Sorry to hear what happened to you Doodledee, but glad to hear all is well in the end! And thanks for reminding us to enjoy these last few weeks/days. It's true that it's easy to lose sight of the most important things when the going gets a bit tough..

Dizzy, hope the TENS will not "fool" me to stay home until it's too late to have an epidural :)!

Oh my arnica pills and gel arrived today and I tried the gel on my elephant feet and ankles and it actually seemed to bring the swelling down a little bit! I think I won't start to take the tablets until after the birth, but the gel was already a positive surprise..

dizzy77 · 24/04/2011 15:55

Thanks Marabou - the TENS mum was 6cm dilated on admission to hosp so hopefully plenty of time for epidural! I did buy a machine, I'm going to see how I get on - mindful that there is a point at which they start telling you you're too far gone but it seems to be a secret time!

Also re arnica pills, I was given some once before before surgery and advised to start taking them a week before the surgery date. They're homeopathic so don't contain a great deal of active ingredient, given none of us know when our surgery is likely IMO I don't think it will do masses of harm if you start taking them quite early... I am rubbish at remembering to take pills though: for folic acid relied on regular marmite intake!

BlueWellies · 26/04/2011 05:31

Hi all,

I've not been on for ages either, been on mat leave for 3 weeks now and loving it so much I've not had time to sit at my laptop! Great to be able to do all those things I wanted too and think about something other than work. Nearly ready (freezer filling, baby stuff bought and prepared, house getting in order-ish), except we're planning home birth and now have no curtains downstairs due to an over ambitious diy mini-project (house is coming to end of long year's renovations), and still no space clear to put the birthing pool! Plus loads of other things I want to do before he arrives.Wanted him to arrive early, but am now 38 weeks and thinking 'just hang on till after the next 4 day weekend so we can get a bit more sorted!'. I'm lucky, I still have lots of energy, though think this means DH particularly keeps forgetting I have a full term baby inside me. Keep thinking maybe I should slow down a bit, but there's so much I can do now that I won't be able to when he arrives!

Glad you're all still here, it's nice to read your familiar names and hear how you're doing. Doodledee, congratulations on your new baby, that's all that matters in the end! Can't believe the baby is actually arriving sometime in the next 4 weeks, and all being well we'll have a little boy and it won't just be us two any more!!!

LabMonkey · 26/04/2011 12:37

Whinge Alert...I'm officially on annual leave until the 3rd when my maternity leave kicks in but having been off work for 5 days I'm now bored. I'm 38+4 and shattered and feeling quite queasy and refluxy most of the time. I've been trying to do stuff every day so I'm not just slobbing around (although I got through 2/3 disks of season 1 of Buffy yesterday) but I'm just so bored. Since finishing work my feet and legs aren't so swollen which is great but I'm sad that DH ends up migrating to the spare room most nights as my hayfever and congestion are so bad that my warthog snoring makes it impossible for him to sleep. All the baby stuff is ready, the freezer is full and the house is as clean and tidy as it's ever likely to be. I've got some tomato plants to pot out tomorrow then I can get started on sewing BIL's wedding present but I'm trying to spread all of the jobs so that I can keep busy-ish every day.

Is anyone else this bored? I wish I hadn't listened to all those who said the baby would arrive early!

[buhmm] sorry just couldn't resist using a bunny!

dizzy77 · 26/04/2011 15:37

I'm just starting week 4 of mat leave (lucky - but first 3 wks were annual leave) and really couldn't be busier! Between AN classes, midwife meetings, swimming, visits from friends, various appointments (including beautician tomorrow for bik wax, eyelash tint and pedicure) plus getting baby stuff ready, I'm booked up every day for the next 2 weeks. I am wondering how I ever fitted in a full time job - pleased that I gave myself a theoretical 6wks off before LO appears.

Bluewellies I'm a bit like you: there have been lots of home renovations going on for months which have meant I haven't really been able to get started on a lot of the baby-specific preparations until these past few weeks anyway. Labmonkey I hear box sets are the way forward - I'm a big Mad Men fan and have been advised to invest in the first few series of the Sopranos and Westwing as handy for breastfeeding! People keep telling me to "enjoy the rest" but it is a bit boring if you're used to rushing around.

That said, I'm rather over being pregnant and lumbering round now, having visited the delivery suite at the hospital at the weekend I feel "ready" to go.

BlueHydrangea · 26/04/2011 17:36

Hi all I haven't been on for a while but glad to see we all seem to be coping and the first baby has arrived, congratulations doodledee!

Is anyone else now getting excited at the thought of meeting their LO? I can't wait to see what fidget looks like!

Still haven't been to see the delivery suite yet at the hospital, keep finding excuses but really must go this weekend. I'm ok with the thought of labour it's just once I get to hospital that I seem to be unsure about what is going to happen..... mainly because I don't want to be in labour in hospital for hours and be given an epidural.

