I had pregnancy massage with my first they were lovely. The lady was specially trained and used to lie me on my side propped up with pillows do one side then I would roll over and she would do the other. I used to work full time then so I had one a monthly was my little piece of heaven. Cant really justify the expense this time or seem to find the time! I am starting pregnancy yoga again in couple of weeks time as its was lovely mostly relaxation and breathing with some chat :o
My zip up boots have come out of the cupboard again and sandels with easy access straps as yep its getting hard to bend over let alone stay their to do up shoelaces!!

recklesspixie · 13/06/2011 17:20

Misty like ssmile I lay on my side for the massage, would really recommend it and I'm not a "massage person" at all, before this pregnancy a day in a spa would not have appealed to me but I guess I'm changing...!

I do pregnancy pilates every week with a physio who is pregnant herself so it's ideal. We use the birthing ball all the time, mine is an Everest one I think, I think any ball would do Misty, just go into a sports shop and ask for advice. Doing squats with the ball behind your back up against the wall is apparently great in the last few weeks for encouraging the baby deep into your pelvis.

Just been to my doctor for a routine check-up and got to hear the heartbeat, she was amazed that I can't feel much kicking because she could hear regular kicks as I lay on the surgery couch. Was so reassuring, next scan in 4 weeks , yipee, me and DH are always on the count down til the next scan/appointment!

Am considering using cloth nappies, anyone else used them ? everyone has so many different/contradictary opinions on which brands work that it's putting me off.....

ssmile · 13/06/2011 19:36

Had my 28wk check up bloods today. Poor student MW asked if she could do my bloods so I said yes whilst feeling vnervous. She was fine but when I looked after her hands were shaking like mad. She did very well and I figured they have to learn somehow I just glad I didnt look!!

Cloth nappies I would just get a couple of sample ones. Prob wont want to try them until few weeks in once you get established in your routine as they can seem big on a tiny newborn and you have lots to learn in the first few weeks extra washing I figure I could do with out! I do have 4 for at home use I hope to mix and match more this time.

Stase · 13/06/2011 22:59

I used cloth nappies happily for the first two, until I went back to work, and then gave up. It was more of an excuse than a real impossibility to continue with it, plus I had two in nappies at that pint and just thought I'd give myself a break! Grin
I didn't start until the poo was slightly more predictable, i.e. shooting out the sides and up the back less often. Oh, so looking forward to baby poo again...
As this is a 'bonus baby' I've given all my nappies away, but might try for some second hand this time. Funnily enough, we still have most of the newborn stuff in the loft - moses basket, first stage car seat, and friends have returned stuff I gave them such as monitors and mobiles, which is a relief! It all costs so much!

CBear6 · 13/06/2011 23:07

Doesn't it just!? Ordinary black pants? £10. Stick the word "maternity" in front of them and a bit of elastic in the waistband? £30. Same goes for all the baby stuff, it's madness.

I had a sort out at the weekend and have a few bits I can reuse from DS's baby clothes, mainly sleepsuits but thankfully I bought all of his sleeping bags and pram blankets in neutral colours so they can all be reused. I got a brand new cot from my Auntie for £40, it's £220 brand new from John Lewis, she's had her last baby but barely used it so sold it to me and we've just bought a mattress. She's given me a cot mobile and a load of bedding too, plus a small bag of clothes. Our main expense has been the P&T double buggy which we got on the Mothercare baby plan but I got a letter from student loans today and I'm getting a rebate which will pay off what we still owe and leave enough left over for the Moses basket (yay!)

Got my 28 week check next week and I've booked our hospital tour because we're not doing any classes this time round.

Stase · 15/06/2011 21:49

I'm wondering how much of the DSs clothes can be re-used for the DD we're expecting. I'm adamant she won't be dressed head-to-toe in pink. A cousin with two DDs has kindly said she'll pass on some of her stuff as they definitely aren't having any more, but her girls are always pinkTASTIC! Maybe a combo of her hand-me-downs and the boys' stuff will be ok.

For some reason I'm nervous about having a girl. I know boys, I like boys' toys, and was never much of a girly girl, having a big brother and a tomboy mum. The way people have reacted when I say we're having a girl this time (like we've hit the jackpot!) makes me think it must be a whole different world! Can it really be that different?

