is anyone else feeling a little left out by the first-timers due in December thread? This will be my second DC (DS will be 3.5). I think I'm due on 15th December.

I meant to ask has anyone else dropped yet? Hopefully it doesn't mean she'll arrive too early.

goodnightmoon · 20/09/2011 20:06

ooh - i'm already in the third trimester then - wonderful!

not sure if I've "dropped" but I do feel I'm carrying low. Baby seems happy to nestle in low down and that's where I feel all her wiggles. Early sounds good to me, though obviously not in the next few weeks!

aethelfleda · 20/09/2011 22:30

I'm 26 weeks- as far as I'm concerned that's near enough third trimester!!

Am starting to get heartburn which says things are advancing, thank you... 10 weeks til mat leave and counting!!

Witchofthenorth · 21/09/2011 12:03

Hiya ladies! Just found you all :)

25 weeks and due on new years eve.....can I join?
Just found out today I have mild SPD and am waiting for the complete lack of understanding from family who spout the "pregnancy is not an illness!" line at every opportunity Hmm any tips on how to deal with it?

sevensevenseven · 21/09/2011 13:45

Hi witch, sorry to hear about the SPD!

goodnight I had DS at 35+5, he was fine but was too early to breastfeed as he hadn't developed a strong suck reflex. I'm hoping I'll make it to at least 37 weeks.

aethelfleda · 21/09/2011 20:39

Hiya witch, welcome to the thread. I'll probably be joining you in the wait as my due date is dec 27, but my DD2 was 7 day over so I'm probably looking at a new Year baby too...

aethelfleda · 21/09/2011 20:42

Oh and if your SPD gets any worse at all (which it may do) then ring your GP and ask them to refer you to a physio asap- they normally see you quickly if they know you are pregnant, and can give you tips to avoid straining things, and arrange mobility aids if things really go tits up.

Witchofthenorth · 21/09/2011 21:08

TYVM aethelfleda :) fingers crossed it will remain manageable, I am however, preparing for it to get worse, this is baby number four after all Wink things ain't what they used to be in them there nether regions :)

goodnightmoon · 22/09/2011 08:38

welcome witch. do try to get treatment for the SPD - my (private and expensive) osteopath has done me a world of good. Re: physio - I asked for a referral from my GP 12 WEEKS AGO and am still waiting for an appointment. The physio unit acknowledged my request in a letter on July 13 (10 weeks ago) and said they'd be in touch. I called two weeks ago and they said it should be any day now. Last pregnancy my first physio appointment didn't come through until after I'd already given birth so anyone who needs it should tell their GP it is urgent. Or maybe I'm just in a rubbish area with an overextended physio department ...

Skillbo · 22/09/2011 21:31

Evening ladies!

Welcome witch - sorry to hear you're suffering a bit, hope you don't get too many smart alec comments... it's not an illness but my goodness, it can really lay you out!

Got DD into her bed this week and it's proving a bit fun - first couple of nights she hated it and kept appearing but last night she whinged a bit in the middle of the night but didn't get up. I knew it would be hard but she's always been such a good sleeper that it's a quite tough having an up and down baby! Well, a few months for her to get the hang of it.. bring back her 8 - 8 sleeps though Smile

And wooooo for 3rd trimesters, hadn't really thought about it but I hit 28 weeks on Monday! Have my GD check tomorrow so will let you know how it goes - quite nervous now but just cos I want to continue to eat things I know I shouldn't Grin

athelfeda - wow, ten weeks left - not long at all (yay!).. I have a bit longer but am not planning on leaving until as late as possible really as can only take what I get paid for (DH is the SAHP which means there will be two of us for my leave which is great but does mean we can't survive on SMP -but my work is pretty generous so not complaining!

I don't think he's dropped yet although certainly lower than DD - she spent the whole time in my ribs which was NOT comfortable...

