Definitely ask for the cot! OK so most of our stuff is borrowed, from freecycle or ebay so I'm that way inclined. As long as you give it a good clean and get a new mattress your sorted :)

Marabou · 16/04/2011 19:19

Wuuuhuuu, it was finally my last day at my main job today - I'm so relieved to now only have my part-time job left t continue with throughout maternity levae! Now I can concentrate on cleaning, cooking and finishing with the babyshopping - can't wait to finally meet him.

Oh anyone else freaked out about the still birth statistics in the news earlier this week?

JBrd · 16/04/2011 20:28

Marabou - yeah, me, freaked out big time. I was perfectly happy with baby having irregular-ish movement patterns that keep changing until then, but for 2-3 days I was very worried and imagining that baby wasn't moving as much as before. Feel better now that I've had some very firm and reassuring kicks, but I bet that midwives and hospitals had a lot of panicked women in their waiting rooms this week. I don't think that the way it was reported was right (but also don't know how it could've been handled better...).

We finally started painting the nursery, and man, painting sure is a lot harder when you're 9 months pregnant!

growing3rdbump · 17/04/2011 10:01

Pinkygirly - I share the same due date as you - didn't realise that was also Holly' due date!!! I'm also hoping for a Royal wedding baby...! My first baby was 2wks early and 2nd was 1 week early, so I am still optimistic! Need to make sure I get to 25th April for home birth and then really don't mind so long as it's quick!

That's great you will get a free cot - you could try talking to them about how your feel, but if you can wait I'd just do that. My poor baby wont even have a nursery as the other two children have the 2 spare bedrooms, so the cot wont go up for as long as I can keep little on in the moses basket!!! sure she won't mind too much though!

I've tried not to pay too much attention to the news about stillbirths - I feel quite happy baby is generally sleeping or having a wriggle in there and I can usually prod her awake if necessary! We have enough to worry about, without being made to worry more!

jbrd Well done with your painting - We really need to get our kitchen painted, but I soooo can't be bothered now. Totally exhausted from being on the go with two children all day, mowing lawns etc has worn me out enough - going to have to wait until I can climb ladders to do it (painting is NOT DH's strong point!).

cowboylover · 17/04/2011 22:49

Hello everyone!
Back from my weekend away and had a really nice time. Even got some sunshine at Lands End Smile

I think the baby must be a creature of habit already as I have really regular movement/discomfort patterns: 3pm lots of pushing feelings low down, 11pm stitch under my rib followed by strong back pain then 1am bump goes really hard and huge!

Also think I have been getting BH over the weekend, my whole tummy just goes really tight and bump totally changes shape when then ease off after a while. It makes me catch my breath sometimes and last night at the wedding it was hard as I kept getting some very nervous faces when I was trying to hide it.

I am due the 15th so cant believe Holly! DH is now keeping a very close eye on me. He works loads of hours so couldnt belive how much I have slowed down in the last 2 weeks since we last spent more than a few hours together so is now treating me like a Princess so hes keeping me from being a miserable monster at the moment.

harrygracejessica · 17/04/2011 23:56

I'm due 12th may but got my date last week and the twins will be here by the royal wedding!!! Not giving exact date cos we know it could change but Im actually hoping to be home to enjoy the 2nd bank holiday weekend aslong as nothing goes wrong :)

growing3rdbump · 18/04/2011 10:09

I get that a lot too cowboylover - I remember it from the previous pregnancies too, but think it's the baby bulging out in strange directions. It also makes me catch my breath and is quite uncomfortable until she relaxes her 'stretch'!! Happens mostly late at night and bump look highly amusing!!!

Having a slow morn and need to go and take kids out somewhere now...!!! Would rather sleep!

ng1412 · 18/04/2011 11:03

Hi all, not posted for a while but thought I would come on here for a general moan! I have about 3.5 weeks left and feeling so rough, my back ache which I have suffered from for some time took on new levels last night which meant I was up all night with that and also of course going to the loo.

I also have terrible leg cramp/pain in the back of my left leg which was unbearable last night too!

Cowboylover, I get similar movements but presumed it was just baby moving around, could be BH though. I don't really know what they feel like, so difficult to know eh? I am due 15th May too - am booked in for an induction on that date if baby hasn't appeared by then due to my age.

Anyone else feeling really rough and restless? I have definitely felt that this weekend, can't wait to meet my little one finally. I guess not long now!!!

