I don't have a bump, I am just fat. Just tried on some of last summer's clothes and none fit - and I felt overweight last summer! feel really down about it. It's my own fault for putting on weight over the past year, not being careful and not exercising enough. I think I need to get into a really good walking regime now and also lots and lots of veg and brown rice and water and fruit and fruit/nuts for snacks. Don't want to have even more weight to lose after baby comes. :( anyone else struggling?

mopsy DH has agreed to let me join weight watchers/something similar when January comes around (hoping to take advantage of the 'new year' deals!), would having something like that to 'aim' towards help you feel less poo about the whole thing?
I hate how all the books/magazines suggest swimming, I look awful in a swimming costume without baby weight, I'd get harpooned if I launched myself into a pool now :(

I'm usually an 'undereater' (normally 1200-ish a day) and I'm really struggling with just how much food 2000cals is, feels like I'm constantly shoving food down my throat...and the days I don't hit 2000, feel like an awful m2b for 'starving' my womb squatter.

Feeling a bit more positive today, phoned Ultrasound dept. (they booked my 1st scan for July) and after questioning me over if I was sure my last period was March, they rebooked me in for next week! Faith in NHS restored :) And it's on a day DH is working a late shift so he doesn't have to take time off work!

mopsytop · 02/06/2011 15:31

Oh that's great Candy! yay! I have decided I just need to pull the finger out, get walking and eating really healthily, will be good for baby and will have added benefit of making me feel healthy even as I put on baby weight. I've found it hard past several weeks as exhausted most of the time, so hard to even get any work done, so it's hard to cook properly and not just snack, esp as I live apart from my husband during the week.

I will just make a little walking plan for myself and try and stick to it as well as cooking every night for lunch and dinner. I am hoping that next week (week 12) I will get a bit less tired and less sick - that's what everyone says! Also although I vomit some days mostly I just feel nauseous so it's not like I am losing anything due to that.

I'm so anxious about my scan I turned up on the wrong day..its Monday!. Was so disappointed & annoyed with myself I walked away crying....DP was very confused about the whole episode. Am normally lil miss super efficient. Most gutting thing is that he is away on Monday so I'll have to go on my own...aaargh! Desperately hoping for a cancellation on Saturday......I've had quite an easy pregnancy so far but since week 12 I've gone totally bananas.

ElleEW34 · 02/06/2011 22:28

Spoke too soon, symptoms back! Hello exhaustion, nausea and sore b@@bs. Thank goodness Britains Got Talent had some great acts tonight as it cheered my miserable face up and had me either laughing, applauding or cringing throughout.

Also watched 'Mums behaving badly' on bbc3 and feeling very saintly by comparison!

Friday tomorrow - hooorah!

kri5ty · 03/06/2011 08:18

Well i had my last (for this week at last) junk food last night!

I made my boyfriend pick up a chicken royale from burger king at 11pm on his way home from work... i have just not been able to get it out of my head for 3 days so had to have one lol

Will def have to start eating healthier... i went travelling over winter, and loved eating all the rice and veg... but when i come to do it now it tastes quite bland!!

Does anyone have ideas of a lunch to take to work? Ims ick of bread, and have no microwave, otherwise i would take jacket spuds!

Mmmmcheese · 03/06/2011 10:50

What about making a couscous/pasta/rice salad? Or greek salad with pitta bread? I'm making myself hungry now!

kri5ty · 03/06/2011 11:25

ooo good idea... my pregnancy brain is driving me mad haha, i dont know why i didnt think of that! I will have to find some nice dressings so they arent too plain...

Although i have just made a lovely roast peper with philadelphia and stuffed with cous cous mmm

leopardprintmum · 03/06/2011 14:14

Ive been loving those flat bread wraps, stuffed with avocado, pine nuts & salad...cheap, healthy & v tasty....have been uber healthy but had a crap day yesterday and found myself magnetically drawn to the pastry counter, bought 2 almond croissants & ate them in quick succession....delicious!!

CandyS · 03/06/2011 16:05

Anyone else have mates who have been less than sympathetic? I don't expect people to start fanning me & carrying me on their backs...just not get the arse with me when I say 'I'm sorry I have to cancel our plans, I feel like shit'.

