ooh magic poor you! maybe you should try the Piriton? It will def help you sleep and may help the itching? they wouldn't have prescribed it if they didn't think it was safe for you to take? Sending you a large vigorous stratching...

Redheadgal · 18/12/2010 09:20

Magic - Aqueous cream really helped me, but then I don't think my itching was as severed as yours sounds. Really hope you get it sorted out!

As for me... I'm DONE! Last paper given yesterday to a rather disappointingly small audience, but hey, I'm DONE! Just the unpacking (last time!), Christmas and a small matter of a baby to happen now...

Still no idea where I'm going to have her. Have been turned away from two MLU/Birthing Centres despite my consultant writing on my notes 'LOW RISK PREGNANCY'. Going to remonstrate with one of them on Monday and then see my midwife and press for a homebirth. Just worried that at pushing 38 weeks we've maybe left it a bit too late. It would be great if any homebirthers could give me some tips about equipment. I like the idea of a waterbirth (especially since we haven't been able to lay our new wood flooring - seems the perfect time!) - can I hire one, who from, what do they cost? I presume my cmw (providing she is supportive) will have the rest of the kit. Perhaps some plastic sheeting? Anything else I need?

Moo and Viv - glad scans went well. Can't believe they said that about your bean's nose!

Hi to Happy - sorry to hear Ciara hasn't been well and hope the latching on gets easier. And to SamB - always useful to hear how the postgrads are doing.

Hope things are happening at your end Zayja

Anyhow big waves to those at the top - not long now!! And another big wave to those further down!

toomuchteaching · 18/12/2010 13:29

I'm done, I'm done, I'm done! No more school. But then last night I actually had a bit of a cry because I feel really weird about finishing. Bloody hormones. Everyone was so nice, especially considering I've only been there since September, and I just can't picture myself at home all day. Still, I figure I'll have Christmas to distract me and then the small matter of a baby. Still weird though.

It has decided to snow here in abundance, literally 24 hours too late for a snow day. So having wished for it for weeks we've now got a foot and I need this baby to stay put as we can't get out of the village. No symptom spotting here though, well unless you count loo issues (sorry TMI!).

Great news viv and moo on the scans, and that you saw bits if you wanted to (and a nose if not!!)

Sorry about the lack of sleep magic, I too spent more than half the night awake last night, do you get up or stay in bed? I can't decide which is better.

Well done for finishing too RHG.

Big waves to other 37 plussers... a glamourous group name I think. Hope you're all well.

Yay congrats Malteser Hope you get some rest x x

Hope your all keeping well ladies, terrible snow here! How you feeling magic I hope you have been able to get some rest - minus itching you poor thing. Great news viv and moo on the scans. x

Xmas Sad got me christmas sad hat on this morning, had to endure yet another party last night - DH determined to go despite the snow. It tipped me over the edge. Being pregnant/sober with a banging headache with 2,000 p*ssed up party people was a step too far. I lost it and insisted on leaving at 11.45pm. DH had way too much to drink and passed out the minute he got in, I slept on the sofa as the smell of booze was too much for me to stomach.

I'm going to get dressed early, head to the west end for a quite day alone doing some christmas shopping! Sod em all.

Can't believe Christmas is so near - I done nothing! Hope you ladies are little more prepared than me.

Happy Sunday all, have a wonderful day x

Redheadgal · 19/12/2010 09:46

Marvellous news 'Malteaser'! Can't wait to hear all about it! xx

StickThemWithThePointyEnd · 19/12/2010 10:18

big congratulations, malteser :) (bloody hormones, i'm crying at that!) can't wait to hear the details.

sorry about no sleep magic. did you get your bloods back?

littlemiss I sympathise. We aren't really party people, but when I was pregnant with DS (and young and stupid) I had to endure a bunch of those, along with people thinking I'd just LOVE a party for my birthday (27th Dec) and new year, and our graduation party. Needless to say I don't like drunk people much, or parties, or the smell of alcohol. ~hugs~

TMT ~hugs~ and a big yay for maternity leave. crying is allowed. :)

redheadgal re: homebirths, I have a birth pool in a box (the one for tall people), and a plastic sheet. Beanbag and lots of cushions. Towels.
My midwife provides all the rest, shed loads of inco pads and the whole birth kit, of course. And she cleans up after. :)

My interview went fab, thanks for all the good luck wishes. the rejections went out, and I wasn't one of them :o I think I'm going to be a midwife :o
starting to finally feel a little better now, after what seems like forever. had a bit of a scare the other day when I woke up absolutely covered in blood pouring from both nostrils and a little from my eyes (urgh), cue trip to hospital, CT scan and a doc telling me I'm bleeding from my sinuses. yay. that explains the headaches. as I was getting better, they became unblocked and released a lot of blood. but that has stopped now and all is better :)
I can almost breathe without help now!
and I only feel sick in the mornings.

waves pompoms in the direction of the full termers.

