is anyone else feeling a little left out by the first-timers due in December thread? This will be my second DC (DS will be 3.5). I think I'm due on 15th December.

skillbo I don't how I knew, I can't explain it, just a feeling I had. I was certain DS was a boy before we found out, maybe I'm psychic!

Our current favourite name is Ava, so we'll use that unless we think of anything else before she's here. I also like Anya and Arianna but DH hates them both!

aethelfleda my sister's surname is Hunt, when she was fed up of people asking about names before her DD was born she said she'd be using Amber for a girl or Bear for a boy.

goodnightmoon · 24/08/2011 09:50

hi ladies, just checking in.

Skillbo - did you have your diabetes check yet? I am paranoid about getting it, after my SIL had a 10 lb baby that they think might have been because of gestational diabetes. She had three subsequent pregnancies where she controlled her diet but still had pretty large babies - and she is slim and small. There is some diabetes in my actual family too so it's always a worry ... one reason I have forsaken bread, rice, pasta, etc.

well like Seven, I also had a strong feeling about the gender of both my children. I just knew it would be a boy the first time and this time I was certain it would be a girl. I read something about not needing to shave your legs often if you were having a girl and weirdly i have totally found this to be true - the hair is just not growing!

Names are such a quagmire - I was repeatedly questioned by family and friends on my visit home. I do have one in mind that I think DH will accept (he didn't outright say no!) but I was NOT going to tell anyone - especially after last time when we got really negative feedback from family about the name we were considering for our son - and this was after he was born and we were actually scrambling. We ultimately went with something more "acceptable." grrr. (though obviously very happy now with it since it always becomes the name of your child and not just an abstraction)

Ava is a very pretty name. I also like Eve a lot and might run it by hubby. we currently can't agree on a bin for our new kitchen though so god knows! He's already rejected Meg and Sadie, which were sort of random ideas I had. I thought choosing a boy name was hard but am finding girls names just as hard (hence why I think I will trust my gut and push for the not-unusual but quite nice name I have in mind.) :)

aethelfleda · 24/08/2011 13:08

I have an idea. Let's all just call 'em Fred (irrespective of Gender- girls can be Frederica and boys can be Alfred). As long as we don't try for a meetup whem they are all born we'll be fine.....

hawthers · 31/08/2011 13:31

22 week scan all good over here - lots of wriggling anf jumping. next scan to check growth at 28 weeks so fingers crossed for lots of growing between now and then!

goodnightmoon · 01/09/2011 08:47

well done Hawthers! that's nice you are being offered a 28 week scan - is that for a specific reason? I feel a bit at sea having no scans now between now and birth. I'm thinking of having a private one at some stage, maybe around 35 weeks?? With my son we had a 3D scan at 30 weeks. It was a bit too late to get great pix (he was running out of room!) but it was somewhat reassuring to get his growth measurements, etc.

aethelfleda - i actually always liked Wilfred - not so much for itself but for Wilf or Freddy.

But oops - i'm having a little lass!

hawthers · 01/09/2011 10:17

hi goodnight - my first son had IUGR (interuterine growth restriction) which was picked up at the 22 week scan where he was on the 6th percentile. I was scanned at 25 weeks, 27 weeks and then twice a week until nearly 32 weeks when DS was delivered by elective cs as they considered he was too small and weak to make it through labour. He was 2lbs (900g) and spent 16 and a half weeks in the NICU - fun times Sad

this time around i'm getting regular growth scans to check how this baby is doing as there is an increased risk of reoccurence. so far so good - on 23rd percentile at 22 weeks and just need to keep getting fat - i'm doing my bit by eating lots of cake Wink

having had loads of scans i'd rather not have any ever again (!) but if i was you i'd definitely feel like it was an awfully long time in between checking up on the little miss/mr so i'd get a private one for sure if you are at all worried.

hawthers · 05/09/2011 17:22

hello?? quiet weekend? where has everyone gone?

aethelfleda · 05/09/2011 20:38

Hiya -wave- I've been waiting for someone else to post! This can happen on threads sometimes. Things are good this end, apart from work being busy, keep having to remind myself to drink enough when I'm there.

Am slowly picking up baby bits here and there- by DC3 I pretty much know what we'll use and what's unnecessary for us. Got a snot-sucker from boots Today (sorry, nasal aspirator). For a winter baby with two big sisters, I think we'll be needing one: DD2 had her first cold at 2 weeks old!

goodnightmoon · 05/09/2011 21:46

Hi Hawthers, that's good they are monitoring you closely now. My son's measurements were a bit small but nothing major in utero and he actually came out on the 50th centile. Then immediately plummeted to 9th centile for about 8 months which was a bit of a nuisance but once he started eating solids he caught up. totally different situation and not like having to be in NICU but just to say - growth things can be so worrying.