Biggem · 18/04/2011 13:08

Hi Everyone!
Can you believe we're on the home straight now...people keep telling me that there is no wy I will go to term coz I am too mahoosive - you acn guarantee I will go over due now tho, sods law!

Has anyone written their 'Birth Preferences' yet? last Ante-natel class tonight so Iw thought I would have a stab but can't think of much apart from - Birthing Pool & no pethadine!

Also, TENS machines? has anyone used before or hired, a few 2nd timers in my class said they were a god send, I've had a quick search and found these two which seem MUCH cheaper than everywhere else:

cowboylover · 18/04/2011 14:56

Biggem When people ask I just say May now as getting the huge comments so dont want people to get my hopes up of going early! Smile

I have done my plan and as MW said just put whats important to you and if thats yours go with it. Also worth mentioning 3rd stage and if you want Baby to have Vit K.

I put on mine that even tho I am OLC I do not want to have my movements restricted by monitoring constantly so only when required. Also that I call my DH by his nickname so they dont think im crazy when im there.

OP posts:
LabMonkey · 18/04/2011 18:37

Hi, at our antenatal classes the MW suggested not being overly prescriptive on your birth plan as if you say absolutely no XXX then they cannot under any circumstances give you it if you change your mind. I guess the theory is that for first timers we have no real idea what it's going to be like and may be begging for an epidural or pethidine and they can't give us it if we've written on our birth plans that we never want them. She suggested writing that your first preferences are YYY but you may decide at the time to then opt for XXX. I guess it's just a case of leaving yourself an escape route as you've got no idea what it's going to be like.

I'm now very restless and I have 3 days left at work - roll on Friday then it's 2 weeks to EDD! I have crazy tightening bump for a couple of hours each day then nothing for ages. I wish everyone hadn't told me (parents etc) that I was bound to be early because now I'm getting really inpatient and I want to meet Ziggy (and lie of my front!).

clarabella18 · 18/04/2011 18:43

My bump keeps going lopsided. He shifts all his weight usually to my right and I get this really odd looking bump, I can almost see one of my own shoes when he does it!

On my last week at work
Although after having last week off on leave I'm questioning why the he'll I bothered to go back in for these last few days, would have been much better to just have started my mat leave when I finished the oter week. I was so tires when j got home I had to go for a wee lie down before dp and ds go in. Was only there 20 minutes and woke up in a puddle of drool! Oh the joys!

cowboylover · 20/04/2011 23:15

I kept my plan to the basics so it was not to restrictive and i could decide more of what i wanted at the time.

I went to the hospital and I am apparently having contractions but not dilating so they said as long as my waters don't break it's perfectly fine for it to go on like this for as long as it wants to! As soon as i get to 8 mins appart they stop again so it's all in the right direction! In a strange way I am feeling better than I have in ages. Smile

ng1412 · 21/04/2011 09:37

cowboylover it sounds as though things are moving in the right direction for you, how exciting!

Nothing happening here, went for physio yesterday and it was brilliant, got another session next week, can't wait. That is unless baby has other ideas!

Labmonkey everyone has told me I will be early too which doens't help does it?! Of course I hope they are right. Smile

Biggem · 21/04/2011 10:42

Arrrgghhh!!

Had my midwife appointment yesterday and they are 90% sure Jellybean is now breech!!
Seeing the consultant on the the 29th and then see what happens from there...not a happy Biggem.

Anyone else breech or had experience of them trying to turn the baby?

Marabou · 21/04/2011 11:15

cowboylover and ng1412, I'm also due on the 15th! Let's see who goes first, looks like it going to be you cowboylover :)!

So I finally bought a TENS machine from Amazon and I'm now waiting for it to arrive in the post. I bought this one, as I saw it was specifically meant for labour pains and was supposedly a NCT and NHS approved model:

www.amazon.co.uk/Bodyclock-Health-Care-Ltd-Femme/dp/B000A1QKG2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1303380417&sr=8-1

I'm planning to do the major baby shopping this weekend, as my lovely colleagues gave me a giftcard to Mothercare on my last day. We need to get quite a few things like a cot, mattress and a mobile. Can't believe we've left it this late, so typical.. Oh well, at least have a moses basket, loads of clothes and small things..

Oh, anyone planning to use Arnica tablets after birth? I just ordered these too and also some Arnica cream, as I heard it could help with swollen ankles and feet. I have a MW appointment today and will ask if she thinks it's safe to use during pregnancy.

