Glad to hear most of you are doing well. have got fairly organised and nursery is now painted (yellow and cream) and had 20 week scan, is def a boy but had to go back 2 weeks later due to measurement probs, have since found out we have increased risk of DS but will not know till the birth which is scary but we will continue and hope for the best. have been getting baby envy of my two neighbours babies (6m and 1m) plus lots of hand me downs from them which is fab. Have last term at school coming up with a sigh of relief and sadness and have booked a hol to spend time with DH before we become a family so lots to look forward to.

Hi another tip for sore hips our physio gave me and its worked for me is to put a duvet folded over under you as you sleep. The extra cushioning has really helped me. I normally have a hard bed with a foam topper as I had bad back post DD1 so was bit scepitcal but its really helped.
With my DD I spent weeks "sleepin" upright on the sofa at a 60% angle as it was the only way to be comfortable, this time round (fingers crossed) I am doing better with the duvet under and the pillow between my knees to ankles.
Good luck with this heat its going to be hard for all of us to get some good sleep!

Dualta · 03/06/2011 14:33

Is anyone eating loads of chocolate and ice-cream, I have just got these ridiculous cravings, just had Magum (third this week). ARGH! (guilt)

recklesspixie · 03/06/2011 18:47

hi all!

had to go to the doctor today cos -TMI alert-my vagina is aching me, really aching, no bleeding or discharge just feels swollen and throbbing. Apparently it's varicose veins in my vulva Sad so pissed off, there's nothing you can do for it except rest and put ice on it, think the sun has triggered it (it's boiling here today). Feeling very sorry for myself, i'm only 25 weeks now and hope to God it does stay bugging me til 40 weeks....

no cravings yet Dualta but looking forward to indulging myself when the time comes Smile.

Have yet another 30th birthday tonight, feel pubs are a test of endurance these days, all that uncomfortable sitting and watching other people gulping back drinks.....God I'm a moan today, roll on September!

exciteddotcom · 03/06/2011 18:48

I got one of those long pillows from amazon, it's been brilliant for helping me to sleep. Although turning over in the night is a bit of a chore!

candr are you a teacher? These next 7 and a half weeks are going to be tough, especially if it's as hot as it has been this week!

Dualta I have been eating LOTS of chocolate and ice cream, it's actually all I want- normal meals are so unsatisfying!!

Have you guys got your names shortlisted yet??

ssmile · 03/06/2011 21:31

Yep just scoffed chocolate icecream ere too :-) my sweet tooth has really come back in last 2wks all my gd intentions are going out the window I keep thinking sod it various things ache I feel tired I must deserve some chocolate :o oh dear I will regret it come October when feel size of house but icecream is SO yum when its hot!

CBear6 · 03/06/2011 21:35

I have a name picked but only a few people know it and are sworn to keep quiet. With DS we told people and had nearly 20 weeks of "I knew a xxx once and he was a right little shit/cross-dresser/klepto/stinker" or "ew, I don't like that name" and so on.

I've been craving cups of tea, usually I hate tea but lately I need at least a cup a day. Tonight though I wanted caramel apple, not like a toffee apple but like a caramel apple bake. This is apparently impossible to obtain in a quiet costal village at 9pm on a Friday night. I can have booze, cigs, probably even a few ounces of crack. But a caramel apple bake? Forget it. And DH made a cats bum face when I bought a pack of Mr Kipling apple pies and a bottle of toffee flavour ice cream sauce so I put them back.

Sciatica has made itself known, I'm in a grot.

ssmile · 04/06/2011 08:02

recklesspixie I hope ur discomfort eases soon I've not heard of that problem before poor you.
My legs & hips feel vbloated I missed my swim this week which has definitely been helping me keep things mobile.

ssmile · 04/06/2011 19:04

Gosh I'm having one of those days when there just feels SO much pressure on my belly button it feels v uncomfortable I can barely stand up. I think the baby lies back to my belly button like she is leaning against me inside as the kicks feel like they going inside. Prob digestion backup a bit too so no room left inside phew

candr · 04/06/2011 19:33

Hi excite, yep teach primary, kids have been really helpful but as they get hot, tired and grumpy so do I. Restless that sounds like a pain in the xxxxx hope it eases off. Am boiling at night as the only thing to stop my legs cramping is a heat pad so am sooo hot. Have really got sweet tooth and am worried I will put on too much weight but a lot of it is ice cream which I keep telling myself is frozen milk really!!! Lots of pressure and big kicks from baby. We have chosen a name and ws really hard when you work with kids but it is quite an unusual one an the only kid I know with it is lovely - not sure my mum will take to it straight away but she is expecting something a 'bit hippy' x

recklesspixie · 04/06/2011 23:18

feeling alot better today Smile hopefully it's something that will just flare up from time to time, my doc was telling me about her sister who had it so bad in her 3rd pregnancy that she had to lie on the couch for weeks and never wants to be pregnant again because of it, think that kinda freaked me out, have 15 weeks left and to spend it on the couch would drive me mad!

