We're going to start potty training DS (2.8) on Saturday. Is anyone else starting then too?

Ah, forgot to say, I read that potty in cafe thread too! It has never occurred to me to do that! In fact, we went to a cafe yesterday and ended up making about 6 trips to the loo because DS and DD got bored waiting for food and realised that would be a fun diversion HmmGrin

Nelly, I agree with Whispers. When we were looking at preschools we were told by 2 different ones that it was not essential for them to be potty trained.

Like you, I was worried and feeling pressurised but am so glad I waited till she was ready as it was a totally different experience to that first wee and poo everywhere nightmare! And that wasn't long ago either.
Good luck!

Ths school aren't telling me to do it, just feel he needs to be out of nappies then. This is only week one but really no progress. He has been on the toilet at nursery a couple of times a day, with alot of persuasion. Lots of accidents too though.

He ast on potty this morning but no wees. Now is refusing. He then sat on sofa and weed with out even mentioning it.! Sofa is now covered in bicarb to get rid of wee smell!

It is looki g like he is not ready isn't ? However have started now. should I keep going?

Thanks for all your responses btw. Off to buy some stickers and chocolate buttons too!

I really would take a break and try again in a month or so. It is not confusing for them to go back into nappies if they are not understanding the process in the first place. It's good that the school has not said that, try not to impose a time limit for yourself, it does make the process so much more stressful (bitter voice of experience!).

Whispers has hit the nail on the head! I can honestly say that the more stressed I got, the worse DD got. This has actually been a relatively stress free experience (touch wood).

Hi, can I join in please? Dd2 (2.7) is a couple of weeks ahead of you guys and still having accidents. Today she wee'd all over DD1, it was hysterical, nearly PMSL.

I second the comment about waiting if DS really has no idea what is going on. We had the same with DD1, left it 4 weeks and she was ready.

Today, we have had a wee and a poo on the toilet, two wee accidents, but one was because she fell asleep and I risked it. Thank god for leather sofas!

Great news, its Grin

Ok, no wee accidents today at all, she was dry after her nap, although I did have to wake her to go out. That makes no wee accidents since thurs morning, so I definitely think we are nearly there Smile however, there have been two poo accidents, although one of them was not long after she had asked and dh took her but said she didn't do anything, so I suspect that he didn't give her long enough to do it! There have also been two unprompted poos in the toilet today too, so I'm fairly sure she is starting to understand that now too. All in all, a good day Grin

Ok. Today was a disaster. He did do 1 wee in the potty but think it was just a coincidence. Soooo much cajoling from me and still wet himself loads and then pooed his nappy just as going to bed.

We are going on holiday in 2 weeks time. Think I will leave it until we come back. The thought of hunting down toilets in Spain all holiday is a bit scary.

So it is on hold now. Hope I am doing the right thing.

I've been rubbish keeping up with this thread Blush. In response to whisper's question, DD is 2.4 so think another few months won't hurt? It's frustrating as she's been sort of ready for months, she does use the potty on occasion. She bounced back from measles very well too, spots are almost gone. Smile

I'd be interested to know if any other potty trainees here go to nursery - DD is in four days a week and they are pretty supportive of whatever we do, so was wondering how it affects the process?

Keep going ladies :D You give me hope that there's a light at the end of the tunnel!

Oh yes, that's still quite young, another few months definitely doesn't matter. Glad she is recovering well from measles, that must be a relief Smile

Disaster has struck! Have had to put DD back in a nappy this morning as she has a tummy bug Sad Hope it is short lived and doesn't harm her progress!
Having said that, we do have some progress in another area. DD was up for three hours in the night (sadly not too unusual Hmm) and asked to go for a wee while she was up (at about 1am). I changed her nappy while we were there and it was dry. Then when I took her nappy off this morning at 7am, that one was dry too! So we will have to see how that goes, I kind of had a feeling that she would be dry at night before DS...

Hope DD is better soon Whispers.

Hi Mikkii - that's a story for the dinner table in about 13 years time!

Nelly, that sounds like a plan. Hols are supposed to be relaxing and you won't be if you are toilet spotting!

We are doing great. One little accident at the park yesterday that involved me trying to whip a potty out under a bridge by the river - not easy trying to sort potty and stop DD falling in! Apart from that its been great. We were even dry last night and went straight on the potty this morning.

Last night DD asked to go on the toilet before her bath so that was great, she wee'd in toilet this morning before we went out for 3 hours. She went for a wee before doing some "crafts" with DD1, but has just had a wee accident in he garden. The best bit about that was, apart from no clearing up, DD1 changed her pants and shorts too.

Ruddy, DD is at nursery 2 days a week. They are supportive, but I have discovered they now throw away pants in the event of a poo accident following advice from environmental health dept! Having aid that, they have agreed to pay for any thrown away. So now, only old knickers worn for nursery or sent as spares, whilst I provided receipts for the ones just purchased from Next.

Nelly, we PT'd DD1 on holiday in Spain. We were staying in a house with tiles downstairs and knew most of the day would be on the patio, any accidents dealt with by bucket of water. The Spaniards are very accepting of kids and there were many wees over the gutter. I did use pull ups on he journey though, and may do this summer as well, depending on how she's doing.

Whispers, good to hear she is recovering.

Frog, I'm always os impressed by organised people like you, my DC all learnt to wee held over a gutter as I never carry a potty, and the potette takes too long to whip out quickly!

We seem to be doing better at night! Hat's unusual

She's still got it. Went nappy free for a few hours in the middle of the day, but it's all come exploding back again, so back in a nappy Sad Not that that means it will be all held in! (Sorry, TMI!)

Mikkii, I have mostly thrown away poo accident pants, it was what kept me sane with DS, I just bought loads of cheap ones and had hand me downs from my DN, so the cost wasn't a problem Smile

Grin at being called organised! Not one member of my family would ever call me that!

Can I join in? :)

Dd has had pants on for 1.5h now and so far 2 wees in the potty!
I think she is wee-ing on demand iyswim as she went when ds needed to and when I was explaining how we would 'do' PT.

She is 2.1yo so still v little. She has done quite a few on the potty while in nappies in the last few weeks and can say wee or poo so fingers crossed!

Is everyone else having a dry day?

Can I join too. dd is 2.8 and we're starting potty training at the weekend. Have been meaning to try for a few months but have had a few trips away and keep finding various excuses. I haven't a clue how I'm going to approach it but hey ho.

to motherofvikings, glad you decided to join us Grin

Welcome to Jollyb Smile

Progress report - three wee accidents today, I think that having to put her in nappies yesterday due to tummy bug has set her back a bit Sad However, there have been two unprompted poos in the toilet, so that is great Grin I am pleased to report that she has recovered from the bug as well Grin

Hope everyone else is doing well Smile

Sounds like its going fairly well for most of us! :)

Dd got distracted when DH got home. Hmm
One was when she didn't get there in time, another was probably when DH wasn't listening and she told him.

There was also a very messy poop accident. There will be no shreddies for breakfast tomorrow! Hmm
