Stretch marks: did you get them and from what week did you notice?

As the subject says, would like to know how many people out there got stretch marks and from what week did they first appear?

I'm 34 weeks and midwife said if I was going to get them, I would have had them by now... but both my mother and sister got them and also I had some stretch marks on my hip when I went through a teenage growth spurt - therefore I'm expecting a few.

So curious to hear what others have experienced.

I thought I would be lucky and avoid them, but in week 38 they made they're unwelcome appearance, and got pretty bad quite quickly. I'm currently 40 weeks now, and they seem to be getting a lot worse each day!

JBrd · 15/05/2011 19:43

Yep, got them - and guess what, they started appearing at about 35-36 weeks. Some people even only get them after having given birth!

dribbleface · 15/05/2011 19:44

I was sure i didn't have any, noticed only noticed on the tops of my bum cheeks/hips after he was born!

Em3978 · 15/05/2011 19:45

I got them at 40 weeks :( and under my bump so i couldn't see til i looked in the mirror!!!

browneyesblue · 15/05/2011 19:49

I didn't get any, but I think it was just luck - I didn't use any oils or creams.

Pretty sure that I won't be so lucky next time round though...

RitaMorgan · 15/05/2011 19:52

I got them at 40 bloody weeks too! I'd been smug all through the pregnancy, but noticed them on my due date Angry

They were in a circle all round my belly button.

Queenofthehill · 15/05/2011 20:17

I got mine at about 31 weeks. Considering they appeared so early, I'm quite grateful they're not worse now at 39+3 (vertical thin faint purple lines under bump)... Still, would've preferred to escape them completely, obviously.

maxpower · 15/05/2011 20:19

didn't get any in first pg but did in second - arrived quite late (prob after 34 weeks)

breatheslowly · 15/05/2011 20:29

I was pretty smug at 36 weeks as I didn't have any and I have stretch marks elsewhere, so I really thought I would get them. By 40 weeks I had concentric circles around my belly button.

I would be a bit Hmm about your midwife as I think it is quite common to get them late. Does she seem knowledgable about the things that actually matter?

annapolly · 15/05/2011 20:31

Yes, I noticed them at 34 weeks, baby born at 33.

As my MW said, there are no wrinkles on a blown up balloon, it is only when it deflates.

Jojay · 15/05/2011 20:33

With DS1 I got them at about 38 wks - only tiny and I can't see where they were now, but they were there for a bit, on boobs and hips.

DS2 - nothing

Now 28 wks pg with twins - and enormous! None that I can see yet but I'd be amazed if I escape unscathed!

Lynzilove · 15/05/2011 20:44

i have (or my dp has) just notice a small collecion of stretchmarks on my lower belly. i cant see them unless in the mirror. they're really weid, on little patch at the moment!! im 31 1/2 weeks.

missmyoldname · 15/05/2011 20:45

About 30 weeks Sad

meala · 15/05/2011 20:47

37 weeks for me :(

dcb · 15/05/2011 20:47

Nothing with first 2 dc. Got them this time round at about 34/40, around umbilicus and getting bigger (now 38/40). Really hurt at the end of each day. Just hope they'll go afterwards.

ManicAnnie · 15/05/2011 20:50

First DC nothing - then went overdue and got them in week 41 grrrr
2nd DC - didn't get any extra ones

TransatlanticCityGirl · 15/05/2011 20:54

breatheslowly - think you've nailed it re: my midwife. Extremely nice person, has all the time in the world for me... but her knowledge is questionable sometimes. E.g. when I was 10 or 11 weeks I asked if it was safe to get the flu jab, and she said, 'um, not sure.... let me ring someone and check". (She's the midwifery team head by the way!!! not a newbie!)

hence why i posted the question here just to be certain ;-)

1st dd I got them all over my bum at around 35 weeks, didn't get any with other 2 dds and stomach hasn't a mark on it. Currently pregnant with number 4 and have everything crossed I stay stretch mark free!

BiscuitNibbler · 15/05/2011 21:29

I thought I didn't have them, but once I had had the baby and I could actually see the bottom half of my stomach I discovered I had lots.

RockChick1984 · 15/05/2011 22:51

I didn't have them at all while pregnant (examined under bump with a mirror regularly) and none when he first popped out - they appeared about a week or 2 after I had given birth! Think they only became visible when my tummy started shrinking again. And I'd been SO smug when he was first born....

FirstTimeMam2011 · 15/05/2011 22:55

Im stocking up on body oils, creams, lotions and potions as we speak.
I got sm's all over my bum, hips, inner thighs and boobs as a teenager due to growth spurt so Im expecting my belly to get nailed big time. And my mam got them when pg so Im defo prone. Sad

Not sure if the creams will help but Im sure going to use them anyways.

Pippaandpolly · 15/05/2011 23:03

Gosh you guys are lucky-I got them at about 8 weeks despite no weight gain and they've got steadily worse! Am 21 weeks tomorrow and my bump is a mess, though I've only gained 9lbs. I think I'm prone to them though as I got them as a teenager badly too. Am now noticing new ones starting on my hips, inner thighs and boobs. Joy!!

trixymalixy · 15/05/2011 23:05

I didn't get any until the lady couple of weeks before my 2 were born. I was feeling quite smug with DS that I didn't have any, then two appeared at about 38 weeks and got worse after he was out.

trixymalixy · 15/05/2011 23:07

Lady? Last, stupid iPhone.

With DD I was breathing a sigh of relief that they hadn't got any worse, but she was overdue and it was then that they started appearing.

TransatlanticCityGirl · 17/05/2011 19:10

I had a feeling that my midwife was being... shall we say, optimistic! Thanks all for sharing. I'll continue to hold my breath for another 6-8 weeks or so.
