No sign of any baby action. But since this is our first, I guess it's not unusual for the baby to be late. Been for a walk, am thinking curry for dinner and then maybe, you know, nudge-nudge wink-wink...

Hey ladies,

No baby here either...Sad 40+4 today..Had LOADS of very annoying BH last night, kept waking up and felt like I needed the loo from all the immense pressure. Not fun..

Got my first sweep this afternoon. Really hoping I'm favourable and that it gets things going. Though trying not to get my hopes up too much as I know sometimes they don't work!

Totoros- Hang in there, am sure it won't be long now!

COME ON BABIES!

TotorosOcarina · 04/05/2011 11:58

she said im not overdue, but their dates are wrong, am sick of explaaining myself to them and just wanted to cry.

was 1-2 cms last week, had pains constantly since, can't sleep, having show everyday.

I know if she would have done a sweep it would have helped!

ng1412 · 04/05/2011 12:48

I keep reading these posts in the hope that someone is having babies, I am not due until 15th May so not in the same position as most of you yet. Just keep thinking how long I have to go compared to some of you.

I haven't had any signs at all, occassional BHs but that's it...

Totoros, why would she not do a sweep for you? Because you are (allegedly) not overdue? But you had one last week when you weren't even due so how do they explain that logic??!!

Good luck Leila - let's hope your sweep does the trick.

Milkybrew · 04/05/2011 13:14

Hi ladies, just checking in to see if there's any news!

I am so tired today, so no cleaning other than the basics and no walking! Think my mucus plug may have started coming away! Spoke to a good friend this morning who's had 3 DC and she's convinced I've not got long to wait now-I hope she's right!

Totoros- sorry about the refusal to give you a sweep, so silly seeing as you've already had one!

Leila-hope your sweep does the trick!

yoey · 04/05/2011 15:13

I have just snapped at a nice lady putting a political party leaflet through the door (there's a sign asking for no leaflets)- it involved leaping out of the sofa to 'catch' her before she had even finished stuffing it through... no mean feat at the moment. Happily I stopped myself from throwing it back at her, managed to apologise and she was very sympathetic (despite her fear/shock) about being overdue and angry. I can't believe how embarrassing I have become. Now I've been suddenly upright the baby is playing banjo on my urethra as punishment and I've caused a violent bout of hiccups in there. I'll next try hoovering up the soil my keen-gardener DD walked into the house on her way to nursery. Am impatient for news on the sweeps!

HipHopOpotomus · 04/05/2011 15:51

I HAD A BABY!!! DD 2 arrived on may 2nd! Slow early labour over 24 hours or so, then had some stronger contractions so had hot bath. 5.30 am in bath, 9.15am DD2 was born do quite fast intense labour. Birth centre was full :( so
No water birth, so had baby in delivery suite on my back/side! So much for pools, balls, all fours etc. I was monitored whole time. DP was fab, very intuitive. Got on gas and air with TENS machine, closed my eyes and counted 3 2 1 relax over and over. Worked pretty well. Bit sore still, but no tears or other damage. Not bad for an "old" bird of 43 :). So happy I declined the induction on due date even under considerable pressure. Wasn't the birth I planned at all, but it was fine and baby is so so gorgeous and lovely.

Baby feeding well, milk coming on but tits hurt like hell. BF support visiting tomorrow.

So it does happen - these babies do come!!!!!! Hang in there, 321 relax and bring on the babies.

yoey · 04/05/2011 15:58

HipHop CONGRATULATIONS!! I will try to repeat your mantra 321relax if I ever get to birth this baby. I'm an old bird too so your story is especially heartening. Well done, very well done.

Milkybrew · 04/05/2011 16:03

Congratulations Hiphop! Best wishes to you and your family!

Enjoy your new DD!

There is hope for the rest of us yet!!!

cowboylover · 04/05/2011 16:45

HipHop: so pleased we have proof they do come out!
Best wishes and congratulations x

I agree ng1412 our date fells soooo long away I am trying to plan something for everyday to keep the time going. Nothing massive but something so I don't just sit at home obsessing over cramps or doing laps of the block!

