Hi all

My ds is 3.1 and has been interested in training for ages. We’ve had a few attempts but not very successfully.

Tried again today - bottoms off and naked from waist down then drink, then after twenty minutes prompted!

He popped on potty and did tiny wee. Huge applause from all then we went down loo, hands washed, chocolate button awarded.

Then five minutes later huge wee all over floor.

Is this normal? Without prompting he seems to have no sense of needing to go - but he’s getting old for potty training.

Any ideas - just persevere?

That sounds great. You may still get accidents but trying to keep relaxed about the whole thing is key. I put so much pressure on ds1 that it was a nightmare. Ds2 and ds3 were so much easier as I was much more relaxed. Well done!

Since he’s been dry more or less today I might venture out for mother’s day tomorrow but will take potty with us!!

I’m still not sure what to do about preschool but I need to talk to them on Monday morning.

They aren’t a day nursery so don’t have tiny ones and don’t really potty train.

I think if I send him in just in trackers he could easily have multiple accidents (like if he’s in playground and needs wee he won’t be able to hold it to ask teacher and go back inside) and he’s only been to the preschool a few times so it might mess up how settling in Confused

I toilet trained my eldest in October and it is a little harder as more washing but your lo is doing do well. I agree with pp, I'd keep pull ups for bed time only now. Use puppy pads in the car and take a potty. Nursery are used to accidents, it happens. Maybe get some cheap joggers at the charity shops or primark to have as Spares there

Onceuponatimethen · 10/03/2018 20:44

I could take in some extra trackies.

I am really torn - will speak to preschool but have a feeling they will say they want pull ups this week and then I train him consistently at home weds thurs fri sat sun next week then no pull up next week.

So just recapping for myself to help me decide what to do next!

We took nappy off before morning wee at 6.30 am, ds did that on potty with priming and went again at home later without any prompting. Then out today at 8 for mother’s day Brek and just reached home.

In that time he’s done 3 wees in potty while out and about and had one accident (a poo in his trackies).

So generally things are going v well, but he was v upset about the accident.

Heading home and of course still planning to keep nappy off and keep the practice going.

But not sure what to say to preschool tomorrow - will decide based on how the rest of today pans out!!

Sounds as if things are going well! Poor DS with the accident though.

I'm not sure what I'd do about school. As an early years teacher, I know they can't refuse him in nappies or not in nappies. They shouldn't insist on pull ups because that's so confusing for your DS. Personally I'd send him in with no pull up and plenty of loose bottoms. Is it a full day or morning?

LambMadras · 11/03/2018 17:47

He's doing great. Send him in no nappy. Plenty of changes of clothes. They should be used to this and will support you by reminding him to go a lot.
If you put a nappy on him it's a step back in my opinion.
Keep us posted

It’s just a morning luckily!

Thanks guys. So I kind of agree about maybe sending him in not in Pull up. He’s been out of nappies from 6 until 7 pm and in that time had the one poo accident and no wee accidents.

We’ve been out and about a lot today - playground, pool, cafe and I took potty everywhere. I did remind a fair bit but he also self initiated a lot.

Very proud of ds today - no wee accidents all day, including at preschool where they let him come in trousers without pants/nappy Grinunderneath

Pat yourself on the back. You're getting there.

Onceuponatimethen · 12/03/2018 20:42

Thanks gussy - no more nappies in day time ever now and just pooing to crack and lots more practice. We have a week more at preschool after this one then the easter holidays so I’m hoping he will be really in control of all this when he comes back after Easter

teaandbiscuitsforme · 12/03/2018 20:49

Wahey!! So pleased preschool went well.

No more nappies! 🎉

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 13/03/2018 07:41

Fantastic op, think both youband ds deserve a treat Wink . From my experience its more common for poops to take a little longer with boys especially.

Just a quick update for myself really!!

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday no wee accidents. He is still having one poo accident each day though which upsets him poor child Sad

Onceuponatimethen · 14/03/2018 10:40

Today he did have a wee accident - forgot to say!! He got very engrossed playing football with childminder at drop off and then forgot to go to potty.

But I guess at this stage three full days with no wee accidents at all is actually pretty good

OP posts:
Onceuponatimethen · 14/03/2018 10:41

I still have him in trackies but no pants as recommended in oh crap and that does make poo accidents a bit nightmarish

Debating whether to go to pants as well Confused
