Hi everyone,
Thought I would start a thread for all us mums to be who are due in May 2011 so that we can support each other. xx

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hey everyone!

So had my first antenatal class yesterday and I thought it was really good and everyone seemed dead nice and just as lost as me Smile. The only downside was, I felt like a giant with my huge bump, as despite us all being 29-31 weeks, everyone else seemed much smaller than me Sad... Hm, so maybe all these "you're huge" comments were justified after all Wink...

Which hypnotherapy CDs have you guys used? I was thinking of investing in one..

Have a good last day at work tomorrow cowboylover!

Bubandbump · 11/03/2011 07:40

Hi

It's nice to hear how everyone is getting on - sometimes I feel completely unready for an arrival in 8 weeks time and how it is supposed to arrive!

We start intensive nct next week which will hopefully help but are having regular growth scans which are also showing that the baby is a footlng breech and seems quite comfortable there..as I am nearly 32 weeks but the baby is measuring 34 weeks, I am slightly concerned that it is nearly too big to turn and it has never been head down yet..argh

We also picked up the pram and car seat and reality hit that our lives are about to change forever!

JBrd · 11/03/2011 09:16

Oh, I'm jealous that you are all having your NCT classes now, mine won't start until the end of the month! Worrying now that I left it too late, but that was the class that the course finder on the NCT website spit out for us...Hmm

Our house is a mess, we have bulky baby stuff standing around everywhere! Where on earth do you keep a pram when you're not using it?? It takes up so much space!

doodledee · 11/03/2011 10:05

Morning ladies
31 weeks and the latest pregnancy delight is....PILES!! Wondering what else my body can possibly throw at me this pregnancy. 1st pregancy was great but i'm making up for it this time round, varicose veins - and not just on my legs.... eek! sciatica, stress incontinence for about 6 weeks when had awful cough over xmas now the piles, my lady bits look like a train wreck already thats before i give birth, dread to think what'll be left of it all afterwards!! But on the positive side i've got a lovely bump and a healthy wriggly baby so it'll all be worth it in the end :) :)

cowboylover · 11/03/2011 20:36

Had a nice day at work and saved my little cry til I got in the car after!

Came home with arm fulls of cards, bags of gifts and a big teddy in celphane so now my house is over ran but glad to have time off now to finish the nursery and start finding places for all of it to live.

Its coming around so fast now that we will have wriggly babies in our arms rather than our bumps Smile

LabMonkey · 12/03/2011 16:30

Anyone else got crazy water retention resulting in huge legs, ankles and feet? I've been on my feet most of the day today and my legs are really sore and big :(

JBrd · 12/03/2011 17:13

Yes, LabMonkey, me!! For the last couple of days, my ankles have swollen so much by the end of the day I can barely move them. Thursday was scary, I came home from work and sat (or rather, plonked) down on the sofa with a cup of tea, suddenly thinking, my right ankle feels strange. Pull up my trouser leg, and it looked like a balloon! Fortunately, elevating my feet for the rest of the evening helped, but I was still shocked at the extent of the swelling. My job does involved quite a lot of standing at times, as well as sitting at the computer a lot, which doesn't really help.

I have now dug out my flight compression socks and ordered some more yesterday, hopefully they will see me through until May.

Shame though, now that the weather is finally getting warmer Sad

ng1412 · 14/03/2011 11:21

Hi all, haven't posted for a while. Yesterday I had severe period like pains and back ache so we went to the local hospital to get checked out. I was put on a monitor and had an internal (nice) and then told, thank goodness, that nothing was happening. I was worried that either I was going into early labour or that there was something wrong with baby. But everything seems fine and they discharged me about 6 hours later.

It made it feel very real being in hospital with proper medical attention being given. DH commented that we need to finish packing my hospital bag as it could be any time even though I am only 31 weeks!

I now have slight stomach pains and pain under my ribs but I think that's just the way baby is pushing. Not got any swollen legs/hands yet but as the m/w said to me in hospital, I have a way to go yet!!!