Is everyone else sticking to the 'don't eat the bad for you for & no caffine' rules?
What are you missing, if anything?
Had my first every well done steak last night, wasn't impressed. I miss steaks that go 'Moo'. Grin

Mmmmcheese · 03/06/2011 16:44

I am eating less healthily than normal because i just need to eat what I can stomach! Which means no vegetables for some reason! Hopefully when my morning sickness goes I can eat more healthily again.

Am sticking to no caffeine though, not worth the MC worry IMO.

Not had to tell many friends as not made any plans to go out!

mopsytop · 03/06/2011 17:15

I am having one cup of coffee (when I can stomach it - and mainly only if I have a headache as a small amount of caffeine helps) OR 2 cups of tea a day at most. But that's it. I have been finding it hard to eat healthily but I am hoping that 2nd trimester I will be feeling much better, able to exercise more and spend more time cooking, rather than just getting home exhausted eating something quick and falling into bed!

Candy have just avoided steak as can't face well done. I prefer it practically raw like you! But apparently it is safe to eat so long as it has been well seared, as the bacteria are only on the outside. The NHS website says it's ok I think, or at least I read somewhere it was. Similarly apparently you can eat sashimi IF the fish was frozen first, as freezing it kills any of the worms/bugs.

Oh here we are (from NHS website):

"It is fine to eat whole cuts of beef and lamb such as steaks, cutlets and joints (but not rolled joints) rare, as long as the outside has been properly cooked." So a nice grilled rare steak is apparently ok - yay!

and also:

"It's fine to eat sushi and other dishes made with raw fish when you're pregnant as long as the fish used to make it has been frozen first. This is because occasionally fish contains small worms called parasites, which could make you ill. Freezing kills the worms and makes raw fish safe to eat.
Sushi sold in shops or restaurants, whether it's ready-made or made in the shop, should be fine to eat. This is because the raw fish the shop uses to make sushi must have been frozen at minus 20C for at least 24 hours.
If you make your own sushi at home, freeze the fish for at least 24 hours before using it.
Some raw fish used to make sushi, such as smoked salmon, doesn't need to be frozen before it's used. This is because smoking kills any worms in the fish."

It nearly feels wrong though as I thought for so long it wasn't allowed!

I am looking forward to telling people so that I don't have to make excuses about not drinking / weird eating requests! I'm finding there are lots of things I don't feel like (eg anything creamy, rich, fishy or spicy) as well as all the 'forbiddens', plus I don't want to eat after about 7pm so going for dinner at friends' houses is a minefield!

zambooloo · 04/06/2011 09:06

I know the feeling on the food front - I'm pretty much living on crumpets and laughing cow cheese triangles! Completely gone off fish and pretty much anything that has much flavour. I have to eat dinner ridiculously early (about 5.00) or the bloating turns into terrible nausea - although I haven't been sick so can't complain too much. I'll be 12 weeks on Monday so hoping to feel more normal soon.
Mopsy - good news on the steak front! The midwife I saw pretty much said no to all fish and rare meat. Strange that NHS website and NHS midwives tell you different things!

mopsytop · 04/06/2011 10:34

Yes it's kind of worrying. I actually went for a meal last night with my husband and had a steak but I erred on the side of caution and ordered it medium rare. It was still delicious! I felt guilty though even though I'd just read that on the NHS website! I don't think you should eat pork rare though which is perhaps why they just have a blanket advice. It's annoying though, there are enough things to worry/feel guilty about without midwives adding to the mix - I'd rather be given the true information and allowed to make my own decision. As a rational and sensible grown up I think I can be trusted to make my own decisions. It's like the guilt-giving about alcohol. I'm sorry but one glass of wine every two weeks or so is not going to have the slightest effect on my baby. I've had in the past 3 months 2 glasses of prosecco and half a pint of beer (in total!) but I think that if I choose to have a drink, it's not up to anyone to be giving me the guilt (the midwife strenuously advised me to avoid ALL alcohol and some of the pregnancy books I have been reading have actually been a bit militant about it). I hate being treated as though I were an idiot. Obviously drinking to excess or frequently is bad for your baby but a one glass once every two weeks or so (or in my case once a month on average) is totally fine and I hate the fact that they don't make that clear, just tell you NO alcohol or you're bad/irresponsible. Ridiculous! Does anyone else get annoyed by that sort of thing?

