Labour must be close because not only am I absolutely starving, exhausted but unable to sleep let alone well!
But I swear if DP's elbow touches my arm one more time I will throttle him!
I cannot stand anyone near me and nearly everything is driving me mad with misery.
I am also highly emotional.

Come moan with me, please bring warm donuts Grin

Still no joy here - 14 days overdue today. Got doc app for them to book me in for induction at the hospital in the next few days but trying to put it off for just a couple more in case she can come naturally.

Been walking around all day here but just got hot and swollen legs for my pains. Getting the odd cramp, but nothing new really.

However the sweep the other day was a little more positive - although she couldn't do the actual sweep she did manage to touch the cervix briefly and said it was soft Grin so, even though we aren't sure if I'm dilated etc it looks as though things are slowly starting. Was v. painful though as I specifically asked for the MW with the longest fingers, but she didn't use ANY lube Shock which smarted a bit but didn't feel I could complain seeing as a whole baby is going to be bursting through sometime soon Confused.

Good luck everyone and Jimmy, so sorry to hear your birth story was so terrible - I did wonder as you were in pain for so many days before hand and it did sound as though you should have had more care even then.

Hopefully next time I post on here it will be with my DD in my arms :)

Had to drop in - apparently the correct induction method is to make a list of everything you still have to do before your induction/elcs date!

Made a list Sunday eve, went to bed, woke Monday morning around 4.30, contractions started at 5.30 and went from 6 mins to 4mins apart within the hour. Labour ward said come in, by 9.30 I was at 3cm. They didn't do cfm, just listened in occasionally, consultant popped in to see me a few times as I was listed for the next day (this morning) and make sure I was ok, said he was happy for me to call it quits at any point and go to the section. Was able to keep mobile (as much as I wanted/was able!) and when they checked again 4 hours later I was at 4cm. They broke my waters for me and I suddenly went to 7cm within an hour. That was around 3.30 - after that I'm a little hazy (for some reason...) but DD2, Hebe Elizabeth, was born at 5.15pm on 1st August weighing in at 8lb 9oz Grin Did the whole lot on nothing but gas and air - was going to get an epidural but the anaesthetist kept getting called away!

I tore and have had some stitching, but am nowhere near as sore as I was post-cs, and the elation I have felt in the last 24 hours make every negative feeling from the last few weeks vanish completely. To everyone on MN who has listened to me moan and whinge and given some very much needed support: THANK YOU: and I'll stop now, because my little girl's here safe and sound and gorgeous.

To those still waiting: I know you probably don't like me right now - I didn't like the ones who dropped before I did either. But it is all totally worth it. Promise.

(Incidentally, having now had a CS and VB - if I EVER let DH near me again and we decide to try for DC3, it'll be an ELCS...Wink)

So glad to hear it Trina! Congratulations and I'm happy you can now relax with your lovley baby :)

News here too - plug is out! It's my 15th day overdue so it was about bloody time but had to be aided by my XP as the midwives fingers were too short! We did it DIY as after the 4th attempt at a sweep by MW's who couldn't reach the cervix (one just about glanced it with a finger and said it was soft a couple of days ago) we just wanted to know if it was actually open which it is! So i'm sitting here about 2 or 3 cm dilated and with my TENS on while my doula and XP get some sleep (I'm far to excited at the moment so staying up for a bit).

So hopefully my little DD will be with us before the end of tomorrow! Can't quite believe it and sorry if this is a bit rambly! Grin

YAY! Crossing my fingers for you :)

Oh Orbinator I really hope things are moving for you now! And congrats Trina on such a great outcome.

Well I finally have my baby! After all the stress on Monday I started getting regular contractions at 2am yesterday. Unfortunately they still wouldn't let me have a homebirth and insisted I went in for IV antibiotics. I tried to argue this but the midwife told me I'd need to speak to the dr when I got there. I gave in to the inevitable as was already too knackered to start a fight when I arrived. Luckily I didn't have CFM so was able to remain fairly active throughout which definitely helped. Managed on G&A but did have a shot of pethidine to have a bit of a break - slowed things down a bit and they had to break my waters (despite only being there because they'd apparently already broken!) and things really ramped up from there. Made lots and lots of noise - especially as it felt like my hips were being ripped apart and that she was coming out of the wrong hole but got there with lots of encouragement from the midwives and DP. Can now say I know what a natural birth feels like and it bloody hurts!! Me and Sorrel Lyla are both doing fine - we were discharged at midday today after she arrived at 17.22 yesterday so not too long in hospital really. Oh and she weighed in at a healthy 6lb15! So happy not to be pregnant anymore and finally cuddling my little one.

Lots of hugs to those of you still waiting and sorry if I jumped the queue a bit!

Hope baby orbinator has arrived safe and well!??