Hope everyone is bearing up well. Nearly there...

growing3rdbump · 14/03/2011 11:42

31 wks today! Yay! Packed my bag (sort of) yesterday, although do plan to have a homebirth - got to be prepared for anything! Starting to feel more ready now as finally moved DS's clothes out of our room and in to his own drawers, and the washed/ironed baby's clothes have moved in...! Changing table is up in the bathroom again and just using bottom shelf for storing nappies, cotton wool etc. Got the moses basket out of the loft and that's it - I'm ready! As for storing pushchairs - keep it in the car - that's where ours always ended up and keeps the house free from clutter!
Still have 4 wks to work and can't wait to finish! Feeling fat and uncomfortable and have even made DH move on to a mattress in our room so I can get better night sleep! DS keeps waking up at 6am, so feeling pretty tired anyway.
ng1412 did they suggest it could be Braxton hicks? I've been getting some cramping this time, which has been quite uncomfortable.
Have a great week ladies!

ng1412 · 14/03/2011 12:56

growing they said unlikely to be BH as it was a constant dull ache rather than intermittent pain. But who knows, they put it down to probably being ligament and stretching. All a bit scary, but I felt I was in excellent hands.

cowboylover · 14/03/2011 13:17

ng1412: I was the same a few weeks ago and they looked afte me so well and so friendsly it really has made me feel like I will be in safe hands so I am not as nervous as before about going in to labour there.

Feels odd being home on a Monday and its only my first day of maternity leave!

Has anyone been to Aqua Natal? I have been looking for things to entertain me for the next 9 weeks out of the house.

DH usually has the house to himself alot when hes shifts and im in work so he reminded me this morning that men are like voltures and need time alone so dont stop myself from going out on his behalf, think hes trying to set me up on playdates!

Now 31+1 now and so excited that when people ask how much longer have you got its in single figure weeks! Smile I have got a Harry Potter boxset of books that I have to get through before then as I imagine when the baby arives it will be next year before I get to pick them up again.

growing3rdbump · 14/03/2011 13:37

I did aqua natal in first two pregnancies and loved it. Great place to meet people, keep fit and relax! Haven't really got time to go now Sad

Chrononaut · 14/03/2011 14:40

I'm due 27th may (so 29+3 at the moment)!

Im also 22 and impatient as its my first :P already started packing the hosptial bag and such

JBrd · 14/03/2011 15:04

I only got so far as starting to make a list for my hospital bag so far - trying to gather as much information as possible from friends who've give birth before.
32 weeks today and should probably start packing it!

Ordered the car seat on Saturday, so at least we now have all the bulky baby stuff, still need to buy nappies and formula milk in case the bf doesn't work. Was shocked to hear from a friend that at the hospital I'm going to, they don't like supplying you with formula milk, they have to get it out of a locked cupboard and sign off for it Hmm Apparently, they won a national award for having the highest rate of breast feeding mothers or something and are very keen to keep that up...

Chrononaut · 14/03/2011 15:09

I dunno if its just me that seems to think mums are being way to pressured into breast feeding, yes breast is best, i plan to do it but should i have chosen or chose not to, i dont want to feel slated for it!

are you taking one or two bags? JBrd

JBrd · 14/03/2011 16:09

Chrono - the plan is to have one big-ish bag with 1 for baby, one for me and one for DH inside it...

Completely agree with your comment about bf - if it works, fine, if not, then not.

funnylittlekaty · 14/03/2011 18:52

Had a day off work today as I had a whole day of NCT. It was the ladies only day...boy do I know a lot about childbirth now. Here's a TMI for you...after you give birth you could possibly pass blood clots the size of a satsuma! Yikes. It was so nice being at home this morning before class started. Cannot cannot cannot wait for maternity leave to start. 4 more weeks to go! Ooof x

Marabou · 14/03/2011 19:09

Ok, I did not need to know that about childbirth Grin!

Good to hear you had a nice class though Katy.. After the MW at my antenatal class showed us how the baby needs to twist and turn his/her way through the pelvis, everyone was convinced that an elective caesarian would be the way to go Smile...

growing3rdbump · 14/03/2011 20:00

I've done it twice already and didn't know that!!! Thanks Katy!!!

I have only semi-packed one biggish bag and that's all I'll take (if I end up having to go to hosp). I only intend to pack the basics really as things can be bought after baby's born if anything is forgotten.

JBrd - sounds like you'll be well supported at your hospital for BF, so hopefully you wont have any problems. I remember trying to feed my first and the midwife saying "well you have to get this right before you go home" - Thanks a lot!!! Despite that I did manage to feed her for 8 months and had no problems.

LabMonkey · 20/03/2011 19:22

The 2nd antenatal class was interesting. It seems that locally low intervention is encouraged which is fab but they didn't do any of the guilt tripping about medical pain relief either which was nice. We've got the 3rd and final class this Thursday which should cover the stuff I'm really not sure about - what do you do with the baby once it's actually out!