candr I'm a primary teacher too, only 3 weeks left for me (I'm in Ireland) and not going back til 15th May 2012, yipee!! my class are so excited about the baby, they're so cute, they write list of name suggestions and give me tips on looking after babies Smile

definately agree with not telling anyone the baby's name now, would hate people giving their opinions, better to tell them after the baby is born when it's a done deal.

been looking at prams recently, thinking of buying the i-candy peach, anyone else looking at the moment? what are you thinking of getting? there are so many options, it's confusing......

CBear6 · 04/06/2011 23:29

We're getting a Phil&Ted's, I need the double seat for DS although he's such a stubborn independent little fella I get the feeling that the second seat will be empty more often than not.

CBear6 · 05/06/2011 09:57

Got given a good pillow tip last night by a friend. Get a single duvet, roll it lengthways so you've got a long column. Wrap a bed sheet around it to keep it rolled and pop a few safety pins in (to keep the sheet closed). Voila! You now have a body length pillow that can be bent/folded/twisted/hugged in whichever way you like and you only have one (giant) extra pillow in the bed instead of dozens.

I haven't tried it yet but I'm digging out the guest duvet to give it a go tonight.

recklesspixie · 05/06/2011 12:48

CBear we were thinking about a Phil and teds too but I don't think I'd be happy putting a newborn in it, it looks a bit flimsy and cold and the baby doesn't face you, I suppose cos it's my first baby I'm worried about everything, I'm sure by the time I have my second I'll probably be happily throwing the baby in anywhere!! Did you use it from birth with your DS?

CBear6 · 05/06/2011 13:04

The P&T's is new for this pregnancy, we need a double so it seemed the best one.

For DS I had a Streety, Bebe used to make it but I think it's MaxiCosi now. It was nice enough, folded really compact and could be used facing either way. There was the option to clip the carseat directly onto the base or to use the actual pushchair seat. I had loads of problems with it though, a manufacturing fault rather than a design flaw so I ended up returning it. I got a Graco Mirage+ from Argos for something like £140 instead. It was nice enough, the carseat clipped onto the seat for parent-facing when he was small and then when he outgrew it the actual pushchair seat was nice and cosy, it could lie back either part of the way or completely flat and had a nice big shopping basket and hood. The only drawbacks were that it was bulky when folded (but the bulkiness made it solid/sturdy when it was up), and it was heavy if I had it loaded with shopping. Other than that though it was a good cheapish buggy/travel system. I've kept the carseat for use this time round. I've got a Maclaren Quest at the minute which I really recommend for older babies/toddlers, I love my Maclaren :)

My brother and his girlfriend are due in September too and they're getting a Quinny Buzz, they tried a load and that's the one they liked, I've heard good things about it and seen loads out and about too. My other brother and his fiancée got the Mothercare Curve and they love it, I've had a brief go of it and it's really nice, looks smart too.

I found the best thing was to go to John Lewis and Mothercare and play with them all to see which felt right.

jimmijam · 05/06/2011 19:19

hello all. after starting this thread off i cant believe how long ive spent away from it!
only read a few of the last posts.
varicous veins in your vulva. never heard of that, sounds horrible!!!!!!
talking pushchairs-we got a mothercare extreme (can use a car seat on case or have it as a pram/forward facing or facing toward you), but i need a buggy board to go on it. the mothercare own brand one (about £50) thats meant to fit, i have read mixed reviews on how well it actualy does fit. i already have a lascal board (fits prefectly on our current maclaren) but will need new connectors for it (just over £20) and according to the lascal website it doesnt fit particularly well on the extreme pushchair. ho hum, still a good few weeks left to get one! (5yr old dd great at walking, but 3 yr old ds heads off in his own direction and doesnt like walking far so will need the board).

anyone else gettting all those stretching and heavy belly aches and pains? i know its only going to get worse so trying to ignore it.
am constantly going to the toilet for a wee now-whenever i walk past someone at work now, or they havent seen me for a couple of minutes they assume im off to the loo!!! :-)
1st pregnancy- didnt know what to expect but was happy. 2nd-was really hard going. this time around (perhaps because i know i'll never b pregnant again) am really enjoying it -
how r u al feeling?
me... excited, tired, happy

bemybebe · 06/06/2011 21:09

"anyone else gettting all those stretching and heavy belly aches and pains"

i do!!!! can be very worrying at times and feels worse when walking long distances. i am abroad now, but will book mw asa i am back, as it does concern me.

