I have a pretty good idea about when I conceived and it doesn't match exactly to the EDD. I've refused induction at 40 weeks (next week) because of this- the MW was pretty surprised but respects my decision. I'll consider it if I go past 41 weeks.

SusieCoo · 18/05/2011 15:41

Hi, I'm a new and late arrival to the May babies board having only just finished work. I am due my 3rd baby on 29/5th, have DD aged 7 and DS aged 5. No signs yet but feeling shattered. Is anyone else planning a home birth for the first time? I have everything ready to go and all the plans in place but have suddenly started to worry it's the wrong choice. We live very near to our local hospital and really supportive midwife and low risk so in theory all should be ok. Think I'm probably just tired and emotional! Have enjoyed reading the posts and birth announcements although a bit embarrassing to be snivelling over them in the hairdressers!

cowboylover · 18/05/2011 21:52

Congratulations Clarabella! Sounds very dramatic but glad all worked out well and I'm sure the taxi will have worst but probably not in the morning Smile

I slept super well last night as well so no good on the full moon for me. Gutted really as DH is going back to work tomorrow so home alone and I know it's pathetic but I don't want to be! Will see what the MW says tomorrow if there's any progress!

growing can I have one of those please?!

soandsosmum I have not been booked for one but am expecting it to be discussed on Monday when I see the consultant. Head in the sand a bit I won't make it as far as the appointment but if I do I really am thinking about declining for a while longer and finding out more about what expectant management would involve. I am consultant lead so it won't make any difference to my birth location but I am really concerned about feeling trapped on my back with permanent monitoring ect.

I woke up last night and had what i thought were contractions, they felt like nothing else i'd experienced and they hurt. Every 20 minutes, and then they went after an hour and a half. And i've been left feeling a bit wierd all day today.

Maybe this is the beginning of something. Saw the consultant yesterday (having a VBAC) and they have booked me in for induction for 41.5 which is 3 weeks away. AGES. I hope it doesn't go on for that long.

Hope you are all well and giving birth easily.

kiwidreamer · 19/05/2011 14:54

I'm still here too, thought the sweep plus 45mins reflexology last night might have kicked things off but after a couple of hours of uncomfortable cramps all went quiet around 11pm and nothing since. So unless I think I can do 43wks it's a c section for moi in the morning, bye bye VBAC :-( I just don't think I can mentally/physically/emotionally stretch to a third week overdue. On the upside hopefully by this time tomorrow I'll be holding my baby girl and I really and truly won't care that she came out the escape hatch just like her big brother!!!

growing3rdbump · 19/05/2011 16:08

Susiecoo just wanted to say that I have experienced two wonderful homebirths - first one was with my 2nd child born 11th May 2007 at 8.36pm and I then had an almost identical repeat performance with 3rd baby (Esme) born 10th May 2011 at 9.25pm!!!

I remember feeling a little apprehensive before the first homebirth, but once things started happening I didn't give my worries a second thought. I was really well looked after by two midwifes and felt completely safe in their hands.

Esme's birth was fairly quick, but I had time to get to know them both and chat to them and they were constantly jumping up to rub my back during contractions or to listen in to baby's heart, which made me feel more comfortable and well looked after!

After the birth we all had a cup of tea and they tidied up everything, then one midwife went to the hospital to complete the paper work etc and the second stayed with us until I'd had a shower and settled in to bed.

I hope you manage a good homebirth experience too!

cowboylover · 19/05/2011 17:39

Labella I hope your LO arrives soon.

Kiwi Be thinking of you tomorrow if you dont have her overnight that you will be having cuddles really soon Grin I am nearly very Envy

Saw the MW today now im 40+4 we discussed having a sweep before and I said I would like it if she thought it would be favourable she could do it. She gave me an internal but said cervix is still high and closed so she said she would not do it as it would cause me a lot of discomfort and unlikley to be successful.

