new one?I can?t believe you?ve picked and bought a new one in a matter of days! Well done?.i take forever to make such decisions!

Dachs thanks for delurking and letting us know how you are going. The scare sounds horribly frightening but I?m thrilled to hear all is ok so far. Understandable that you would want to try to keep a distance from mn at the moment, but we are always here. I have been thinking of you over the past week weeks as I know it was the twins dd, I hope you managed to mark it in a way you would have wanted and that you are ?ok?. xx

How is Irene doing with that baton??

wiw big shop sounds like fun! Definitely more fund than buying maternity pads and over sized knickers!! Good luck for you class tonight!

Velvet glad to hear dh is back tonight. And that miniv has stayed put so far. With all the contractions you have been having it sounds plausible that she will make an appearance soon ? I hope so.

Right, better get back to work!

wombatinwaiting · 10/10/2011 12:53

Oh my goodness collie!!! What an experience! Well done for staying calm but what a bunch of muppets the hospital staff are. What is most impressive is the fact that you planned all that just to get your DH to agree to homebirth Grin. Glad you are ok though and fingers crossed with your mw appt.

Ouch velvet re your pelvis pain.... so glad to hear that DH is back tonight and just tell miniv to hold on for a wee bit longer x
