Stretch marks: did you get them and from what week did you notice?

As the subject says, would like to know how many people out there got stretch marks and from what week did they first appear?

I'm 34 weeks and midwife said if I was going to get them, I would have had them by now... but both my mother and sister got them and also I had some stretch marks on my hip when I went through a teenage growth spurt - therefore I'm expecting a few.

So curious to hear what others have experienced.

I made it right up to my due date and they decided to erupt on that day, and the following week I was overdue, I didn't gain any weight through my pregnancy and made sure I moisturised and used bio oil etc, I think it's down to genes Grin

Connie I love the sound of that, where do you get it from and how much?

PastysPrincess · 10/06/2017 12:50

I already had stretch marks on my hips from puberty do they just carried on where they left off. I then got them all over my stomach area too but I can't remember when they started. I even have some that changed direction once by bump started to drop.

38 or so weeks with my first baby. She kept sticking her bum out and that was the final straw for my skin!

Overnight, covered!! Sad

fanfrickintastic · 10/06/2017 13:33

35/36 weeks. They started as red dots on my hips then spread upwards. I gave birth at 38 weeks but they reeked havoc in that 2/3 weeks! One was the width of my little finger. 18months on and I still hate them, they are silver like slug trails.

Cornishmumofone · 10/06/2017 13:41

I didn't get any. I drink a lot of water and put on

rollonthesummer · 10/06/2017 13:41

I didn't get them but not until really late on-I was a week overdue, I think.

Aria2015 · 10/06/2017 15:20

I didn't get any. I've put it down to my lo being 7lbs and me being quite tall (5.9). I have a long torso and my bump never got that big, my belly button didn't even start to go out.

My mother never got stretch marks but my sister did. I think some people just get lucky. I did use bio oil on my stomach every day too.

You're pretty close to the end now so fingers crossed none appear but if they do think of them as a badge of honour! Your body grew another human! That's amazing! Smile

I had absolutely none with DD and she was 9lb 3. I'm now 30 weeks with number 2 and have two quite red ones under the bump. Quite gutted and with 9 weeks left a bit concerned about what's to come! Not just in terms of stretch marks but being gigantic and uncomfortable in general...

To get rid of stretch mark I saw Stretch Mark Serum of Dermal md on facebook and read the stories of women who have had no stretch marks while pregnet and using this serum. As of now i'm 6 months and have NO stratch marks whats so ever. So far the product works and is highly recommended.

A580Hojas · 03/05/2022 05:24

I got my stretch marks in the last week or two of pregnancy. I thought it was a rash at first - somehow I wasn't expecting them to be bright red.

A580Hojas · 03/05/2022 05:26

Oh bum! Just realised this is a ZOMBIE bumped by someone trying to flog something.

mihimagna · 03/05/2022 06:09

I didn't get a single stretch mark during my first pregnancy. I used rosehip seed oil and Mustela. I rubbed the rosehip seed oil in first (generous amount) then topped off with Mustela stretch marks cream. I did this twice a day everyday, I started the regimen a month before I got pregnant. I would advise against using Bio oil because it has a couple of questionable ingredients mainly BHT. I would have gotten bad stretch marks because it runs in my family. I don't know if it was the oil that made a difference or the cream but the combo is what worked for me.

Roeslein · 03/05/2022 06:38

Only got them on my boobs and only after my milk came in, they faded quickly though...

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 03/05/2022 06:48

I didn’t get any at all with my two, who are 21 months apart. I was sure I would as my mum is covered in them and we have quite pale skin. I also had some on my bum when I was a teenager. Very strange but I think it was just luck.

timestheyarechanging · 03/05/2022 07:17

I didn't get any either time I was pregnant and I was huge with my son. I used an oil by Clarins daily - don't know if that helped or it was luck.
Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and congratulations

tuliplover · 03/05/2022 09:02

I didn't get any, not on my stomach anyway (I do have some on my thighs from growth too), and both my kids were around 10lbs. It is luck of the draw.

WildCoasts · 03/05/2022 09:14

Only in the last 2-3 weeks of pregnancy when I got them big time.

deliwoman1 · 03/05/2022 12:11

I'm 39 and 31 weeks pregnant and don't have any pregnancy-related ones... yet! I've been bio-oiling twice a day since the first trimester and at the very least am hoping I don't get super tight and itchy. I'm definitely susceptible though. Have them on bum and hips thanks to weight gain during lockdown, and I think rapid weight loss from before then. I'll be continuing my bio-oiling routine after baby is born, because I think weight loss is actually my real danger zone. I'm also mixed race, and I think my increased melanin stores save me a little 😀

LaddieCthulu · 03/05/2022 13:49

I am also expecting to get them as I got some in puberty. The horror.

Ladies, by all means pamper yourself with lovely oils, but if you avoid stretch marks... Its nothing to do with the oils. There is absolutely no evidence that you can prevent stretch marks with any amount of drinking water or expensive cream!