Aethefleda - i'd forgotten all about things like aspirators. actually i think i'm in denial about the whole infant stage - would it be awful if i went on holiday for a few months and left baby with our nanny?

hawthers · 07/09/2011 15:51

urgh - back aches, can't get comfortable, have had about a million trips to the loo today. want to enjoy being pregnant but finding it a bit wearing today.

have finally ordered bed for DS1 so that he can move into his new room and the cot will be free by the time the newbie arrives. not too sure how he'll cope with it - am a bit worried he'll spend all night rolling out of it and what do you do about sleeping bag/duvet/pillow... any thoughts? had got used to knowing what i was doing and now have to get onto the next stage again AND remember which end is up with a newborn soon... hmm nervous!

goodnightmoon · 08/09/2011 13:00

hawthers, hope your back feels better. I'm also finding i need to go to the loo loads but then very little happens when i get there!

we are also putting our son into his first bed this weekend, he's 3 though. Ours has a bed guard and is quite low to the ground so he shouldn't really fall out. It's a junior bed from Ikea which is a funny size so i've just ordered cotbed duvet, pillow and covers that will be a little smaller when it's made up but I figure that's where all these random baby blankets and throws i've ended up with can come in handy.

He's been in a sleep bag until now but he's slept in beds with blankets a lot recently when travelling so i think he should transition fine to the new regime. i'm more worried about him gettting out of bed and trying to get us. I need all the sleep i can get in the next few months!

sevensevenseven · 10/09/2011 14:00

hawthers how old is your DS? We put DS in a proper bed just before his 3rd birthday. I was worried about him falling out but he hasn't done once, and actually started sleeping better as well.

How is everyone feeling? I'm quite breathless and dizzy today, and generally feeling tired and rubbish. Still I suppose I'd better get used to being tired, it'll only last for another year!

eisbaer · 10/09/2011 18:13

ooh, can I join in a bit late? I'm finding it hard going this time(3rd pregnancy). Especially my mental state! I'm obsessing and getting really angry about non-issues all the time, had forgotten about this element - the hormones, like constant, really bad PMT. Have come to only trust my reaction to something when I think about it first thing in the morning following a semi-decent night's sleep. Also can't get comfy and feel really unattractive, not the same as last two pregnancies atall. Sorry to moan, but I feell alot better already!

aethelfleda · 10/09/2011 18:49

Hi hawthers - both my two went into toddler beds at about 20 months as they kept trying to climb out of their cot..

With DD1 we used a grobag/snugglesac- worked brilliantly (and they are cheaper on ebay or in TK Maxx than any of the mainstream suppliers, or use an NCT sale). No problems at all with fall-out.

Dd2 hated grobags with a vengeance :( so instead
We got a toddler duvet, plus i found this nifty duvet-retainer strap that goes under the mattress- worked really well and she only fell out once in 2 years of using it. Bit pricey but totally worth it.

duvet grippers

We also had a temporary bedguard (babydan one) for a while but they kept trying to do acrobatics on it!!

aethelfleda · 10/09/2011 18:51

Oh and if you keep him in a grobag he will still come to get you- DD1 was a master of the "grobag shuffle"! Apparently the kids who use the older age ones from 3-6 years are excellent at the school sack races!!

goodnightmoon · 10/09/2011 22:09

that's funny - my 3 year old is definitely very mobile in his sleep bag, i'm sure he's gotten down the stairs in it, not that i recommend that!

hawthers · 12/09/2011 13:33

DS1 is just 2 but thought we'd get him sorted into his own room well before the new baby arrives so there is no feeling of him being pushed out. he loves the ideas of beds and always gets into ours and pulls the duvet up and says night night so hopefully we'll do ok...

am planning to start him off in his grobag and see how it goes. the bed is fairly low and we'll have a bed guard together with a soft landing at the end of hte bed in case he decides to trot out. if that doesn't work then we'll be buying a duvet and pillow sharpish.

feeling exhausted today and really hot. sitting in the office in a vest... not too sure what the conservative partners make of that here but sod it!

Skillbo · 13/09/2011 21:28

Hello ladies

Hope we're all feeling not bad although don't know about you, but I'm starting to waddle a bit and have got that definite laidback walk which I don't remember hitting until much later before... oh well!

