Planning to see how the next week goes before going back to nursery. DS is 2 years and 9 months. Can wee and poo in potty, knows when he's going and tells us, and is going an hour or two between wees so I think he's ready. One accident so far.

I'm struggling with this now dh is going back to work. It's hard staying at home because the other dcs are climbing the wall. It's hard to go out because if dd2 needs a wee shave to round up her brother and sister first to take them all together by which time it's too late. Not sure what to do today.

SnugglySnerd · 30/12/2019 07:21

I have to, not shave!

newhousestress · 30/12/2019 08:35

Woke this morning, nappy off, BOOM, big wee in potty! Great start to the day. Grin

@SnugglySnerd I would just go out, either after he's wee'd or had a accident you've probably got an hour to go to the park or something? I have a bag with a potty, spares, wipes, kitchen roll and if there's an accident there's an accident!

Sorry you've got a DD BlushBlush

Thanks. Will be brave! Dd also did a massive wee in the potty just after taking her nappy off this morning. Also nappy was dry! She has never woken up with a dry nappy before. She didn't wake in the night either. She must have a strong bladder!!

itakephotos · 30/12/2019 10:15

Sounds like everyone's doing well!

No nappy from 8 this morning when she got up. Big wee on the potty at 10 while I was out of the room so she definitely knows what to do!

Not looking forward to staying in all day but at least there's lots of new toys to play with!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/12/2019 10:18

We’re on a roll everyone- wee and a poo in the potty over here- I’m dying to go out so legging it to The park now!

Grandpoplar · 30/12/2019 10:38

Well done on this morning’s successes!

Starting again today - though my son still seems reluctant...let’s see. He’s always been stubborn and resisted each milestone!

LolaLollypop · 30/12/2019 10:47

Following with interest. Daughter is 2yrs 4 months. Can happily do a wee on the potty or "big girl toilet" when she feels like it but sometimes refuses too. Started trying to force/push her (not in a mean way!) But realised it was having the averse effect so just ask once/twice now then if she says no change into clean nappy pants.
Attempted "big girl knickers" once but just ended up chucking three pairs away with various accidents in them. Think she may need a bit more time.
I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant with no2 so would really like not to have two kids in nappies!
I might try again at the end of Jan when I start my mat leave. Thankfully nursery are really good so will ask them for advice when she goes back.

Can I join?

We started 4 days ago with my 2.5 year old. Not been great.

Day one he was fantastic. Actively told us needed to go and had just one accident.

Day two, disaster. Several accidents.

Day three, good until lunchtime. Mix between telling me and me asking him. No accidents until lunchtime then it went pear shaped.

Day four (today), not telling me and saying "no" when I ask if he needs to go. Only one wee so far and it was in his underwear.

Help!!!

blckcurt · 30/12/2019 10:56

Spoke to soon!

Literally as I pressed "post" he said "I NEED THE TOILET" and RAN to the stairs (we are doing toilet, not potty). He then proceeded to do a wee which was much bigger than he has done so far. Even he said "that was a big one" Grin

SnugglySnerd · 30/12/2019 11:05

Using the oven timer to signal half hourly potty stops. This is working better than me telling her! No accidents so far this morning but she hasn't drunk much either.

ChristmasCarcass · 30/12/2019 13:45

Not quite so good today - woke up, sat on potty under duress/bribed with Smarties and did a small wee, and then did a massive wee in his pants 45mins later. Next wee was in the toilet, then asked for a nappy shortly afterwards. 20mins of increasing agitation on the potty, then we caved and gave him a nappy which he immediately did a poo in. Having his nap now.

I don’t really feel like this is clicking! More like I am happening to catch pee intermittently Confused

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/12/2019 13:58

Hi blckcurt - that’s good! It’s nice when we are surprised in a good way.

We managed to get to the park for an hr, back and have lunch before DD needed to pee- she isn’t verbalising I can just see she grabs at herself so I stuck her on the potty. Napping now- see what the afternoon brings.

Grandpoplar · 30/12/2019 14:28

No progress today :( We’re going longer in between wees but none of them in the potty. I’ve got him sitting on it now drinking juice in the hope that we’ll catch one!

My husband thinks he’s not ready and thinks we should wait. He may be right but I’m determined to keep going for at least another day. It’s hard to stay motivated though. On the positive side, my boy isn’t upset by the potty today.

blckcurt · 30/12/2019 14:30

Thank you @OnlyFoolsnMothers it wasn't all good though, he did a poo in the corner! Haven't seen anything quite like it, he was on all fours, horrified that he pooed! Grin

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/12/2019 15:20

Grandpoplar no don’t give up. Are you trying a specific method? I’m following oh crap potty training- not saying it’s fool proof and I only started a few days ago but I just find following a plan easier for me mentally.

Sunshineandsprinkles · 30/12/2019 15:31

Can I join?! Useful to hear what you're all going through at the same time!
Day 2 of potty training DS (2.9 months). A few wees, one poo on potty and lots of accidents!

newhousestress · 30/12/2019 15:46

Hello to @Sunshineandsprinkles @blckcurt @LolaLollypop I'm glad I started this thread, it sounds like we all need the mutual encouragement!

@Grandpoplar hang in there, it is very very early days, in let's face it is a 2-3 month process of going from nappies to being dry.

OP posts:
SpicyTomatos · 30/12/2019 16:06

I started two weeks ago and it seems to have gone reasonably well so far. Only tip I would offer is to wait and not be affected by comments by others about still being in nappies. My son is 3 years 2 months and I think the age has helped. But who knows, maybe it will all go downhill now!

Grandpoplar · 30/12/2019 16:11

Thanks for the encouragement - we had our first successful full wee earlier - he did a little dance and sat on the potty and managed to get it all in. How we cheered!! He was very pleased with himself. It’s given me some encouragement.

@OnlyFoolsnMothers I’m not following a particular method, we’re staying indoors in pants and prompting him to sit on the potty in intervals, around every 45’-60’ today.

Grandpoplar · 30/12/2019 16:12

When I say ‘we’re staying indoors in pants’ I’m just talking about my son of course, I’m not joining in Grin

Sunshineandsprinkles · 30/12/2019 16:25

When do they start actively saying they need a wee rather than being prompted? I know we're way off this yet, just curious!

blckcurt · 30/12/2019 16:27

@Sunshineandsprinkles I think at any point tbh as mine is a combination of him telling and and us prompting him too
