An awful thing to say but my baby scan pic is really ugly! Am quite worried

The 20 week scan pic has my baby in profile and it's not attractive. The lips are very prominent so much so I thought the top lip was the nose, and the nose is just a lump squished on, and a massive one at that. I know all baby scan pics look weird and I know hormones means I will think it is the most beautiful baby in the world anyway, but I am genuinely a bit worried about it. Anyone else have this?

I had a 4D scan with DD and although she looked very like DS, she looked nothing like the scan pictures when she popped out 10 weeks later! Also she looked a bit like she had a funny pug nose, but the sonographer explained it was just that the cord was in front of her nose so distorting the scan signal in that area.

Don't worry, your baby will probably look nothing like the scan photos.

MrsC2010 · 10/09/2010 11:07

Mine looked like an alien (cone head, huge eyes, screaming mouth etc) but I can promise that she is completely beautiful in the flesh! (And I'm not just biased!)

Threelittleducks · 10/09/2010 11:11

We got our scan photo for free because the sonographer accidentally got his willy in shot. Which is very funny, as it looks HUGE.

Hoping it is indeed a willy.

Going through names. DH kept suggesting Ron Jeremy Hmm

When I show folk the pic I put my thumb over the willy and look at his cute face instead. It does look kinda cute. Possiby the only time you will ever see inside your child.

kveta · 10/09/2010 11:26

threelittleducks - what was the sonographer doing with his willy to get it in a baby scan?!

teameric · 10/09/2010 12:06

One of the scan pics of my DS caught him side on, and it looked like he was giving us a sly look and evil grin. All he needed was some horns and a pitchfork.

teameric · 10/09/2010 12:07

...thing is he actually still looks like that Grin

Penguin - I worried about my baby being bored and feeling frustrated in the womb, from about 24 weeks onwards. every kick made me think my baby was bored and wanting to be born. I really felt angst for him

I look back on myself now and think 'froot loop', or even 'froot loop plus'!

It is normal to have concerns about everything, so you are of course normal.

Good luck with the rest of your pg.

My step dad commented on how my lo looks like Punch (from Punch and Judy) in the 12 week scan and I realised he was right. Baby has very long chin and big nose! I didn't notice because I'd been so nervous that everything would be okay, and now I just laugh. Not long till 20 week scan and getting nervous again.

lanismum · 10/09/2010 13:34

Dd1s scan looked like an alien, dd2 and ds looked like chimps, really odd shaped heads and jaws, they are all quite good looking now even if I do say so myself Grin
If it also helps, all 3 looked like used teabags at birth, especially ds who had the oddest eyes for about a month (pinched at either corner, and with all eyelashes sort of inside his upper eyelid??) Dont worry, they pretty up!

JeelyPiece · 10/09/2010 14:26

Ha ha I had my dating scan this morning and I said to DH "it looks a bit Munch", then worried the sononographer would think I was going to be a really critical mother.

JeelyPiece · 10/09/2010 14:28

I mean sonographer obviously.

kveta, your ds looks exactly like my little one at that age, but my little one is a girl. She was mistaken for a boy all the time, those dark brown eyes, somehow did it.

he's adorable btw!!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 10/09/2010 14:41

DS has a real 'Ski Jump' nose in his 20 Week scan, i was really worried as i have a very slight one but he is now 5 and there is no sign of any upturned noses. Grin

kveta · 10/09/2010 16:09

piratecat - DS has started being mistaken for a girl now, his hair is all curly and I don't always dress him in blue (evil mother?)

sounds like your DD is gorgeous too though :o (thanks!)

sanfair · 10/09/2010 16:14

Don't worry. DS looked like a baboon in his scan picture. The bottom half of his head looked completely overdeveloped. I was quite pleasantly surprised to get a gorgeous, very normallooking baby.

seaturtle · 10/09/2010 16:19

My friend was given a photo of her son's spine. It looked like she was giving birth to an eel. My father, who is a doctor, couldn't tell what unmarked ultrasound of a body part I sent him. It was my DS's head at his 20 week scan.

I'm sure your baby will be beautiful, OP. We were warned at our antenatal class that our newborns might not look that attractive after coming out of us, but they'd look better after a day or two, but I thought my DS was beautiful from the moment he was born.

sophieandbelly · 10/09/2010 18:23

well my baby scan pic is odd the jaw looks huge!! but u can neber tell dont worry x

Wallace · 10/09/2010 20:13

PMSL at kveta Grin

HeadingHome · 13/09/2010 10:01

Is is wrong that I think baby animals are cuter than baby humans?

I almost feel like I am faking when I am out with DH, see a baby and say "oh - how cute!".

I hope I am drawn to MY baby like I was to our puppies and kittens...Hmm

merrymomma · 05/12/2010 22:26

Thanks for the humor everyone... I just got a 35 week ultra sound ... huge lips, wicked bad overbite, and gigantor nose... I cried when I got home.. Feeling much much better!!!

Mine looked like a crocodile in the scan pic. Looked like a tadpole when born.

All 3 of mine turned into beautiful, really good looking children. This isn't a boast. Parents (including me) have no perspective on how ugly their child is. If you don't believe me look at the next bonny baby competition entries. Some of them are gobsmackingly unattractive. Their parents still believed they could win.

Whatever your child looks like you will believe he/she is beautiful and will spend months looking adoringly at them. Enjoy your baby when he/she arrives.

SparklyJules · 05/12/2010 22:42

How on earth are you all able to look at your scans and tell what is there?!

To me, my scan photos look like mashed potato. And they cost 5 quid each!

My first ever scan was like that episode of friends where Rachel says "I can't see it!". That was exactly what I said. It took the sonographer and DH combined a lot of pointing and gesturing at the screen whilst I just peered at it with a sulky expression on my face. Blush
