Today's the big day! Aaaannnddd.....nothing doing. Humph. Knew this was likely to happen but it's still like Christmas morning with no presents. No show or waters breaking or anything. Bit of period pain but I've been getting that quite a lot anyway. Going to have some pineapple and a curry and see if that gives him a clue. Good luck everyone! X
Ps birthday was lovely, thanks for the wishes xx

pinkgirlythoughts · 01/05/2011 10:31

Had a mad dash to the hospital on Friday night after a bit of 'special time' to try and get things moving- DP pulled out at the end and there was bright red, fresh blood everywhere. Slipped a pantyliner into my knickers (was all I happened to have in my bedside drawers), and by the time I'd walked to the bathroom it was soaked through. Had a big clot, which looking back, was probably my mucus plug, but was bright red because of all the other blood coming out of me, so I was pretty much hysterical by this point! We got to the hospital at about ten to eleven, got hooked up to various monitors and so on, and was eventually sent home at half one, as all of the bleeding had stopped, and I wasn't having any contractions. Apparently, they'd normally keep people in overnight if there was bleeding towards the end of pregnancy, but because they knew the 'reason' for my bleed, they were happy that everything was still ok. I don't think I'll be letting poor old DP anywhere near me until baby is born now!

clarabella18 · 02/05/2011 21:15

Ooh that sounds like it could have been quite scary girly

Well I think I am now finally ready and he can make an appearance whenever he likes! DP did his bit this weeken and got the Moses basket and boincer out the loft, the new living room carpet was laid, moved all the bedroom furniture round to make room and jad the blackout blind pit up.
Baby now has clothes to wear somewhere to sleep something to drink and drink from and somewhere to sit! Only thing I'm waiting on now is a phone call to say my prams delivered hopefully some time this week!

Thank god for bank holidays is all I can say!

mojo1981 · 03/05/2011 15:44

well i am now 40 +1 and fed up!! this baby was supposed to be here YESTERDAY!!! :(

My mum came up two weeks ago to stay with me just incase she came early which is fine but now she's as bored and fed up as me and she dare not go back home (200 miles away) incase baby changes her mind!

I'm already gettin the "haven't you had it" texts and phone calls, i've got no pains, so sign of anything apart from a bit of pressure. I have a date for a sweep on the 10th and induction date on the 14th but that just seems like weeks away!!

Whats more annoying is i am a very puntual person so the fact that i'm late with this baby is even more annoying! lol

My money is that she comes on the 6th, which was my origional date (worked out by my cycle etc) and obviously NOT the date from the dating scan!

Rant Over!!! lol :(

JBrd · 03/05/2011 16:46

mojo - I'm with you, I'm only 39+1 and getting really impatient! Which probably means that I'll go overdue, grrr! Trying all most of the things that are meant to help bringing on labour... I'm well and truly sick of raspberry leaf tea now.

I'm due on the 9th, but like you I'm now reverting back to putting my money on the 12th, which is the date I first calculated based on my cycle.

I had a reflexology treatment this morning, so lovely, the lady who did it is a midwife and said that being relaxed is the best thing to get labour started. Ah well, better go and give that a try Grin

Marabou · 04/05/2011 14:18

Hey all, thought I'd check in. Been busy with the bank holidays and getting everything together. Now just need to do the batch cooking and that's it.

Good to hear everyone's doing well, sorry for the overdue ladies though, but I'm sure we will all get there soon enough:)! I still have 11 days to go.. DH is actually even more impatient than I am, yesterday he asked me if they couldn't just induce me, bless him! Many of our friends and his brother's wife have recently given birth and all of them a few weeks or days early and I know it will just kill him if we go overdue :)...

Well, I'm on 4 cups of rasberry tea a day now and started the EPO yesterday. I'm taking 4/day orally and even tried to insert one in yesterday, but just couldn't get it that far and got quite a lot of leakage so decided to give that up.. DH eagerly offered to help but he's not getting anywhere near that area for the moment so that's that. Hopefully it'll have some effect anyway..

Biggem · 04/05/2011 14:20

Hey Ladies,

Just thought I would update everyone, had my ECV yesterday - it was agony, my little jellybean has engaged its little bum and after 25mins of trying there was no budging what so ever. So after much discussion we are booked in for a section on Friday 13th...eeekk.

