We're going to start potty training DS (2.8) on Saturday. Is anyone else starting then too?

We're starting on Sunday (out tomorrow) with DD who is 2.4. Smile Am feeling pretty nervous and still a little bit unsure of what method to take - cold turkey or session style? Nappy during naptime or not? DD has a long nap in the afternoon (usually up to 2 hours if she's really tired) so I'm not sure how to handle that. Hmm

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 10/05/2013 22:35

Yay, company!

We're going cold turkey, pants on only for most of the w/e. Nappy on at night obviously, but I'm not sure about nap times either.

Oh well, at least we'll get lots of house jobs done Grin.

And so it begins...

2 prompted wees so far. Some got out if the Pourty Potty.

Good luck! We are starting this morning with DD who is 2.10. Day in the conservatory I think...

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 11/05/2013 09:21

Good luck to you too Frog.

We've had a few prompted wees (we're asking every 30mins), an asked for wee(!), and a small wee in pants so far.

Luckily, we have a (horrible) laminated floor Grin.

TheScreamingfrog · 11/05/2013 12:17

Great start!

We have had one where she asked and sat on the potty but forgot to remove her clothes - counting that as a success! Apart from that Ben and Holly are keeping her on the potty - or is that cheating?!

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 11/05/2013 15:05

How's it going Frog?

We had a poo in pants incident, which I possibly could have avoided if I'd been quicker (I think DS looks at his pants before he does a wee or a poo). Otherwise, it's been good - still prompting + weeing, although he said No for a while (because he was playing I think), but then had a successful wee. But...he's now having a nap with no nappy on, eek.

OP posts:
TheScreamingfrog · 11/05/2013 15:55

Ooh you are braver than me! She is napping with a nappy on. Bit worried about a lack of poo so far....
But (touch wood) it's not been as traumatic as I thought it would!
Fingers crossed for wake up time.
It is lovely sharing it with someone else - thanks for the thread!

TheScreamingfrog · 11/05/2013 18:22

How are you getting on?

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 11/05/2013 18:49

Grin I'm not braver - DS said that he didn't want to put a nappy on at naptime, so I went with that. Also, he has a HippyChick waterproof sheet on his cot anyway. Surprisingly, he was dry after his nap, but then when I was trying to convince him to go on his potty, he did a big wee through his pants onto the floor.

Similar mixed success since then really... I don't know whether to be pleased or not overall Grin. It could have been a lot worse.

I think the issues for us will be playing and therefore not paying attention, not pooing in the potty possibly, and possibly not wanting to put on a nappy at night.

How has the rest of your day been Frog?

OP posts:
TheScreamingfrog · 11/05/2013 19:53

Lol at him not wanting the nappy on! Sounds like he has done well.
We have had no poos today but overall success I think. 2 wees through clothing but in the potty and 3 on the potty so overall I am pretty pleased.

Shall we have a glass of Wine and drink to a potty filled tomorrow?

notnowbernard · 11/05/2013 19:58

Ds 2.9

Wees on potty with gay abandon when nekkid. Unprompted

Produced his first poo this eve in response to a bribe for a Haribo

I'm not brave enough yet to do pants outside

AND I've done this before - he's no. 3 Shock

[should know better emoticon]

Thing is I reckon he'll be pissing all over the shop if I stick pants on him

Shall I do it or not?

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 11/05/2013 20:09

Frog, well done, it sounds like you've had a really good day. I think we definitely deserve a glass of something cold - DH and I have some Magners cooling in the fridge .

Bernard, go for it! Make a fuss about the pants, and about them being able to take them off / put them on etc.

Well, DS was a bit unhappy to wear a nappy tonight, but I think I got round that by being firm that nappies were for nighttime, then being less firm by putting his pants on over his nappy. Oh, I hope that doesn't confuse everything though! I think there's an MN 'How to potty train' page somewhere, I think I'll find it on my laptop later.

There used to be PT Bootcamp threads...

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 11/05/2013 20:33

That sounds simultaneously helpful and scary Bernard.

Frog, did your DC have a dry nappy after naptime?

Ruddy, come and tell us how you get on tomorrow Smile.

OP posts:
notnowbernard · 11/05/2013 20:36

They were funny Grin (though I was never on them as wasn't pt when they were around)

Well-known poster used to do them

PartyFops · 11/05/2013 20:39

Watching this thread! Grin

DD is just 2 and not quite ready, I'm interested as to whether you have just introduced the potty or whether you have let them experiment with it?

I do about half an hour before bathtime nappy free and offer her the potty, she does normally use it, but her communication is not really good enough yet to properly do it.

TheScreamingfrog · 11/05/2013 20:51

Thanks Its, I am feeling very pleased with myself her. She did have a dry nappy when she woke so may be braver tomorrow Wink

Party, she has had access to a potty and toilet seat for ages and been fascinated. I first tried about three months ago but having cleared up the third pee in what felt like as many minutes I have been putting it off. Obviously the right thing to do!

Keep us posted....

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 11/05/2013 21:29

Party, we just had the potty around, and talked about it a bit, then jumped in at the deep end. Your way sounds great btw Smile.

How are we all this morning? Ready for round 2?

WhispersOfWickedness · 12/05/2013 08:48

Can I join?
DD is a little young (20 months) but I potty trained her brother at the end of last year, so she has been quite interested since then so we're giving it a go! I figure that if it does work, it's saved us a lot of nappies and if it doesn't, we can always try again next year!
So, we started yesterday and she had one poo accident and one wee accident. I think three wees on the potty and one wee on the toilet. I'd rather go straight to the toilet, but she's scared of heights Hmm so isn't always keen to sit on it Sad
Anyway, was quite pleased with yesterday, but she has done similar before and then forgotten again, so not holding my breath!
We're going to a party today so not sure what to do about that Confused
Hope we all have a good day, will report progress later Smile

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 12/05/2013 09:16

Hi everyone Smile. I feel a bit discouraged today, as DS has only done a tiny wee in the potty, then refused the potty a few times, then did a big wee on the floor (please excuse grammar!). He's now refusing the potty again. Struggling to find a balance between not asking enough and asking too often.

OP posts:
TheScreamingfrog · 12/05/2013 12:36

Hi Whispers!
Its, I too am slightly worried by today. Two wees and a poo and none in the potty. On the upside, she is recognising what is happening and then heading for the potty. Perhaps it's normal on day two?
Lets hope for a drier afternoon!

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 12/05/2013 12:45

Hi Frog, oh no, it's really disheartening, isn't it?

DS just looked a bit confused, so we managed to get him to the potty in time for a wee. Definitely not taking himself there though. And didn't want any pants on again afterwards. Off to bed for a nap soon Confused.

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 12/05/2013 12:47

I meant to add, we've resorted to bribery too (a gingerbread man and £1).
