Hello there - Smile

This is a thread for anyone in the south Northamptonshire/north Oxfordshire area who may like to say hi, and give us any wisdom about the Horton and surounding maternity units.

I'm due early Oct, have not had any scan yet and am booking in with beards mill clinic. Going tmrow for bloods. My local hospital is the Horton, Banbury. Love to hear from you .....

OP posts:

apples82 · 22/06/2011 08:27

Aw, well done rightontime, I had an uncooperative LO for the 20 wk scan too. Still, it was lovely to be able to see him/her again Smile.

Thanks for the info on Bodicote, i'll look into that.

Em0212 · 29/06/2011 12:43

Thanks all who are giving feedback regarding the Horton - I'm in the centre of Banbury and haven't actually been given a choice?! Although I'm only 8 weeks - due 8th Feb with first, all very scary / exciting (after scan) stuff!!

AgBag · 01/07/2011 11:26

Hi Em, I think we can also go to Oxford. I've also heard of people going to a birthing centre somewhere around here... can't remember the name of it. I'm planning on sticking with the Horton though. I've heard some good reports about it. When you meet a midwife I think they should discuss the options with you.

I'm 24 weeks, with my first, due 18th October.

Hope you enjoy your first trimester!

apples82 · 04/07/2011 10:34

Morning all,

Has anyone had a tour of the Horton yet?

They told me they do them on Saturday mornings and you have to book in for them, just haven't got around to it yet.

Has anyone had a look around and if so, what did you think?

AgBag · 04/07/2011 10:50

Hi Apples,
I've booked onto a tour, but its not until September! So quite a while away! I think its the NHS antinatal class and then the tour tagged on.

How are you doing? I'm feeling massive now and feel like I'm waddling. The sickness has virtually gone so am managing to function almost normally which is great.

Hope you are well and enjoying your pregnancy x

apples82 · 04/07/2011 11:31

Hi AgBag,

I'm doing good thanks, I too have my moments of waddling. Hauling myself up from bed or getting out of the bath isn't very dignified, and it's only gonna get worse!

I found i'm starting to get tired again, DH ordered me to bed yesterday instead of going out as I was dead on my feet. I guess as the third trimester approaches things will start to take their toll.

Great news that the sickness has stopped for you, I replied to a post of yours the other day asking about it, but it got scrambled in mumsnet/internet ether and didn't appear.

We've booked in for antenatal classes locally in Buckingham which start in mid August. I've got to book onto the Horton class still and tour, might even be the same one as you as our dates are so close!

AgBag · 04/07/2011 12:11

Hi, glad to hear you are doing well. I'm also tired, but still a hundred times better than the first trimester!

We've also booked onto NCT classes, here in Banbury. They are still a way off though. I think they start in September... I'd better check the dates actually!

Yes - might well meet you at the Horton tour - or perhaps in adjacent beds/rooms while we're screaming our heads off!

apples82 · 04/07/2011 12:18

Ha ha, yeah, I have a feeling we won't be updating mumsnet at that point!!! Grin

Princesskittykins · 11/07/2011 17:35

I havent posted for awhile but everything is going well - nearly 17 weeks with nothing to report other than some serious back/hip issues. Keep getting twinges which make my laft leg give way - not the best.

Ive been looking at antenatal exercise classes but cant seem to find any aqua aerobic onces, does anyone know of any in the local area?

AgBag · 13/07/2011 15:01

Hi Princess, I'm 26 weeks now and approx two weeks ago started getting bad hip pain. Particularly when turning in bed, bending to get dressed and when walking. The midwife told me it was Pelvic Girdle Pain and has referred me to a physiotherapist. It sounds like you have something similar. The NHS appointment I have got is weeks away and its a group back class. So I did some research and yesterday saw a private physiotherapist who specialises in pregnancy related aches and pains. I'd really recommend you see her. Her name is Lucy Walmsley, shes at Stow Physiotherapy Services, (Bourton on the water, approx 30min drive from Banbury). Worth the trip as shes an expert. She charges £40 per session. From what I hear about Pelvic Girdle Pain, it is very treatable as long as you address it straight away. If you leave it, it can cause lots of problems So if you are sore, don't ignore it. If you google the Pelvic Partnership theres heaps of info on there. They say that before its treated you should avoid exercise and anything requiring you to open your legs! So joining an exercise class might be a bad idea for you until you've seen a professional physio who can advise you.

