Hello there - Smile

This is a thread for anyone in the south Northamptonshire/north Oxfordshire area who may like to say hi, and give us any wisdom about the Horton and surounding maternity units.

I'm due early Oct, have not had any scan yet and am booking in with beards mill clinic. Going tmrow for bloods. My local hospital is the Horton, Banbury. Love to hear from you .....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AgBag · 08/04/2011 10:46

It has been brought forward by two days, so I'm now due 18th October! Can't wait!

apples82 · 08/04/2011 11:09

Ooh, you're a day behind me AgBag!!! Grin

AgBag · 12/04/2011 09:57

Hows your morning sickness doing? I'm 13 weeks today, and its still relentless!

apples82 · 12/04/2011 10:42

My ms has generally subsided now, i'm 13+1.

I still get a little tired but nothing like before.

And I am definately expanding. I went to put on a belt over the wkend that i'm usually two notches from the end, I couldn't even do it up! Oh the shame! Blush

AgBag · 13/04/2011 16:12

haha... I'm feeling big too... I really need to buy some maternity trousers.. eek.

I was in Cambridge yesterday, I thought the big town would sell heaps of maternity stuff. Neither H&M or Zara stocked their maternity range and Top Shop only had about 3 items. I was gutted! After traipsing around those shops I was knackered and gave up! I've not tried the shops in Banbury yet, but am not particularly hopeful. Don't suppose you've had any experience of maternity wear shopping in Banbury and have any recommendations? I guess I'll buy on line. I did manage to get to Bravissimo though and get some comfortable bras which is a great relief. I've already gone up 3 sizes which is rather depressing!

I'm very jealous that your ms has subsided!

apples82 · 14/04/2011 08:24

I'm having a nightmare with maternity wear too. I've so far bought a pair of jeans from Seraphine which i've had to return as they were far too tight on the legs.

I've bought two pairs of trousers, 1 formal, 1 cargo from asos which i've had to return. The formal were a shiny monstrosity, and the cargo were perfect on the leg, but have stretchy waist (perfect) but with two buttons that you do up. I couldn't even do these up over my 13 wk tummy, they cut right in the middle of my tummy. How these are expected to be maternity I have no idea, if they can't take my fairly regular shape then we're screwed.

So everything has been returned, and so far the only things maternity i've bought has been some tops via new look online. I've resorted to buying trouser expanders from ebay (about £2) which basically look like an elastic band with a button on the end that you hook over your original button and feed their button into button hole.

I do really want to find a comfortable decent pair of maternity jeans though. I think Next do good ones i've heard. But i'm sick of returning stuff. I'd like to try them on in the shop, but like you say, the stores tend to only sell their maternity range online. I think only DP sell some maternity in their stores.

AgBag · 14/04/2011 11:27

I think we must be at an awkward stage, not quite big enough yet, but still too big for normal clothes. I've just ordered a heap of stuff on asos, hopefully some of it will be worth keeping. I'm fortunate that I work from home and can live in my PJs if I want to. I imagine trying to find work wear would be hard!

The trouser expander is a good idea. I guess a hair band could do the same job - just not quite as neatly. I might investigate DP and Next. Thanks for the tips and good luck with your hunt too!

apples82 · 14/04/2011 11:59

Ha, AgBag i'm already using hairbands Grin

Yeah Next especially look to have some nice bits, but like everything with maternity, they seem to cost more. Mustn't grumble, it is how it is.

I'm lucky at my work that it is fairly casual, certainly not formal. Me and my boss tend to wear black jeans with a smartish top. I'd hate to be having to find maternity suits etc!

Good luck with your shopping. Let me know what you find out!

AgBag · 18/04/2011 13:38

Still haven't found anything very useful to report I'm afraid! The asos delivery was ok for tops but I was less impressed with the bottoms. I'm going to head to a 'big city' for a Gap when I'm feeling up to it.

I went to try on some dresses I have for a wedding next weekend, I was mortified to find that my stomach wasn't a problem but my boobs look hideous and wouldn't fit! I've already gone up 3 sizes to a 32G. I hadn't realised how big they were until attempting to wear a dress. So depressing, I hope they don't get too much bigger :(

Have you reached the 'glow' stage yet? I'm still terribly sick and unable to function normally - haven't worked for weeks! Please please come soon 'glow'!

Princesskittykins · 18/04/2011 14:04

Hi everyone, hope you dont mind me joining in...I have just found out that I am 3 weeks gone and starting to realise just how little I know!

I am in Hanwell Fields in Banbury and most likely to be due late Dec/early Jan. Have just booked my "booking in" appointment with the midwife at west bar surgery.

AgBag · 19/04/2011 11:11

Hi Princesskittykins, Welcome! I know very little too... this is my first pregnancy. I'm 29. Due 18th October.

My advice to you.... do as much as you can over the next couple of weeks before the morning sickness and exhaustion kicks in! By week 5 I was virtually housebound and still am at 14 weeks! Hopefully you'll be a lucky one that doesn't suffer.

