Hello there - Smile

This is a thread for anyone in the south Northamptonshire/north Oxfordshire area who may like to say hi, and give us any wisdom about the Horton and surounding maternity units.

I'm due early Oct, have not had any scan yet and am booking in with beards mill clinic. Going tmrow for bloods. My local hospital is the Horton, Banbury. Love to hear from you .....

OP posts:

Hi Skorpian, sounds like you are the most experienced on here, I think this is the first pregnancy for both myself and apples.

I also had my 2nd midwife meeting today, was so lovely to hear the heartbeat!

Apples82, whats the stitch for? to help hold the baby in?

apples82 · 06/05/2011 09:26

Yeah AgBag, about five years ago I had diathermy loop treatment (following abnormal cells at smear, they biopsy'd my cervix). Because of the treatment, I have less cervix, and they generally say you're likely to be around 3 weeks premature. The appointment is to measure the length of my cervix to see if I need a stitch to help support for the weight of the baby.

AgBag · 08/05/2011 16:52

oh i see. Hope the appointment goes well for you.

3 weeks premature doesnt sound bad.. better than being really late and less time to wait for your baby!

MotherPanda · 08/05/2011 19:17

Hello Everyone! I just saw this thread and thought i might pop my head in and say hello (look - i even brought a pack of custard creams for us to share :). I'm due 20th July and in Banbury. Although The Horton is 'my hospital', I'm planning a home waterbirth. Is anybody else?

Saw a few of you chatting about maternity clothes - i've found stuff in Banbury town centre in Matalan, Peacocks, Debenhams (Red Herring range) but the best of all is at H&M. Marks and Spencers have a few Maternity/Nursing Bras but no clothes which is a shame. I think the best Maternity Bras are at Debenhams, they have lovely pretty florals.

I'm having a little girl, am 29+4 weeks at the moment. Fed up with this pregnancy lark really, but feeling a bit scared of labour.

It's so exciting reading about all your babies!!!

apples82 · 09/05/2011 08:21

Hi MotherPanda and welcome,

Do H&M have a maternity range in store in Banbury then?

I had the misfortune to go into Oxford to get maternity bits, and the four shops that do maternity all told me that they don't stock any in store, only online. Grr Grr Grr!

I'd love to know which shops in Banbury actually stock bits though???

MotherPanda · 09/05/2011 21:42

Thanks for the welcome apples. Yep - all the above shops actually stock clothes, Including H&M. I've been to all of them and found lovely things.

MotherPanda · 09/05/2011 21:45

Forgot to mention that the New Look in banbury has a good maternity range in stock as well - best shop for summery dresses. Also Pumpkin Patch has a few odd bits... and Mothercare, of course, but its not a huge selection.

Happy Shopping!

apples82 · 10/05/2011 13:56

Thanks MotherPanda, I see another shopping trip on the cards!

AgBag · 11/05/2011 11:31

Hi MotherPanda.

Sorry I've not been on here for a while... been quite unwell recently. I was wondering how much weight you've put on apples? If you dont mind me asking. We are virtually the same stage I think. I'm 17+1 today. I'm 8lbs down on what I was when I first got pregnant. The morning sickness is to blame for the weight loss. I'd be interested to know how much I should have put on!

Hope everyone is doing well.

apples82 · 11/05/2011 12:28

Hi AgBag sorry to hear you've been poorly!

I've put on 2lb since my 12 week scan, and i'm now 17+2. Doc said this was fine, just not to eat for two. I don't know how it is 'only' two pounds when I have got as big as a house!

AgBag · 12/05/2011 14:14

2 lbs isn't a lot! That makes me feel better in a way. I hope I start to put on some weight soon.

Regarding clothes shopping, Some online/catalogue maternity ranges are:
seraphine
isabella oliver
boden (has a small maternity range)
tiffany rose
.... but none are particularly cheap.

I went to Birmingham to see the Gap and H&M maternity ranges but I found them both quite disappointing. In Banbury, I think new look seems to have the largest selection.

AgBag · 12/05/2011 14:15

mama la mode is another one

apples82 · 15/05/2011 10:11

Hey All,

Sorry I haven't been on for a while, my work computer seems to be scrambling the mumsnet site, so I can't really read it or post etc.

I had a consultant appointment on Wednesday just gone, they had to check whether I needed a stitch. Currently I don't so that is good news, although they're going to be measuring me every month from now on to keep a check on things.

Going to be 18 weeks tomorrow, blimey, nearly half way!

AgBag are you feeling any better yet? Thinking of you.

AgBag · 18/05/2011 16:33

Thats good that you dont need a stitch so far.

I'm now 18+1 ! Can't believe how time is flying! I'm still very sick and not functioning at all normally.

I've been feeling lots of movement and little kicks though. Also some aches and pains in my tummy - which I hope is normal. Sometimes it hurts if I blow my nose !?!

How is everyone else feeling?

apples82 · 24/05/2011 15:19

Finally!!!

My work computer has been scrambling the mumsnet website, it's working again, yay!!!

AgBag, i've felt movements too, and had one kick. I'm 19+1 which I think you're now around too.

Funny you say about blowing your nose, I got out of bed the other night to go to the bathroom to have a major coughing fit (didn't want to wake DH) and when I coughed, it's like it caught something under my bump.

I've read up on this weeks blurb that we'll start to feel those pulls and niggles as everything really gets to stretching!