Tinwe · 26/04/2011 18:28

Hi all! As I type this I'm nursing my gorgeous baby Hazel. She arrived 2 weeks early, starting with a very dramatic pop of my waters and a 4 hour labour! I'm still in shock but in a good way :) I disappeared off the thread a few weeks ago cos've my house move and no internet so I'm sorry I haven't been around much - so much for banking on getting everything together before she arrived! I'll join the born in April thread now, but just wanted to wish you all all the best for the birth and your new lives together. It's so very worth it (spoken by someone who hasn't even slept for a week)!

LabMonkey · 26/04/2011 18:34

Just had my 38 week MW appointment and it seems that Ziggy isn't remotely engaged which means that my fundal height is rocketing off the chart. The MW was lovely and said that's probably because he's still free and not moved south yet so seems unusual. I have to see her again next week to see if we need a growth scan. I'm going to sit on my giant bouncy ball religiously from now on!

cowboylover · 26/04/2011 23:30

Congratulations Tinwe Hazel is a gorgeous name! Good luck with your baby and glad its all worth it! Will keep reminding myself when I start to moan again Smile

LabMonkey I am exactly the same, head still totally free and looking online apparently it happens like that sometimes and head doesnt engage until in labour. Have you been measuring ok so far?

OP posts:
LabMonkey · 27/04/2011 08:31

Congratulations Tinwe!

Yep cowboy I've been measuring fine so far until yesterday when I suddenly rocketed upwards. Was sitting on my gym ball all evening yesterday - it's a good thing I've got all 7 series of Buffy to get through!

trixie123 · 27/04/2011 11:54

Congrats TINWE and lovely name. Labmonkey - enjoy series 7 - it all gets very dramatic! Are you Team Spike or Team Angel?

LabMonkey · 27/04/2011 12:59

I'll admit here trixie that I wouldn't say no to either although Spike's just turned up and while Drusilla's around he's a bit too creepy/dodgy cockney for my liking. He definitely gets better in the later series! Angel may not have much to say but he's pretty to look at and reminds me of being 15 and totally in love with him Grin

clarabella18 · 27/04/2011 13:48

Aww congrats tinwe I'm very torn at the moment between wanting little one to make anappearance and giving me just a couple more weeks to enjoy my mat leave.

I'm off to make a start on packing my hospital bag shortly as I have been procrastinating about it for a while and I do only have 3 weeks to go! Not even sure I have everything I need to e honest, have been buying bits and pieces and shoving them in the drawer under the bed. Suppose I should go and see what's in there!

Are all you other ladies packed and ready to go?

JBrd · 27/04/2011 17:55

Yep, bag is packed and standing next to the door! I just have to remember to take out/put back the preg notes for the midwife appointments, I can see myself turning up at the hospital without them!

Saw MW this morning, baby is 3-2/5 engaged, so definitely heading in the right direction... If it just would stop rummaging around inside my pelvis! Or pushing down on my bladder! On the other hand, I can eat larger portions again Grin.
I get some sadistic pleasure out of people's reactions when baby is doing acrobatics on my pelvis, making me do a sharp intake of breath and going 'Uagh', while putting my hand on my bump Grin.

LabMonkey - I was thinking of getting the Buffy box set, I used to be a big fan... On the other hand, CSI New York is high on my list, as I never seem to manage to watch it in order on TV. What is on everbody else's To-Watch list? I also have quite a large number of DVDs that I've bought ages ago and then never got round watching.

Our house is a mess - lots of last minute decorating! Waiting for new carpets as well as laminate flooring (for the nursery), I really hope they arrive before baby! Still need to paint the skirting boards, although I'm thinking I might 'delegate' that to DH - I did the ones in the nursery and am not sure that it's such a good idea being 9.5 months pregnant!

mojo1981 · 27/04/2011 23:28

well i am now 39+2 and would like baby to make an appearence now, my mum has come up to stay (arried last wed) incase i started early and only way to fill the time seems to be shoppin and we are going to be broke if baby don't hurry up lol!

I am kinda tryin to walk this baby out, either shopping or walking the dogs lol !

Keep bumping into pregnant ladies that are X number of days overdue and its starting to stress me out that i may become one of them!

The "anything happening?" texts have already begun, my brothers first words on every phone call are "haven't you had it yet?" ( i have 3 brothers so is starting to get annoying)

I know that once i'm in labour and i'm in all that pain i will regret asking for it to happen but right now, i'm so fed up and so bored i really don't care lol !

ng1412 · 28/04/2011 12:05

Well I am 37+4 and am willing this baby out each day, but no success!

Had consultant appointment yesterday and was put on the monitor as had concerns about baby's movements. All was fine, was having some BHs apparently (I didn't know I was!) but the m/w said it could be a couple of weeks yet, nothing urgent is happening.