Enjoy your first weeks of pregnancy! x

apples82 · 19/04/2011 11:34

Hi princesskittykins, congratulations! I agree with AgBag, take things very easy as from week 5 I found it really tough. When you're body is telling you that you need to sleep, SLEEP. I didn't nap enough and got myself into a right pickle.

AgBag sorry to hear that you're still suffering. I'm a day ahead of you at 14+1, due on the 17th. I'm still getting really tired, and finding that i'm not able to eat so much, which for me is a first! I guess things inside are getting a little squished. I've started having...not cramping...but uncomfortableness in my lower tummy. I put it down to the stretching which is now happening with all the shifting going on.

apples82 · 25/04/2011 15:47

Hey all,

Sorry i've been quiet over the past week, we've been down in Cornwall on holiday.

I'm now 15 weeks and boy am I showing now. It seems overnight my belly is protruding more and more, it's crazy.

We've just told all our family too, they couldn't believe that we've kept it secret for 15 weeks from them all. All of them are very happy though.

How is everyone doing on here???

AgBag · 26/04/2011 12:40

Hi, I'm 15 weeks today and my tummy feels massive too!

My sickness has been a lot worse recently and have had to cancel a holiday :-(
Am now on anti-sickness medication but am still vomiting at least 4 times a day. REALLY fed up now.

Must have been lovely for you to tell everyone your news. I couldn't wait and told close family immediately and everyone else after the 12 week scan.

LaWeasel · 26/04/2011 12:50

Hi everyone - if you don't mind a little hijack - are any of you living just over the border in South Northants?

I am due in december and according to GPs not allowed a first appointment with MWs until 10 weeks... We just moved here and I have no idea what hospitals we'll be in catchment for?

AgBag · 27/04/2011 20:47

Hi LaWeasel, welcome! I'm in Banbury town and will be going to the Horton Hospital. I also had my first midwife appointment at 10weeks ish... I cant remember exactly now,, I have baby brain already!

I'm very new to the area so can't offer you much more info on other local hospitals I'm afraid... I think I head about some kind of birthing unit in chipping norton.... I might just be making that up... but have a vague recollection of hearing about it...

LaWeasel · 28/04/2011 10:03

Hi AgBag - thanks, Banbury is very close, so I guess that will be an option at least. I was getting a bit worried it would be oxford or milton keynes which are both a bit far away for comfort!

TanCam · 29/04/2011 08:28

il go first hehe
im due sept 14th. Having 20 week scan today at the Horton as i live in Banbury. really hope baby is well and hoping they can tell me the sex. If not il have to look into a genders can and hav no idea where to look! x

apples82 · 03/05/2011 09:48

Welcome LaWeasel and TanCam.

I'm now 16+1, and have just told my boss via a post it note stuck under his nose!

Oops!

AgBag · 03/05/2011 11:43

haha - what response did you get?! I'm 16 weeks today. STILL getting sick... but as I'm now 16 weeks its REALLY GOT TO stop soon!!!

Been getting a few more pulling pains below....
Occasionally I feel a flutter which I think could be the baby (I dont think its just wind!haha) Have you felt much yet?

apples82 · 03/05/2011 12:41

I'm the same as you AgBag, for about a week now i've been feeling little flutterings, little waves almost in my tummy. It's happened too much for me to think it is general tumminess. I usually get it if I sit still after i've eaten, then I notice it.

So far the response has been a quiet congratulations, we've yet to discuss it so I feel like i'm in a bit of limbo until we've actually discussed it.

I do hope you feel better, it really has to stop soon. Can you not get some tabs from the doc to stop the nausea etc?

AgBag · 03/05/2011 16:44

I've already got some medication from the doctor. I'm on the second type now. The first didn't do anything. The current ones I think are making me feel a bit better but I've still been sick 5 times so far today. Its dreadful. I've done no work since week 5! Anyway, I don't want to moan about it.

Your tummy flutterings MUST be the baby! Thats so exciting! x

skorpion · 04/05/2011 20:26

Hiya Everyone. Can I join in? Although can't promise to be very active.

I live in a village 4 miles from Banbury, pg with my second (20 weeks today), due 21 September. DD, 17 months, was born at the Horton. Wasn't planned, as I was midwife-led and supposed to deliver at Chipping Norton, but what can you do. Horton was absolutely fine and am going there for this one, too.

TanCam, how did the scan go? They tell you the gender, no problem, providing the baby cooperates. :)

AgBag, hope the sickness eases off soon.

apples82 · 05/05/2011 09:24

Welcome Skorpion! You are very welcome.

I had my 16 wk midwife appointment yesterday, the midwife played us the heartbeat which was nice and strong. All my tests came back fine which is good.

Just waiting for my consultant appointment next week to see if I need a stitch put in.

skorpion · 05/05/2011 09:39

Thanks Apples.

Maternity clothes - I bought a bundle on ebay last time and am using them again. Would definitely recommend ebay, both for maternity and baby clothes. Even if you don't use every single item, it still tends to be better value.