HipHopOpotomus · 04/05/2011 16:59

Totoros when the MW booked me in for my sweeps (1st at 39 weeks - to avoid induction) she warned me that other MW's might question the booking as they didn't usually do it till 41 weeks so I should be prepared to argue my case with them at the time.

I took DD swimming on Saturday and spent lots of time bouncing, jumping & squatting in the pool - I think that helped start things off for me (who knows though really) - even if it didn't it was lovely to be in the pool feeling not PG, but light & bouncy. Good luck, keep the faith - it will be soon.

bringmesunshine2009 · 04/05/2011 17:25

Thank god! Congrats HipHop! Hope all is well with you and bubs. Was beginning to think all the early may babies were doomed to be 13 days over with inductions!

COME ON BABIES

Drs appt on Friday. Am going to refuse to leave until baby out at this point!

cowboylover · 04/05/2011 18:41

I am going swimming on Saturday hopefully; well I say swimming maybe just bobbing around!
Going to walk to the MW and vote tomorrow so should do some good.

Sunshine: that's what my SIL did! I think all her jumping up and down raising her blood pressure must have done something as her waters broke in the reception!

funnylittlekaty · 04/05/2011 18:44

Well done Hiphop! So they do come out eventually! I had mw this afternoon (am 40 + 3) and she wouldn't do a sweep either even though I asked her nicely! I've got an app at hospital on monday and they'll do it then, then I can choose to be induced on weds (41 +3) or have a scan and hang on for a few more days. I can still go to the birth centre until 42 weeks if I can get myself into labour. I'm so not sure what to do. I know I want to have the baby at the BC but wonder if by Monday I'll just be begging them to hook me up to everything just to get the little blighter out. Any words of advice? Really wish she'd done the sweep today, it seems so arbitrary where will do and where not. Humph.
PS The thread about induction on AIBU is really good and reassuring. Thanks for the heads up Yoey.
PPS Curry for dinner anyone??!!

LittleMilla · 04/05/2011 19:24

OK, quick update from me. Went at lunch for third sweep. Whilst I was there mentioned to MW that I have suspected that this baby is breech for a while now - based on hard lump up near my ribs and all movement being down below. Been told all along that it's the baby's bottom.

Anyway, she said that she wasn't convinced either way so we ought to scan and lo-and-behold, baby is breech. Cannot f-cking believe it.

Spent all afternoon at hospital getting eveyrthing sorted for c-section tomorrow AM. Too late to try and turn the baby. Pissed off, upset, disappointed and all of the other emotions that go with this turn of events. I know it's for the best, but I was pumped up to deliver this thing naturally!!

Anyway, by lunchtime tomorrow i'll have my baby. Which is a blessing.

Just re-packing hospital bag before DH and I go for our last supper. Will prob be in until Sat so it's so long for now - I don't have a whizzy smart phone.

Good luck guys. I will try and check in later...but I hope that you all get your bundles of joy very soon and the wait isn't too torturous. I'll be 40+10 by tomorrow - so I have put the hours in at least!

xx

TotorosOcarina · 04/05/2011 19:32

omg, good luck for tomorrow!!

at least he will be here safe and sound in less than 24 hours!

will be thinking of you!

:)

Milkybrew · 04/05/2011 19:33

Littlemilla-good luck for your c-section! Make sure you come back and let us know how it goes, hopefully by then a few more of us will have had our babies! How exciting that by this time tomorrow your little bundle will be here!

How's everyone else feeling this evening? I've had a curry for tea in hope that gets things moving as all the bouncing and walking appears futile!

Leilababyno1 · 04/05/2011 19:33

Congratulations HipHop!!!! That's fantastic news!