ssmile · 06/06/2011 21:46

Vfull heavy tum the pressure is horrid feels like no room. Having bad digestion last couple of days which is causing me lots of problems. I've found the giant tubi grip I got from hopsital physio very helpful when I have to walk anywhere. It gives me an extra layer of support. Really reccommend it to anyone having problems with back / tum / hips. Having to spend lots of time lying on my left over the weekend as can barely stand by the evening. Had half pint of fruit smoothie, 2 peaches and a weetabix for breakfast and vegetable stir fry and salmon for tea. My bunged tum is my only silly fault for thinking just one crossiant couldnt do any harm on sat..Doh! Must learn... Hope everyone else is doing ok?

MSSD · 10/06/2011 07:27

all is fine but am starting to feel the tightness over my stomach. Its only gonna get tighter. I have just realised how much that skin will stretch.AGH.... Went to the midwife the other day and she told me I have really good stomach muscles - she obvisiously didn;t see my tummy before I was preggers. I am hoping some of these muscles magically appear again after birth!

jimmijam · 10/06/2011 20:22

back ache and feeling heavy at the bottom of my tummy. tummy goes hard and is painful when i bend down (picking up after kids etc and why do we drop so much more when its even harder to bend down?!?)
after a couple of minutes walking i really need a wee-even if ive only just been!!!! am only 28weeks, someone may need to pass me the tena b4 the end!!

CBear6 · 10/06/2011 22:17

Jimmijam, I'm exactly the same. I'm trying to train DS to pick things up when I drop them, it's not going too well though!

I've started getting Braxton Hicks whenever I bend down, straightening up seems to trigger them.

I think she's finally turned head down though because I get little flutters low down but the really strong kicks are all along the top. I also get this strange twisting/rotating sensation low down which I'm sure is her turning her head.

ssmile · 11/06/2011 21:13

Think I got opp baby turned head up lots pressure in upper tum lots butterfly kicks n bubbles low down with stretching feeling in middle vodd at times. I preferred big kicks up top was more reassuring. Think she may have had hickcups this week as had rhythmic but odd popping feeling. Getting more pattern to movements now.
Has anyone had to have diabetes test yet? I see my MW Mon for 28wk bloods &hoping I don't need one. I hated it last time baby went mental in my tum &i was really light headed after for hrs.
Hope everyone had gd wk

recklesspixie · 12/06/2011 18:02

hi all,
all my kicks are low down, haven't had any up high even though I was expecting loads, am 26 weeks now but it's my first baby so I've no idea what's normal!
Had a great weekend, ordered an I candy peach, our first baby purchase, so exciting! Got to meet my new nephew for the first time, he's two weeks and so tiny and adorable, it got me really excited, can't believe i've 14 weeks to go, feels so long.
Lots of indigestion here too though Gaviscon really works for me, pity I hate the taste! went for a back massage last week , was so nice, booked 5 and am spreading them out every few weeks til the end.

Misty9 · 12/06/2011 18:34

Hi all

Haven't updated for a while...feels like not much changes at this stage. 28wks tomorrow! In three months we will almost definitely have had a baby! Scary. Getting loads of movement now, although can't really tell which way he's lying - how do people tell that?? DH was lying on my stomach last night and getting kicked in the head Grin. We've made a list now of what else we need, but getting DH to consider actually buying things is easier said than done! It's not even the parting with cold hard cash bit, just the actual thought involved in purchases... Slowly building up our stash of cloth nappies -after a pretty negative experience with one online retailer. It's hard to know what to go for, although we know not to get too many of any one type.

Has anyone else got a birthing ball yet?? I've got SPD so thought it would help with core stability and heard that bouncing from now onwards helps with positioning for birth....but I can't decide where to get one from. Any recommendations? Spent a while looking on t'internet last night - but as usual came away empty handed...

reckless back massage sounds lovely - can I ask how they're doing it? Have they got a special chair with a hole for bump....? I had a spa day booked but they told me I couldn't have a body massage due to the oils they use being unsuitable for pregnancy. Had a lovely facial and shoulder massage though :)

Has a pamper session and painted my toenails today as not sure how much longer I'll be able to reach them... Grin Bump is very noticeable now!

Hope all other sept mummies are well x

jimmijam · 12/06/2011 20:47

mmm back massage sounds lovely!!! thinking about finding out if anywhere near me does them in pregnancy.

same here bout the braxton hicks when bending down, thought i was going crazy, but after it had started to soften hubby said still felt rock solid. not nice, dont remember getting them bending down in 1st 2 pregnancies tho.
hate having to put my shoes on :-( going 2 c if hubby will paint my toenails :-)