Muser · 19/12/2010 11:04

Oh my god Ivy, that sounds horrific! I think I would have a proper meltdown if I was bleeding from my eyes. I'm glad you feel better, but even so .

Congrats on the midwifing too, sounds like you are in. How exciting!

Well, I am 30 weeks today. I'm not quite sure how that happened. Did someone fast forward this year?

CaribouMoo · 19/12/2010 12:09

Ivy that sounds awful!! Did this all stem from your food poisoning? Sounds like something out of a horror movie!

I've been getting horrible sinus headaches, checked my MW notes and I first mentioned them to her at 10 weeks, advice was take paracetemol. Over 8 weeks later I've tried steaming, olbas oil and a charming sinus rinse that I squirt up one nostril and it comes back down the other. What I wouldn't give to be able to take some sinutabs!

Its gotten really miserable now, constant pounding in ears, top of scalp and even the tip of my nose. Feels like my head will explode if I bend down for anything. Went to my GP on Thursday who had a look inside and can see infection up my nose and fluid in my ears.

My choices are keep doing as I have been and taking paracetemol (I don't like the thought of taking painkillers so regularly). Risk taking some sinutabs when no one knows what harm it could do. Or take a course of amoxicillin to clear up the sinus infection.

The GP said amoxicillin is prescribed for pregnant women with urine infections and is relatively safe. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this?

I said I would leave it all for the time being but am getting quite down in the dumps and grumpy with this constant headache and pounding. The GP said if I start to get depressed or suicidal with it to come back and see her!!

CaribouMoo · 19/12/2010 12:17

Also, this subject has probably already been done to death but has anyone gotten the swineflu or flu jabs? My MW hasn't mentioned them to me and the GP was shocked and strongly advises getting them.

I got the swine flu jab last Dec before the MMC was discovered. Although its almost certainly unrelated it has made me hesitant.

Muser · 19/12/2010 12:58

I'm having mine on Monday Caribou. My midwife didn't mention to me either, but I sorted it out myself. I know a a good number of people who've had it and nobody has had any problems. There's a thread on Pregnancy from someone who got flu while pregnant and had to be hospitalised. I think a lot of the recent bad cases have been pregnant women. I just don't want to risk being so ill, it sounds miserable and potentially very dangerous.

Goodluckbear · 19/12/2010 13:34

Congrats Malteaser!!! Can't wait to hear about your little boy, hope you are all settling in ok.

Ivy - that sounds horrific!! Hope you are feeling ok now?

Nothing to report here, no signs, no twinges.

Just a quick hello to all cos am supposed to be putting decs up in dining room. Done my xmas food shop this morning, delivered tomorrow, sent dh and ds1 into town now for goodies and something nice for later.

magic8 hope you are getting some relief from the itching.

Hi to everyone else for now. :)

crochetcircle · 19/12/2010 14:38

Hi All,

First of all congrats to Malteser - its very exciting to hear that babies are coming to this thread at Christmas.

I don't post very often as I normally lurk on my phone but the posting thing doesn't work - its only when I get time at the weekends that I can sit down at the computer and write.

Thanks to all of you who advised me about seeing my heavily pregnant 'friend' so near to my due date. You are all much more courageous than me, and in the end I chickened out and stayed at home rather than see her and endure all her chat. I really did think twice based on all the advice I had here, but in the end I had to follow my own instincts.

Ultimately, I don't think I've finished grieving for the loss of my first baby. I want my due date to come and bring some closure to this, so I can start enjoying this pregnancy and being excited. But I can't force feelings on myself when I'm not ready for them, so I'm not going to put myself under any pressure.

I'm having my 16 week appointment on Weds, and am going to ask about the flu jab then. Its been very badly advertised I think - especially when you consider how often we see medical professionals for ante-natal care, they would just have to mention it was a good idea.

Does anyone know if they will listen for the baby's heartbeat at my 16 week appointment? Can I insist, if they don't? I'd really like to hear it. I'm going to UCLH in London.

Cariboumoo my GP offered me Amoxycillin when I was 10 weeks - that's the medical name for Penycillin. She said its been used on pregnant women for years and so is considered safe. In the end I didn't take it as I was starting to feel better, and sometimes I find antibiotics make you feel worse before you feel better iykwim. And they often give me thrush. So I was stuck between the rock and the hard place, and chose to stay on the rock. Obviously its a personal choice that only you can make, but I would have taken it if I was feeling worse than I was.