Sadly, my uncle died last week and I was/am hoping to attend his funeral, problem is it's 100 miles away. DH isn't sure we should go but I really want to say goodbye. The m/w said that it would be fine if I was in the same condition as I am in now, but who knows what next week will bring Confused

cowboylover · 28/04/2011 14:10

I love the reactions JBrd I went to a wedding 2 weeks ago and there where some very nervous faces when I was on the dance floor!

My DH works long shifts and nights so my Mum has started to come around and keep me company after he's gone to work as the 14 hours feels even longer now I'm not going out much.

Had a really vivid dream about giving birth last night which was mad as had so much detail and can remember all of it! Anyone else had this?

OP posts:
cowboylover · 28/04/2011 14:13

Sorry about your uncle ng1412 I hope you feel up to it next week or that you can find a way to say goodbye closer to home.

Hi everyone! Haven't been on for ages. Think i lost you in the ether. So....here's my update FWIW. Due on Sunday, lots of Braxton Hicks and low period type pain in my tum. Think I might have lost the mucus plug this morning. Yum. There was quite a lot of egg whitey sort of stuff when I wiped but no blood in it at all. Does that sound like it might be it? Sorry if TMI! 2 of the ladies from my NCT delivered early and I met their babies yesterday. Had a little cuddle and thought it might encourage Bingo to make a move but nowt so far. It's my 30th tomorrow though, so he can stay put for a day or two I think. How are the rest of you getting on? Soon we'll be into inductions and sweeps and all that gorgeous stuff. Keep your feet up ladies and enjoy the raspberry leaf tea and royal wedding tomorrow. Can't believe Will and Kate have nicked my 30th, however it does mean the entire nation gets a day off work. Finally, the recognition I deserve for my special day. Ha ha ha.
PS Keep thinking I should hire a TENS but know that it's a sure fire way of making the baby arrive before the damn machine so might do it from Saturday. I've been doing natal hypnotherapy so hoping that I won't need too much pain relief while I'm at home waiting for things to speed up enough to get me in the pool and on the gas and air. Famous last words?! x

LabMonkey · 28/04/2011 21:52

Hi Katy how's it going with the egg white - not being weird just trying to work out if I'm in the same situation.

Also Happy Birthday for tomorrow - it's nice that they gave you a bank holiday for your 30th Grin

JBrd · 29/04/2011 08:50

cowboy - yes to having very vivid birth-related dreams, they are horrible. Had one a few days ago, it was awful and I woke up all shakey and anxious. I guess it's all part of the experience, now that we're getting closer and closer, but TBH, I could do without that!

I bought Evening Primrose Oil yesterday - special offer at Holland & Barratt - and am now wondering when to start using it (and how...). Might wait until Monday, when I'm 39 weeks. I'm already drinking the raspberry leaf tea, now on 4 cups/day and am truly and thoroughly sick of it.
DH has suggested going for a curry this w/e Grin, he's just as impatient meeting our little one as I am!

cowboylover · 29/04/2011 13:00

Happy Birthday Katy! I hope your having a great birthday and are smiling as much as the new married couple, they really look like they are having a fantastic day.

Jbrd I am waiting to see if mine come true as it was so real; It was a Saturday and she had lots of hair and weighed 4.4kg and I dont know kg so when I woke up I looked at what that is and its 9lb 7oz Confused

What to do for the rest of the day now?

OP posts:
ng1412 · 29/04/2011 18:42

Hi all, nothing going on here, feel really rubbish now, am so tired and can't face doing anything, went for a long walk today and now crashed out on sofa. Think I am driving DH mad with my moaning and groaning all the time!

Thanks Cowboy, the funeral is on Friday (6th) so I am not sure whether to go or not, I am just tired at the mo but if there are any more twinges etc then I may have to miss it which will be so devastating for me.

JBird have you worked out what to do with the evening primrose oil? Smile

Any developments with anyone else?

ng1412 · 29/04/2011 18:49

Oh yes and I am off my food completely, had to force food down me yesterday...

Anyone else like this? I am hoping it's a sign, mind you I am hoping that about everything right now Grin

Come on baby, I don't mind you being two weeks early...

JBrd · 29/04/2011 21:17

Well, I've decided to start taking the EPO for a couple of days at a low-ish dose, then increase the dose next week. Will probably try taking the capsules vaginally when I reach my EDD (9th May), but want to speak to my midwife first before I do that...

Our small DIY project of painting skirting boards turned into a major one when DH took up the carpet on the stairs to see if he could fix some of the very creaky steps - only to discover that they were really really dodgy and starting to come apart! So he spent the whole day fixing them and making everything safe again. I hate the new-build houses, everything is just cheap and shoddy, grrrrr!
But what annoys me most is that I can now do next to nothing substantial around the house anymore... At least it feels that way. The highlights of my day today were baking a cake, walking to Morrisons and back to get stuff for dinner and dyeing some baby clothes (from boring pastel baby blue to vibrant green/yellow and red!).

Well, maybe we'll get the painting done tomorrow. Going to have a bath now, my back is really sore...
