Ooh ivy good luck!! Hope it continues and you're having lovely baby cuddles before morning!

PenguinsMummy · 08/04/2011 20:38

Whoop whoop Ivy!!!! Good luck!!!!

Had my pre-op appt today - DD is 3/5 engaged & I am waddling really badly. MW has recommended as much rest as possible so that I can try to reach ELCS without going into labour first as with my previous experiences I would have no chance of making it in time for a CS. Fingers crossed I hold out for another 5 days!!!!

Pink I think because items like pushchair and bed don't seem personal or specific in my head I'm coping with the thought of buying, whereas I'd love to buy a tiny babygro but daren't Hmm and what do we say about google? Gawd, time off and Internet are a bad combo. Yay for the Doppler fix! I hope you're feeling more like yourself soon
Moo your poor DD I hope she's feeling better soon, and you can then have a rest too. Did the physio help?
Owl [naive emoticon] can you not get a converter kit? I like the idea of a car seat attaching to a pushchair just in case for whatever reason
Loop yes you need to have that word. Poor thing he should cut you some slack and do more too!

thanks ladies :)

Owl you do make me Grin sounds like something I'd do! Better luck today

I'm worried we're rushing into a pushchair purchase, so we're going today to have a go at some just to see what we like in general. We live central and do a lot of walking so I think it'll be important

It all feels too early but orangebean keeps prodding me to remind me it's in there so I have to take heart from that :)

appleblossoms · 09/04/2011 09:04

orange I'm not sure you can actually get a cotbed with a dropside...it's the toss up, either a cotbed or a cot with a dropside. I liked having the cotbed as it takes up less room in his little room...but when we're away he sleeps quite happily in a single bed - i just put an extra duvet on the floor at first in case he rolled out (cotbeds are lower to the ground than a single bed!) Have fun looking at pushchairs....have you been to babyland, in williams cycles? They have lots of display...we didn't buy ours there, but have bought other things (like the car seat) and they are very friendly.

We're off looking at cribs today...we used the family one for DS (same one I was in!) but he very rarely slept in it as we ended up co-sleeping, so I've convinced DH we should get a bedside crib for the early months...very excited! Only 9 (ish) weeks until we get to use it...surely that can't be right. eek!!

I walked into a door handle the other day, and think I've bruised my bump....and every time the baby kicks in that particular spot it's really sore! serves me right for being a klutz!

Will be thinking of you today ivy, hope all is going well...

loops hope you get your lunch at the quay...sounds the perfect way to enjoy the sunshine.

How are you doing pinks? things feeling any calmer?

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 09/04/2011 15:14

still here........... :(

apple I have a cotbed with a dropside, but it's imported from europe.

Hola, having a fab weekend darn sarf... DH has moved out (mid week) and we are down here settling him in... sun is gorgeous and beach has been fab Grin Flat is fab... and looking forward to spending easter down here hoorah... Grin

not looking forward to the 4hr train back with DS tomorrow. Pens/iphone and books....wish me luck!! Loves trains so hoping we will be ok :) First class was only 8 quid more so a litle bit of luxury :)

Ivy yikes for the slow labour :( hope it speeds up on its own, and you start to contract regularly and avoid induction. Owl are you homebirthing then?

WOW everyone are starting to get organised... cots/prams... this time i have nowt to buy at all... maybe a crib.... and some fresh gros/vests/non blue blankets. Where do i start at home with no DH? Room needs decorating/loft needs emptying and everything needs organising and washing... oh dear.. flap on!!

Must go, one more afternoon with hubs then i am a single diffed parent living alone....

orange i get the big purchases.... but not the little ones...!!

Velvetcu · 09/04/2011 16:32

Ivy I hope it speeds up for you soon

owlbooty · 09/04/2011 16:51

Nix I am hoping for a homebirth, yes - people keep looking at me like I am mental but I used to do home visits in my previous job for mums who had had homebirths and the stories they had to tell - even those who had ended up coming into the hospital for whatever reason - were very positive and made me think it was what I wanted to do. My Mum managed all three of us without even gas and air so I'm hoping I get lucky with the genetics Grin

You go easy on the nesting, you'll put your back out (here speaks the voice of experience)

Went to look at prams with Mr Boots today. There's a humungous difference between the heaviest and the lightest ones. I rather like the Babystyle Oyster which folds down v.small and weighs nothing. It's also relatively cheap which is good although like all of them, once you add in all the bits and bobs and a carseat you're still looking at 500 squid. Gah.

