An awful thing to say but my baby scan pic is really ugly! Am quite worried

The 20 week scan pic has my baby in profile and it's not attractive. The lips are very prominent so much so I thought the top lip was the nose, and the nose is just a lump squished on, and a massive one at that. I know all baby scan pics look weird and I know hormones means I will think it is the most beautiful baby in the world anyway, but I am genuinely a bit worried about it. Anyone else have this?

froot loop

StealthPolarBear · 10/09/2010 09:14

It will be fine, I promise! Scan pictures are difficult to make out IMO
I assume everything was fine, and you're not worried about cleft lip?

nikkershaw · 10/09/2010 09:16

oh now i feel bad

penguindays · 10/09/2010 09:16

Not a 'froot loop' - genuine worry. Am name changer though because obviously this is not something I want people to know I think about the baby.

Not worried about cleft lip because sonographer said all fine. And not worried about nasal bone because they think that is there too. Am just worried it will be odd looking. Obviously there are worse things in life than being odd looking, and it's not that I want beautiful children, but really it looks very strange.

Mine was quite frankly terrifying this time. It looks like something that will try and gnaw its way out when the time comes. Its a full skeletal frontal head shot, with fang buds.
When people ask to see it we tell them before we show it and they do a little 'oh, you guys' laugh & assume we are joking.

Then we show them and they go "OH!" and look a bit nervous!

winnybella · 10/09/2010 09:19

Don't be silly, scan pics often look funny-doesn't mean your baby will be ugly.

Rockbird · 10/09/2010 09:20

Finally someone gave me a reason to think that scans are not a good idea...

MrsTittleMouse · 10/09/2010 09:20

Scan pictures aren't going to show you how your baby looks - it's just a picture of a slice through your baby (sorry, horrible way to put it, but I can't think of any other way). So if it isn't through the middle of the head, it will look strange, if the baby has it's head twisted relative to the scan, it will look strange. It isn't like a photograph at all.

You aren't worried about anything else, are you? This sounds like me, fretting night and day over the name, because I didn't want to think about the birth. Anything was better than thinking about the birth. Grin

sedgiebaby · 10/09/2010 09:23

If it makes you feel better, I have two profile pic's from my 20 wk scan in one baby has the face of an angel in the other she looks like a different baby altogether and the mouth looks twice as big, same angle/sonographer etc. it is probably the shot that was taken. Don't worry

PatriciaHolm · 10/09/2010 09:28

Go press your face up against a window, and get someone to take a pic from the other side.

Not attractive, is it?

Well, that's something like what your scan is - a really odd angle through layers of flesh of a head squished against your tummy. Not going to look like an Anne Geddes postcard is it Grin

It'll be fine!

StealthPolarBear · 10/09/2010 09:28

Never mind scan pictures I have the bounty picture of DS on my profile (so a couple of hours old) and can quite clearly see he looks like a red, wrinkled little alien. He was the most beautiful baby ever and is now a beautiful 3 year old :o

spiritmum · 10/09/2010 09:28

It'll be fine. All of my scan photos were very sweet in the sense that they were of my real babies in my tummy! (can never get over how mind-blowing that is) but they still looked like aliens.

I also tried to work out what ds would look like from hiis scan measurements. I think the closest approximation was Ronnie Barker in Porridge. Needless to say he's tall for his age and skinny as a rake.

StealthPolarBear · 10/09/2010 09:30

DS looking, ahem, wrinkly in his Bounty picture and him a few weeks later :o

StealthPolarBear · 10/09/2010 09:31

aargh this was the after pic

EdgarAllInPink · 10/09/2010 09:32

mine all looked aliens in their scans - when born they looked like DH's Granny.

they are, of course, all gorgeous now

doting mother

CaptainKirksNipples · 10/09/2010 09:33

You know they don't look like that really, they are also not black and white, grainy and 2 dimensional incase you were worried about that too Grin

strawberrycake · 10/09/2010 09:36

My ds looks nothing like his scan pic. His scan pic frankly is just a generic fuzzy baby!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 10/09/2010 09:39

my dd looked like she had a huge overbite in her scan pic,she doesn't at all.

PixieCake · 10/09/2010 10:06

There is lots of time for your baby's features to grow and develop. Try not to worry x

cazzybabs · 10/09/2010 10:09

my midwife told me mine was freaky

Miffster · 10/09/2010 10:13

My 12 week scan looked like a Yorkshire terrier in there.Grin

Goodluckbear · 10/09/2010 10:15

StealthPolarBear - he's so cute!! Ha, and I'm unbiased so you can take that as FACT.

ClarasMummy · 10/09/2010 10:16

My Sonographer said my baby looked "Creepy" I don't blame her, he really does. He'll be perfect to me when he chews/claws/teleports his way into the world though Grin

Goodluckbear · 10/09/2010 10:16

(Also meant to say, depends on the angle etc - I think mine had his/her hand up to his/her face, because otherwise it has the largest nose in the history of mankind.)