Sorry to hear about your bubs sitting on his/her bum Biggem! Have you looked on this website?

www.spinningbabies.com/

It's got a lot of information and different positions to try. Hope it helps you!

Biggem · 21/04/2011 11:26

Thanks Marabou!!

Will have a read @ Lunch and hopefully will find something to help!

Good luck with the mothercare shopping - enjoy it! I love looking at all the stuff, its the only time I wish we found out the sex.

cowboylover · 21/04/2011 11:35

Marabou our antenatal classes with the NHS recommended we all get arnica tablets and start taking them before the birth but I can't remember how long before she said.

biggem my friend used that site and said it really helped so good luck x

Off to pick my pushchair and car seat later so im ready!

dizzy77 · 21/04/2011 14:18

Hi Marabou, someone in our NCT group (due 2 May, delivered on 10 April yikes!) had that model of tens machine and said it was a godsend. I'm wrestling with the rational, scientific me that thinks the benefit of Tens is mostly down to the illusion of being in control during labour, and the less rational, creative part that would value the illusion of being in control during labour! So for the sake of £40 less potential ebay-return am inclined to give it a try...

Apparently, when this early couple turned up at the hospital and were examined by the midwife they were complemented on their progress: "the ladies with Tens machines all seem to come in much further along". Hmmmm.

Bubandbump · 21/04/2011 14:47

Hi Biggem,

We are breech and have been all along - am 37+3 at the moment and having stupid battles with the hospital to try and get an ecv as soon as possible as the baby is on the big side but all the experienced consultants seem to be on holiday for the next week or so.. Argh!

The good news for you is that if it has moved recently it still has the room to move so you should use the spinning babies techniques and see if you would be comfortable with an ecv. I have been going to yoga and have a fab teacher who has loads of good positions to get breech babies to move and wiggling your hips as much as possible!

Dizzy one of our nct group is a physic and said that they do seem to work..worth a try!

Can't believe we're getting there... I feel like I have been pregnant for ever!

LabMonkey · 21/04/2011 17:05

I'm just home from my last day at work and I can't say I'm sad to be getting a rest. I'm 38 weeks tomorrow, I'm knackered and my feet and ankles look like they belong to an elephant! Tomorrow will be spent relaxing/collapsed in the garden - bliss!

clarabella18 · 21/04/2011 19:53

Labmonkey was my last day too today!

Felt great to finish, got lots of lovely gifts from my colleagues, a basket of sanctuary goodies, some bins and teddies for the baby, a wee bottle of something for me for after baba makes an appearance and a giftcard for mothercare!
Just need to figure out what I still need to buy, thunk I'm pretty much set for now so may just leave it till after he comes.

Have just under 4 weeks left to go am hoping to have a nice weekend with DP and DS a week to do the "nesting" stuff clean out te cupboards etc and a week to relax and then he can make an appearance any time he likes!

Starting to feel very real now!!

Hollie85 · 21/04/2011 21:04

Hi all
I'm 34+5 and am having terrible pain in my pelvis and groin...takes me about 4 goes to roll over at night and walking anywhere hurts although once i get going it seems to ease off. Can anyone recommend any positions or anything i can do to ease the discomfort??
I can't believe iv only 5 and a bit weeks to go...the time has flown by, especially since i finished work on 30th March.
Is anyone from the Midlands?
Hollie x

doodledee · 21/04/2011 21:14

Hi girls i was a may 8th girl but baby had other ideas and decided to appear 9th april - had to be induced very suddenly out of the blue due to pre-eclampsia. Had been a perfect pregnancy and felt well so still trying to get head round it. Was on HDU on delivery suite and baby had to spend a week on neonatal but we're home now and all is well. Feeling sad that i missed out on the last few weeks of pregnancy especially as this is my last one, miss my bump, regret not taking bump photo in last few weeks - something meant to do everyday, feel guilty i couldn't keep my baby inside me to grow and mature that last bit and all the invasive things she went through, missed out on that lovely first breastfeed after delivery and skin to skin so girls don't wish away thses last couple of weeks, try and cherish them and be proud that you can carry your baby to term x

4pudding · 22/04/2011 00:09

Hollie85 - sounds like SPD, just rest as much as you can and avoid sitting in the same position (especially on hard chairs). Keep your knees together when turning in bed or getting out of the car. If you google it there are lots of resources- usually resolves quite soon after birth x