Penguin damn right you should put your feet up! People should be waiting on you hand and foot at this stage; demand ice cream and non-alcoholic mojitos :)

PinkFondantFancy · 09/04/2011 17:44

ivy hope you're doing ok!

penguins keep your legs crossed! Just 4 more days to hang on! No Saturday night curry for you I think.... :)

orange fab news that orangebean is prodding you, that must be briliant!

apple how did crib shopping go?

nix glad you're having a nice weekend - lovely weather to be by the sea! Hope your train journey goes well! Is it Virgin? if so, they give you free food and drinks in first class, it's fab!

! Careful, owly 's got a stapler and she's not afraid to use it!

owly did you enjoy pram shopping? I haven't been properly, just had a google around when I should have been doing something more productive but ended up liking the Stokke Xplory. And then I saw the price Confused

Thanks for asking after me girls, cardiologist has signed off that my heart is fine which is fab news. Although over the monitoring cycle my heart rate went up as high as almost 140 bpm (!) on a few occasions - apparently that's fine but I don't recall doing any 100 metre sprints so maybe that explains why my chest feels funny!!!! The asthma inhaler seems to help a lot at night so combined with giving myself a talking to when I'm finding it hard to breathe, I'm doing a lot better thanks.

We went to look at bigger houses today, saw one that I really liked but can't decide how much of that is just emotional because they had a nursery and a bigger boys room, and a lovely veggie plot that is clearly the little boy's and it was all very sweet.... I think I'll take my mum to have a look next week for a more detached sensible opinion! Having said that, DH is v. sensible too and he liked it which I think is a good sign.

Ooooooh exciting news, although my bump isn't v. impressive yet, my belly button is becoming shallower!! Grin

apples thanks we had a look yesterday on your recommendation, they're really nice in there aren't they? I tried to explain the cot/cotbed/dropside scenario to dh yesterday but it seemed a bit much for him to take in. Did you see any cribs you liked? Poor bump being bruised, but no doubt well cushioned with a nice and comfy bean

Nix I hope you have a good train journey, 1st class...your bean is travelling in style already :) good list and organising, hopefully your dh can do a bit at the weekends

Pink I'm glad you're doing a bit better, and it's hopefully reassuring that your dr says it's all ok. Good plan about the house, you need an objective opinion especially when full of pg hormones! tis a wonderful feeling being poked by orangebean and brought me to reality of allowing a small about of optimism

Owl the Babystyle Oyster is similar to what I like the look of, as it has the underneath storage and can't help feeling I'll need it. Pink I've seen good reviews of the Stokke Xplory, it looks good too. There are 2nd hand ones here if you're ok with 2nd hand, which I'm considering

I like the look of the iCandy Apple but is tres pricey brand new. The Quinny Buzz is the one a friend is selling, all in for less than £300, which makes me wonder if we should go for it (despite poor reviews) and spend the money on other stuff for orangebean

what's everyone else looking at? this is a whole new world of thinking Confused Phew! sorry long rambling pram post!

We bought a crib! eek! Grin We ordered the Troll bedside crib from John Lewis, which should arrive "sometime in the next 5 working days"...nicely specific then Hmm but I'm still excited!

loopy I'm hoping to carry DS2 in a sling and have DS1 in the buggy when he needs it, and then put DS2 in the buggy when DS1 wants to walk....thus avoiding a double buggy. Most of my friends tell me I'm mad....but I used a sling alot with DS1, the only time I liked to have him in the pram/buggy was when I was going shopping and wanted something to put my bags on! Wink Tell me I'm being practical and sensible and to ignore the naysayers who reckon I'll be buying a double within a month...

Exciting news on the house front pink! I hope your mum agrees that it's a good buy.

Thinking of you ivy...

