We're going to start potty training DS (2.8) on Saturday. Is anyone else starting then too?

Grin at Mother. Weetabix is no good either Sad

TheScreamingfrog · 20/05/2013 22:07

Hi mothers and jollyb!

We are going pretty well here. The only accidents now seem to be caused by us iykwim.

And 2 dry nights.
Although we had a friend round for a play date today and I just seemed to spend all day taking them to the loo!

motherofvikings · 21/05/2013 08:42

Wow that's great screamingfrog Grin

First full day of no nappy here. I'm feeling stressy about leaving her out of my sight for more than a second! Blush I must relax! Confused

motherofvikings · 21/05/2013 10:09

Urg! I HATE being on tender hooks (?) waiting for the next wee (or worse!).

Any top tips for getting rid of this horrible stressy feeling? Confused

motherofvikings · 21/05/2013 13:52

Well this morning included
2 wees in the potty
1 poo in pants - I think she is starting to recognise the 'pre-poo feeling'
AND a nap with no nappy! Confused

I thought I might as well give it a whirl and see what happened...

mikkii · 21/05/2013 18:36

Welcome to motherofvikings and jollyb.

I missed you all yesterday, long day at work then out last night. I've no idea how yesterday went. Today we have had 3 wee accidents. She doesn't allow enough time to get to the loo, and mum doesn't move as fast as me. She seems to let the wee go as you pull her pants. Unfortunately she doesn't respond well at home to prompting, I think they must prompt at nursery, but perhaps it is seeing everyone else going?

Hopefully a better day tomorrow.

WhispersOfWickedness · 21/05/2013 19:25

DD had a good day today, no wee accidents apart from her nap, and an unprompted poo on the toilet Grin wees are about 50% unprompted now, so that is improving too Smile

Hang in there for a better day tomorrow everyone! Thanks

motherofvikings · 21/05/2013 19:45

Mikkil - ds was the same when he started. I have no idea what sorted the problem other than time. :)

Whisper - the unprompted wees/ poos are great! :) well done!

Dd finished the day with

  • one wee accident - most went inthe potty but we were outside so didn't get there in time.
  • one slight poop accident. She had been back and forth to the loo and producing nothing but farts for a while then suddenly ran off. She had a small poop in her pants. I put her on the potty, explained there was probably more poop coming and after a bit of slightly panicked moaning she did it! Grin Shock

She has started really well (touch wood) and has had a few unprompted wees/ poo.

I am feeling exhausted though - being tense all day is draining!

WhispersOfWickedness · 21/05/2013 21:34

Mother - sounds like she's doing brilliantly! I know exactly what you mean about the stressy feeling, I get that too, although I am a lot better than I was with DS and even find myself forgetting on occasion that DD is in pants ShockGrin

TheScreamingfrog · 22/05/2013 11:01

Wow, we are all going really well!
We seem to have wees sorted but poos are a bit of problem - mind you they have been a little soft so I wonder if she has had a slightly upset tum?!
Mother, I found that after a few days you just relax without worrying about it. What's the worst that happens? A little wet patch or a poo patch. Or... As happened to my childminder at toddlers yesterday, a poo unnoticed whilst playing that ended up being smeared over a host of toys!
So glad DD was not in my care at that point Grin

motherofvikings · 22/05/2013 11:24

Eeeeek! To unnoticed poo frog! Shock Grin

Dd did really well till a poop arrived with speed. :( luckily we were in the kitchen! Phew! She managed to hold the wee until I grabbed the potty as I had already shrieked "don't move!" Once I saw the poop!

I think I might ban anything with fibre for the next few days as my dc always tend towards loose poops! Blush

motherofvikings · 22/05/2013 11:25

Oh an I'm starting to feel a bit more relaxed too which is good! :)

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 22/05/2013 13:51

Everyone's making lots of progress from the sound of things Smile.

DS is doing really well, and even woke us up at 4am so he could have a wee! So maybe he's nearly ready for night training too? We're planning to keep an eye on nighttime nappies for dryness for a while.

