I found out yesterday that I am pregnant with DC2. I am really pleased as we only started trying on Christmas Eve so I am only about four weeks pregnant.

I have told my best friend but I think DP and I will wait to tell family and friends until after the scan. Anyone else due in September and fancy a chat?

painfullyhonest I know, I think the sickness thing is something I'll regret, just don't really feel pg at the moment.

I had 37 stitches and tore internally up the sides and the front (not much backwards). I went from 0cm to 10cm within an hour (wasn't induced). Very fast and furious. No time for epidural but mw wouldn't give me gas and air as it was "too early"... proved her wrong. Only got it as I was wheeled down the corridor to delivery.

Maybe if I'd had the stitches but a supportive mw I would feel different but I have no faith in them. They also ignored my wish for my gp (a village gp who does home births with mws) to be called (sticker with his number was on the front cover of my notes). He was finally called when dh had a strop at them (not in his nature).

But to all those first-time mums on the thread, labour is a beautiful thing where you wear a floaty nightie and hum your way through contractions Grin

I hope we don't put you off the thread Wink

I was so delusional about labour that I packed two books into my hospital bag and I fully expected to have a quiet moment to read them! How wrong I was.

All worth it in the end. Anyone watch One Born Every Minute tonight? I thought it was another lovely episode.

I really don't think it is bad for everyone, I know some people who have said it was fine and no worse than they expected at all. It definitely seems to be those of us who had bad experiences talk about it in more detail!

I watched One Born Every Minute. It's nice to see the ones that are relatively straightforward. That blonde lady's husband was brilliant at looking after her wasn't he! He certainly must have read a couple books on childbirth.

The other ones made me laugh "sponge you prick!" I did feel a bit sorry for him but more sorry for her Mum, must have been a really scary time for her.

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 09:58

That's true MummytoMax, my friends who had straightforward labours don't really understand how difficult it can be if things don't go to plan.

Her husband was great, especially compared to some of the plonkers who are with their women on the programme!

My Ds was born in 2hrs 20min......my bottom was in the corridor and my head was in the room (I was being wheeled to theatre for an ECS). DD was born in 2hrs, I said I needed to push and was told not to be silly your waters are still intact, they were still intact a few seconds later when my DD arrived, caught by me and panic began to have her cut out and stabilised. I love the phrase mother knows best, sadly some midwifes do not agree. Shock

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 10:50

ChelstonMum by 2hours 20mins do you mean you start that from your first contraction?

Maybe they will listen to you this time now that you have had two quick births, I hope you live close to a hospital.

Hello ladies. I found out on Saturday I'm expecting no.2 in September (DS is nearly 21 months). Managed to get a last minute Dr's app yesterday to get ball rolling and he reckons EDD of 26th Sept.

Congratulations to everyone. We're planning on not telling anyone until the 12 week scan like last time. Although there seems to be a stronger impulse to tell people this time for some reason, especially the local mums, some of whom are pregnant with or just had no.2. They seem in a different category somehow!

I have to say I'm just not that excited yet.We were planning on starting to try a bit later than this and got a head start and now I think I'm still coming to terms with it not being the time of year I'd dreamt about. All a bit silly I know. When I saw the lines on the test I just thought 'oh'. Anyone else feel a bit flat? Nice to have somewhere to talk about these things. Also when DS is really playing up I think what am I doing?

On a different note, am I the only woman in early PG who hasn't got big/sore breasts? It seems to be a universal symptom but mine are still exactly the same ie almost non-existent after DS and BFing! Maybe the big boobs and excitement will come at same time. My symptoms have been wind and light-headedness when standing up.

eastegg · 25/01/2011 11:37

Also, meant to say, hello to anyone thinking of a ELCS this time after probs with the first. I'm going to be investigating that. It's early days though and just want to get to 12 weeks first.

mummytomax · 25/01/2011 11:38

Blimey chelstonmum that's blooming quick, must've been terrifying! Is your 3rd likely to be as fast or does it not work like that?

I called my surgery today and made my booking appointment with the MW. Tuesday 8th Feb, hopefully I'll be 8 weeks by then and will be having a scan the same week. Still seems ages away.

mummytomax · 25/01/2011 11:45

Hi eastegg and congrats

My boobs did not change size at all with DS even with BF too and I didn't experience any pain or soreness either. They feel sore this time around, but have yet to get bigger. Unfortunately I don't have the boobs to match my body. I really want that symptom this time!