CBear6 · 15/06/2011 22:44

I get the same thing too Stase, some people seem to think I've somehow succeeded at being a mother by conceiving a girl. It's so annoying. When we found out DS was a DS we got comments like "oh never mind" and "boys are hard work" and "well you might get a girl next time". Poor DS. Thankfully the people who matter still love him.

I've mainly reused sleepsuits and sleeping bags in unisex colours, vests (I only bought white vests when DS was newborn anyway), the neutral coloured blankets (the blue car/boat ones have been packed away), and a few outfits that do both like some cream rompers and plain cotton pants/joggers. I got given some clothes that aren't my taste at all - frills upon frills trimmed with lace and beads and a few more frills for good measure, one of the outfits even has wire in the underskirt netting (never mind the underskirt itself). I'm going to save them for her dolls/teddies when she's old enough.

I've got a loathing of those little headbands that seem to be supplied free with a lot of newborn dresses, like an elasticated loop with a bow or flower on it. They're foul, saw one with a flower on it roughly the size of my fist. Why!? Even worse if baby is bald, she'll just look like a really startled Easter egg wearing one of those.

Stase · 15/06/2011 23:00

Grin at startled Easter Egg.
I would have been perfectly happy with a third boy (after half a day's mourning perhaps...) but I have the feeling friends with girls would have felt very sorry for me!
I just hope this little girl likes train-tracks and robots!

ssmile · 16/06/2011 06:42

Laughed out loud at Easter egg :o I've got DD never did that. She wore mainly neutral for first yr & neutral toys. Then she got given a pink doll when she was one and she LOVED it! I have slowly crumbled to the pink over last 2yrs but now she will dress herself (4yrs) she chooses mix inc blue or green dresses so I feel happy We have a balance. I hoping my mums approach will work. She dresses me in lots pink till i was 7yrs old then I rebelled big time only wearing blue pretty much stayed like that as an adult tom boy who owns 2dresses when needed!. We expecting 2nd girl We think now so I do understand the whole feel comfortable as 'know' how to look after a girl /boy but they r all SO different sure We be fine :o

CBear6 · 16/06/2011 09:02

I've got lots of dungaree style cotton romper sets for the first few weeks/months, lots of lemon and lilac and some blue. I've got a few little dresses in 3-6m mainly because they were on sale or I liked them and she'll be going into that size roughly around Christmas so I decided to buy in advance. My dresses are mainly red, I've got a lovely wintertime one though that's like fawn coloured cord with a white vest and it has green leaves embroidered on the pocket. I'm sure certain people will make this face * because I'm not dressing her "nicely" enough.

I learned my lesson with DS about baby clothes, we bought loads and loads, got given loads as gifts when he was born (and felt bad for the people who bought in advance and got "first size" which never fitted him). We had drawer upon drawer full and even with putting something different on him every day he ended up outgrowing half of it before it ever got to the front of the queue to be worn. When he went into the next size he had a dozen mix and match items and a few rompers and they did us just fine. The only thing I've bought mountains of this time is vests and socks.

jimmijam · 16/06/2011 14:19

had student midwife on her own 4 my 28 week appointment today as the actual midwife rushed off 2 do a home birth!
she seemed rather nervous tho, i had 2 tell her where various pieces of equipment r kept. she didnt know which blood samples 2 take so took them all!!!!!
but i 4got 2 ask 4 my matb1 (tho i doubt she could have helped me tehre anyway), my employer has been bugging me 4 it 4 a few months now and i kept telling them id get it 2day :-o as my next appt isnt until 2 days b4 i plan on going on leave i'll have 2 keep ringing the drs leaving msgs 4 midwife until i get it :-(

CBear6 · 16/06/2011 14:38

Your GP can issue it too Jimmijam, just tell the receptionist and they should be able to get him/her to write it out for you to pick up a few days later.

ssmile · 16/06/2011 20:33

My DD1 was 9lb so she never fitted in the newborn stuff pretty much went straight into 3mths+ suits. This one should be smaller as prebooked c-sec so We may have to get few smaller suits. We mainly had white rompers for first 12wks I had couple outfits given to us but barely had energy to deal with anything too complicated. However this time around it will be different season so will need to get vests n socks this time! Arh the thought of cute Xmas outfits :-)

Sumi76 · 16/06/2011 21:38

Hello All ! Long time no forum for me. Was nice to read all the messages. Glad everyone is doing well.