WhispersOfWickedness · 22/05/2013 18:55

Great to hear everyone's having some good progress Grin
Shock At the unnoticed poo though, that is my worst case scenario when potty training Shock

Bit of a disappointing day here, three wee accidents, including the one when she was having a nap. Poos seem to be fine though, it's like she has switched Confused

motherofvikings · 22/05/2013 20:50

Grin dd had a totally dry day today! All wees in the potty! Grin

She managed a potty poo too this afternoon! :)
Unfortunately though her poops have been ultra loose so she had another poo accident after dinner.

Pineapple for breakfast was definitely a bad idea, but I'm also wondering if she is picking up on my tension and its given her a funny bum. I have a nervous tummy/ bum so dc may well have too! Blush

motherofvikings · 22/05/2013 20:54

Whispers - I'm sure ds did the switching trick when he was learning! I think sometimes new skills get pushed out their heads temporarily as they oil up other new skills iyswim. :) Well done to your dd though!

Itsall - sounds like he's doing really well! :) My ds was dry at night within days of him 'getting' PT but I held off night training. Partly through fear of changing the sheets in the wee small hours and partly because I didn't want to overload him! Fingers crossed he'll be out of nappies completely soon! :)

motherofvikings · 23/05/2013 07:14

You know you're potty training when the dc are eating haribo before 7am!

Ds seems to have muscled in on the rewards. I had planned to just give then to dd (ds is 4 and PT for 2 years almost) but he is SO encouraging of dd - he's like her own personal cheer squad! :)

very useful when I'm flagging or still half asleep!

Jergens · 23/05/2013 08:09

Can I join in please?
Starting DD today. She's 2.6. Peppa Pig pants are on and we are staying in all day... I've also got a 6mos old DS who breastfeeds loads so it might be tricky when DD needs the toilet NOW!
I have a bit of a nervous tummy! Wish me luck! Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 23/05/2013 08:24

Welcome Jergens Grin

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 23/05/2013 08:26

Hi Jergens Smile, good luck today.

I must be a slattern not very houseproud as I don't worry about accidents too much! A wipeable floor probably helps though.

OP posts:
Jergens · 23/05/2013 09:21

Thanks for the warm welcome! It helps to have company!

Two pee accidents so far. DD seemed genuinely surprised that she felt wet when she peed. She then didn't want to sit on the potty. Quickly resolved by resorting to CBeebies...

Hope you're all having good mornings Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 23/05/2013 11:26

Mother - that is so sweet about your DS Grin

Its - yes, I would be far more chilled with a wipeable floor too, our carpet is ruined, no matter how much carpet shampoo I have gone through Sad

Doing ok here, nearly had a disaster earlier as she announced 'weeee!' as we were waiting outside preschool (who were late opening Hmm) but thankfully she managed to hold it until we got inside to the loo Grin she's having a nap now, she hasn't managed a dry one yet this week, so we'll see...

Jergens · 23/05/2013 12:50

Whispers - close call! Well done to your DC for holding it in.

We're having a rough time. 7 pee accidents so far (that's the bit I can deal with). But DD is refusing to sit in potty or toilet now. She says she wants her nappy and doesn't want big girl pants :(

Not sure what to do. Should we persevere or pack it in for now??

motherofvikings · 23/05/2013 17:06

Well so far dd has got everything in the potty - there was a small dribble en route to the potty but most went in there as she stoppe weeping and held on. :)

However there have been NO poos! Shock I am now on edge waiting for it and hoping she can get it in the potty! Confused

Jergens - how's it going? Is she still reluctant? If she wasn't showing strong signs of being ready I'd be tempted to leave it maybe. Although she might change her mind if she has an accident?

motherofvikings · 23/05/2013 18:58

Urg! Waited all day for dd to poop, go to get the dc's milk before bed and that's when she goes. BLEURGH!

I know this is only the third full day of PT so it's still very new for dd bit I am already sick of poo pants and clearing up! :(
