Hi Kritur/Kirsty!
I'm also 31, live in Bolton and am 13 weeks!! I've just moved here from Sth Manchester so need to move to a Bolton hosp, any recommendation?

EasilyBored · 31/05/2011 11:56

Hello! Bit of a lurker here and just noticed this thread.
Live in Prestwich but am going to Bolton Royal, about 7/8 weeks along, but have seen the early pregnancy unit at North Manc General already. Went to the EPU at Fairfield in my last pregnancy and they were really lovely, shame they're closing it. There's a new free standing birth centre opening in Salford in Nov too if you hadn't heard.

kri5ty · 31/05/2011 12:41

Kr5ty - shattered is my short answer. I don't think I've ever slept so much.
Is it just me, or do others get tired going up stairs?
I ran 10ks before this, this morning I was at a meeting in town so got the bus instead of driving, and felt like I was getting palpitations by the time I'd waked past the whalley pub towards the bus stop, which must be...5mins from my house.
Hard to cover up this level of looking crap and knackeredness.

kri5ty · 31/05/2011 18:13

Haha adewonder I'm sorry I just burst out laughing... I did the exact same walk last week and was shattered!! I walk up 15 stairs at work and I'm panting at the top!

Hello saddleworth buddy. Where abouts are you? Im in Delph. I'm currently registered at Oldham but before my next mw apt im going to look at other options. Oldham doesn't have any birthing centres so its home or hospital. Think hudddersfield has birthing centres but i'm not sure about the distance. St Marys also has a good reputation but its far too.

I'm just over 15weeks and have only just told people but i mc in dec at 12 weeks so have been very nevous. Ironically i only told one close friend that i was pg last time, because i was frightened of things going wrong, but then when they did, i chose to tell people about the mc for the support. I think as long as you are comfortable with people knowing then its your business.

ade and kir5sty me too!! I work on the 2nd floor of a building and could normally sprint up the stairs without a bat of an eye, These days by the time i get to the top i'm all puffed out and knackers, doing my best not to say morning to anyone too quickly so im not panting!! Smile

kri5ty · 01/06/2011 12:24

CollieandPup its awful isnt it! I feel like people are looking down at me, as im unfit lol, but 3 months ago i was super fit lol

how far would it be for you to travel to st marys? I am not under tham, but i dealt witht he early preg unit there and they were fab, my friend had her boy in the birth centre there and said it was brill x

Collie, if it's midwifery led care that you're after at a birthing centre, then they do that at Tameside, that's what I'm having. The bonus is that if there are complications they don't have to move you to a different hospital, just a couple of rooms down.

I'm also shattered and have developed a significant waddle in the past week. Even though I'm only 19 weeks! In my defence the job I do at the weekend is making me ache and my back sore.... I start waddling less by about Thursday, but I have to go back Saturday so it all starts again. Hopefully I'll be finishing that job in 2 weeks though. I'm starting Mat leave as early as I can because I'm fed up of hurting!

I've never been fit, but I've lost 3 stone in the last couple of years. I thought it would make this pregnancy a lot easier, but the extra job this time, and a 3 year old are definitely making it harder. :o

CollieandPup · 01/06/2011 13:44

kir5sty I'm trying to go swimming to at least kee fit, but my the time i'm home from work at 7 im just beat!

St Marys is 35 mins away, assuming traffic is light. I was chatting to a friend last night whose birthing centre was 40 mins away. She travelled there at 3cm dialated and said it was hard so the distance does worry me. But i have heard good things about it.

Bilblio i read your post recommending t/side. I have to say though i have my reservations. I have a friend who lives in Mossley who had such a terrible experience of t/side in her first pg that this time she is at oldham. Also I am very aware of the general reputation of tameside which, i know you've mentioned, but can't help it put me off.

Does anyone know how best to reseach hospital options? i.e. what each hospital / MLU has to offer and there polices/approaches/results so as to compare and contrast?

Jellyboobs · 01/06/2011 23:29

Hi Collie! I'm in uppermill! I wouldnt fancy my chances over to huddersfield in january, so that might count it out. This conversation is really interesting, definitely hadn't considered all the options. I have 2 midwife friends, one who works for bupa & the other who's a hospital midwife, so Ill have to pick their brains.
Started feeling the first sickness, tiredness etc today. Was really bouncy last week, very unlike me, but knackered this week, bed by ten, feel like a little snooze midday...:-\zzzzzzzz
My lovely preggers friend has given me a sack of books & magazines to read, and loads of ace advice :)
Xxx

Scheherezadea · 02/06/2011 07:51

Well you're all making me feel terrible. I gave up working at 3 months, put my horses out on loan/sold, and am spending my days sat around eating homemade treats! Am 21 weeks now. Very excited for the baby sale on saturday, though we'll only be able to make it for an hourish.