Im getting a lot of rib and upper back pain...do you think a massage would help ?

We thinking of getting the City Mini for the buggy...any thoughts on that ?

CBear6 · 17/06/2011 09:41

Big baby here too ssmile, DS was 9lb 3oz which was a relief to be honest because they reckoned 10-11lb! MW has said second babies tend to be bigger but my consolation is that I might deliver slightly earlier and girls tend to be slightly smaller. Too much tend and might in there for my liking, I'd like a 7-8lb baby at exactly 40 weeks please :)

I've never used a City Mini Sumi76 but one of the mum's at playgroup has one and she seems to enjoy it. I'm seriously rubbish at prams, when we were trying to decide on ours I played with loads in Mothercare, then I asked my friends (one of them is like a pram guru and is always right in her recommendations), then I stalked random people at the shops who were pushing prams I liked the look of: "sorry, I'm just looking at your pushchair. Is it any good?" - I felt a bit stalkerish but I got some good feedback about all the different sorts.

Strange to think everyone is third trimester now/coming up to the third trimester. Doesn't seem five minutes since everyone was boarding the bus with their BFPs :o

Sumi76 · 17/06/2011 10:15

CBear6 Yes I have become a pramstalker myself...gone are the days when i oogled at good looking men...its prams instead now :)

ssmile · 17/06/2011 13:35

heheeee Pram stalker yep guilty here even if it is the second one! I find myself checking out the ones left outside the nursery when I drop DD off.
I sold my old one so I have upgraded to another Jane but still second hand just more shiny ;-)there appears to be lots more around this time just in a space of 4yrs things change. I will prob swap to a Maclaren again when this one is 18mths as they are SO much easier to use and just sell the Jane again. I like the ease of having a clip on car seat for the first year and robustness then once she started walking my Macleran Volo was excellent light weight, small fold, moveable etc.

CBear6 · 17/06/2011 14:47

I love my Maclaren!

Sumi76 · 17/06/2011 19:17

So tell me ladies, is it bad to keep a newborn in a car seat initially for the first 3 months ? Do I need to get a carry cot attachment for the stroller so the baby is lying flat down ?

CBear6 · 17/06/2011 20:25

I had DS in the carseat attachment when he was newborn because he liked the way it was more close fitting than the pushchair. My pushchair laid flat so I did try putting him in there and he hated it. I think it depends how long they're going to be in there, if it'll be all day or for hours and hours then it would be better to get a carry cot attachment but if it's just shortish trips then it's not that big a deal. DS would be in his while we were out and in that time he would be lifted in and out anyway for changes/feeds/random cuddles, then when we got home he would go either on his playmat on the floor or in his Moses basket (or on one of us for more random cuddles).

ssmile · 17/06/2011 21:44

I agree we switch between sling/carrier & carseat in first few months worked for us ok.

Sumi76 · 17/06/2011 22:41

Thanks CBear6 and ssmile. Was thinking on the same lines !

ssmile · 02/07/2011 14:47

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and not too hot. I loving having a paddling pool out as its so easy to keep little DD entertained whilst cooling my feet :o

CBear6 · 02/07/2011 14:55

Heh, we're about to put our paddling pool up for the same reason! DH is puffing away inflating it and cursing because I've chucked the hose pipe adapter out so he'll have to fill it with the bucket.

Glimmerberry · 03/07/2011 19:16

Hello all, just catching up and so goodto read that everyone is doing well. Horrible reading about all these celebs who seem to have had really late miscarriages during the past 6 months.

I'm now 30+4, gigantic with elephant legs but feeling ok.

Have also been going mad for ice-lollies, magnums etc but otherwise got some good cravings for fruit and citrus flavours. My 5 a day is all fruit and berries.

Struggling a bit for sleep though. Baby been head down for ages and whichever side i lie on i'll eventually get a bit of baby pressing painfully against ribs. Have to wake up, switch sides and then get a bit of relief until it starts again.

Working 4 more weeks, then annual leave for 2...then a long journey south to deliver. Not looking forward to that but really can't wait otherwise. Started a hypnobirthing class and although sceptical it's helping me feel a bit prepared.
