Stretch marks: did you get them and from what week did you notice?

As the subject says, would like to know how many people out there got stretch marks and from what week did they first appear?

I'm 34 weeks and midwife said if I was going to get them, I would have had them by now... but both my mother and sister got them and also I had some stretch marks on my hip when I went through a teenage growth spurt - therefore I'm expecting a few.

So curious to hear what others have experienced.

Week 34 as that's when I went into labour. I swear they weren't there beforehand, but on coming home from nicu 4 weeks later, there they were

duckyneedsaclean · 01/05/2015 12:17

Mine appeared a week after birth. Yup. Juuust at the teary phase.

hobNong · 01/05/2015 12:20

I was about 38 weeks. Thought I'd escaped them and was very surprised about that but then they all came at once. Like when you're waiting for a bus.

hobNong · 01/05/2015 12:21

I got loads in teenage growth spurt though - hips, legs, boobs Sad - if you just got some on your hips, you might be luckier than me and get none! Or you might get none anyway!

FernGullysWoollyPully · 01/05/2015 12:27

I got one tiny one next to my belly button at 18 weeks. Frantically started to apply creams and oils 3/4 times a day, drinking loads of water after being told that hydration was the key. But before I knew it I was absolutely covered in them. My stomach looks like I've been burnt and they reach right down into my public hair. I've also got them on the backs of my knees, my boobs and the tops of my arms.

No creams, lotions, bio oil will get rid of them or even mask them a tiny bit. My mum and gran didn't have a single one.

FreckledLeopard · 01/05/2015 12:33

I had them by 7 weeks' pregnant Angry. They started on my breasts, then my bump was covered by 30 weeks or so. They were itchy and split open in places. Still scarred 15 years on Sad.

Dermalmd Stretch Mark Cream is AMAZING! It works very fast and it efficiently. I have tried it on both stretch marks and scars and it has done wonders! I apply it two times a day and try to massage it and wait until it is completely absorbed by my skin. I love all of the ingredients it has and how it feels when applied. Overall, great product!

Moodyblue1 · 03/08/2015 14:21

I didn't get a single one during my first pregnancy and I used palmers cocoa butter every morning and bio oil every night, I've done exactly the same in this pregnancy and have got absolutely loads of the things all over thighs & hips. They go down as far as my bloody knees and I'm only 28 weeks I dread to think what I will look like when I'm done. I'm on the lookout for a wonder cream to make them look better if such a thing exists!

Cornberry · 03/08/2015 17:05

I didn't get any until about 35 weeks

Twasthecatthatdidit · 03/08/2015 17:08

None, but gave birth at 38 weeks.

feetheart · 03/08/2015 17:11

I got them as a teenager but none with either pregnancy at 40 and 43 but then my mum didn't get any with twins Shock
I can thank good genes rather than anything I did - sorry!

DuhNuh · 03/08/2015 17:13

I'm convinced it's noting but luck and genes. I got none in my first pregnancy (got to 35 weeks and used cocoa butter sporadically) and two in my second (1 week over and used cocoa butter about twice)

goodnessgraciousgouda · 03/08/2015 19:31

I actually think it's the exact opposite OP. Lots of people ONLY get them in the last few weeks.

Genetics can make a big difference, but they aren't the ONLY factor in whether you get them or not unless you have an extreme propensity for/against them.

Keeping hydrated, avoiding sudden weight gain, keeping active, a healthy diet and yes, using some sort of body cream (anything really) will all be other contributing factors.

I have stretch marks ALL over my hips and thighs from when I was a teenager, but then again I had a sudden growth spurt, was often dehydrated and never used body lotion despite having dry skin.

happymummyone · 03/08/2015 19:43

First pregnancy, I got them under the bump with about 5 weeks to go. This pregnancy, I had the beginnings of them on the front of my stomach at about 10 weeks and now I have a lot of deep, angry red ones on my tummy, still got 8 weeks to go though! I'm going to look like a party balloon that's been found behind the sofa a month after the party!!

Chchchchanging · 03/08/2015 22:10

Nothing at 40 weeks
By 41 weeks stretched skin - the white ones not purple
Now pg again and the original ones are visible at 28 wks Confused
Am bio oil religiously- last time they were a lot less visible after significant exercise and dieting within a year or so

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 03/08/2015 22:22

First baby, no stretch marks at all. Second pregnancy, 39 weeks Angry

Newlywed56 · 03/08/2015 22:49

I got them quite bad (had oedema- bad pregnancy swelling) so didn't expect to escape them however i didn't think they would be just so many of them- stomach, hips, thighs, boobs... Hips are the thickest ones :/, have a lovely healthy baby girl to show for it though so that's all that matters at the end of the day. They aren't the worst things in the world Flowers

blueshoes · 03/08/2015 22:59

I had stretch marks on my hips as a teenager. They are completely gone now.

2 pregnancies. No stretch marks whatsoever.

NotMrsTumble · 03/08/2015 23:08

Dc1 (13 now) left me with terrible red angry stretch marks, I looked like I'd been scratched by a bear or a tiger. Probs about 32 weeks onward. Sad to report that they're still there, though now faded. Didn't really accumulate any extras with dc2&3, but couldn't say for sure as dc1 caused so many. Doesn't help that my skin is always slow to heal anyway and I'm prone to scarring

puddymuddles · 03/08/2015 23:16

I was lucky not to get them and have 3 DC. I have got some rather noticeable spidery veins in my legs though that appeared after third baby and tummy will never be flat like that of Victoria Beckham (and doesn't she have three or 4 DC?!!

RaaRaa1924 · 03/08/2015 23:19

40 weeks under the bump -DH spotted them. Also some after I have birth!

ARV1981 · 04/08/2015 07:40

If it mine at around 26 weeks...or at least that's when I noticed them. They've got progressively worse since then (34 weeks now) and the bottom of my bump is covered in angry red and purple lines.

I have been using bio oil, argan oil and palmers cocoa butter stuff. Doesn't seem to make any difference but it's nice massaging it in to the bump as I get a reaction from baby.

I think, if you're going to get them you will. Lucky, lucky ladies that haven't had them at all!!

ARV1981 · 04/08/2015 07:41

I got mine... not if it mine.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 04/08/2015 07:46

I didn't get any , and I was mahoosive - I felt incredibly lucky. I do however wet myself whenever I sneeze Hmm

(I used Palmers coco butter)