I was also wondering if anyone else is struggling with heightened emotions? I'm not sure if I'm being over-sensitive or if I'm actually just mightily pissed off about the way I'm being treated. I'm getting really upset about my MIL insisting on visiting for 3-4 (possibly 5) days and staying with us (even though we'd agreed that neither of us wanted anyone to stay over with us for the first couple of months). She's basically gone against everything we've asked and DH is accepting it and making me feel unreasonable and awful for wanting to stick to what we agreed. It seems I'm just the incubator and shouldn't have any thoughts or feelings about anything :(

Marabou · 20/03/2011 22:27

Hey there! Sorry to hear you're having problems with your MIL and DH. I don't think you're being unreasonable for wanting to stick to what you guys originally agreed on. After all, the first few months after the baby comes are stressful enough as it is and I don't think it would make it easier not being 100% comfortable in your own house. I can understand the grandparents wanting to spend as much time with the baby as possible, but at the same time I think it's important that you all feel comfortable with how that's arranged..

On another note though, I'm definitely struggling with feeling really low and stressed out. I suppose it's also due to being extremely busy at work, but I find myself not coping with it very well and I'm not getting enough sleep Sad..

cowboylover · 24/03/2011 21:31

Lab: I think you are being very reasonable and wanting to stick with what you had already discussed. Have you talked about it again yet?

I am having a total crisis of confidence and rational me knows that it is just made harder by being over emotional but how ever rational I am trying to be the crazy inner crying lady keeps jumping out! Today it was when do I know what to do and what if I can't do it, as DH said I will know because it will be like nothing else and if it's not it will just be a false alarm and no one is going to be angry with me if it happens and I will be able to do it in whatever way happens as she can't stay in there! I was so annoyed with myself for wanting her out now and having a c-section with a date and time; how can I be so silly as to wish for a premature baby and major surgery Sad

LabMonkey · 25/03/2011 09:15

I think it's got to that point where we've all been pregnant for what seems like forever so I think wanting to get onto the next stage (actually having the baby) is hopefully normal. Everyone's convinced I'm going to be early so now I've got that in my head I just want to get on with it!

We had our third and final antenatal class last night which was interesting - only 10 people out of the original 30ish. It was all about what to do with the baby once it's actually out so was helpful. Olive oil seems to be the main suggestion round here for pretty much everything although mainly for stopping the meconium sticking. Must remember to put some in a bottle for my hospital bag!

I'm feeling a lot less emotional this week and as MIL has train tickets booked there's no point getting upset about it - we'll just have to tough it out at the end of May!

I'm actually off work today as I have a killer sore throat and I was meant to be heading into London to run a meeting. Given that I've been told off twice now by the MD for going to a meeting in London last week when I was feeling fine I though turning up today all sneezy and husky wasn't worth the hassle. It does mean that my maternity cover gets her baptism of fire today although the meeting shouldn't be too aggressive so hoping she'll be ok - I've sent her with tonnes of info.

Now to wait for DH to get up at lunchtime (he was on nights he's not just lazy!) then to drink honey and lemon in the sunshine.

JBrd · 25/03/2011 09:31

Glad to hear you're feeling more upbeat, LabMonkey (apart from the sore throat, of course)! Just read your earlier post about you being upset about MIL going against your wishes - you have my full sympathy! We actually haven't talked about this yet, but I'm wondering if we should actually tell anyone in DH's family when I go into labour... They are all really nice, but I don't want them invading before we had a good chance of meeting LO first! My family all live abroad, so no problem there Grin. I am hoping for DH to defend me - why did yours change his mind? Hopefully, your MIL will chip in and actually help out when she's there!

I finish work next week and can't wait, I'm getting so tired and exhausted now. Frantically working on getting everything ready for the handover, and panicking I won't get it done.
Still need to decorate the nursery, meaning that DH has to paint it. We've also finally decided to get new carpets for the stairs and landing, and I'm wondering a)how soon they can do it and b)should we bother when we'll soon have a someone around with a tendency to loose fluids from every orifice...? Ah well, there's probably never a good time.

I also think I've developed SPD Sad, with pain right between my legs that makes walking and getting up from a chair/bed/car v. uncomfortable. Will have to talk to the MW on Monday, see what she says.

NCT starts tomorrow, 3 whole Saturdays in a row of being bombarded with baby preparation! I'm curious what it will be like, I've heard a lot of different things about the NCT...

growing3rdbump · 25/03/2011 11:39

Argh to all the MILs out there!!! Grin

After DD was born my in laws were waiting outside delivery suite to see us going up to the ward and then stayed a bit to say hello. A bit annoying, but I wasn't too bothered at the time and they have generally been fine over the years if I manage to ignore the annoying things they often say...!
DH stupidly let them know I was in labour and then that DS had been born (at home) as they turned up outside the house less than an hour after he'd arrived Angry. Couldn't believe it!!! Told DH to take the baby in the back room and show them and then ask them to leave (I hadn't even had a shower by then!). Will make sure he makes it clear when visitors are welcome this time!

2 weeks left to work (which is only actually 4 days as I'm part time) Cannot wait!
