Lia here's hoping they didn't get any stronger in the car Shock. Looking forward to your post saying it all stopped and you had a lovely relaxing bath... but... if N's with you by now and it's all happening tonight, I'm sending very relaxed, quick, easy labour vibes for you...

Helloooo everyone, Lia hoping they are just for practice and nothing more..

clare hope you are getting on ok with the two boys at home xxx Hows feeding going?

moo Hope wee man is not kicking the hell out of you too much, and youre getting a bit of respite from work....and time to put up your feet xxx

muser how are you and the wee one getting on? All well i hope :)

I am 15+5 today and WOW cant quite believe how i have got here, the time seems to be flying by now. 16 week check and bloods on monday (bean wasnt behaving for nuchal) so hoping of course for low risk.

What are your opinions about Spa-tone? My energy levels are shot.. shattered constantly, in bed for 8.30 pm each night. Should i look for an anaemia test or just take spa-tone every other day to see if i improve a bit?

Hope everyone else is great xx

northerngoldilocks · 18/02/2011 11:02

Hi everyone

Nicks - I was the same re falling asleep by about 8pm until about 20 weeks. Remember thinking that surely the 2nd trimester was supposed to be the best and if this was as good as it got it didn't bode well for the next 20 weeks, but suddenly I felt ok again. I didn't have low iron - compulsive spinach eating seems to keep mine quite high, it was just something that passed for me. Obviously speak to your midwife about it too though. At 36 weeks I'm still feeling pretty good though - no where near as exhausted as I felt in the first trimester - can stay awake until 11pm these days! - although am feeling a little more physically tired in spin classes - think its the extra 10kgs I'm carrying around now though rather than anything hormonal!

lia66 · 18/02/2011 12:09

Still here, Thank god, bh continued on and off all night, had to get up couple of times but nothing too uncomfortable so am hoping just my body getting ready and when it does happen it'll be nice and swift.

Going to a 40th tonight and have to say I'm a teeny bit nervous about dancing, but am just gonna think, hey what will be will be eh?

12 more days it has to stay put.

nickster my mw recommended spatone, although cons said they will keep you at an even keel but won't bring iron levels up. I'm tending towards mw info to be honest and am taking 2 sachets every day.

nothern SPIN CLASSES!!!! Shock good for you, takes me all my time to walk to my bedroom at the top of the stairs, :)

jolls give us a bit of yer brie, usrely a tiny tiny bit at this stage won't hurt.

magic where are you? Am hoping you are birthing babies somewhere peaceful and comfy. :)

I have written dh a list of stuff he can do to help for the hb, ie don't ask me meaningless questions, just offer me food/water etc, that kind of thing. Did anyone else who had a hb do this for their dh? I know mine is at a bit of a loss if he feels stressed and giving him jobs and responsibilities will destress him (she hopes)

Liking the 'list for HB' ideas - will have to discuss these with DH. Also need to stop being 'in denial' and get the pool out of its box and check it - also look for sheets for the floor etc, was worried that the baby might be early so didn't see any point in preparing for a HB as wouldn't be able to have one - but as long as it stays put for the next week its a real option.

Fingers crossed for PV

nickstermum · 18/02/2011 13:28

northern..... SPIN CLASSES....?!?!?! I dont have the energy for those not diffed Grin RESPECT! I wasnt tired at all in tri 1 but lately i just seem exhausted!

loops having the quads done. will talk to the MW on monday. Dont want a home birth [terrified emoticon] but just some energy would be good.

Think you are both very brave home birthing... and you must have a fab high pain tolerance Grin

lia happy shuffling on the dance floor...

Goodness, i feel like a right wizzened old lady compared to you spinners and dancers Grin

My sister is very into HBirthing and has delivered two bruisers with no pain relief. I dont birth babies very well at all and had a hideous time with DS resulting in SCBU for 7 days (term plus 6) so even if i wanted a HB DH wouldnt let me! I would love to think i was strong enough to HBirth and have watched some wonderful hypno water births recently...so i might think about hypno CD's or something.. relaxing during labour is not something i did very well, so need help there!

Envious of those who can birth with no pain relief, thats what i meant by brave Grin

AlbaDeTamble · 18/02/2011 13:41

Nickster Spatone is great stuff... but you do have to take it when you haven't eaten for a while and you're not going to eat for a while... tricky whilst pregnant and permanently hungry! In a glass of fruit juice because the vitamin C helps absorption.
Worked really well for me getting iron levels up mid-pregnancy.

Lia good to hear you're still on track for lovely relaxed homebirth Grin and given you're likely to labour quite quickly, your DH will probably be kept busy all the way through, rather like mine was. But agree the list is a good idea.

lia66 · 18/02/2011 13:42

agree with loopsy hospital freaks me out and makes me want every intervention there is

northern (can't be arsed to find list) when you due? I haven't tested pool yet as like yourself not much point before next week. Will get dh to do dry run once we properly into wk 36, so anytime after next Weds. If it happens before that it'll have to be hosp anyway.

Things on my list for dh are

Do not talk about unimportant tv programmes, other unrelated stuff within my earshot (with other people there, ie doula and mw's )

Offer me food and drink, do not ask If I want it, produce it, If I don't want it, you'll know :)

As loopsy said, do not touch any part of me unless asked to

Keep lighting low and mw's in other room to do their writing etc

Give me something to smell regularly, ( I have a thing about coal tar soap and have applied it to a wash puff, I want to sniff this ) Grin

err, there's more but can't think off the top of my head right now. Obviously, fill and check pool regularly, know where notes are, baby things, towels etc

lia66 · 18/02/2011 13:46

nickster I have only ever birthed once out of 5 without pain relief and that was unintentionally Grin I had asked for epidural but ds1 had other ideas and arrived from slightly uncomfortable to completely out in 2 hours following induction.

