Hello there - Smile

This is a thread for anyone in the south Northamptonshire/north Oxfordshire area who may like to say hi, and give us any wisdom about the Horton and surounding maternity units.

I'm due early Oct, have not had any scan yet and am booking in with beards mill clinic. Going tmrow for bloods. My local hospital is the Horton, Banbury. Love to hear from you .....

Diathermy loop is when...

I had a cervical smear come back abnormal. So had another done and they found pre-cancerous cells ie. not cancer, but could turn into. So, they basically go in, and biopsy a portion of your cervix, and by doing so they shorten the cervix.

This means in pregnancy that the more weight bearing down on the cervix, the less cervix there is to take the strain, so they say you wouldn't go beyond 37 wks.

My MW said that sometimes they'll pop a couple of stitches in to help take the load, but that even with that you're unlikely to go beyond 37 wks, because there isn't enough cervix to take the weight.

apples82 · 21/03/2011 09:45

I forgot to say, they cautorize the cells and then take the biopsy.I think the loop in the name is from the tool they use to cautorize the cells.

misty0 · 21/03/2011 14:27

Sorry to hear about all that apples, that must have been a nasty time for you. Fingers crossed for you for 37 weeks and beyond Smile

I had an abnormal smear about a year ago, and was called back for a re-call smear but never went. Good old head in the sand - but mainly i didn't want them fishing around in there while i was trying to conceive. There never seemed a good time - i bleed very badly at smears and it mucks my cycle up too.

So i've got that to look forward to after the birth .... nice.

Yeah I was due another smear in January, but didn't go because we were TTC, luckily we did conceive and lucky I didn't go!!! :-)

misty0 · 21/03/2011 14:56

Pretty extreme way to get out of smear tests but - hey, it works! lol x

Hi there, first post ever although been lurking for a while. I couldnt resist an Oxon/Bucks thread! Its great to hear there are lots of us due around the same time in the area.

We are due 11th september and live in a village a few miles north of Oxford. I think that makes me first on the list if thats ok?! Grin

We have DD 26 months so second time around for us and will be using the JR - we're abit far from the Horton although I have heard good things about both.

Planning on doing aquanatal in Bicester and probably antenatal pilates/ yoga in Summertown - did them first time round and could recommend them both!

apples82 · 21/03/2011 15:14

Hi sweetclarity, gload you've popped your MN cherry for the thread Smile.

You are very welcome to go straight to the top of the list- you can then tell us all how awful labour is Sad.

misty0 · 21/03/2011 15:15

Hi there seetclarity Grin congratulations! On baby AND your first post!

Hooray - you're first then lol

It is nice to have a link with other ladies in the area. I've just answered a thread from a lady living on a farm miles from anywhere and sugested she starts a thread like this one.

I'm planning to start swimming regulaly again (used to go three times a week) and i know it will do me SO much good - but i'm SO tired at the mo. Keep saying 'next week', definatly ... and then cant face it. Feeling a bit guilty and lazy but i cant help it! eek

Nice to have you aboard - xx

OP posts:
sweetclarity · 21/03/2011 15:28

Thanks for the welcome Smile

Labour...eek! Dont get me started - certainly something you'll never forget! Just enjoy the nice things about pregnancy and try not to think about it until you have to Wink

Ive been swimming regularly (same as you misty, 3x a week) up until recently but am so tired atm that I've stopped for now. But i do have good intentions of starting again once i start blooming (never actually experienced the 'pregnancy bloom' last time around but have to be optimistic!)

apples82 · 22/03/2011 09:46

Come on the 5th April, I want to know that i've got one in there!!!!! Confused

misty0 · 22/03/2011 11:43

My one's on the 5th of April too Apples! Yay! Mines not till 4.15pm - sigh. (i know i've has a sneeky peek already - but it could have disapeared! lol)

Sweetclarity - i thought i was getting 'the bloom' this time last week, but now i feel + look like s**t frankly! Sinus' are killing me and morning sickness is getting worse...

OP posts:
AgBag · 22/03/2011 12:18

haha 'the bloom', I really hope its real and not a myth. I'm feeling terrible with morning sickness - throughout the day. I'm looking forward to 'the bloom'!

Thanks DemonChild for the Akaksha class suggestion, it looks good. I'm so exhausted and nauseous the whole time at the moment so not sure I'd be up to a class. I'm praying that I'll feel more human soon and can join a class.

Hope everyone else is coping with the ms ok!

apples82 · 22/03/2011 12:34

Eurgh- MS is horrid agbag!

MistyO mine is at 9.10am, I can't wait as my DH banned me having a sneaky peek Sad.

misty0 · 23/03/2011 15:27

Just keeping us afloat ladies - there are plenty of days when theres nothing to say exept "ugh i FEEL pregnant today". Bit sicky, very bloated, very sleepy. And only a quarter of the way there..

I'm sure we'll all have something more interesting to say soon when the scans start .... (apples! make sure you tell us about it when you get home) xxx

OP posts:
apples82 · 23/03/2011 15:28

Yeah I will do, still two weeks to go Sad.

I'll be straight on the computer after though.

It's lovely on the October list hearing everyone get their scans, but I am SOOO jealous, I want a look inside too Smile.

misty0 · 23/03/2011 15:41

Would you not consider going for a 'viability' scan privately, apples?

That's the posh name for having a sneeky peek! lol OH could come along..

DOOFUS1 · 23/03/2011 20:20

Hi can I join in, I was at the Horton for my first, and now in early pregnancy due in November when my other babe hits 2. The Horton was brill, plus you don't have to worry about rush hour unlike oxford.
I live 5miles south of banburyand looking for other pregnancy buddies as all my friend are still on their firsts!
At the mo, sufferIng from afternoon sickness urrgh, hoping it will go soon!
Take carex

misty0 · 23/03/2011 20:50

Oooh hello!

Congratulations, welcome, and of course you can join in Grin cant promise you anything too riviting here as we're all early on in our pg's and awaiting scans, at the mo., just like you must be doofus.

However - any info on the Horton is always welcome, especialy good reviews. If you've got any moans or groans or general suffering or just random thoughts (I think that might be mainly me tho' Hmm) then they're welcome too xxx

Do you have a due date yet, or is it just early Nov?

OP posts:
apples82 · 24/03/2011 08:02

I looked into getting a private scan done misty0, but DH was kinda against it. We compromised that if my NHS scan was unreasonably long away like in the 14th or 15th wk or something, then I could get the private one done first.

Luckily it's come through at 12+1 so just waiting for the days to tick down now.

It feels abit weird now though. Obviously, when you first find up your pg, you're dead exciting and reading everything and just dying dying dying for the scan. I guess now the news has sunk in, and i'm just taking everything in my stride now. I'm not obsessing about every little thing and just going with the flow.

Don't get my wrong, I can't wait for the scan, but around wk 6 or 7 I was getting fanatical about when my booking appointment would be, when my scan would be etc etc.

Also welcome doofus1, you liked the Horton then? Do you get your own room or are you out on a ward?

rightontime · 24/03/2011 10:38

Hi ladies. I completely forgot about this thread, sorry Blush

Welcome to doofus and sweetclarity

I am still waiting for a date to come through for MW and scan appointments. How long did you find it took those that are at the horton? My GP referred me last thursday.

apples82 · 24/03/2011 10:58

My MW called me when I was 9 weeks to make booking appointment which I had at 12+4, and I think I got my scan letter for Horton in wk 8 which was nice Smile

Not sure if its a good idea drawing your attention to negative reviews, but I found it interesting to read so thought others might too...its not so positive unfortunately! But there seem to be a lot of people who do have good experiences, so I'm going to stick with it.
