kir5ty as far as i understand it you have the right to choose which hospital you use, and your GP should not be limiting this . see here

linziluv · 25/05/2011 11:21

Hey...I'm further on than u all at 5 days overdue! I'm in Stockport but originally the urmston area (went to flixton girls/urmston grammar sixth form!)
I'm 25 and this is DC2 and planned home birth if she ever decides to make an appearance! Otherwise I'm off to stepping hill!

kri5ty · 27/05/2011 08:52

Hi all, I read this a while ago but didn't post as no one was near me, but not there's a couple of people from Saddleworth and Stockport I'll join in.
I'm 33 and expecting my 2nd DC in October. Oh and I'm in Stalybridge, so going to Tameside.

CollieandPup · 27/05/2011 10:42

ohh bilbilo I'm the saddleworth person Grin you're v close. When are you due?

Scheherezadea · 27/05/2011 11:12

You're same age as my DP, and he went to Urmston Grammar, so likely than not you know each other! Small world :o

We're hoping to move there. MIL works at Flixton Girls now and from her (horror!) stories would not send DC there! But am hoping DC would go to Urmston grammar, DP raves about how great it was.

roz1982 · 27/05/2011 13:11

Hey dears! I love this thread!! Im a chorlton mum to be 15 weeks yesterday, St Mary's hos and can't wait to find out what I'm having!!

Kri5ty - Hello fellow chorltonite! I'm pretty sure you can choose where you have your baby! I've been mostly happy with st mary's but they did totally cock up my booking in app and first scan - they didnt even have my doctors refferal and notes! also my 12 weeks scan must have been in, out and over in 5 mins! The sonographer was a right misery! Didn't take away from how amazing it was though!!

bilblio · 27/05/2011 20:48

Hi Collie, I'm due October 24th, so I'm bit further on than you. :)

adewonder · 27/05/2011 22:13

Hi all, I live in whalley range, 33yrs(good god I'm older than I think), and am 9 weeks so far. First one, no clue of what's going on, but should have first scan on 6th June - my gp just automatically refers to st marys. Not telling people til I've had a scan just in case it's all a mistake.

nina79 · 28/05/2011 11:17

Hello
I live in Whalley range so not far from you! I am 9 weeks pregnant with my first..and feeling very very sick at the moment!

iskra · 28/05/2011 11:20

Hello, I am 25w-ish with my second. Currently living in London but moving up to Stretford in July when I'm 30 weeks or so. Hoping it won't be too difficult to get maternity care sorted out & a homebirth booked.

Does anyone know whether it's better to book with one hospital over another because they are more homebirth friendly? I'm guessing I could book with Salford or Trafford as my nearest.

iskra · 28/05/2011 11:20

Hey Nina - that's my first DD's name Grin

ragdollismyname · 28/05/2011 15:02

hello all!!! Im now 17+6weeks, enjoying my pregnancy after some bleeding early on. Having my baby at fairfield, they were supposed to be closing this year but think it has been postponed til next spring now. Im glad about that because had my first baby there and they really looked after me!!
Think Bolton hospital is supposed to be good, it's all shiny and new!!! There are always good and bad reports about any hospital, just got to hope for the best!!
It's nice to have a northern thread going on..can compare notes about how we are all getting on with the local hospitals!!
Got my 20week in a couple of weeks but we are not finding out what we are having... how's everyone else doin??

lovemybabyboy · 28/05/2011 22:52

Hi, Im 19 weeks today with DC2, living in Gorton, Manchester....have my 20 week scan in 9 days....cant wait! but not finding out the sex, we are waiting for a suprise this time, we found out with my DS.
Having baby at St. Mary's....thats where I had my DS but it was the old building then so looking forward to trying out the new building! lol

Jellyboobs · 29/05/2011 18:15

Hello! I'm in Saddleworth too, CollieandPup, really early on, not registered anywhere yet, I guess it will be Oldham tho!
Forced into telling people this w/e at a friend's wedding as people saw
me turning down wine and demanded to know.Ooop! So 5 weeks and LOADS of people know....anyone else had this situation?
Xx

kritur · 29/05/2011 20:01

I'm another Kristy (not a common name), 31, living in N. Bolton and 13 weeks.

bilblio · 29/05/2011 22:14

Jelly - I told people as soon as I knew. I have 2 jobs and one involves lots of moving and handling, pushing wheelchairs etc so I had to let them know for risk assessments. I figured as I was telling one place I may as well tell the other... and so I couldn't Not tell my friends and family.
We did wait till the 12 week scan before telling DD, and mentioning it on facebook :)

I'm rubbish at keeping secrets about myself. Plus if anything had have happened I'd have been upset and I'd have wanted people to know why. I can understand why people do keep quiet, but I think it's odd that it's almost a taboo subject before 12 weeks.

Jellyboobs · 29/05/2011 23:18

Bilblio, that's so true! My OH has so set on telling everyone we met last night and everyone we did tell was so delighted I realised all over again why I love our friends so much! I feel like it makes it all VERY real rather than this wonderful exciting secret! Now we've started to tell though I want to get it all out there, but feel as though I should wait for 12 weeks....silly!
Thanks for another perspective, I thought everyone kept it secret :-)

tigandtiglet · 30/05/2011 07:27

Bilblio, I'm also in Vegas! 28 and this is my first. Due Sept with a little girl. So excited but nervous too. Booked at St Mary's as family not keen on Tameside.

bilblio · 30/05/2011 10:24

Hi Tig. I had my DD at Tameside and they were excellent. I know the hospital has a bad reputation in general, but I only hear good things about the maternity section. I was left pretty much to it once I was on the ward, I think I expected people to keep coming in to check on us, but there where people around when I needed them.

My DH doesn't drive, and the nearest family are in Sheffield so it's taxi's to hospital for us... I wouldn't fancy the trip to St Mary's by taxi. :)

Jelly, tell whoever you like, between us we'll break the taboo :o The only reason I waited to tell my DD was she's only 3 and as often as I explain how far away October is she doesn't understand. Since she found out 6 weeks ago she's asked every day "How big is your baby now Mummy? Is it coming out today?"
I think she'd actually guessed before we told her anyway, I was starting to show and she kept asking if I had a baby in my belly.... or it could have been wishful thinking, as she saw my SIL's growing bump. :o

kri5ty · 30/05/2011 16:38

adewonder where about in whalley range? We have recently moved from there to chorlton...