Marabou · 04/05/2011 14:24

Good luck Biggem, I'm sure it'll all go well! X

cowboylover · 04/05/2011 16:04

Marabou: we are due the same day and my DH is convinced it will be late so they need to have a chat to each other and find some middle ground!
I have taking the caps of raspberry tea and EPO. Was thinking of trying in internal method but whimped out as was worried the discharge would make me paranoid or excited my waters where going.

Good luck Biggem! Really exciting for you so looking forward to hearing your announcement.

growing3rdbump · 04/05/2011 17:01

Cowboylover I plan to try the EPO internal method tonight... will let you know how it goes!!!

Just wish LO would show up now - DS's 4th birthday is next wed 11th May and I'm desperate not to spoil it Hmm. Have planned a birthday picnic in the park with friends for Sunday, which will require minimal effort from me and can be postponed if necessary, but finding it all really stressful!

First two were both early, but I have no idea what this one is planning...!

JBrd · 04/05/2011 18:23

I'm also thinking of starting the EPO internally...wanted to check with the midwife tomorrow first, though. Let me know how it goes, growing

I'm trying to be good and go for walks every day, but to be honest, it's really not very comfortable at all - my back starts hurting after 10 min and baby pushing down so much at the moment makes walking really difficult... But I am starting to have cabin fever a bit - probably due to getting new carpets/laminate yesterday and today, so couldn't go anywhere (I actually started cleaning windows today, argh!). All done now, so I can resume out-of-the-house activities, like meeting my NCT pals for coffee & cake Grin

Teasie · 04/05/2011 22:02

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I logged on and I'm glad we have a new thread- the last one was getting hard to navigate! I'm due on the 23rd and started maternity leave in time for Easter. Pregnancy, touch wood, has been quite nice and now I'm really looking forward to seeing our little baby! We started NCT classes last week and they're good- very nice people there and I think my husband is enjoying bonding with the other dads. We've also hired a doula and having 2nd meeting with her on Saturday- we're really pleased with her and she has given us lots of good advice. I wish everyone the best of luck and lots of happiness and health XX

mojo1981 · 05/05/2011 10:44

Hi guys, well i am now 40+3 and getting increasingly fed up!, I have asked to see the midwife today just to check everything is ok as my last appointment was last thursday and am not booked into see her until tues 10th to have a sweep but i hoping if i ask her to do it today she may oblige!

Really just fed up, and getting snappy and restless, i had geared myself up for the pain and am becoming gradually less and less prepared now despite the fact that its more likley to happen the further i get to my induction date! lol

At least if i have a sweep today i can mentally recharge myself again ready, i just want something to happen! lol

Keep your fingers crossed guys! :)

LabMonkey · 05/05/2011 15:05

Hey Ladies,

The bare facts are:

9pm Sunday - regular but manageable contractions
1am Monday - got the TENS machine going
3:30 am - Called hospital as contractions were between 2.5 and 4 min apart and last between 60 and 90s. Told to take 2 paracetamol and call back in an hour
4:30 am - Called hospital and they agreed for me to come in
8 am - Sent to another dept to see a doctor as baby not engaged
9:30 am - Sent home as no doctor was available to see me and the midwives who hadn't actually spoken to me decided that I wasn't in labour and that when I was actually in labour I would have to go to delivery unit as midwife led unit wouldn't take me as I was a risk! If I was still in pain the next morning I should call back. Oh and that I wasn't having contractions it was probably just the baby engaging!!!
10 am - called community midwife to understand what was going on and she said that the midwives wouldn't have needed to examine me as they could tell by how I was reacting if I was in labour!
11:30 am - DH called and told them I was coming back as I was rolling on the bed in agony and tears as the contractions were unbearable
12 noon - Was again told I wasn't in labour and was told that I should go home or be admitted but if I really wanted they could examine me. I basically went against what I wanted and said that I couldn't continue with the pain on only TENS so they agreed to examine me. A couple of prods later and the midwife was covered in my waters and it turned out that I was 5cm dilated!

After a couple of hours with the contractions not getting any closer together but still getting stronger and a couple more examinations (next time I'm selling tickets) it was agreed that the baby was "brow" presentation and that a vaginal birth was physically impossible. Suddenly after treating me like a hysterical idiot all day the hospital became an efficient machine and within about 30min my beautiful baby girl was born (19:27 to be precise)! Although I couldn't feel any pain I could feel them "rootling" around during the surgery and they had to warn me that they would have to "pull her out" as she was well and truly stuck. So it seems that my "non-contractions" were likely to have been my baby's head getting stuck causing her a lot of distress.

