I found out yesterday that I am pregnant with DC2. I am really pleased as we only started trying on Christmas Eve so I am only about four weeks pregnant.

I have told my best friend but I think DP and I will wait to tell family and friends until after the scan. Anyone else due in September and fancy a chat?

I can empathise with the wotsit craving as I seemed to eat a lot with DD - those and marmite (although not together :))

We are trying to hold off telling anyone until at least 12 weeks although will hold out for mothers day if I am not showing too much as will be about 15 weeks (that is probably completely unrealistic!)

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 21:24

Why mother's day 2BlackCats? Do you mean so you can tell your mum that day?

I didn't show very quickly the first time and I didn't tell work until I was 5 months pregnant so it is definitely possible but everyone is different.

Mothers day surprise present - I just like the idea of all the parents finding out then!

I started wearing my maternity trousers around 16 weeks last time so it might be possible but I am expecting to show earlier this time... muscles been traumatised already!

clareybaby87 · 25/01/2011 21:44

hey =) Found out i was pregnant on the 7th jan, and worked out i'm 7 weeks 2mo, and due sept 14th :) So happy, except this morning sickness is awful, got it about 4 days ago and feel like death lol.
Gone off all my food, can't eat anything, altho i force something down when my stomach is hurting so much that its making the sickness worse lol.
Told my family, and a few close friends. Can't wait for the 12 week mark to tell everyone then, and i'm hoping my sickness goes aswell lol.
Didnt think i could get pregnant so this pregnancy is really special to me, altho i can't enjoy it properly until this damn sickness leaves me alone lol.
Anyways, goodluck everyone so happy 4 u all :D

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 21:44

I know the feeling. I hated maternity clothes, don't make me think about them yet Grin

Congratulations clareybabey87! And you must be so thrilled that you are pregnant after all. Sorry to hear you are having a lot of morning sickness.

Have you got a date for your scan yet?

OP posts:
clareybaby87 · 25/01/2011 21:56

hey red daisy,
Yea my scan date is the 22nd Feb, when i'm 10 weeks which i thought was strange as i thought the 1st scan was at 12 weeks. But they said that they would do blood tests and scans together. Can't complain though, the closer i get to see my little bean the better lol.

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 21:59

Oooh how exciting! I will have to wait for ages for mine. It doesn't feel real to me at the moment so I can't wait to have the scan.

OP posts:
clareybaby87 · 25/01/2011 22:14

i feel exactly the same way, and because i had no symptoms for a while i even went to the doctors and told her that i felt like i'd get to my scan and they would find nothing lol.
I don't have to worry about that now lol, i have most of the symptoms, apart from my boobs, they're sore, but not half as bad as i've heard others are.
So nice to find somewhere where i can speak to other people at the stage that i am.
When is your scan?

eastegg · 26/01/2011 10:08

Hi again!

Had time to read more of the thread today; bit rushed yesterday. Congratulations to all the new joiners. Sorry about the sickness clarey. Mine kicked in lasted time at I think between 6 and 7 weeks, and I'm coming up to 6 now. Kind of waiting for it. I think it varies a lot how long it goes on for but with me it was only about 3 weeks at most. Hope it's not long for you.

Lots of 2nd timers on here which is great. mummytomax I think it was you who said you've found out about the dangers of forceps. What are they? DS got stuck when I should have been getting to the pushing stage, after a straightforward first stage, so had failed ventouse, then forceps and a 3rd degree tear. That's why I'm going to be considering a CS this time in due course. If there are particular dangers of forceps I'd be even more keen, not that I ever thought forceps were ideal...

I won't have a scan for ages, or see a midwife I don't think. Last time midwife booking in was later than the 12 week scan and I'm not due until end Sept

eastegg · 26/01/2011 10:09

Sorry, last time, not lasted

Jhas · 26/01/2011 11:00

Hi all, I found out I was pregnant with DC1 on the 14th, and I worked out that we conceived sometime between Christmas and new year. I was really happy when i found out and DP was over the moon. Unfortunately I have now become the dragon-queen, and poor DP can do nothing right and I feel anxious all the time. Apparently this is normal, but I would swap it for morning sickness (which I don't currently have) in a heart beat!
I am due 24th Sept. Really excited and scared all at once.

mummytomax · 26/01/2011 11:17

Hi eastegg Probably best I don' go into loads of detail on here the particular cases I've read about where forceps have caused damage, but there's been 2 major stories in the last few months in the news, one which tragically ended in the baby's death and another where a baby was left blind in one eye. You'd probably find them both if you wanted to research it further online.
Obviously we're all aware that there's a possibility things can go wrong in any type of delivery so I don't want to bang on about it on here and it's nice to keep the chat light. I've seen a few threads on the childbirth section so maybe you could look there if you're keen to find out more.