FelizFuturaMama · 02/06/2011 10:41

We're registered with the Oswald Medical Group and have been with them for a year since we moved to Manchester. I really wouldn't recommend them, it's really difficult to get an appointment (and I work freelance so I'm not fussy about times) plus the reception staff are incredibly rude and as unhelpful as possible. My husband waited 10 months to be referred to the diabetic clinic as they kept on forgetting and it's two weeks since I called requesting my MATB1. Also, they forgot to refer me to the hospital for weeks, and when I chased it the delay to my scan meant I missed the nuchal screening. On the bright side no probs with me going to Wythenshawe!

kri5ty · 02/06/2011 11:00

Thanks FelizFuturaMama, will avoid that one!! i really dont want to leave my docs in sale, they are fab :-( but i guess having a lovely baby will soften the blow!!

I stil dont know if i should transfer to st marys or stay at wythenshawe, there was a 4 week wait just for me to get my first appointment with the consultant! and i will be 13 + 4 when i have my scan so really only just in time for Nuchal screening...

Out of curiosity is it the doctores that give you the MATB1 form?

Thanks x

Hello,

Only just seen this thread, I'm Dee and am 10weeks. I live in Bolton, orginally from Sheffield, and have just been referred by my DR to the midwifes at Royal Bolton (I work away in teh week so had to wait til holidays to see the DR). It is my first child, but was referred to the RB EPU last December when I mc - they were great then, hopefully will be good. It's nice to meet local ladies x

adewonder · 05/06/2011 22:43

Hungry and can't find anything I want to eat. Sick of waiting for a scan, tired of working and feeling crap and want to stay at home cleaning the house so it doesn't smell of anything but lemons as everything smells funny and makes me sick.
My booking in appt is thurs at st marys, will they scan me or not? I've only just realised that the two things are different.
Has anyone ad a private scan in Manchester yet, if so where?
I'm registered with range medical on withington rd, drs are nice but it takes 3weeks to get an appt unless u phone at 8 for same day emergency appt. I don't know if being pregnant and pissed off counts as an emergency.

kri5ty · 06/06/2011 07:47

ade hello :)

Theyw on't scan you at your booking in ap (well they didnt with me anyway, but im not under st marys, going to try and change now though)

The bridgewater hospital off princes parkway, near asda do private screenings, alsp there is a place in old trafford that you can book online, i cant remember the name, but i typed in "private dating scan manchester" in to google, its about £100.

I understand what you mean about wanting to clean... my house smells horrible... of course my boyfriend thinks im just mad, which makes me more annoyed! ahhhh dam hormones!

Hi kri5ty

I agree with FelizFuturaMama about the Oswald Medical Group. I tried to register with them when I first move to Chorlton and never even managed that they were so bad! I am with Dr Wilson at the Wilbraham Surgery on Wilbraham Rd and he is brilliant! It's really easy to get an appointment too. If you ring up from 8.30 on the day you want to go in they will give you a time for that morning. That's how you register too. Give them a call, number is 0161 881 6120.

Hope that helps!

Mrs H xx

kri5ty · 06/06/2011 12:00

MrsCLH thanks :-)

I just called then, but i work everyday until 1.30, so will have to book a day off in order to register haha, is it easy to get appointments with them for afternoons (after you register)

OP posts:
Jellyboobs · 06/06/2011 20:25

ade and kri5ty Oh the smells!!! My house smells alright but the smell of the wholemeal bread we always get sends me rushing to the loo. My OH has thrown it out and bought me new white bread :o but my sick imagination keep remembering the smell while I'm eating other food.
I can't think of eating meat, I think I can just about manage beans on (white) toast with cheese, and weetabix. That's it!
I feel REALLY sorry for anyone who has to have this for the whole pregnancy (pleaseletitnotbemepleaseletitnotbemepleeeeeeeaaaaazzzzzzeeee!!!!)

MrsCLH · 06/06/2011 20:37

kri5ty - I think afternoons are okay too. I once called up in the afternoon with a suspected urine infection and they saw me within the hour. Hope you manage to get registered!

kri5ty · 06/06/2011 21:47

Thanks :-) I'll pop in and make an appointment to register next week x

Jellyboobs · 07/06/2011 17:11

Hehehe, poor boyfriends, mine is quite confused now about what he can have open in the house.
My belly is quite happy to be filled with cake, chocs, sweeties and fruity pies. What a shame!
Xx

I had to go a different route in the car the other day as someone in a car in front was smoking. Plus I now know that someone on the same floor as my office gets to work in the morning with a definite boost aroma. It's like a superpower.