I do feel calmer as well about the induction process after she explained it and reassured me on the process. Exactly as Loopy said she has written on my notes about my wishes not to be constantly monitored. I see my consultant Monday and will then get an induction date if she has not arrived by then and I will ask for Wednesday if possible as my MW is on duty Smile

Hi all. Can't believe reading this that so many of us are overdue!! I am now 41 plus 2, had acupuncture 3 times and an unsuccessful sweep 2 days ago. Going back today for another go at sweep and if no luck then I'll be induced on Monday and it's goodbye waterbirth. I have tried everything but nothing's moving this little one. I am a complete emotional mess one minute and fine the next. This is my fourth so if that's a lesson in never trying to predict how a birth will be then there you have it! It really is a mindgame at this stage although I know he'll be here soon I'm now very scared as to how I'll manage the pain having had 3 waterbirths before. Lovely to hear about those who have arrived safe & sound. Congrats to you allxxx Next time I post on here there will be a new little chap in our family. Good luck fellow 42 weekers xx

cowboylover · 21/05/2011 21:35

Good luck for Monday, I know some hospitals depending on the induction method you can still use the pool so I hope it all works out well for you and look forward to your announcement soon.

Still waiting here and even less 'symptoms' that I had 2 weeks ago so think an induction is on the way for me and baby.

Up to my third sweep today! Can't blame a girl for trying. Met a woman at the Birth Centre who had just had a scan and decided to carry on & wait even tho she was 2 weeks over. What amazing reserves of strength she must have. If I feel like I'm getting anywhere tonight might hold off another day for induction as officially kicked out of the Birth Centre once they intervene. Where are all these babies? oh am just having a contraction!!! Bring it on :)

Bogeyface · 22/05/2011 08:54

Fingers crossed for you Titch :)

I am 39+5 and .....nothing's happening despite v painful BHs. Big fat naff all.

I still have the cervix of a first timer which the MW seems quite pleased about, I on the other hand am not, as I am the one who needs to get it 10cm thankyousoverymuch!

mojo1981 · 22/05/2011 23:20

Just wanted to jump on quickly and let you all know that my little baby girl was born on Thursday 12th May at 14:52 (was due 2nd may) weighing 9lb 1oz!!
Named Isla Victoria-May, endured 26 hours of labour to end up having a C section!! (she was back to back and head at an angle, no chance of her coming normally) Hence why not been on to announce yet as been pretty worn out!

Congratulations to anyone else who has had thier little ones, and good luck to those who have yet to pop, its tiring but its well worth it, but one tip for your labours......seriously.....go for diamorphine if its offered, brilliant stuff, don't remember feeling any pain, and seriously chilled me out lol.

Anyway, like i said, good luck/congrats, I really am loving being a mummy. :)

Labella77 · 23/05/2011 23:25

Well done you mojo, very jealous i've had nothing since yesterday, and have got a bit glum by it all.

dizzy77 · 24/05/2011 05:39

More congratulations to the new mums, and sympathy with those still waiting: wishing magnetic fields or star alignment :o so you get to meet you LOs soon...

James Alexander arrived just after midnight on Fri 20 May. Feel very lucky that whilst open with birth plan and adaptable to events (!), I pretty much got the best case labour I'd hoped for using water and gas & air for pain relief, about 4 hours from being admitted to hosp at 4cm, delivered on dry land and needed a couple of stitches so now a little tender, but touch wood recovering okay.

DS and I stayed in hosp for a couple of nights to establish feeding as he wasn't playing on day 1, I requested more support due to previous surgery. I'm hoping my milk came in overnight as I'm typing one handed with him across my lap having dropped off boob. Now off to spend a bit of time on the BF board until DH wakes up for his shift & I get some shut eye but can't wait to hear more from you...

Bogeyface · 24/05/2011 06:03

Congratulations Dizzy :)

I am officially 40 weeks today by scan dates, so we are in the final stretch, literally :o

Teasie · 24/05/2011 21:45

Congratulations Dizzy and Mojo!

pinkgirlythoughts · 28/05/2011 10:21

Congratulations to all the new mummies! My little man Frederick Benjamin finally arrived at 8.15 on May 23rd, at 41 weeks exactly, sharing a birthday with his auntie Chloe!