Well, had my 'attempted' sweep. MW was lovely but said that I'm not 'ripe' yet. 50% effaced, no dilation yet (but apparently MW said that's not uncommon with a first baby) but she is quite well engaged. She said she could just about touch her head and feel my waters...Confused

Sweep wasn't painful but that's probably because my cervix wasn't open, and I haven't had any cramping at all yet. So unfortunately, don't think It will be effective. Got another appointment for a sweep booked for this Friday.

Feeling a bit dissapointed but hopefully things will get going soon....Sad

yoey · 04/05/2011 19:41

Oh wow, LittleMilla. What words to say? At least you have little time to stew and you'll start your day with lots of energy for your baby. Please take it easy with the forthcoming wedding- it's ok not to go or to attend a bit of it! Thoughts are streaming your way.

It does seem odd, this difference in when sweeps will or won't be performed. It must be a protocol thing. I was offered one at 40+3 and will have one at 40+9 (am 40+5 today) then full-on induction at 40+12.

yoey · 04/05/2011 19:46

Thank you for the info Leila... 50% effaced is a good start and the position sounds good. You're on track. I'm pretty sure I'll have the same advice at my sweep- I have no indication of labour whatsoever and as this is my third pregnancy (and I'm old) my baby isn't even engaged yet and moves with ease around my uterus!

Eviepoo · 04/05/2011 20:58

Congratulations hiphop and good luck for tomorrow LittleMilla

cowboylover · 04/05/2011 21:35

Be thinking of your tomorrow LittleMilla I bet its been a real rollercoaster day but be great to have your baby tomorrow Smile

Will see what the MW says tomorrow about sweeps ect as we have not discussed it at all yet and to see if she is engaged at all yet as she was not yesterday but it feels 'different' today.

adventuremouse · 04/05/2011 23:55

This thread has made me feel so much less alone! I'm only 40+1 so I realise I'm not much overdue but I feel so upset that the baby isn't here yet! I've only been on maternity leave (from a job I absolutely love) for two days and I already feel so lonely during the day.

I'm seeing the mw tomorrow, might ask about when I can have a sweep. Can anybody tell me what this is like, does it hurt?

Hope everyone's baby's come soon, and congratulations to those who've had theirs.

Milkybrew · 05/05/2011 08:15

Morning everyone, I'm still here! Uncomfortable and feeling huge now but nothing going on! Clearly curry isn't going to do the trick, nor bouncing or walking miles! I guess she'll come when she's ready and not a moment before! 40+4 today.

Adventuremouse-thanks for joining us! Sorry you are feeling lonely, it's horrid this limbo, not knowing when labour will start! This thread is great for keeping your spirits up and talking through concerns though. Definitely ask your midwife about a sweep, it can be a little uncomfortable having it done, and it doesn't guarantee labour starting, but also gives an indication of how "ripe" things are!

Will be thinking of littlemilla today as she goes for her c-section.

Hope there's more baby news soon!

TotorosOcarina · 05/05/2011 09:00

Arghhhhhh!

DH just told me a woman at school who was due same time as me has a 3 week old baby! Envy

I think its really hit and miss with midwives doing sweeps, it seems to be their descision and some are happy to do them and some are really arsey about it.

I keep fluctuating madly between desperatly wanting him here and feeling immensly frustrated and fed up, to just being chilled and thinking its a few weeks at the most and he will arrve when ready.

Not sure which today is Grin feel pretty calm but the 'is he here yet' texts have started already and they do NOT help!!!

Hello adventuremouse, hope you feel better soon and baby appears!

Milky I'm a day behind you so can you please have the baby then mine (in theory) should come the next day, cheers Grin

Milkybrew · 05/05/2011 11:09

Hi totoros! I like your logic! Sadly I don't think it works like that, and I'm starting to feel like I'll be the last one left on this thread! There were 4 of us pregnant at school, I was 3rd in line with my due date-guess what?! I'm still pregnant and they've all had their babies so I can sympathise with you! I can't help feel a little frustrated as they come across the playground with their prams! And my poor DS looks so disappointed every time I collect him as it's me there and that means no baby again!

Back to bouncing on my ball I go ...
