Hi all

My ds is 3.1 and has been interested in training for ages. We’ve had a few attempts but not very successfully.

Tried again today - bottoms off and naked from waist down then drink, then after twenty minutes prompted!

He popped on potty and did tiny wee. Huge applause from all then we went down loo, hands washed, chocolate button awarded.

Then five minutes later huge wee all over floor.

Is this normal? Without prompting he seems to have no sense of needing to go - but he’s getting old for potty training.

Any ideas - just persevere?

Elated here because he’s just done another wee in the potty - still a small one but no more accidents so hopefully he’s starting to learn to keep an eye on when he needs to go!

Just saw yours tea - thank you so much

I think he’s got it but he physically struggles to get into potty with trackers on. Should I get him to completely take them off or is that creating a bad habit eg for preschool?

Also I think he’s now worried about having an accident so he’s going constantly to check if he needs to go but I’m guessing that’s not really a bad thing?!

Ok he did he need to go and has done another potty wee but still needing help to get into potty once bottoms are down (he’s running over and pulling them down alone!)

Not to throw another spanner in the works but would he have less issues with trousers if he was using the toilet and a step? Is it being scrunched up on the potty that's causing the issue?

I definitely wouldn't take them off completely because it would be a nightmare then any time he's got his shoes on.

Onceuponatimethen · 08/03/2018 14:00

Yes it is! But he’s scared of the toilet at the mo even with the special seat so I think I’m stuck with the potty

He’s had another accident because he was playing and forgot to go. We are now on trackers #3 - 2 accidents and three wees in potty.

I hope still normal Confused

We used ‘dry like me’ pads for a little bit of reassurance when we were busy with the other dc out and about. I also loved my pottette plus and still used it for camping until quite recently! Your ds will get it, it is hard to be patient though!

Onceuponatimethen · 09/03/2018 14:36

I’m thinking about buying dry like me pads! Thank you for recommending - they look great.

So far we’ve had one wee in potty and one accident since lunch!!

Two wees in potty and one accident now! Just charting this to keep myself motivated!! About to go on school run which is a long drive so have to put pull up back on but has been good to pratice again with him today

I’m still waiting for things to really click but he is getting much better at getting his bottoms down and up and manoeuvring onto potty

Tomorrow is stay at home and just do potty training day

I need to stop myself prompting too much. Dh pointes out tonight that I was doing little ds’s head in with it this evening and that it’s ultimagely going ti be counter productive as it could put him off

Well done for getting this far!

From your posts, I would say you definitely need to back off a bit now and trust him a bit more. So rather than a day of potty training, have a fun mummy and DS day and try to give yourself a break as well!

I'd say no more nappies now unless he's asleep. For me, we'd have to be travelling for well over an hour for me to put a nappy on now. Otherwise, wee in the potty before you go and trust him! Take a potty in the car and remind him it's there but IMO putting pull ups and things on from now is going to get confusing for him.

Also, if you think he needs to wee, don't prompt. Just say something like 'I can see you need wee. The potty is right there when you need it.' And then walk away! Give him the chance to show you.

Hope you have a good day. Keep it low key!! Smile

Yes you are so right Tea - actually read your post to dh and he said yes this is what I’m saying!!

Managed to get him to do his first morning wee in potty today - took nappy off and suggested and he did it - yay!

We are still having lots of accidents - just trying to keep reminding myself that this is normal!

Just keep going, just keep going!

Hi to your DH! 👋

Onceuponatimethen · 10/03/2018 14:52

Right I think it’s now clicking - he’s running to the potty by himself without any prompting and pulllig his pants down and going - no accidents since 10.15 so I think we really are getting somewhere!!