I'd gone to bed early on the 22nd as I'd been having aches and pains for a few hours and just couldn't get comfortable on the sofa. At 11.30, I stood up to go to the toilet, and felt a trickle of fluid down my leg, which I though was my waters breaking (turns out it wasn't, as they were still intact when we got to the hospital). From that moment on, my contractions suddenly kicked in at 5 minutes apart, and it was all a bit hectic getting to hospital! Although I'd planned for an active labour and water birth, I didn't end up going anywhere near the pool, as I arrived at hospital 3cm dilated, and all I wanted to do was lay on the bed curled up in a foetal position! Went to 5cm within an hour, and requested an epidural. Freddie was born with help from a ventouse, after a 9 hour labour. He's absolutely gorgeous :D

We had to stay in hospital for a few days, as the little man wouldn't feed- lazy bugger latched on fine but wouldn't suck! Back home at last on Friday evening, ready to start our new life as a family :)

Good luck to everyone still waiting, it really is the best feeling in the world when your baby finally arrives!

doireallywant3 · 28/05/2011 10:43

congrats everyone... we made it! my ds was born on 15th (2 days late). went into labour at home and he came so quickly... we didn't make it to hosp and he was born on the sofa.. fortunately, MW and ambulance guys were there. He's adorable... Edward is his name and he weighed 7lbs. he's feeding and sleeping so well and DD (20 months) seems to quite like him too.
My sister has just had her baby too.. 2 weeks overdue.. a baby boy delivered by c-section this morning after a slow 2 day labour. We're all thrilled!

titchinmytum · 29/05/2011 22:49

Hi all! Delighted to announce our perfect little boy Gabriel was born on Monday night 3 hours after i was given the first dose of prostaglandin gel. It was an amazing birth, my midwife & husband were fantastic & the last pushy bit (which lasted 11 minutes!) didn't really hurt at all just lots of pressure. I delivered him in the shower, so I nearly got my water birth! We are all mad about him and the first week at home has been yummy, my nipples hurt tho! Best of luck all still to go xxx It is so worth it on the other side:)) I thought I was going insane the last 2 weeks of being overdue. All forgotten when he popped out!

Labella77 · 01/06/2011 14:51

Well i'm still here, anyone else? maybe i need to jump ship to a June thread.
No signs what so ever. Had a sweep, nothing. induction next week :(

Bogeyface · 02/06/2011 06:50

My wee one arrived last night at 41+1, weighing 7lbs 15 oz and has no name as yet.

Got first contractions at 7am after my sweep on Tuesday, but she wasnt actually born until 9pm, so a 14 hour labour, almost twice as long as my previous longest one! She was stuck as she had the cord around her neck and was in a funny position so it was easily my worst labour, but I did manage it at home so the recovery was alot nicer as I was in my own bath then my own bed :)

She is currently wriggling in her pram as she has managed to get the hiccups and looks thoroughly shocked at each one, which is very sweet! We are making the most of the peace and quiet before the other kids are back home, the poor thing wont know whats hit her when they arrive :o

Good luck to the mummies still waiting, you time will come soon :) xxxxx

Justtrying · 02/06/2011 07:46

Congrats bogey, well done on your homebirth. My LO arrived on sunday at 41+2, i too had been resigned to induction but just avoided it. Have posted birth story on post natal thread.
labella sending you positive birthing vibes, the waiting is horrible. Sure you'll be cuddling your LO very soon, june is a fab month for a birthday.

cowboylover · 08/06/2011 21:14

Hello everyone if there's anyone still here?

Felicity arrived weighing 8Lb 10.5oz on May 28th (due 15th)
After a 4 day induction, full labour she got stuck (can relate to mojo!) Failed instrumental so had a c-section.
I have found the last few weeks hard but so gklad my DH has been here to help.

After a slow start with DD in SCBU she was out 4 days later and I started breastfeeding and both home 8 days later to enjoy the peace and bonding with her. Hope your all enjoying it.

Congratulations Cowboy! Also, congrats to all the new mums; hopefully everyone has had their beautiful babies by now! I am now officially out of the May club as my gorgeous daughter arrived two weeks over her due date on 5th June. The team at Kingston were absolutely amazing; I wouldn't hesitate recommending them and having my next baby there. I hope everyone is well :)

missemmajane · 17/06/2011 18:07

Just wanted to announce my arrival - Phoebe Mia arrived a week early on 16th May - all well and healthy. Had an amazing labour - didn't really feel too much pain but my waters had broken so went to hospital and was already 10 cm dialated and with three pushes she was out!! Amazing for a first baby and an overall wonderful experience - I think if I have any more ill have to opt for a home birth!! I was due to go to Rosie in Cambridge but they were full and I couldn't get in so they referred me to Lister in Stevenage and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them, they were brillant and the after care was superb!
Congratulations to all the May-June babies
Hope you are all loving being a Mummy as much as I am
