Hi girls
Not sure if you have a list for baby stuff, but this one was on another thread I'm on, and found it really useful. It's long, so beware!! I just mark things off as I buy them. Helps spread the cost, as I've been buying little bits per week rather than buy it all in one go!

Cabbage leaves? Is that incase you have a rabbit instead of a baby? Confused

KLou111 · 20/03/2011 10:44

Lol, that totally confused me too! Think something to do with keeping nips cool or soft or something like that :)
Didn't get the jug for watering down first wee either, or am I just being thick {confused]

OP posts:
KLou111 · 20/03/2011 12:27

Melly been thinking of your name choice and you were struggling for the second part. Thought of Poppy-Mae, Poppy-Jo, Poppy-Grace, Poppy-Rose, Poppy-Louise, Poppy-Faith :)

OP posts:
Melly19MummyToBe · 20/03/2011 18:54

I don't get the jug of water thing either Confused maybe it's something us newbies won't understand until we've actually had the baby!?! Hmmmmm, no idea actually.

They're all so lovely! We are thinking about Poppy-Louise, but DP is ummming and aaahing too much. I love Poppy-Ava but he doesn't :(

Ooooooooooh nursery carpet being fitted tomorrow afternoon!! Can't wait :o

KLou111 · 20/03/2011 19:31

I was going to say Poppy-Ava, as we're having Ava if a girl :)
Will have to have a look on the net at the cabbage leaves and water thing Confused

I am VERY VERY VERY VERY happy. Just won a brand new Angelcare Sound and Movement Deluxe monitor on ebay, the one with 2 hand-held thingies for £69!!! Grin Chuffed to bits as the normal ones with one hand-held are £70 cheapest I've found. The Deluxe one is around £115!!
Couldn't justify paying that, but since I've got a bargain I am so chuffed!! Can keep one in the bedroom and leave one downstairs now. :)

KLou111 · 20/03/2011 19:43

Just looked up the wee thing. Apparently the first wee after giving birth is painful as hell!!! If you spray water 'down there' while you wee, it lessens the stinging. I personally would think it would be more than just the first wee!!!!!
Cabbage leaves lessen engorgement when breast feeding.

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 20/03/2011 19:47

sorry ladies i dont have time to talk to you as much as i would like, but the jug thing is really only if you tear during the birth. if you do tear, you are supposed to pour warm water while having a wee otherwise it will sting. if you dont tear, you dont need to bother doing it.

plus off that list, i would take more than a couple of baby grows to hospital, more like 4-5 and wouldnt buy vaseline unless you already have it, i have never used it in the 5 years of being a mother!

hope you are all well, i might get time to come on later when dd is in bedSmile

KLou111 · 20/03/2011 20:03

I've bought 3 baby grows newborn, 6 baby grows next size up and 3 vests, 2 sizes (total 6) as I would rather have too many than too few, so will pack the lot if you say so Liz, I haven't got a clue, and obviously might have a big baby!! Will prob get some more though JIC :)

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 20/03/2011 21:10

it all depends how long you have to stay in hospital, but even if it is all straight forward, i would definatly take at least 4 vests and baby grows. i didnt take enough with dd (actually didint take hardly anything as she was 3 weeks early and i was totally unprepared) but the first feed went straight through her, and all over me, so take spares for you too. then after that change, if they are sick a few times, you need a few changes.

i have had alot of aches and pains over this weekend and some belly ache today and cant really point it to anything didgy i might have eaten. i might be having braxton hicks cause sometimes my belly feels really heavy and tight. wonder if it is?

klou i have been thinking og you all weekendGrin i just cant get over how skinny you still are and cant imagine where your baby must have space in there! and dont be in any hurry to get bigger! just think the less you grow and stretch, the less damage you will do to your skin and the better you will look afterSmile

oh and dont feel alone, i have been getting spots too, i dont usually get many either, but i seem to have one on every part of my body just latelySad

i am going to copy out that list and check things off as i still have loads to get. i am planning on taking a couple of trips to kiddicare and get alot of it then, but its not bloody open on sundays when dh could come with meSad its so inconvenitent! its a massive warehouse type place and no open on the day when most couples could go Angry

lizandlulu · 20/03/2011 21:52

i have printed off the list and crossed a few things off it that i presonally think are not needed at first anyway.

for starters you wont need a sun hat as you have to keep babies out of the sun completely for months anyway so its pointless.

nail siscors, i just bite dd's off if they needed it as i was scared of cutting her

hairbrush (had one with dd and never used it)

vasoline

travel cot, i dont need one and if i do go away overnight it can sleep in the pram or moses basket for the first few months.

disposable pants, i am not going to bother with, just going to wear the huge granny pants i have laready got and throw them away after

and i am not convinced i will need 6 packs of maternity towels. i know you need alot, but 6!!! i will be taking 2 packs and if i get through them just send dh to bootsGrin

its quite handy that round the corner from the hospital is a little shopping precinct with a boots, macdonalds, domino's and a few others on it, so he will have to do his duty if need be

Melly19MummyToBe · 21/03/2011 10:19

Thats a great bargain Klou! I'd be well chuffed if I were you!