Enjoy the train ride nicks. Glad you've had a good weekend in the sun...hope the journey home is much simpler and easier than you anticipate. 1st class eh?! Grin enjoy!

ooh penguin keep those legs crossed! Perfect excuse to pull up a chair in the garden and be waited on for the whole weekend. Demand lots of ice-cold lemonade and magazines!

How's everyone else doing?

PenguinsMummy · 10/04/2011 18:53

Still here with legs crossed - so far so good!

We bought the whole Quinny ensemble for DD1. Still use maxicosi car seat & keep main pram in lounge for naps but have got light weight folding maclaren to take out. In hindsight although the whole travel system is a nice idea they are expensive, large & v heavy so wish I had just bought the maclaren & maxicosi seat to start with & def no travel system.

Did also buy the cheapest poss maclaren double when had DD2 - used it for about 6 mths so again if you can cope without - don't bother!

Both DD1&2 had dislocated hips so were in harnesses for several months from shortly after birth so slings were never really an option for me unfortunately. And chances are DD3 will be too but have borrowed a baby bjorn just in case!

Hi all just popping on with a comment on cotbeds!! They are great, but it's worth thinking about what you'd do if you have another child... We got a beautiful rather expensive cotbed for ds1... Who is still happily sleeping in it aged nearly 4... And so we have no bed for ds2 once he's out of te Moses basket (prob in about 2 weeks- eek) so would have been better getting a normal cot then bed so we had something for ds2 to go in!

Good luck with pram shopping - that was the nesting bit my dh enjoyed the most!

appleblossoms · 10/04/2011 20:39

Thanks loopy, I've got a ring sling that I used for DS and a new mei tai, which I can't wait to try out! I've also got a couple of wrap ones my sister gave me..but I didn't get on too well with them last time, was never able to tie them securely enough - hence the mei tai this time round!

clare that's the point we're at too...DS will be moved into a 'big boy' bed in what is now our spare room as soon as this little one is out of the crib, and the cotbed will return to its cot status....so we're not getting the full 4-5 years of use out of the cotbed, but has been very useful as a bed for the last year.

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 10/04/2011 21:28

penguin not long now! My didymos intruction booklet actually says that woven wraps are good for babies with hip problems...
also, I think I know the mclaren double you mean - we have one at work, and it's rubbish, especially for around here where you can't get anywhere without having to go up and down at least 3 big hills to get anywhere.

clareanna you are very right there, we have evicted DS from his beloved cotbed so we can use it for DC2, and put him in a toddler bed, which he is going to grow out of fairly soon and I actually wanted to avoid.. I saw an awesome cabin bed with slide for £60 at a Recycling Shop near us at the weekend, but DH wouldn't let me get it because DS won't be going into that for at least another year.
DH said to me a few days ago "you know, I'm still waiting for the proper nesting that you did last time, this time it was really rather tame". I don't know where he thinks I would get the energy to polish the walls with Pledge while running after a toddler.

Apple have you tried looking at youtube videos for wrapping instructions? there are some really good ones that explain how to make sure they are definitely wrapped securely. very useful.

Not much happening here now, I had some really strong contractions this morning, with pressure in my bottom and everything and almost feared baby was going to be born there and them. Massive show as well, but after about 5 contractions they stoppend and where never seen again... nothing since. Who knows what's going on, for all I know this baby isn't going to turn up any time soon, but my midwife called me earlier and told me she's going on call for me all week because she wants to deliver this baby if it kills her. :o no expectations there, then.
Been very spoiled today and had a lovely day with lots of rest.

Also been told I now have a vulval varicose vein. Hmm

OP posts:
PenguinsMummy · 11/04/2011 08:08

Might have a look at slings then. DD1's hips were quite severely displaced & physio wasn't keen on any type of pressure being put on them so we just followed that for DD2 as well.

All ok here although having a lot of pressure! It's my birthday today - 36 today. Had presents, cards & lots of singing this morning.

Ivy hope things keep progressing. My friend swears walking & going up & down stairs has brought on all 3 of her labours.

happy birthday, penguin :)
I'm too knackered and SPD is too painful to do too much walking, but I've just got over the impatience, baby will decide to break free when it wants to. let's hope labour just isn't so fast I won't get the pool filled in time!