Anyways - hope everyone's going well and here's to a night without any leg cramps Smile

Skillbo · 03/10/2011 21:47

Wow - it's quiet on here... we must all be super busy (I'm not a thread killer, honest Smile)

Well, had my GD check and was told would only be a problem if I heard from them and as I have heard diddly squat am guessing that I am ok! We don't have a full length mirror at home so caught sight of myself around MIL's yesterday and was quite spooked by just how big I seem to be looking!

Anyways, hope everyones aches and pains are easing! I was advised to drink Indian Tonic Water for my leg cramps (apparently was very popular when Britain colonised India and the men there couldn't cope with the heat and got lots of cramps) - have to say though, without the gin in it, it is pretty hanging! So, think will just have to suffer on I think!

DD not really coping well with her bed after all - she seems to be sleeping on the floor more often than not but I suppose at least she's sleeping!

Anyways - hope all this silence means it is all going just swimmingly for you all and catch up soon Smile

hawthers · 04/10/2011 11:17

hello hello i keep meaning to pop in and say hi but then get distracted and forget - oh dear.

all ok up this end. quick question though - i had my 28 week bloods taken last week very shortly after i'd eaten two cakes - will this effect my blood sugar enought to distort any GD results? (had a rather stressful scan in the morning so needed some reward and wasn't expecting to have blood taken).

had my anti-D injection and wow i'd forgotten how much that hurts... am such a wimp

DS has been up 2 or 3 nights a week for the last month but no idea why. any thoughts anyone? it doesn't seem to be for any reason but he just wn't settle for up to 3 hours and then sleeps through again until the morning. am hoping its just that he is ready for his big bed which is nearly ready for him?

goodnightmoon · 04/10/2011 11:54

hello all, and thanks Skillbo for getting us bumped back up on the thread list! sorry your daughter is not taking to her bed. I'm sure she will eventually tire of the floor!

My aches and pain could definitely be worse (and probably will be!) but they are still pretty annoying. I finally saw a physio yesterday (15 weeks after request) and she made an adjustment to one of my hip bones but I went on to have a worse than ever night's sleep. It's just all this shooting pain down the sides of my thighs (plus some calf cramps, but those are more bearable) and it wakes me up. Not to complain unduly though because I am still walking a couple of miles a day and as long as I can do that I am pretty happy!

Hawthers - I wouldn't worry too much about the blood results and the effect of cake. I had mine last time around right after eating a bunch of Haribo and yet they came back low! I had mine taken too last week.

Sorry you're having trouble with your son settling - it doesn't seem to be anything particular? Mine usually is only getting me up these days for a wee, sometimes for a cuddle ("I'm scary." meaning I'm scared!) Felt sad last night because he asked to go "home" - to our old house we moved out of in August. :( I promised we could visit his little friends who lived next door on Friday - we only moved a couple of miles away and we still go back to the old neighbourhood all the time because it still has our nearest park and nice cafes, etc.

sevensevenseven · 04/10/2011 15:14

Sorry to those suffering with aches and pains. No problems to report here other than slight back pain. DS has torn a ligament in his foot so I'm carrying him everywhere at the moment!

I had my 28 week growth scan last week, everything seems to be fine. I'm now getting to the point where I was starting to show early signs of pre-eclampsia last time, but no swelling yet and my blood pressure is still low so fingers crossed. I've got my 30 week appointment next week, at that point last time but my blood pressure was higher than usual and there was protein in my urine.

hawthers · 04/10/2011 16:14

seven fingers crossed all goes ok - will be doing the counting down with you to 30 weeks as all was going tits up for me too at that point.

back ache (sciatica or sacro-iliac pain who knows) is currently with me. should really dig out that ball to sit on but just can't face walking up to the attic room to get it - must remember that laziness is making the back worse and i should really just go up the 10 stairs to go and get it!

sevensevenseven · 04/10/2011 17:38

Thanks hawthers, what worries me is that at the time my MW didn't look into it any further. I was showing the signs (high BP, protein, swelling) but I was only diagnosed when the hospital asked me to go in 5 weeks(!) later to repeat a blood test due to an 'abnormal result'.