Sorry, rant over. I just get fed up with the hectoring tone, and the blanket ban on stuff, which is not based on any reality.

Grohlsgirl · 05/06/2011 10:54

Hi all, thought I'd join in now I've had my 12 wk scan, due on 12th December, but DP keeps saying it will arrive on my birthday (19th)!

Had hyperemesis so really struggled to enjoy pregnancy up til now, but seeing the scan changed all that and finally we are telling people and starting to buy stuff.

Anyone else struggling to know what to wear? Boobs have outgrown all my tops, usual trousers no longer fasten up but maternity wear is still waaaaay too big!

Also v frustrated that I feel so wiped out, wanted to start a bit of yoga and swimming, but no energy and have lost a stone :-( Baby doing fine though so that's cheered me up.

Hope everyone's having a chilled, vom free weekend xx

Grohlsgirl · 05/06/2011 10:56

PS I too have rebelled - been able to eat so little that when I do actually want something, I go for it - which last week involved a steak that was practically still breathing :)

Vive la Revolucion! he he!

littlestressy · 05/06/2011 16:59

I had my dating scan today, it was really weird and exciting all at the same time. Baby was wiggling like mad and they think I'm 12 weeks 3 days (instead of 11 weeks 4 days as I thought) Confused
They have put my due date at 15th December now instead of 21st!!!
A good friend who I just told has told me to get some bump bands, apparently you wear them over your (undone) trousers and they hold the trousers up and disguise open buttons/zips, bridge the gap until you're big enough for maternity clothes!!

figgygal · 05/06/2011 17:38

Have had a brill haul today went to see SIL and 2 yr old niece came home with a Moses basket, safety gate, bumbo seat and a mamas and papas car seat and isofix base. Know the history of car seat so no worries about using it. My parents r buying the pushchair when we want it and DHs parents buying the cot can't believe still have 6 months to go!!!!

CandyS · 05/06/2011 18:07

figgygal, excellent haul! Unfortunately we live in a flat with zero storage so we're not looking at getting stuff for ages...doesn't stop me looking though!

Hi Grohlsgirl! Congrats & welcome, named after the lovely David? I'm off to the the foo fighters in July, worried I'll miss most the gig as I'll be in the ladies!

Dh is on the way home from work, with a large fillet o'fish meal from McD's for me, how naughty!

Grohlsgirl · 05/06/2011 18:43

CandyS i'm going too, on the saturday, DP has found a fold-up "festival chair" for me in case i get too tired (in the presence of Grohl? As if!). Excited doesn't even come close! :o

I've seen the bump bands on topshop website, has anyone tried them yet? Wasn't sure if they would be for bigger bumps?

Just watched baby being born on BBC1, already seen it but makes me cry every time... (and wince slightly if i'm honest!)

kri5ty · 06/06/2011 08:07

Ooo im glad for the above posts... i likemy steaks medium.. and i was worrying i woudnt be able to have them, so its nice to know you are actually allowed them rare if they are seared properly!!

... Im thinking a lovely steak for dinner mmmm

I have just started to be able to stomach foods again, i had a lovely chicken breast last night, and this time last week the thought of it would have turned my stomach!

mopsytop · 06/06/2011 20:39

Welcome Grohlsgirl! Yay for hand-me-downs figgy - I am hoping to get stuff from my sister. Our house is teeny weeny and we have very little storage, so like candy going to have to try and keep to a minimum. I suppose it's good for saving money!

I haven't felt sick in a few days, fingers crossed very hard the nasty nausea is going to go away now.

Scan a week today - can't wait. I had a horrible dream last night where I had a miscarriage, guess I am pretty nervous about it. Hope it's all going to be okay.

How is everyone?

rattyratbag · 07/06/2011 06:04