Anyone else struggling with hormomes? I was in a fit of rage last night at DH for absolutely no reason! I also had a good cry after dropping DS off at nursery this morning (don't know why - he was fine!) He just looked so grown up, maybe it just hit me that he's not a baby any more.

mummytomax · 26/01/2011 11:21

Congrats Jhas and clareybaby it's so exciting isn't it.

Jhas we must've been typing our posts at the same time as I'd not read yours when I was saying about me yelling at DH. It made me giggle to think there's all these poor OHs out there getting stick for no reason. Oh well, their bit's done for the next 8 months so maybe we should make them feel like they're going through it too.

chelstonmum · 26/01/2011 11:29

Haha Reddaisy and Princess, I am being firm but fair!

Just had my book in app with the doctor and not as good as I was hoping for, my BP is rather high and he has brought my book in app with the midwife forward by 3 weeks to 'keep a close eye on things':(

Is anyone else in (or been in) the same boat? Im only six weeks. x

mummytomax · 26/01/2011 13:25

Hi chelstonmum

Sorry to hear you've had a stressful morning. Did the Dr say what it is the MW is supposed to be keeping a close eye on? And did he say if there's anything you can do to try and bring it down?

On the plus side, at least you've had your BP checked and you're getting to see a midwife. So if it is a problem it sounds like you're being well taken care of.

Big hug

chelstonmum · 26/01/2011 14:20

Hi mummytomax

He has taken a urine sample and sent me to the nurse for a full set of bloods on Monday. The Mw is to keep a weekly (sigh) check on my bp and if it does not lower on its own within 2 weeks he has mentioned a course of beta blockers as I had severe pre-eclampsia with ds and dd so he wants to level me out to avoid complications. I feel dizzy and sick just thinking about it!

He advised me to do one big thing a day.....ie, if I fancy a 5mile walk don't follow it up with a solo supermarket shop........feeling a bit useless! x

mummytomax · 26/01/2011 14:33

Well, you're certainly not useless. Your body is now home to a new LO and is busy taking care of him/her.

It doesn't really seem like you have much choice other than to follow Drs orders and it sounds like good advice to me anyway. It could be applied to anyone who is pregnant as this early stage is so fragile. I'm sure you have enough going on with your other 2 DC and being self-employed to go on a 5 mile walk and supermarket shop in one day anyway!

Stay positive, it's a good thing they're keeping an eye on you. My GP didn't even check my blood pressure.

landyb · 26/01/2011 15:41

Hi everyone, have been a bit quiet for a few days and finally the 6 positive results have sunk in, and me and DP have now chilled out and relaxed into excitement! Its our first and I keep thinking I should have morning sickness but nothing apart from toothpaste tasting like liquorice? I know I will regret saying it though when it starts!!! No doctors appointment for 2 weeks, so am just attempting to be healthy and not worry! Just want to say congrats to everyone :)

jimmijam · 26/01/2011 19:49

hiya, come and join us on the septemberbaby bus :-)

PrincessScrumpy · 26/01/2011 20:04

Hi Mummytomax, my hormones are crazy - not angry just supper happy one sec then crying the next. Was nearly in tear as some 14-year-olds gave me some lip at school (not even that bad!). I didn't let them see I was upset!

Chelstonmum sorry to hear about your blood pressure. I'm off for an early scan tomorrow as I had some spotting night before last which carried on for about 18 hours. That's now stopped but then last night cramping started - just uncomfortable not terrible. I called my GP and he booked me in for some tests. One minute I'm calm and fine the next I'm blubbing. Dh can't come to the scan either as it clashes with picking up dd from preschool. A friend offered to come but they might want to do an internal so probably go alone. Fingers crossed.

mummytomax · 26/01/2011 20:13

Sorry Princessscrumpy to hear you're having a worrying time. There's a good chance there's nothing to worry about and hopefully tomorrow your mind will be put at rest and you'll see your healthy little one.

Is there anyone else you can trust to pick up DD? It would probably be a good idea for DH to go with you just in case (if he can't I'd definitely take a friend. The internal scans are very discreet, your modesty will be fully covered with a sheet and the seat for your chaperone will be at your head so just wear a long top for when you take pants off. I've had 3 of these previously and have never flashed). Plus it would be really nice for him to see the baby for the first time.

Let us know how you get on.

PrincessScrumpy · 26/01/2011 20:16

I'll speak to him when he gets home - we've only talked discreetly on the phone as we were both at work and people around us don't know.

Feel guilty as the spotting started after sex - which I've now banned (poor dh!) This may be a long pg for him Grin

mummytomax · 26/01/2011 20:29

Sex?! You're good, my DH was slightly disappointed I got pregnant so quick as he knows he's not allowed near me until November at the earliest now! I'm so knackered it takes all my energy to just get through the day.

Seriously though, if that is what's caused it then most defintely everything will be ok. It probably just interfered with the mucus plug that's beginning to form.
