We're going to start potty training DS (2.8) on Saturday. Is anyone else starting then too?

How did it go with the childminder, frog?

Itsall, how is it going for your DS at your childminders?

Mixed results this afternoon for us, a couple of wees on the potty, a couple of accidents and a poo in pants Sad

Tomorrow is another day!

Hi everyone Smile.

DS is getting on well at the CM - mixed yesterday, then much better today. She's fab, and has made up some special songs that DH and I seem to be incapable of remembering the tune to Confused.

I generally resort to bribery - particularly first thing in the am, as that's a big wee otherwise! Pictures of Octonauts work quite well.

BabyBjorn Smart Potty arrived today, t'is quite nice.

No poos on target so far though! Is it only bernard who has managed that?

Sounds good, its Smile

No poo successes here, although she did tell me she had done it today, so that is a step in the right direction HmmGrin

Whispers, at first our CM said it would take 2 weeks, now she says 6 Shock! And I'm sure she mentioned something about a few days where he would completely regress as well...

We'll get there!

Sounds as if we are all going in the right direction.

Still no poos for us successfully but wees are doing great! We are bribing with chocolate buttons for every success and using a mixture of potty and toilet.

Just hoping that we continue in the right direction. I have noticed that when I get stressed about it so does DD and that is when accidents happen!

Good luck tomorrow all!

I think you're right Frog, it's hard to relax about the whole thing, but it definitely helps.

Glad it's getting better, frog, I agree about getting stressed, I was very stressed with DS and think I made it much worse Sad am determined to be chilled out about it this time!

Hopefully DS will surprise you, its, and take less time! Tbh, 6 weeks sounds like a dream to me, compared to the 6 months of hell we had, and that's not even counting the 6 week regression he had at the beginning of this year HmmSad have you tried out the new potty yet?

So, progress report for today, no wee accidents, and there has been a poo in the potty!! Admittedly, she did start to strain, then grab herself and shout poo at me, so I got her onto the potty quick, I still had to change her pants, but that is definite progress! She also did a wee on the potty at the same time, but other than that, she hasn't had any wees on there (or anywhere as no accidents either!) Confused she's having a nap with a nappy on now.

We have got a supermarket trip later

Hope everyone has a successful day today!

Another day done with. One accident, although she did have to be persuaded to sit on the toilet on the times she actually went Sad
Hope everyone has had a good day! We have friends visiting for the next couple of days, so that should be interesting!

It is getting easier! Still no joy with poos but she knows when a wee is coming.
I am starting to relax Smile

Glad to hear you are all getting on too. It's great to be able to leave the house again. Although our washing machine has just gone for a burton - talk about timing!

WhispersOfWickedness · 16/05/2013 19:23

Brilliant, really glad to hear that, frog Grin terrible timing for the washing machine though!
So-so here, two accidents in the morning and none since. Probably going to soft play tomorrow, I might have to give in and put a nappy on her, that could be awful otherwise!! Confused

Hi everyone Smile. We're getting on okay too - DS announced he needed a wee tonight, took off his pants, and did a wee in the potty! Hurray!

I am a bit daunted by going out and about with him though. I'll give it some thought tonight.

Its all progress!
We had one accident today but - wait for it..... An unprompted poo!
Hurrah hurrah!

We have gone out a couple of times and always near toilets. DD thinks public toilets are the height of excitement while I just get all [shocked] at her touching toilet seats etc. She has now started asking for the potty as a delaying tactic too.... Clever little monkey Hmm

We gave up mid-way through last sunday on the first day! Sad. DD wouldn't sit on the potty when asked if she needed to go, and didn't even seem to notice she needed a wee. She kept leaving wee puddles around the place and really wasn't bothered! She just liked trying on new pairs of pants every time.

Not sure when to try again now? Any ideas?

But then she came down with measles on tuesday so have been busy with other things!

Sounds like everyone else is doing well though Smile

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/05/2013 19:27

Goodness, Ruddy, hope she's ok and it's a mild case. I'd definitely leave it until she's fully recovered, you have enough to worry about! How old is she? Maybe leave it a month and give it another go?

So, progress report, today there have been no accidents and a poo in the toilet Grin I am delighted and definitely carrying on Smile

Hope everyone else has had a successful day too SmileThanksWine

Oh Ruddy, what a shame! Although that happened to us the first time and I left it for another 3 months and bingo!

We have also had a fab day - no accidents and a poo in the potty....
I hesitate to say it but I think we may have cracked it!
Just a bit more practise out and about.

I think we are all doing really well and it has been lovely sharing it with you all!
Thanks

Ds is 2.10 and am trying to pt this week. It is hopeless. He refuses the potty at home then calmly wees on the floor. Shows no interest at all or sign he knows a wee is coming. Did a bit better at nursery but still 3 accidents.

Feel really disheartened. Don't know whether to give up or not but he is nearly 3 and starts school nursery in Spt.

What shall I do??????

Oh Ruddy, I hope your DD gets well soon. Thanks

nelly, do you need to potty train before nursery starts? If not, I'd be tempted to wait 3 months or so, then try again...

We seem to be making progress in the right direction Smile. There was even a poo in the potty earlier, DS looked as shocked as I did Grin.

Oh my, I just read the 'I let my child wee in a potty under the table in a cafe' thread in AIBU. It prompted me to buy some training pants for longer than average trips out and about Grin.

Do you think I should wait then? Don't know what to do for best.

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 18/05/2013 07:30

Eek, I'm not sure nelly! Can you bribe him to sit on the potty to get him used to it? I wanted to give up on day 2, but it's improved since then. What does your nursery say?

nelly, I've heard that stickers stuck to the potty as a reward can be quite useful. Or let him watch TV sitting on it, and cause a big fuss?

I would wait a bit, nelly, maybe just keep the potty out and have a little nappy free time in the evening. One thing that I found helped was to mention it every time you could see they were doing it, so if he pees during nappy free time, tell him what he's doing as he's doing it - 'oh, you're weeing, you're having a wee! Look, there's your wee, you had a wee!' A bit stressful if it's an accident, but helps them to notice the sensations of their body and gives them words to associate with the sensations. You can do this when they poo in a nappy too, as you can often see them doing it!
Has the school nursery said he has to be potty trained? I'm fairly sure they can't do this as they need to be able to accommodate SN. I'm not sure though, I just remember something about that from several PT threads last year!

Its - be brave about going out, you can do it! One of DD's major achievements yesterday was going nappy free at soft play! She had done so well throughout the day that I decided to risk it and she didn't have an accident Grin