I know what you mean about it being more tempting to tell people this time. I managed to wait until 12 weeks with my first, but this time I'm bursting to tell everyone. I'm waiting until at least after my first scan at 8 weeks and if I can wait any longer after that then I will.

chelstonmum · 25/01/2011 18:21

Hi Reddaisy and mummytomax, I was induced with DS and merely had a slight niggle through the night, 2.20 from first contraction to delivery....DD was not induced but felt lik eI was going to have a bit of an upset tummy in the afternoon. First contraction at 8pm and baby at 9.59!

Luckily I am a 5min drive from the local maternity dep as they seem to think you get a little quicker with each baby!!! Confused

Book in with doctor tomorrow, cant wait! x

PrincessScrumpy · 25/01/2011 18:31

Congrats Eastegg - yes I'm having cs with number 2 - read the thread. Don't want to put others off as I know my experience was unusual.

I'm afraid my boobs have already grown - not sore though. DH is very excited. I'm a 32d anyway so now I'm a 32dd. Went up to 34EE when bf dd1! My boob was bigger than dd's head!

My advice to 1st time mums - listen to your body and stand your ground (or get dh to stand up for you).

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 19:49

ChelstonMum - thank God you live so close! I'm a 45 minute drive from the hospital on a good day.

The midwife has rung tonight and I am booked in for my first appointment on Feb 15, that feels like ages away though.

I have been so tempted to tell my boss today just so he knows. Are any of you planning to tell work before 12 weeks?

OP posts:
PrincessScrumpy · 25/01/2011 19:57

My line manager knows as she's due 4 weeks before me and I blurted it out. Hoping she'll keep it to herself though.

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 20:12

Ahh, I remember you saying that.

I am not sure I trust my line manager to keep it to himself either but I did feel a bit queasy at work today (I felt much better after I ate something)so I thought it might be worth mentioning it to him.

I can't decide what to do.

OP posts:
chelstonmum · 25/01/2011 20:14

I work for myself, makes for a rather understanding boss Wink

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 20:18

How did you take the news Chelstonmum? Wink

OP posts:
PrincessScrumpy · 25/01/2011 20:20

there are 3 other women pg at work. One, who is 11 weeks, has been trying for ages. She is now keeping it secret (I know but she doesn't know I know!). She's taken 3 days off due to exhaustion and is going to bed at 8pm every night. She walks around rubbing her tummy and huffing and puffing - quite hilarious. Just wait until she's 30 weeks gone and waddling.

I know I should be sympathetic but I had a slipped pelvic bone from 13 weeks and was in lots of pain - still worked 8am-7pm most days when pg with dd1. Not sensible I admit but that's what the job was like.

This pg will be more chilled out work wise but I'll have a 3-year-old to deal with too. Still feeling remarkably well, just tired in the evenings so dh is rushing round making me hot chocolates etc!

PrincessScrumpy · 25/01/2011 20:22

Being your own boss Chelstonmum possibly makes you harsher on yourself! Hope you're not being too strict with yourself Wink

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 20:27

Grin at her rubbing her tummy and huffing and puffing. She must be so glad to be pregnant now that she can't help herself!

Someone bumped into me in the supermarket with their trolley the other day and didn't apologise and DP got all protective.

I have had a couple of days when I have been knackered but on the whole I'm ok so far too but I'm already eating too much, I had better nip that in the bud quickly!

OP posts:
PrincessScrumpy · 25/01/2011 20:31

I'm craving wotsits - usually can't stand them!

With dd I was bumped into with a trolly, I fainted (was 30 weeks gone and my body tends to faint rather easily). Had to have injection as I'm rhesus - and they didn't even apologise. Was wrapped up in a coat so might not have noticed but my bump wasn't small!

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 20:41

Mmmm wotsits. Do you faint even when you aren't pregnant then? That must be a pain.

OP posts:
PrincessScrumpy · 25/01/2011 20:47

It seems to be my body's way of telling me I'm overdoing things. If I'm ill I tend to ignore it and carry on... usually end up fainting. 4 times in a bad year. Only once in the last 2 years and I always know it's coming. Most embarrassing time was in London Dungeons!

2 of my cousins have the same thing - must be a family thing. Everyone panics around me and dh stays calm. Just have to hope I come round before people call an ambulance.

reddaisy · 25/01/2011 20:55

Look after yourself this time then PrincessScrumpy. We don't want you fainting mid-post!

OP posts:
PrincessScrumpy · 25/01/2011 20:59

Grin I think the fainting matches my personality - I love a bit of drama.

I'm off to watch big fat gypsy weddings - love it!