AgBag · 06/06/2011 10:52

I'm being kicked heaps now. Over the last week or so the kicks have been getting much stronger. Have you had your 20 week scan yet? Hope it goes well for you. I'm so excited about mine, but I don't have it until Thursday.
My sickness is finally subsiding and have managed to eat properly and finally regained 2lbs!

Hope you are doing well.

apples82 · 06/06/2011 12:01

Ah well done, I wondered if you were still getting poorly.

Yep, we had the 20wk scan on Wednesday last week. The sonographer had a good look, but then had to send me away for a walk and a chocolate bar as the baby had it's face turned up into me, so she couldn't check for cleft pallete etc. Once i'd had the chocolate the baby had moved a little bit. But yes, got told everything is as it should be.

Kind of sad and strange to think that I won't have any more scans now, and that you only get to the little one twice. I'll have to be patient and wait until October!

Let us know how your scan goes on Thursday, I bet you're gagging with excitement.

AgBag · 06/06/2011 17:05

Yes I can't wait! Did you find out the sex? Glad to hear it all went fine for you. I've heard that some hospitals have a policy of not telling you the sex, I'm hoping the Horton doesn't!

I didn't realise they checked for cleft palletes. Its incredible how much they can check while its still in the womb!

Are you in the middle of 'the glow' period now? I heard that the second trimester is meant to make you feel full of energy and vitality. I'm really hoping its true and theres still a small chance I'll experience it!

I'm heaps better than I was and managing to eat much better now. But I'm still very tired. Perhaps I'm just weak from the lack of nutrition over the last 4 months. I'm still having to go to bed at 9.30pm (and i don't wake up until 8.30am!).

How are your energy levels?

apples82 · 07/06/2011 08:29

When we went into the scan, we said we don't want to know the sex, and the sonographer said that they don't check unless we ask to know it.

She did a full check of the baby, all the internal organs, brain, bones etc, and wouldn't complete the scan until she'd managed to see the face because of cleft pallete. It was lovely really. If your LO is anything like ours then you'll be amazed by all the bones shining out at you, it really is completely different to the 12 week scan.

I think i'm in the glow stage, i'm just getting to the point where if i'm standing for a good while then my back will start aching. Also, when going to sleep i'm finding it a little harder to get comfy.

I keep hearing that I should be lying on my left hand side from now on, as on back means uterous weight is bearing down etc, and on right side means you're lying on a major vein which can then make you go dizzy.

Last night again I tried on my left, but the baby starts kicking loads and won't settle, so I don't know whether that means that they don't like the left side? Sure enough, I seem to sleep on my right and back still and all seems fine.

AgBag · 07/06/2011 09:27

oooh I didn't know that about lying on your left rather than right side... I've noticed that when I lie on my right side my fingers go numb!

Great to hear you're experiencing the glow!

The scanning sounds lovely. I'll let you know how mine goes on Thursday!

apples82 · 10/06/2011 11:52

Well AgBag, how did the scan go yesterday??? Smile

AgBag · 13/06/2011 12:21

Hi, It was great! It was so exciting and now everything feels more real! As soon as she switched on the machine there was a little face staring directly at us! It was incredible! We also found out the sex, its a girl which I'm thrilled about! Shes growing normally and developing as she should be for her 21 weeks. It was a relief to hear that after the lack of food I've been eating. The only slight thing that was worrying is that I apparently have a low lying placenta and have to go back for another scan at 34 weeks to check that its moved. They said the chances are that it will move, but if it doesn't then I might need a caesarian. I really hope that doesnt happen.

I went shopping at the weekend and have ordered a pram which was great fun! Its such a minefield choosing a pram! I did a fair bit of research but ultimately made my decision according to the colours it came in haha. I chose the Bugaboo Cameleon. A gift from my parents actually. Have you started pram shopping yet or buying bits for the baby? I've not bought a single thing myself yet, but my mother keeps buying bits, shes so thrilled to be becoming a grandmother.

I ventured out to the Banbury Town Show yesterday... in the rain! I thought I'd make an effort. Was such a shame about the weather as they'd obviously gone to a lot of effort. As I'm new to the town I wanted to go down and see what was on show. My dog won a prize in the 'Prettiest Bitch' dog show - I'm so proud!

I vomited again last night which wasn't much fun, especially as I thought the sickness had ended over a week ago. Hopefully it was just a small blip. But generally I'm starting to feel much better and am finally enjoying my pregnancy.

I hope you are doing well and continuing to blossom!

apples82 · 13/06/2011 14:27

Ah fantastic news AgBag, very lovely to hear that all is well. And a girl- fabulous!

Well done on your pram shopping. We're not buying, or allowing others to get anything baby related until a lot longer in, but my DH is a worry merchant!

apples82 · 20/06/2011 15:09

Question: I'm due to give birth in the Horton in Banbury in October. In order to claim child benefit you have to send off the birth certificate.

Where do I go to get the birth certificate, is there a registry office in Banbury that I go to to register the birth?

rightontime · 21/06/2011 17:01

You need to go to Bodicote council office to register the birth. Pretty sure you phone and make an appointment after the birth.

Sorry all, I joined why back when the thread first started but haven't been on lately. Can I join in again?

Congrats on 20 week scans. I had mine today at exactly 20 weeks and all was well. Baby made it very difficult to see everything and photos were awful but a sign of a very unphotogenic baby I am sure.