If I show signs again I'm not sure whether I should wait, confront my MW or take myself straight to the ante-natal unit.

hawthers · 04/10/2011 17:56

Straight to EPU or MAU for you my dear - def overide your mw if you think she isn't taking your symptoms seriously. And that's an order!

hawthers · 04/10/2011 17:56

LaWeasel · 04/10/2011 18:07

sevensevenseven Good luck, hopefully it won't happen this time but I think I would be super paranoid in your position! Any sign of anything, I would ring MW to follow protocol and then definately bum down to hospital to be checked.

I'm 28weeks today so officially in the last trimester. It is nice to feel like we're finally getting there, but at the same time DD has just started at pre-school so I am waddling 4 miles a day very uncomfortably! So glad the heat has broken at least.

LaWeasel · 04/10/2011 18:09

I have skimmed a bit but my DD has also started doing a very odd thing - for the last month or so she has been much more reluctant to go to bed (getting up and having to be put back etc) but she is also waiting until we've left her and climbing into our bed and falling asleep there every night.

Obviously we put her back to bed when we go up to bed, but I'm not sure whether to try and block her from going into our room?

aethelfleda · 04/10/2011 19:43

Seven- if you get the feeling that your MW has not noticed possible pre-eclampsia, then you should be allowed to ring the local day assessment directly yourself for advice (number will e on your notes).. If you get protein in the dipstick (eg) the midwife will write it in your notes, and if you tell the day assessment girls something to the tune of "my hands are puffy and i've got protein in my wee- last time this happened I got pre-eclampsia", then they are highly likely to say just come up to be checked over (as they can't safely bounce that sort of thing without seeing you in person). Job done. This won't cause any comeback with the midwife, you can always say you felt ropy and that was why you rang in.

sevensevenseven · 04/10/2011 20:45

Thanks ladies, you've made me realise I was very naive last time, thankfully I was lucky.

Skillbo · 04/10/2011 21:47

Very interesting to see we're not the only ones with sleep issues - I think it's down to baby jealousy as well... DD has taken to demanding I do everything even when DH is in a far better position to do it such as lifting her in and out the bath! She knows there's a little one coming though and I think she is just struggling to come to terms a little - and doesn't really understand. I do think we told her too soon but hindsight is a wonderful thing Smile

LaWeasal - strange one as you don't want to disturb her sleeping and perhaps she just wants to feel close to you, it's kind of sweet in a way. But guess you also want to nip it in the bud before it becomes the routine.. no advise I'm afraid, I'd just be happy that she's sleeping!!

Hawthers - hope you've been up to the attic and got your ball, or at the very least sent someone to do it on your behalf.. sciatica is miserable - have you tried indian tonic water Smile

Seven - make sure you get yourself checked out the second you think there might be something up... I went in at about 23 weeks when I had that weird eye thing and even though the chances of it being anything serious was so slim, better safe than sorry in my mind. And if your MW isn't giving it the attention you think it deserves, get yourself to the local unit - they will never turn you away and with your history am sure they would make sure you were seen really quickly. Sorry, rant over!

Anyways - have a good one all x

hawthers · 05/10/2011 09:32

skillbo gah forgot the ball AGAIN and then asked DH twice within the space of 4 mins to get it for me tomorrow... oh dear pleasetell me my brains come back in 3 months time.... oh i've conveniently forgotten how sleep deprivation sends you loopy as well

sevensevenseven · 05/10/2011 20:56

Sorry to everyone having various sleep/behaviour issues with their other DCs. The only change in DS is that he's much more clingy to DH, although if he's still like it in December it'll be a good thing!

I'm very excited about going Christmas shopping tomorrow. My mum is having DS for the day so we can go and get it all done in one go without him being bored and needing a wee every half hour.