This is my first time au naturel and I have to say when I get the really strong bh, I do shit myself worry a little bit :)

I do think Dh will be like yours alba and he was fab on the day so am keeping that image in my head.

Lia - I'm 36 weeks now so as long as i get more into next week I'm good to go at home.

Nickster - as this is my first I'm in the 'totally obvlivious category of what it will be like - which is where I'd like to stay for now. Am lucky in that I'm booked with a fab homebirth team of midwives and they all seem lovely and the hospital is really close by if I do want / need to transfer.

I was adamant I wanted a water birth and whilst available in hospital they're not guaranteed. Probably means I'll never get in the pool at home!

Lotta123 · 18/02/2011 16:17

Nickster definitely do some hypnbirthing. I did a course after NCT classes made me fearful of labour and feel much more relaxed about whatever sort of hospital birth I have!

Just had a membrane sweep and when I used the breathing and relaxation technique I could feel it go from hurting to not hurting at all.

Fingers crossed the sweep works. Midwife said cervix was ripe. I think.

OP posts:
Muser · 18/02/2011 18:01

Hypnobirthing is excellent. I used the Natal Hypnotherapy cd and the breathing exercises really helped me manage contractions and stay calm. Not a painfree birth, and I was using the gas and air a lot. But I never felt I needed anything more than that.

Everything is going ok here. Been having issues with feeding and jaundice but had a long session with the hospital breastfeeding midwife and are working on sorting it out. These early days are bloody hard work. I think we all focus so much on the birth we forget that's the easy bit! So stop worrying ladies, that baby is going to come out whatever you do.

For the list, she weighed 6lb 12oz. I'd really rather not put her name on the list for privacy reasons. MN is a bit public sometimes. Although if anyone is dying to know just msg me!

appleblossoms · 18/02/2011 18:10

Oh magic I hope it's not too much longer for you...really feel for you with such a lot of 'baby' inside! My great aunt had twins 50+ years ago.... one was 8lbs and the other 9lbs!! (something like that anyway) eek!

It does sound like things are beginning to move Lia....here's hoping baby stays put and stops scaring you like this. Tis just not fair on the old nerves!

oooh, 16 weeks for nicks! hurray hurray. It was after that appointment my MW told me to start believing I really was pregnant...still took a while, but it is a real reassurance to hear that heartbeat. FX it all goes well. And good luck with the bloods, hope they give you a nice reassuring result.

What's with all this energetic behaviour going round? Spinning classes?! Think my body would collapse at the sight of them when not pregnant....dread to think how it would cope if I went to one now! Walking with DS to the shops is my exercise Grin

I second the respect for the homebirth brigade....and I'm taking encouragement from it all. I had an epidural with DS, but would quite like to try without this time. They've changed the birthing options here, so I have to go to a new hospital as the local one is only MWled... but the new place has this whole new unit where the MWled unit is on one floor and the normal delivery suite is on the floor below, and I'm hoping to spend my whole time in the MW bit.......but will have to go downstairs if I need an epidural again. So all this talk of homebirthing successfully is making me hope I can survive in the MW unit.... phew, what a ramble!

Sorry, brain's a little awol today. Had a funny turn this morning, had to call DH home from work to look after DS, luckily I had a friend with me until he arrived. I came over really faint, kept feeling like I was about to blackout every time I moved. Lasted about two hours, then I fell asleep and woke up feeling much better. Any one else experienced anything like that?! Don't know whether it was exhaustion, or baby lying in a funny position. Blood pressure was fine, and I'd eaten plenty so wasn't that. Who knows eh?!

and muser glad things are going well, apart from the feeding, but it's good you've got the support there. Makes a real difference.

Any news from pretty??

Ba8y1 · 18/02/2011 19:16

Hi ladies, not up to writing much but thought I owed an update!

Induced Monday for various reasons and went into labour straight away so all good. Anyway after a long time stuck at end of 1st stage and then in 2nd stage with no progress ended up with emergency CS Tuesday afternoon.

So now the good news! Baby boy born Tuesday 15th January, 8lbs 11oz - got home yesterday and he is absolutely beautiful! So pleased he's safely here I couldn't care less how it eventually happened!

Hope everyone else is doing well?!

Congrats Muser!

Take care everyone! Smile

nickstermum · 18/02/2011 19:50

Ba8y Congratulations on the safe arrival of your little baby boy xxxxx How wonderful xxxx
Hope you are at home recovering and enjoying him xxx

muser just gas and air....wow :)

Ok will fess up... i thought homebirthing meant NO pain relief! [dumb emoticon] My labour was very very long and i think loopy the longer it went on the more tense i became and therefore round went the vicious circle! I ended up with a lot of drugs and epidural, and lots of intervention. I would love to avoid all that hideous crap and i would never have had the heroin (DM) had i known it doesnt last long! (although from memory it was quite nice cos i was totally off my tits!) Not only do i have MC issues to worry about I am also fretting a little concerned about a similar experience.

Def hypnobirthing just for relaxation this time as thats where i struggled last time... have watched some really lovely ones. Will have a look out for that CD thanks muser This time i am having a very structured birthing plan and hoping its nowt like the first :) Thanks for the tips :)

lotta good stuff re the ripe cervix, FX crossed.