Orbinator · 07/08/2011 20:03

Hello Everybody!
I'm home at last! Ophelia Rosemary was born on 4th August at 4:06pm after a nearly 3 day labour. Here's my birth story if anyone wants to read it (mebbe not for feint hearted or those with very unreliable MW's!):

Was a bit of a scary birth tbh - not the calm serene home pool birth I had planned that's for sure! Basically there were no Midwives covering my home town when I went into labour, so I ended up with 3(!) from Wxxx. One of which was training, the other had never done a home birth and the third due to go off shift at midnight with no one qualified to cover her. Basically they sat in my kitchen eating cake, drinking all my coffee and talking about Madelaine McCann and other great dinner party convos when I just wanted calm and quiet. Sam was told to go up and have a sleep while I rested (they had told me unless I dilated further I'd have to go to hospital and so I was in bed trying not to panic although I obv couldn't sleep or anything). Major panic by MW's over the fact I still wasn't dilating past 4cm and suddenly they told me I had to go to Mxxx hospital and an ambulance had been called. Obv it turns up in 2 mins as came from hospital at top of road. So was rushed into ambulance without any time to get essentials and ferried all the way to Mxxx. Turns out no one had told Sam what was going on and they left him at the house! He only knew because I flew past him trying to grab toiletry essentials to put in hospital bag and said the ambulance was waiting to take me to Mxxx! He ended up having to pay for a taxi and it was lucky I had said Mxxx as Axxx is obv the closer hospital and the one we had been expecting to go to...Can you imagine leaving the dad behind! Not one of the 3 thought to tell him!?! Basically it was a bad catalogue of errors. In the ambulance - because I was flat on my back in the gurney - Ophelia decided to turn around the wrong way, I couldn't dilate any more because I was stressed and anxious. Got to hospital at 1:30am in pain from regular contractions so couldn't eat/sleep (which I hadn't done the night before either). Ended up left at hospital with the unqualified MW who wasn't meant to be actively doing anything but ended up having to do my BP's and foetal monitoring (which she had never done before and it was very obvious - she made me quite angry by her stupidity - couldn't get gel onto doppler despite us all telling her to treat the gel bottle like ketchup and give it a whack etc, no less than 5 times!). Sister on duty broke my waters - loads of water apparently and it felt such a relief! I lasted on gas and air until 11am when they gave me an epidural (I was so woozy and tired I became worried I couldn't push from tiredness and lack of food) and at 3:30pm decided that as I still hadn't dilated past 4/5cm it would be better to do a C-section. I agreed as was shattered and frankly just wanted to see my baby out safely.

In operating theatre (first operation I've ever had!) and it soon became apparent I could still feel the catheter tube - right up inside me. Every time I was jolted about it was agony and I was asking repeatedly for them to take it out but they couldn't. I was injected about 5 times with pain relief and had gas and air to calm me as the pain was making me thrash about a bit. They told me afterwards I was critical because I lost so much blood - they don't get that very often which scared them. Effing hurt like buggery, I can tell thee! So now I'm recovering and getting used to walking while my tummy hangs over the scar/stitches which hurts a bit and feel faint, presumably while my body re-generates all the lost blood.

Anyone else any advice on c-section mobility etc? Still quite sore and bump was big so overhanging a lot for now - am breastfeeding so should help!
x

TrinaLuciusMalfoy · 07/08/2011 20:40

Wow, congrats! Also, I'd get a complaint in about the midwifery bit, that could have ended very differently...

Post cs mobility: plenty of paracetomol, check with your mw if you can take ibuprofen as well (can't remember offhand), and if you can, layer it, so take p'mol at 1, 5 and 9 and ibu at 3, 7 and 11 for example - that way there's never a point where you're unmedicated. Make sure you try and move around when you can, even if only a little at a time, but don't overdo it. It takes time but it does get easier. Get DP to help as much as possible. If you're not already, take iron supplements every day or so - that can help with the light headedness, particularly if you lost a lot of blood. Keep the scar clean and dry and stick to wearing loose clothing for now - huge big knickers will be more comfy too, as less likely to rub :)

Lovely name - what did she weigh?

JimmyChoo17 · 07/08/2011 20:54

Hi

I was put on diclofenic which is a prescribed anti inflammatory which can help but was told if I wanted a lighter drug Nurofen with my paracetemol is fine. Seriously rest as much as possible I wish I had more in my first week but was so preoccupied with my epidural after issues I forgot about c section!!! Am certainly aware of it now. I didn't get up or move about like I should have.did you get the fit for the future leaflet? That's worth reading.

Stupidly I didn't expect the bleeding etc as I ended up with a c section... Daft as it's all got to come out still!

Like trims said...big knickers and light loose clothing are best. Healing quicker with it all hanging out. No housework and get someone to do your chores and cooking if u can!

Congrats again! Xx