We have spent the last 3 days in hospital as she can root, I can produce milk but we just can't seem to get the two facts together and latch and feed. We're now on bottle feeding with the aim of only feeding expressed breast milk (using formula to top-up at the moment). It took a lot of tears and worry to get to this point but I figure that as long as she's getting the milk how she gets it is just a matter of pride and quite frankly that doesn't matter any more.

I was never convinced when people said you should demand to be examined but the midwife who sent us away - because none of the important doctors had enough time to talk to us - was horrible and I wish I'd made more of a stand. Having said that the other midwives throughout the whole thing were fabulous and for anyone due at the Rosie you're very lucky because everyone on Lady Mary Ward was fantastic and super supportive about the feeding issue.

Finally - I'm totally biased but she's gorgeous!!!

LabMonkey · 05/05/2011 15:05

Wow - sorry that was long! She's a wee stunner and I actually feel like she's been with us forever Grin

Biggem · 05/05/2011 15:24

Labmonkey
CONGRATS!!!! Sorry it turned out to be such a mission, but by the sounds of it your gorgeous new little girl was well worth it all...can I ask her name?

LabMonkey · 05/05/2011 15:42

She's called Eilidh (have had a number of pronunciation requests from DH's family!). Middle name - Ruth :)

ng1412 · 05/05/2011 16:53

Labmonkey - well done, congrats and phew what an ordeal. You are a trouper, and I am so pleased for you and your little girl (gorgeous name btw!)

Grin
clarabella18 · 05/05/2011 17:43

labmonkey huge congratulations and a beautiful name! Not a great experience by the sounds of it but I'm sure the end result is worth it. 19:27 is also the exact time my ds was born!

Well I'm at the mw tomorrow, am getting fed up of drinking raspberry leaf tea and I'm not happy that the sun has gone away, was kind of getting used to sitting in the garden for an hour or so with my book! However have just had a phone call to say my pram is in stock and I can go and pick it up tomorrow! Eek excited!

cowboylover · 05/05/2011 23:31

Congratulations Labmonkey that sounds hard so I bet its brilliant having your girl in your arms now Smile

clara Sounds fun, I can't wait to take ours out for a spin, if I didn't look like a loony with nothing in it! I am hoping the moses basket will come in tomorrow so we have it all then.

JBrd · 06/05/2011 08:04

Congratulations LabMonkey, that's wonderful! Sorry to hear that you got the brush-off treatment at first, that must have been so upsetting! I really don't understand how they can just do that without examining you! I'm sure the midwives have a lot of experience, but surely every woman is different in labour, so just looking at them and how they behave can't be that conclusive... (am slightly worried about that because I'll be giving birth at the Rosie, too!).

But you have your lovely little girl now, and that's all that counts!

dizzy77 · 06/05/2011 09:26

Congratulations Labmonkey! Well done, welcome Eilidh Ruth to the world x

Marabou · 06/05/2011 09:51

Well done and congratulations Labmonkey on your beautiful baby girl! That sounded like a struggle but I'm sure you're the happiest person on earth right now! x

Bogeyface · 06/05/2011 10:03

Congratulations Labmonkey :)

A word to the wise to anyone thinking that EPO will send them into labour...it wont! Be careful using them vaginally if you have lost your mucous plug or may be leaking waters as they can introduce infection. Semen is the best way to get prostoglandins up there, but sadly my DH wont go anywhere near me atm so no chance of me getting that particular "pessary" :o

RLT helps for when you are actually contracting but wont send you into labour either, both of these only make a difference if you are ready to go naturally. And do be careful not to OD on EPO orally as it has blood thinning properties so dont over do it as if you bleed heavily after birth it could cause problems.

As a veteran of 5 births and awaiting number six (EDD 24/05) I can tell you that babies come when they are ready and the vast majority (80% I believe) will be after the EDD. Thats not to say that I'm not v impatient! If someone told me that sitting on a mountainside with a potty on my head singing "Jingle Bells" would 100% put me into labour then i would be up Snowden like a rocket :o

Sorry to be a misery guts, but thought I should warn you!

LabMonkey · 06/05/2011 10:39

Jbrd please don't worry it was one midwife who was unhelpful the rest were amazing. All of the staff on Lady Mary Ward were fabulous and so so kind.