I couldn't find any gro-bags that went beyond 2 Sad so DD has been in her cot with a duvet for a couple of months now... debating whether to lower the side of her cotbed as she is probably ready although can see her flying out of it regularly to start with as she is a proper wrigglebutt! Apparently there is a bed guard on special in Argos (or Asda, may have misheard) so might have to look into that. A friend is giving us her old cotbed for DS which is great but it looks even bigger than DD's so not sure how we're going to cram it into our room... will need to through as we're only in a 2 bed flat, DD won't share and I want DS in with us for at least 6 months...

Have my diabetic check next week which is going to be interesting.

Forgot to get my MatB1 form thing into work as well which should have been done a couple of weeks ago.. had a nervous few hours waiting to hear from HR that they would accept it.. and of course they would - I guess it's only going to cause problems if I disappear in the next couple of weeks but, everything crossed, that's not going to happen!

Had a rather odd thing with my eyes a couple of weeks ago - you know when you have your photo taken you get a flash in your eyes for bit... well, I seemed to have this all day and when I woke up the next morning it was still there. Went & got it checked at the midwives (as obviously could be a sign of pre-eclampsia) but no problems there, they sent me to the GP who referred me to eye casualty who did a scan and other tests only to say they don't know what's up? I'd heard weird things can happen to your eyes but no one seemed to think this was directly related to pregnancy.. has anyone else had anything similar (before I go into brain tumour mode!)

Sorry for the me, me, me post.. Smile

goodnightmoon · 20/09/2011 09:37

hello ladies, just looking for any new updates from you all!

Skillbo, that's interesting about your eyes, though good of course there was no apparent problem. I was in woodland on Sunday, and had some weird yellow spots coming and going in my vision that I figured was from the sunlight coming through the trees. It did last a while.

I've still not handed in my matb1 form - oops. I do have it.

Hawthers - how's the bed thing going? My son took like a fish to water to his new junior bed, though he did say once last week he missed his cot ("because it was beautiful") and one night asked for his sleepbag. Bless.

I'm not waddling yet, and am actually surprised how nimble I'm still feeling. I walk a couple of miles every day as part of my commutes, with no problems at the moment. My early SPD and hip/back pain actually is much better and only really bothers me whilst sleeping. (also getting calf cramps - ugh, sleeping is the worst.)

I'm thinking about booking a wellbeing scan around 32 weeks, just to see how everything is looking.

Getting close to the third trimester now, whoo hoo!

hawthers · 20/09/2011 12:25

sacroiliac pain - ow that is all i've got to say. well clearly it isn't - mainly hitting me at really awkward times yesterday - getting up from a chair in a work meeting (ow), going down the steps at the station with lots of busy commuters (ow), getting up from sitting down at any point last night (ow ow ow).

goodnightmoon ah the bed thing. well we've gone for a single bed and in the process of redecorating the room and have ordered duvet and bed guard. not too sure whether we'll try the little man in his sleeping bag or with a duvet when we finally pull it all together. he was up last night though between 12.30 and 3.15 (NEVER normally happens) so i dread to think what it will be like when he can actually escape out of his bed.... hmm think i'll be getting a few sleepless nights in preparation for the new nugget... arse

sevensevenseven · 20/09/2011 12:33

Hope everyone is getting on ok. Nothing much to add here, but pleased to have hit the 3rd trimester today.

hawthers · 20/09/2011 13:02

seven is that 28 weeks? can't quite work it out Blush

goodnightmoon · 20/09/2011 13:09

hawthers - hope the bed transition goes well. My son hasn't tried to get out - he will call out to be gotten up! Fine with me (as long as it's morning!).

on the sacroiliac pain, that sounds like what I have basically, mainly on my left side. I know what you mean about it just hitting at awkward times. for a few weeks I could never really be sure what would happen when i stood up. It still hits from time to time but I am giving huge credit to my osteopath because she really seems to have made a massive difference. Mine usually eases too after I've "walked it out" a bit, though there were a couple of times early on when walking at all was almost impossible!

seven - congrats on getting to the third trimester! I think I officially enter it Sunday. (assuming its after hitting 28 weeks!)

sevensevenseven · 20/09/2011 14:45

I'm 27 weeks today, I think some sources say 27 and others say 28 weeks. My pregnancy book says 27 so I'm going with that.

hawthers · 20/09/2011 14:49

ooh then yey yey yey i'll be 27 weeks on thursday and in my third trimester on my wedding anniversary - nice!