I also couldnt find any aquanatal classes locally. But there is a Fit to Be Mum class at Spiceball Leisure Centre. And I think there are also classes at Akanksha wellbeing (or something like that).

Hope you feel better soon!

apples82 · 18/07/2011 08:19

Morning all,

I don't know about you, but I have now hit the 'tired' wall, I can't seem to sleep enough!

I am 27 weeks today, and yesterday it is exactly three months to my due date.

I'm going to need to start bringing a camp bed into work Grin

AgBag · 18/07/2011 11:13

Only three months to go ! So exciting!

I'm not finding the tiredness too bad. But I am fortunate that I can sleep a lot as I work from home. I'm finding the aches and pains the worst at the moment, I can't even walk properly! I've got pelvic girdle pain and am seeing a physio, but its a hundred times better than the hyperemesis sickness I had for the first 4 months.
When are you planning on starting maternity leave? Hope you manage to get some early nights and don't get too exhausted x

enirra · 18/07/2011 12:02

Hi all,

I'd like to join the group - I'm due on the 26th of October with my first and planning a homebirth, with Horton as a second choice.

AgBag - the birthing centre is in Chipping Norton, I heard good things about it, the only downside is that they can only deal with 2 women labouring at the same time, if you turn up as the 3rd they send you to Horton or JR.

apples82 · 18/07/2011 15:47

Welcome enirra Smile

Hey AgBag, I managed to have a three hour nap on both Saturday and Sunday, plus full nights sleeps, so I am definately racking up the hours in bed.

Sorry to hear that you're still suffering with pelvic girdle pain. So far I think i'm doing ok, just sometimes move too much against the bump and hurts, have to remember i'm pregnant!

AgBag · 18/07/2011 15:59

Hi Enirra. I think I'm going to stick with the Horton.

Apples - you're certainly having massive naps!

Rest well!

AnnaKW · 22/03/2012 12:42

I live in Banbury and have just found out I am pregnant with my first baby!!! Am 5 weeks and baby is due 23rd November.

I would love a water birth, there is a birthing pool at the Horton; although only one so if someone else beats you to it, you've had it!

I'm really interested in hypno-birthing; have read a lot about it and there's a midwive in Chippy who does classes. My hubby is a real worrier so I think it will help me plus I would like to try with as little drugs as possible.

I think we will choose the Horton, we are only a few minutes away and I work there, although in another dept.

For those interested, there is an aquafit class at Bloxham School on Wednesday evenings and Nicki the instructor has pregnant women there.

JaneB2012 · 04/04/2012 16:11

Hi Anna! I'm in Banbury too! Am due on 24th November 2012! Am close to the Horton too so will probably go there, birthing pool sounds good but think i'll just need to go with the flow (so to speak)! Have you looked anymore into the aquafit classes or the hypno-birthing? Both sound very interesting! Let us know if you've found anymore out :)

Pipsqueak1 · 21/10/2012 21:47

Hi all! I'm due for my anomaly scan on Tuesday, we are going to the Horton in Banbury and just wondered if anyone has been? Do they tell you the sex of baby?

OhGood · 22/10/2012 11:11

Hey all pregnant ladies (i am not, but had DD at horton.)

Pool room at the Horton is amazing - highly recommend it.
I found care in labour fine, but post-natal was just OK, and I personally got poor advice and very little help breastfeeding.
I would have liked better advice from MW while I was labouring (baby was badly positioned, which no-one explained to me) - also a couple of other niggles.
Anaesthetist got to me very fast (even if you are planning a lavendar oil sneeze birth, you might find this info reassuring...)

Also, FYI the Chipping Norton MLU has just closed for live births with immediate effect - will be a 3-month investigation. Such a shame as the Chippy was absolutely brilliant. I really hope that they get it sorted.

yogabee · 05/11/2012 09:26

Hi. To those who may be interested I'm starting some pregnancy and mum&baby yoga classes in Banbury/Chippy&M.Cheney. More details are on the MumsNet listings pages. Good luck with scans, etc.