As for the jug thing, when my sister had her son, she didn't tear, she grazed apparantly. And she was told to sit in the bath with the shower head everytime she needed a wee! DPs mum has also told me this, well she said a bidet at first, but we're not that posh :o then she said about the shower head, she was like "oooooh it's bliss! And you can aim it properly, unlike a bidet" I was just Hmm tmi there, tmi!

lizandlulu · 21/03/2011 13:52

Grin melly, i neverh ad any problems with weeing, it was more pooing that i didnt want to do, just because you feel like if you have a poo, your insides are going to come out with it! took me about 3 days to finally go.

postman has just been and brought my vertbaudet order, cant wait to get them home and see if they fit, and a dr browns bottle i sent off for from one of the baby mags. i cant decide which bolltes to use, nuby squashy ones or tommee tippee ones.

also cant decide on monitor, i had a tomy (i think) first time which was fine but might get something abit fancier this time.

KLou111 · 21/03/2011 19:01

I've bought the Tommee Tippee ones Liz as planning to BF, but want DH to be able to feed from expressed too. They are closest to a nipple apparently :)

Are you excited about your scan in the morning? I am so excited!!!! Just had a little listen to bubbas heart, I find it first time now which is lovely, but still quite low on my bikini line. Going back to the Midlands on Saturday morning and the GP's-to-be all want a listen, so may have to have a little 'shave' Blush Been feeling her (I think we're having a girl) a lot today.

Still no bump, but have now put on a total of 7lbs arrrrrrgh!!!

Took DH into Mothercare today. Think it was a bit much for him lol. I've been buying everything off the net so quite strange actually walking into.......ahem.......a SHOP! Saw a lovely cot in there which was quite reasonable.

Happy birthday for tomorrow Madkatz just in case you don't come on. Are you doing anything nice?

OP posts:
Melly19MummyToBe · 21/03/2011 19:17

Oh of course, you two have your scans tomorrow don't you! Good luck :) who are the GPs-to-be Klou?

Happy Birthday for tomorrow MadKatz! Hope you have a lovely day whatever you have planned :)

I am so mad! The nursery carpet was fitted today and it looks gorgeous and I love it. But what I really don't love, are the mucky handprints the carpet fitters have left all over my cream and yellow walls!!! Angry Going to ring them up tomorrow and ask them wtf they are going to do about it!

KLou111 · 21/03/2011 19:21

Grandparents-to-be Melly :)
What idiots!! They seriously need to sort your lovely new walls!! Glad your carpet looks lovely though. How far along are you now?

OP posts:
KLou111 · 21/03/2011 19:24

BTW, I dyed my hair 'blonde' yesterday from dark blonde, and it has gone bloody strawberry blondish! The bottom half is blonde, but the top half hasn't gone right! Will have to do it again lol! Bet that's the bloody hormones too!

OP posts:
Melly19MummyToBe · 21/03/2011 20:00

ooooh of course, Grandparents! I am an idiot lol! I'm 29 weeks tomorrow :) so less than 3 months to go!

I think Poppy is going to be a very active person when she's here, she seems to love Aerobics! Especially at about 11 o clock at night when I'm trying to sleep :)

lizandlulu · 21/03/2011 20:01

yes i am very excited although abit nervous to be honest. i dont feel it very much and i am just hoping that they tell me everything is alright. i am sure i am worrying over nothing. i can find the heartbeat most of the time, but often while i am listening, it moves and must go deeper into the fat and disappearsGrin

klou we had a cot bed from mothercare for dd and it is a lovely thing, really sturdy and worn very well. we are going to be using it this time too. it had winne the pooh on the end and is really cute.

melly thats abit inconsiderate! i would expect them to have grubby hands, but then i would expect them to clean up after themselves tooAngry

happy birthday madkatz have a great day Wine

GruffaloMama · 21/03/2011 20:12

Good luck with scans tomorrow all! All fine here but away for weekend. Back to work tomorrow... BTW no need for cabbage leaves at hospital - engorgement doesn't normally kick in til later. Agree with Liz that a few baby grows are handy for hospital bag. And disposable knickers are rubbish - just keep hold of a few grotty old ones and throw out afterwards. Much more comfy.

Melly19MummyToBe · 21/03/2011 20:27

Liz and Gruffalo, when you were PG first time around, did you find that the baby reacted to noises outside of the womb? Like sudden loud noises, did they 'jump' and kick/wiggle when they heard yours or your partners voices? I'm just wondering because so far, Poppy appears to be deaf Hmm and doesn't react to ANY sort of noise, I went out on saturday night and she didn't even move when I got into the pubs with the really loud music. I'm just a bit worried :( DPs dad was born deaf.

GruffaloMama · 21/03/2011 20:52

Melly, ds did respond to external stuff but prob not til later on when we went to concerts. If you're worried I'd talk to your midwife. They do a hearing test at about two days old so that should rule out any probs. My health visitor was good about referring us for an eye test for ds as I had an eye problem that wasn't detected until I was 5. As it turns out ds wasn't affected but it was good to get the reassurance.

Madkatz happy birthday for tomorrow!

lizandlulu · 21/03/2011 21:15

no melly mine didnt react to any noise while she was still on the inside. i put it down to going to the racing all the time and she was just used to the noise. aparently they are ment to be able to tell if its yours or dh's hand touching the bump too, but i dont know about that as i didnt get any raaction.

GruffaloMama · 21/03/2011 21:36

I must have been about 35 weeks before DS started noticing stuff outside. There were two particular concerts we went to that he got excited about - mind you it could have been a complete coincidence...

This little bean has got hiccups just now. Cutey pie. And off to see the consultant tomorrow to find out whether natural birth or c-section. Don't know what to wish for!
